I know I'm not adding much beyond what has already been stated here, but I feel the need to add my own thoughts, because I am so impressed with this place. The wife of a good friend recommended that I try this to get my Italian sausage. She prepares fantastic Italian food, and I love to eat fantastic Italian food, so it seemed like a match made in heaven. Using our own spaghetti sauce family recipe, I purchased both mild and hot sausage to use in my sauce. While I was there, I went ahead and picked up their ground beef which I needed for that same dish. It turned out beautifully. Since then, my ex-wife (who had some of my spaghetti), picked up some of Johnny's mild sausage for a holiday dish she was preparing. That supper was also delicious! In this last visit, I just wanted to try some of their "atomic" sausage (extra hot) for sandwiches, along with some potato salad. The sausage was just what I had a taste for. Their potato salad was to die for, and their private label marinara is also delicious. People rave about their hamburgers, and I'm sure they are delicious. I like to make my own hamburgers, but I'll use their ground beef the next time I make them. Besides the mild. hot, and atomic Italian sausage, they have Barese sausage, and beyond sausage, all the other meat offerings you could think of. I also want to try their prepared meatballs next visit. Eventually, I can see myself trying almost everything here. I shop at both Whole Foods for some things and Jewel for others, so why not add Johnny's for my meat? The people here are friendly as hell, and so very helpful. They answer all your questions, and will make recommendations if you want them. The store is well organized and immaculate. I love it! read more

Their food truck was amazing! We booked their food truck for our daughters party and it was a hit. The menu included rib eye steak sandwiches, Italian beef, pub burgers and chicago style hot dogs. Sides: fries, cole slaw and potato salad. Our guests enjoyed themselves and the team was great. We'll definitely be sure to book again. First time I got to experience Johnny G's was at the Glendale Fest this past weekend. I ordered a burger the first day. Ribeye sandwich the second. Third day I had the ribeye again. Everything was so good! Fast forward to fest being over and I found out their food truck was open where their deli is. Thursday I had another great burger and today I tried their beef. Another great choice! Probably another favorite of mine. Never disappointed! I cannot recommend them enough! I am now known by name, probably because I can be a little difficult with my requests. There is something about the butcher shop that makes men (and some women) salivate. Johnny's is one of those places. It's in a non-descript strip mall at the corner of Schick and Bloomingdale Road and if you don't look close enough, you'll miss it. Once inside, you'll see high quality meats in the case, lots of frozen pastas in the freezers and a happy old man behind the counter. Their meat is wonderful. Yes, it's expensive but the quality/price ratio can't be beat here. What I love is requesting ground beef and they grind it up fresh for you right there. Wow, wow, wow! The sausage made at Johnnie D's is nothing less than a culinary work of art! I have tried three sausages up to date and have been pleasantly surprised with each one of them 1. Pepperoni sausage left me licking my lips for a good hour, searching for more deliciousness. 2. Martini Sausage with olives and blue cheese, was a perfect blend. 3. Atomic Sausage was perfectly spiced, enough to feel it the heat, but not to hot where it burns your palette If your in the area or not, head over and try a sausage for yourself. read more

To be honest, I was not the happiest with Johnny G's initially. Friends were giving me shit for going to grocery stores for my meat purchases and encouraged me to support local shops. And I'd have loved to, but I had been to Johnny G's a number of times between 2011-2015 and only ever made it inside the shop once in the 4+ years I lived in Bloomingdale. That's because the first time I went they weren't open when they were supposed to be. The second and third times they were also closed when they would normally be open. I think they were remodeling, or out of the country, or maybe it was an extended holiday. Nonetheless, they weren't open and I was getting impatient. The fourth visit was when I thought I might give up on them. I called that day in the early afternoon and specifically asked how late they would be open and was told 6pm. I rolled up at 5:45pm (stuck late at work and traffic) with every intention of quickly picking something up and getting out of their way, but I got out of my car at the same time as the lights were turned off and the door was being locked. The man leaving told me the selection wasn't the best at this point and suggested I come back the following day. I wasn't able to, but my Husband went and picked up a few steaks and sides. They were so good that I decided to give them another chance! And another, and another! They've won me back! The meats here are consistently delicious. We've been buying ribeye mostly and they will cut it to the thickness that we want. Johnny G's also has some ready-to-eat deli meats and cheeses, so that's pretty convenient. It's all affordable, too! If I wanted higher quality meats, I admit that I was going to Whole Foods in Elmhurst or Schaumburg. I often shopped at Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove. However, I see no reason to go any further than Bloomingdale to get great cuts of meat now. And I can't bring myself to buy much from Jewel-Osco or Target these days. It's simply not the same. I think the key to success is to come in mid-Saturday, because that's when I've had the best luck. That's when I've found they are always open and the choices are still plentiful. The men working there are always in a good mood, too. The last time I stopped in, one of them even asked me if I'd been there before. I told him I had and he asked if I found things were getting better or worse. I wholeheartedly told him they were getting better each visit! We live in Wood Dale now, so it's not as convenient as it was. But I think I'll continue to come here for special ocassions. read more

Best butcher shop in the suburbs !! Johnny is a great guy who takes pride in his work. I have ordered from here a couple of times now and every time I get rave reviews about my BBQ skills !! I traditionally host Christmas Eve dinner. Rather than our regular Honeybaked Ham, I wanted to do something different. I decided on a roast tenderloin. I shopped around a bit, and found the prices at Johnny G's to be about $8/lb cheaper (still $17/lb). My dad picked up the meat for me, so I can't comment on the store. When I called to place my order, they were very helpful in determining the right cut of meat, quantity (they were spot-on), and cooking time/temperature. The meat was very well wrapped (many layers of plastic wrap and two dominick's-type bags), though bloody. I suppose this is par for the course when you get fresh meat from the butcher, rather than Whole Foods or Jewel (where I get all of my other meat). I got tons of compliments from everyone on the tenderloin, it was the perfect roast. Update: I went into this store last weekend for some deli meat. There were two older guys working behind the counter. (No, neither one was named Sam.) One guy was very nice and helpful, sliced my pepperoni (made pizza), offered suggestions for cut and quantities for veal parmesan, and explained the differences in their sausage ad nauseum. Very Mayberry, it was nice. The other guy was quite chatty and odd. The helper-man tried to shoosh him, to no avail. Finally another customer came in and got him to zip it. "Charlie, are we here for a politics lesson, or meat? Leave the poor girl alone!" I would definitely come back here -- except for the creepy cow head on the wall, they have a great selection of meat and some hard-to-find Italian canned/jarred goods.
