Negatives:The biggest issue was that the A/C wasn't working, which made the dining area very uncomfortable. No one on the staff mentioned it when we arrived, which would have been appreciated. As a hot chicken & waffle connoisseur, probably the best I've ever had. I came hungry and craving this sh*t and it DELIVERED. From the vibe I got walking inside I already knew it was gonna be authentic and satisfy my taste buds so I knew I had to get a few items (which I ate all myself, no crumbs left behind). The ambiance was very loud however and it was hard to have a conversation with my friend, but other than that the food absolutely smacked. The chicken was perfectly battered and fried and was juicy perfection. The red velvet waffle is a MUST to elevate the sweetness. They also had a strawberry and pecan flavor which I also wanted to try - and I will next time. More restaurants need those options!! The chicken sandwich was seasoned well, better than other places for sure. The Mac could've used a little more salt, but it was good. And oh man the French toast was bombbb especially for my sweet tooth I couldn't believe they offered that. It was very aesthetic inside but it was crowded (probably because it was a weekend night too I should mention) but I'll come back on a week day so I could get a little more room to enjoy my food. My family and I visited Johnny's Chicken & Waffles for a birthday dinner, arriving around 6:30 PM with a party of 11. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, there was no host. The entire restaurant appeared to be staffed by only one server, one bartender, and one cook. While I want to be clear that our server worked hard and did the best he could under the circumstances, it was obvious that he was overwhelmed and set up to fail. Every item we ordered took approximately 30-45 minutes to arrive. Even when food did come out, side items were frequently forgotten. For example, coleslaw and other sides that were supposed to accompany the fried fish were not brought out with the meals. I ordered the Salmon BLT, and the bun was severely burnt. The mac and cheese that accompanied my meal was cold. Throughout the evening, there was little to no follow-up regarding our food or dining experience. What made the situation more frustrating was that there were only a few other tables in the restaurant. The bartender was serving an empty bar for much of the evening, and it seemed like there was an opportunity for additional support by helping run drinks, deliver food, or assist the server with guests. We chose Johnny's for a birthday celebration after seeing so much positive attention and hype on social media. I had been looking forward to trying it for quite some time and expected the experience to match the reputation. Unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The issue was not the server--it was the lack of staffing, organization, and support. What should have been a special birthday dinner turned into a long and frustrating experience. My first time at Johnny's was cool. Great vibes at their R&B Bingo event, the whole restaurant was singing along to nostalgic hits. The food was good- nice portion sizes, well seasoned and our waitress Dee was friendly and attentive. The AC wasn't working, so the restaurant felt hot and stuffy, also there was a foul smell when I first arrived that went away after the host lit multiple candles. Overall Johnny's has a good vibe and good food. But if they want to be successful during summer, and increase repeat business they need to prioritize a well functioning AC and ventilation systems to ensure guest comfort and positive experiences. read more

I spoke too soon about how quickly I'd return. I stopped by on Sunday for a late brunch/early dinner. Unfortunately, there was again a DJ in the corner, which made the restaurant very loud and not conducive to table conversation. The biggest disappointment was the inconsistency in the food, especially since I brought friends after sharing a great experience just two days earlier. Once again, some orders were incomplete, and several dishes didn't meet expectations. The French toast was overcooked/burnt and missing its filling. The salmon on the Salmon BBLT was tough and difficult to cut or chew. The kale greens, which I loved on my first visit, were extremely salty and slightly spicy this time around. I don't recall them being over-seasoned before. Even the table next to us returned their appetizer and chose not to order anything else, mentioning they were only staying because they were celebrating a birthday. That experience highlighted another issue: although the seating is plentiful and thoughtfully staged, the middle seating area is extremely cramped. Seat backs hit each other, and staff and guests can't pass through without someone having to move or stand. Because of this, we could hear every nearby conversation, order, and complaint without trying. Our flavored mimosas (strawberry, mango, peach) arrived half-filled with purée that didn't taste fresh. When asked, the waitress could only say, "That's just how we make them." We stirred them in and switched drinks the next round, because the wait alone for those was too long to request remakes. Service was great again, and that absolutely matters. However, repeat customers will come from consistent food quality and a consistently good overall dining experience. Wow, what an absolute switch from the last time I was here a couple months ago while in town. In fact I made a special trip from Oklahoma to visit family in Fort Worth just to take them here because of my previous experience. I'm not sure what happened from the last time to last night but the only thing I was pleased with was the service. Aysa (Server) got the Stars and if I could have made my point with zero Stars Johnny's would have gotten 0 Stars. When we got there it was Myself, my Son, my Daughter in Law and my two Grandkids. The music was so loud I was standing next to my son and he couldn't hear a word I was saying. Fortunately they had outside seating which we agreed to immediately. In fact I don't even want this to be too long so I'm just going to skip to the good part. My daughter-in-law had the Salmon and Grits and I had the Catfish and Grits. The moment she and I tasted our grits it was evident they were underdone and Gritty. Aysa came by and took the Salmon plate away. I told her my fish was fine and took it off the plate and asked for another plate of grits. She was very gracious and did so. When she came back the grits that came out of the kitchen had to be the exact same ones because there was no additional cook time and I guarantee you they were the same grits from the same pot That would just as good as the previous ones. I didn't want to be a bother so I told her don't even worry about it and just pack my food up. I know I wasn't tripping because my daughter-in-law said the same thing that the grits tasted the same as they did before. I'm going to say this when we as black people do our best to patronize Black restaurants only to be taken advantage of like this it's a great look. As I say it the first time I came everything was great and they earned those 5 Stars. I didn't even ask for anything to be taken care of the bill because I didn't want it to be seen as if we were after something for free. Would really piss me off more than anything was that Johnny's was not my only option. In fact I passed several restaurants in route to very mediocre food. Johnny's prove one thing to me this whole Black Restaurant thing is really overplayed. I travel for business and travel to and eat in Atlanta to save myself the aggravation and elevated blood pressure I mainly eat at places more suited for fast food that is nationaly recognized. $166.93 later and completely unsatisfied. New Orleans is known for their Hospitality and I was not surprised to learn that Aysa or Server was from there, (My Hometown) and I truly believe they are lucky to have her. I made sure to take care of her separately because I couldn't see tipping anyone else in that place. Lastly halfway into the meal it turned into a Houston Spring Break with someone on the Mic dropping F Bombs and lude Rap. Maybe during the week is some more civilized dining and the weekend is for whatever happens happens. Johnny's didn't have to worry about me anymore when I come down Fort Worth. I'm good on this one. We came in for an anniversary brunch with our daughter and the wait was about 35min on a Sunday afternoon, but it was worth it! The ambiance was fun and the music was perfect. I was very excited to visit this establishment; however, I was not pleased with the service, food, or the atmosphere. I arrived around 9 PM. There was a party going on before my arrival. The party guests were allowed to play their music of choice, which is a cool gesture. However, the type of music playing was hardcore rap music. There were children and elderly adults in attendance, and I could visibly see see that they were uncomfortable with the lyrics. The music was extremely loud. So much so that I had a hard time ordering my food because the waitress couldn't hear me over it. I ordered shrimp & grits, macaroni and cheese, and watermelon tea. None of the food was good. The waitress was very nice. She asked me how the food tasted, and I gave her my honest opinion in the nicest way possible. She just smiled and said, "Maybe next time." Ummm ma'am, there won't be a next time. No, I'm sorry. She didn't bother to ask if I would like to order something else. Nothing....... Our bill came out to $127, including the gratuity, which wasn't bad for 2 people. Needless to say, I will not be visiting again. I was very disappointed with the entire vibe. Came here on Juneteenth. Prices are ok but a little on the high side (esp for cocktails) Firstly, we got our drinks and my wife orders a blue moon. The server says "if we don't have it what else do you want?" I look at the bar and tell her I can see blue moons in the fridge. We all get our drinks and my wife doesn't get the blue moon and the waiter says we don't have any. I can CLEARLY see blue moons in the fridge and my wife concedes. Then, we get our food which obviously you gotta get the chickens and waffles. The waffles were good but the chicken was mid. Additionally my wife's chicken tasted like old fish (which she HATES fish) I tasted to confirm. And indeed it tasted like the fishiest fish ever. Then I get to my thigh and it too tasted very nastily fishy. The grits my wife got weren't cooked all the way and were hard. And the chicken tasted old. My husband and I both order the Johnnys"not yet famous" chicken and waffles. The chicken is seasoned amazingly. I suggest start cooking the chicken to order, because ours came out super greasy like it has been reheated. Waffle was cooked to perfection, and the cinnamon sets the flavor off in the buttermilk flavored. The drinks were immaculate. But the servers should become more familiar with the menu, we ordered a fruit punch and she brought out a cocktail and insisted they didn't have any other fruit punch.
