I wanted to really love this place. It has sat on the corner of the roselle city line for several years now, and a couple friends and I finally found the opportunity to try the spot under the assumption it was a full-fledged dive bar. Once we arrived, we came across a well-decorated, conservatively Lucha-themed restaurant with wooden tables, black ceilings, and Lucha masks sharing the wall with murals and big typography. It was busy, but we still got seated within 3 minutes of arrival. The server took almost 20 mins from the time he first introduced himself to us to get us our drinks, and a additional 10-20 to get our food out. He didn't write any of our orders down and had to come by our table a couple times to re-confirm them. Once we got our food we enjoyed everything that wasn't made of cheese. I say that because because the quesadilla I ordered made me a tad bit sick for an hour or two. I has zero drinks. The server was a nice guy, but irritated me about the service we received is that i felt he had enough help (I counted one other server, two food runners, and assumedly a manager who were on the floor). It was exhaustingly slow and mediocre for such a small spot that I woulda honestly thought had enough experience in this sort of dining experience after being in Roselle for so many years. My first time here and it was AWESOME! The environment is chill, the food was decent and the service was good. The food gets a "decent" because the flavors weren't exciting and robust like most Mexican fare - actually... It was a little bland. We had the chicharron de pollo, steak fajitas and the latino chicken caesar salad. Great portions and reasonable prices. Everything including beverages and two candy worm shots came up to just under $45. They played a great mix of music. Hip-hop, latin, reggae, R & B - both old and new. The decor is fun & eye-catching. Medium sized venue yet great for groups. Nellie was our server today and she was cool. Attentive but not down your back. Fast and friendly service. I visited Villa for the first time yesterday and i must say for once i have found really tasty mexican food in NJ at a very reasonable price. We started with grilled corn (im still craving it today), empanadas and guacamole which were delicious. And since we were in the mood for good tacos we had chorizo, beef, pork and carne asada. I mist say everything was well presented and tasty! Our waitress tatiana was really nice and very attentive! I never really write reviews but villa won my heart. I came to Villa Tequila with a party of 6, having been led here by the various reviews and from passing it on my way to Lun Wah once or twice. As it was a Friday night, the restaurant was mildly busy and we were promptly seated on the high-tops in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered a few craft cocktails, however the waitress forgot one of ours and was pretty slow to fix the mistake. The timing of our food couldn't have been more off as well. One item, an order of chicken quesadillas, reached a member of our group approximately 3 minutes after the order was placed. This implying the food may have been sitting from a previous order. The rest of the orders came out staggered as well. The quality of the food (tacos, fajitas, etc.), the drinks, and the atmosphere would likely warrant around 3 stars, given the circumstances. However, when it was time to handle the bill, we were given separate checks and several of the bills were incorrect, wrong items attributed to different people as well as additional items never ordered were affixed. The waitress was extremely confused and got a few managers involved to attempt to sort the bill, which involved us waiting 10 minutes for new bills. When we received the new bills, they still weren't correct, and now an automatic gratuity was added, which is fine, considering our party. At this point, our group was pretty frustrated, so we paid our bills just to leave. When we got our receipts and credit cards back, some of us found that even more ADDITIONAL items were added to the check after we had given our credit cards. We were again defeated and paid, grudgingly. read more

Was here with a big group of girls for a girl date we were sat in the basement at 2 card tables which was okay but not like as aesthetically pleasing as upstairs. The music was fire. We ordered a bunch of apps which everyone seemed pretty happy about. My corn empanadas were good. I tried a bite of my friends pork taco which was pretty dry and flavorless we threw on the toppings we had from the tostadas to compensate. The tostadas had a HEAVY sesame oil presence which threw me off. we tried probably EVERY margarita on the menu and they were very VERY good not too sweet good alcohol pour 0 complaints about any flavor really. A sports bar with a Mexican twist. Really 3.5 stars but I rounded up for the reasonable prices and decent food (for a sportsbar) and drinks. Great place for a guys night out to watch fights. First off they are not kid friendly. No high chairs. The tortillas were stale and didn't taste fresh at all. We ordered several tacos which were ok tasting. The skirt steak was good and the highlight of our meal but a bit small on portion size. It was marinated perfectly and cooked the way we wanted, which was impressive. In my experience its uncommon for a Mexican/ Latin restaurant to serve a medium rare steak as such. Beers and drinks were priced well and they have Dos Equis on tap! I went the night of the Pacquiao fight. Big screen TVs were ample and loud enough to comfortably watch and follow sports. Nice alternative to Bww for watching fights. Neighborhood seemed ok with proper caution and use of common sense. Lots of young couples walking around at night at the various neighboring restaurants. read more

I had been craving tacos all week and decided to come here to satisfy it. I had read the reviews here on Yelp and for the most part they were positive. I came here this evening around 5:30 p.m. and there were a few people already dining when I arrived. I was greeted promptly and seated near the bar. The wait staff was helpful and pleasant. The waitress (don't know her name) asked me if I wanted a drink (tequila) however I declined because I don't consume alcohol so instead I ordered a Mango/Tea mixed something or other. It was tasty. Now lets get to the food. I ordered chips and salsa and pulled pork tacos. The chips were really good. They were homemade with a little salt and some other type of seasoning. seasoned. The salsa was good too. Now, the pulled pork tacos were way too salty. I understand seasoning the meat for flavor but I believe whoever seasoned the meat was a bit heavy handed. As I stated, the chips were seasoned and had salt on them already but to then eat salty tacos was a bit much. The tacos would have been PERFECT minus the 'extra' salt. I didn't particularly care for the music too much either. They played a lot of rap and some songs with profane lyrics. Today's rap music is not my cup of tea. However, I wouldn't allow that to deter me from going back. Overall it was a good experience and I will be back to try something new on the menu. read more

Went here today. Shared the tostones, pork belly sliders, and then had carne asada tacos. Everything was fantastic. The pork belly sliders are an absolute must if you like pork belly. Paired with avocado it was just ridiculous. One order comes with two sliders so great to share. We had a chicken, a pork, and a vegetable empanada. I only tried the chicken and pork but very very flavorful and with a great kick. The carne asada tacos were delicious as well. Three to an order but you can't mix and match which is kinda a bummer. Ordering was a bit chaotic as they were out of a few things and everything came out almost at once which isn't ideal. All in all the food was amazing, some of the best Mexican I've had in New Jersey. I never write reviews and used to love this place. Great drinks, great vibe and delicious food. I used to come here 2-3 times a month for almost 2 years. Always ordered the same- queso frito, steak fajitas and sangria. I would say about a year ago they took the steak fajitas off the menu and said it would make a return at one point. I haven't been back since they took the one thing I liked eating off the menu. BRING BACK STEAK FAJITAS!!! With the rice and fries man it was so good. You guys make it the best! I have to say this is some of the best Mexican / Tex-mex I've ever had. Any one of their bowls are awesome. Their chimichurri steak is cooked beautifully and is an option as a steak dinner or steak that you can add to a bowl. The plaintains are excellent. Everything is priced decently but I feel the drinks are a little pricey especially if it's not a happy hour special. The sangria pitchers at 35 bucks although good, doesn't seem to have barely any alcohol and is way too much money. Service is always pretty good but sometimes they play the music way too loud during dinner hours. I came once at night to check out the bar scene and was okay; they leave all of the tables out so it's hard to maneuver around and I didn't particularly care for DJs music selection. But still a place good enough to come back especially since it's within walking distance from home. Minor things aside, the food is beyond enough to warrant a 5 star review. read more

Jocelyn was the worst and most impolite waitress I've ever experienced in my entire life... and I've been to a lot of restaurants. I would talk about my experience but it's not worth my time as they already wasted plenty of it, I've also been in contact with management. Think twice about eating here if you aren't Hispanic, never have i ever been treated like complete dog water from an employee of a restaurant. So sad because i actually enjoyed this place, but something fishy is up there. I absolutely love this place. The ambiance is great and the food is delicious. Happy hour all day on Sunday! Most recently due to the pandemic, they had had to resort to curbside/delivery services. So far I used them once for curbside and it was not a great experience, they told me it would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived and called, they had no idea what my order was and had me wait another 45 minutes before they called me to let me know my food was ready. Other friends have had more success with the curbside pick up. I think if they can get this part of their business organized it would definitely be a 5 star place. read more

We've tried it a bunch of times since they changed names and shortened the menu, but service is super slow, food is pre made. I came here with my sorority sisters to celebrate the anniversary of our sorority being founded. We brought so many people who purchased tons of food and drinks. We were polite and courteous when staff had stated there may be a delay due to the amount of people. However, the establishment proceeded to write a sign on the door saying they were no longer accepting members of my organization and that they were at capacity but then proceeded to let other people in "Caucasian Americans" but yet turned down "African Americans" at the door.
