Growing up in Southwestern New York, Johnny's Lunch has always been the place to go to while visiting Jamestown. I have many great memories about eating there with my parents, with our sports teams after a game etc... Hot dogs and burgers, with Johnny's secret Texas Hot sauce is amazing. Just writing about this place makes me want to take a quick trip down I-86. Every down and then Johnny's offers 'Hot Dog Soup', which is like a minestrone with hot dogs cut up. Try their in store made rice pudding....excellent! I have to take a few for the road it's so tasty! read more

I have only one complaint no Logan berry ..... Ice shavings are perfect esp when you add a styrofoam cup almost perfect last step would be logan berry ... But man everything was very good and very clean read more

Ok. I'm from Erie, Pa. and we have a lot of Greek/Coney/Red Hot joints here, and this town is obsessed with Smith Brand Hotdogs. This is a hotdog town. My company was working in Lakewood and my coworker greedily gave me one out of his order of nine Regular Johnny Dogs and after eating it, I knew why. Don't know how the food was, they only take cash. In this day in age, it's like insulting me to my face. They have an atm inside, but with a $3 surcharge. I prefer to use credit over debit anyway, so the atm isn't even really an option. This place will never see my business unless whoever I'm with is buying. This place can rot. read more

Three stink dogs with fries and a MALTED chocolate shake - STAT! This place as well a AJ's Texas Hots in the city are Chautauqua County staples. We always make a stop at Johnny's whenever we're in Jamestown. The food is delicious and super cheap! The friendly family atmosphere is amazing. My husband's family has been going to Jamestown for over 30 years, and they know everyone at the store by name. In fact, "Mama" even had to approve of me before my husband and I got married. The Texas Hots are fabulous with their spicy sauce. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to make it. Any suggestions, since we don't get to Johnny's too often from here in Texas? read more

As a little girl growing up in Jamestown New York. I always cherished my trip to this restaurant with my loving Father! He absolutely loved these hotdogs! I Love them as well...When we relocated to Florida in 1977 . My father always talked about while visiting Jamestown his first stop was for these hotdogs! Wholly cow if you haven't been here before DROP what you are doing and get here fast. Recently moved to PA and came into Jamestown to grocery shop. This place is across the street. Decided to stop for lunch. My husband and I each got an order of Texas Hots in a combo. Never had them before and since we are eating local we got the local meal. If you're FROM the area, you KNOW Johnny's Lunch hot dogs. Ex-patriots nearly always pay them a visit when they're home. I might recommend three hotdogs with everything, and watch them make the food. The rolls are soft, from steaming. The dogs are "tenderized" by running them through a shredder. The dog goes on the bun, add some mustard, some mystical brown meat sauce, and some chopped mushrooms. Voila! Everything. Try their milkshakes, too. About the best I've found around here. read more

Not quite for those on a diet or who are concerned about cholesterol, but hey, you can't always eat 'organic', 'soy', and 'rabbit food' all the time, right? (A little family history note: My grandfather used to eat at Johnny's Lunch on any trip he'd take into Jamestown back in the 40's/50's. Originally, Johnny's Lunch was located in Brooklyn Square in downtown Jamestown, right on Main Street. It was moved due to the 1970 Urban Renewal, and is now located on Fairmount Avenue. Texas hits are supposed to be the best around. They're not. Small small dogs with a very smooth texture less bland chili sauce with onions and American cheese. All the textures feels and smells were not in line with my Texas hots experiences. Stick to Wellsville or Jordan's in Olean if you're looking for hots in the southern tier. Even TEXAS it self doesn't make Texas Hots the way Johnny's Lunch does. There burgers and chicken sandwiches are not that great, but if you stick with some texas hots and fries you will not be sorry... (well.. maybe later ;) ) read more

I grew up in Jamestown, and Gus and Diane were behind the counter in 1959 when my dad took me to Johnnys in Brooklyn Square, and they are still there !! They are the heart of the operation for sure. I find their sauce and their burgers and hot dogs to be addicting, they are just that good!! I have lived in the metro NYC area for 40 years, never found anything to equal their food. This is good, fried food. My kids loved it and the service was great. There are not a lot of choices for gluten free vegetarians.

As a born and raised Jamestown resident, Johnny's has always been around. They have modernized their look and made an attempt to franchise which didn't work out and I heard sort of made the original suffer. Luckily, things seem more back to normal. They are on the opposite side of town from my family, so I don't get here too often. To order "correctly" if you want the Texas Hots, you get them "With Everything" which includes mustard, onions, and Texas sauce. I personally prefer the burgers over hot dogs, so I usually stick with that. I will be honest after coming here, I probably favor the flavor of the sauce at another Jamestown hots place, but that doesn't make Johnny's bad. I am just glad they are still around. I got a milkshake for the road recently, and it was more like drinking whole milk than a milkshake. Seems like they skimped on the ice cream for the size. For the Texas Hots places in Jamestown, this has the most plentiful/nicest seating so it is good to bring out of towners. They have your order ready quickly and have that old time feel with the seating and decor. read more

So I went here because my friend was craving something better than your average chain Burger King. I have been here before and have had good service and food. Today I asked for a child size burger and fry. The young girl looked at me and said "Is this for you?" I said yes. she replied you can not do this. um.......... okay.... I asked "well I will pay full price for adult size but can you please give me a child's portion size, please". She looked at me as if I had ten heads. I kindly stated to her "I can physically not eat that much food" as I was shocked as never being turned down for a child's portion size. She stated mildly annoyed "I don't know if they can do that" I dropped it as the $2 was obviously not worth the battle. ( I simply did not want to waste food) Food was good however the girl irritated me....If I was not with a friend, I would have taken my business else where. I am not sure if I will return. Although I am a 28 year woman, I do not and cannot eat "adult" size portions. As I left I dumped out more than half of my adult portion fries and quarter of a burger that was left.. Very sad. Just very odd to be turned down for child size.. (or not have smaller portion servings on the menu) what does it matter if it is going in a 10 year old mouth or a 28 year old mouth. read more

Heard so much about this place. Definitely a must see. They have outstanding food. This is old school hotdogs and hamburgers at its best. I am from and live in Oklahoma and came up to visit mother-in-law. My wife was the one that said I had to try. I am glad I did. The service was very friendly. The place was clean and kept up. I've been going to Johnny's for years and I've never been disappointed. Absolutely the best chili dogs I've had anywhere (in the whole northeast part of the country). Very fast and very good. Also locally owned and lots of interesting local history. read more

6/30/2014 On my way back to VA from my 40 year class reunion at Pine Valley Central. Just had to stop at Johnny's get my Texas Hot fix on my way back. Used to hit Johnny's every Saturday night either before or after the races at Stateline Speedway. Got the usual of 3 hots and 3 burgers - price has gone up a little in the last 40 years but the taste is just as good. Couldn't eat all six in on sitting though, had three to take back to VA. Two of my friends would down 9 or 12 hots on some of those late nights. Got some sauce to bring home along with some Sahlen wieners from Tops and will make some of my own the rest of the week. This is a great place, everyone needs to eat here at least once in their life! read more

I've lived in Jamestown all my life, and whenever I'm in Lakewood I always stop at Johnny's. It's the BEST restaurant in town and if you find yourself near Jamestown or Lakewood I urge you to stop by and order one with everything. Friendly and super fast service, great hot food. It's always packed but they're fast enough that you never have to wait more than 5 minutes. Their milkshakes are the bomb, and the cheese fries with johnny's sauce aren't half bad either. I was born in Warren, Pa in 1953. I have been to Johnnie's Lunch since I first started eating solid foods. This place always filled my deepest longings for hot dogs. I now live in South Carolina, but I always stop to eat here when I come up for vacation. I eat here at least 2 or 3 times, and take some home as well. I would love to see this franchise a little closer to home tho. Eating here only once a year is not enough. I would travel within a 100 miles to eat at Johnnie's. It's that good! I have a brother who lives in Jamestown, and I plan on visiting him in late July. My stomach rumbles even now for them hot dogs. My three sons will be with me this time, and I hope to make it a family tradition to always eat here when their in Jamestown. read more
