2.5 star for me now. Quality and quantity are going down drastically while prices go up. I was unimpressed with the quality, quantity, and price of the chicken finger dinner the last time I was there. It was just a couple frozen Tyson style chicken fingers cooked up with a hand full of fries. That belongs on a kid's menu not for adults. My friend's burger was smaller and so was his fry portion too. Eggs are still on the runny side most of the time because they're rushing on the griddle again. I've had to send raw eggs back to finish cooking. I'm sorry, but in a sunny side up the whites shouldn't be wet still and moving like slime. They're supposed to be solid. There shouldn't be a puddle of orange goo under scrambled eggs this means they aren't cooked enough. Fries, ranch, and subs are still great. read more

When we travel whenever possible we like to avoid the national chain restaurants. If we can find a place where the locals eat, all the better. Phil-N-Cindy's is such a place. When we walked in around 10:00am, the place was packed. Only one two-top left which we promptly grabbed. The menu for breakfast is pretty standard fare. Eggs, meats, pancakes, toast, etc. I ordered the corned beef hash cheese omelet. It was quite good. My wife ordered one pancake, one egg and bacon. Also tasty. We both had coffee. The food was good, the decor is right out of home town memorabilia. Nothing fancy about the place. Just good food done well. I should mention that it is "cash only". No credit cards. But the prices are very reasonable, so not to worry. Our total bill came to $26! I gave the cashier, which is where you pay, $30 and told her the change was for the tip. She seemed happy with that. This is by far my new favorite restaurant for breakfast in Southwestern New York!!! Hands down the best morning-time stop in the area. The Plaza Diner aka The Greasy Spoon (in Salamanca) had to shut its doors over a year ago due to the untimely death of owner/cook Bob Fish. This was a true staple in the Western New York community and is missed tremendously! Phil N Cindy's is every bit as good as the Plaza! For those patrons who used to frequent The Plaza Diner I highly suggest that you take a trip down I86 to Falconer! You will NOT be disappointed. I'd like to say that the waiter, cook and busboys we're all on top of their game! Felt very welcome as we were greeted immediately and taken care of in minutes. It's monday, after a fun and busy vacation weekend, and we weren't feeling like cooking dinner. Only problem...most places with great food aren't open on Monday's. I used to frequent this establishment years ago before it was sold, so I figured that I would give it a try and take my wife there for breakfast. Bad idea!! She had a chocolate chip pancake that was listed on the menu and the upcharge for the chocolate chips was on the bill. How can you upcharge for a menu listed item? Her bacon was flavorless and completely overcooked. I had a ham a cheese omelette with home fries and toast. The omelette was flat and flavorless (which I have never had one that had no taste to it) thank god for hot sauce. The ham that they used was very thin and small pieces (I think that it may have been deli ham that they were using). Their was cheese on it but not very much. The toast when you picked it up was so under toasted and had so much butter on it that it sagged down and was like eating a sponge. The home fries, well they were ok. When we got the bill, $25 for one chocolate chip pancake (with an upcharge for the chocolate chips), bacon, a diet soda, ham and cheese omelette home fries and coffee was a bit on the exorbitant side. Most definitely will not be going back. It would have been less expensive and had a better breakfast if I would have stayed home and cooked for my wife. read more

Phil Collins and Cyndi Lauper opened this diner together, but tragically Phil spelled his wife's name wrong, and the name stuck, and they're not exactly going to change it now, are they? I mean do you have any idea how much it costs to alter a marquee? What to get: Breakfast, Hot Dogs. It's been ages since I ate here. I wish I could go back down to Jamestown to enjoy "Another Day In Paradise" at this lunch place. I took a girl here many years ago, and she said it was a lot of fun. But you know, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun." She had a breakfast special with pancakes, which she loved, but this was back before I used to taste everything that everyone had, so I can't tell you first hand how good it was. She loved it. I had hot dogs... cheap and cheerful, delicious and as good as any of the Buffalo-style dogs, with the meat sauce and onions... exactly what you'd expect, and totally scrumptious. I'm not sure if this place was the "Genesis" of the hot dog, but while it may not have invented them, it manages to perfect them, "Time After Time." No matter what you order here, they show their "True Colors" and make you delicious food. I think if you asked them to, they'd fly across the Atlantic to cook for you in Philadelphia, after cooking in London earlier the same day. Especially if you were Ethiopian. One night I really wanted a hot dog here so "I Drove All Night" to get one, but realized they were closed at nights. Oh well. I swear I could smell those hot dogs "In The Air Tonight" but I must have been mistaken. So I went dancing instead only to realize "I Can't Dance." But I did find a girl to make out with, what can I say, she was an "Easy Lover", she took a hold on me, believe it. She was like no other. Before I knew it I was on my knees. And then I was "In Too Deep." And I made her "bop" over and over. "She Bop"ped harder than she ever bopped before. Anyway, "Against All Odds" I finally wrote a review of this place years later. If you are the person who wrote a bad review of this place, I'm sorry that Phil Collins and Cyndi Lauper "Su...suddio", and I hope the lawsuit didn't cost you too much. I simply cannot figure this place out! I enjoy the old school diner feel - where they bust out flapjacks, crack eggs, and tickle your bacon on the massive flat iron grills right in front of you... but the food is marginal. I think the clutter on the walls is outdated and a bit tacky and the place is a little shoddy inside. I do love the pancakes and have never had a bad cup of coffee there before! I would recommend this place for a quick fix early in the AM especially if you feel like pounding some cakes down your pie hole, but don't expect anything more than edible. The staff is outstanding, the food is reasonably priced, the coffee is good and it is extremely convenient and fast. There's nothing like getting ready to leave a town to make you appreciative of the places you have especially enjoyed. As someone who moves a lot, eats out too often, and especially appreciates breakfast out, just this morning I made a point to go to Phil and Cindy's Lunch (for breakfast) because I hadn't been there yet. I have to admit that I have avoided it because I dreaded going into a strip mall lunch place that I was sure would be sterile and sad, with the same old white bread sandwich and neglected soup menu as every other diner. But Yelp reviewers mostly gave it five stars, and I decided I had to try it. The most pleasant surprise is the atmosphere inside. The grill is right in front, with a bar at which customers can sit, and watch the goings on, and chat with the servers. The short order cook was stressed with too many orders, and there was a pile of homefried potatoes on the back of the grill, with various egg and pancake orders in the middle. I had a sausage and cheese omelet, which was unfortunately served with American cheese, and which immediately stuck to my teeth. (What's up with that?) I also had a buttered bagel, which was smaller than I like, but my overall experience was made glorious by the home fries, breakfast potatoes that had cooked thoroughly, some of which had gotten crispy brown, and were a taste of the good life and warmer days than Jamestown was having that day (12 degrees at 11 a.m.). Okay, so I wax poetic. It was obvious by the crowd that this is a neighborhood hangout, and a regular one at that. There were specials for under $5, and while sandwiches and soup were on the menu as well, what Phil and Cindy's seemed to specialize in was a sense of community, with the servers chatting up the customers comfortably but not forced, and being overly polite to me, because I had never been there before, and they knew it. This is the kind of local eatery that makes you feel good to be part of the human race, because you can get away from the ugliness of the outside world, and into a place that may not know your name, but knows that what is important is good people, good food, and pride in your neighborhood. Really? We ordered the omelets. They were slimey. The toast was waaaay overbuttered and the home fries were soggy. Not even a fresh fruit garnish on the plate. The atmosphere was ok, very classic diner and the service was pleasant. I like that they do actually crack real eggs but I would not, I repeat not, go one step out of my way to have breakfast here.
