I really hate writing negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share our experience in hopes of sparing others the same. My group had dinner here, and unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 of us were violently sick just a few hours later. Both of us who got sick had the chicken sandwich. I'm six months pregnant and started vomiting that same night -- not exactly how I pictured the start of my vacation. It ended up ruining part of the trip and was really concerning, given my situation. We're not sure if it was the food itself, the multiple dogs roaming around the restaurant, or the man who served us wearing open-toed sandals, but it all felt unsanitary in hindsight. I was visiting from the bay and missed dinner. This was one of the only places open past 9 o'clock, and I was desperate. I assumed the worst, but I was sorely mistaken. That fried chicken slider lived up to its fame! I felt guilty eating it ,but so worth it!

We ordered some of their Happy Hour drinks and food options. The bartender and manager were very attentive and even made some recommendations. I didn't have my phone to take any pictures but for sure we will be going back. We had come here a few months ago in the evening while they had a live band. The kitchen was closed at that time but the drinks were flowing. And spot on cocktails. Looking forward to going back and trying more items on the menu. read more

We atehere twice- once for dinner, once for brunch. Dinner was better. Smash burger was on point, loved the extras. We also got chili cheese fries, (chili was like, 3-alarm chili, super super hot with zero warning or heads up on the menu). We ordered a "side salad" but was given a massive $14 salad instead with a bunch of weird extras (hard boiled egg, thick cubed chunks of salami). Blegh. Drinks and service were great. Whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK THE WATER. It's stagnant, and tastes like it was poured out of a sweaty construction workers boot. I mean AWFUL. And for a city known for its impeccable water, this was a massive fail. Also, why do they serve water in the most tiniest mason jar glasses they can find? The water is GROSS. Avoid at all costs. Brunch was chilaquiles that tasted like it was drenched in tomato sauce (I know they are partnered with the Italian restaurant next door, maybe stop using tomato sauce and put ACTUAL MEXICAN RED SAUCE instead?). Breakfast burrito was jam packed with Guacamole (they use way too much onion in their guac) and originally came with pico de Gallo inside and topped with salsa (wet burrito style). Talk about overkill. Even when I had no pico or salsa, it still tasted..."salady" with all that veg. Breakfast burritos don't need all those fancy extras. Just potato, cheese, choice of meat, and egg. By the time we stepped out of the restaurant we both agreed we would not be returning again. And that water, ugh. read more

Stopped here last weekend with my girlfriend during a weekend getaway to Calistoga. If you live nearby, apparently this to the place to be in Calistoga to watch the Niners game. The bar was packed! Luckily we were just hoping to get there for happy hour, which started as the game began to wrap up, so we were able to grab a table fairly easily. It seemed like most folks weren't eating, too, which made food service quick! They've got happy hour every day from 4-6:30pm, which was on our radar before we got to our hotel. Johnny's Bar ended up being attached to the lobby of where we stayed - Mount View Hotel & Spa - which made it all the more convenient. Happy hour consists of lots of small bites, including flatbreads, sliders, wings, nachos, tacos, and smaller bites. Beer and cocktail prices are also insanely inexpensive. The flatbread changes daily and our flatbread was goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and arugula. It was a generous enough serving for $6, but we found it to be a bit lacking without a type of sauce. Maybe the other ones have sauce, though! This was the only disappointment. Tacos on the other hand are very reasonably priced at 3 for $6, and ours came with a generous portion of carnitas on each one AND guacamole. $2 for a taco with guacamole is never a bad deal. They were smaller street tacos, but if you split a a handful of orders between a table, you could have a fairly inexpensive meal that tastes pretty good, too. Lastly, I had their Fried Chicken Slider, which was good. There was nothing TOO remarkable about it, but at $3 a pop, their sliders seemed to be a good deal too. Service was nice and waiters were fairly attentive for how busy it was. I have a feeling the environment is much different when there isn't a game going on. If we're back in Calistoga during a happy hour time, we'd probably stop back in! read more

4.5 Came in to watch the Niners vs Saints game before we went for a few wine tastings. The staff here is amazing as well as the food. One little thing I personally appreciate is how they have speakers all around so we can actually hear the games as oppose to asking someone to turn up the tv. Most restaurants mite the games but everyone in Johnny's was really into it so they turned up the sound. My friends who joined me had the breakfast burrito which they say they enjoyed very much. First time at Johnny's for happy hour and they have good deals. They offer good drink specials, cocktails, beers, wines and/or just plain liquor on its own. I've been to a number of restaurants on the Lincoln strip and they are all kinda the same, American cuisine for a pretty hefty price. Ribeyes for $48, chicken for mid $30's, I mean..come on now.. I've eaten at house of prime rib, Alexander's steakhouse in Cupertino.. all of that and these restaurants on the Lincoln strip don't come close, food quality and taste wise. Anyhow,so coming from the Bay Area we just wanted to hang out and relax a bit and have a drink or two with some decent food. Well this is where Johnny's fit the bill. Drinks were good and not overpriced, as mentioned. The vibe of the place was chill. They had UFC on for a bit and then switched it to the b-ball game so definitely a place you can hang out at when a game is on. As for food, we ordered deviled eggs, fries, fried Brussels sprouts, Jeff's tacos, two sliders and I also ordered a Cobb salad since I wanted some greens, it makEs me feel good about myself . The food has gone downhill. The price has gone up quite a bit. The menu has changed, not for the better. The staff are slow and rude. The drink special was awful and tiny. If you complain, don't go back, because they will treat you as if you have a contagious disease. Johnny's is a lovely place to brunch in Calistoga. The staff are accommodating and helpful. Their prices are reasonable. There is rarely a wait. Their menu is vast and diverse- with a plethora of both sweet and savory options - like beignets with orange brandy caramel and huevors rancheros. And for those that enjoy breakfast solo - they have a great bar that you can sidle up to with a newspaper or book. We came here with a group and their staff were great. We were able to be seated without all of our party. They were prompt at bringing out drinks. And they were very accommodating when it came to adapting dishes - due to dietary concerns etc. If you're looking for a late breakfast or an early lunch on the weekend come to Johnny's. We were looking for a place to grab a quick bite between wine tastings and we happened upon this place. There was no line, no reservations needed on a Saturday afternoon. The place is a sports bar with the restaurant centered around bar stools and lots of large TV screens. We ordered the following: 1. Sliders: At $5 each, we tried the Wagyu beef slider with bacon and the Mushroom/Chevre cheese slider. Wagyu beef slider is much more worth the $5 and was our favorite. 2. Cobb Salad - At $16, the Cobb salad left a lot to be desired. The chicken and bacon were sparse, and there were some pieces of chicken with way too much cartilege, making it hard to eat. We tried to venture down the healthier salad route, but this was not worth it. This place was okay, would be good to come with young children or for happy hour! Meh. Even while my friends and I were on the verge of starvation, Johnnys was sub par all around. The only thing that I really enjoyed was the Dutch Baby Pancake which was delicious. I came here just past noon with a few friends and we were the only ones inside the restaurant aside from another couple. Service was slow, their bloody beer was not a great substitute for Bloody Mary and they also refilled my friends iced coffee with water?? I was so excited to try this place since the pictures on yelp were very promising. The Brioche Madame looked especially good so I had to give it a try. I was quite wrong, the brioche was a bit dry and too flaky for my liking. It was paired with some butter lettuce and pickled onions which was a good palate cleanser for the pancake that I ordered on the side. My friends got the tostada which wasn't bad minus the mountain of peas on top. My other friend ordered be steak and eggs and she said it had no flavor :( The Dutch Baby pancake was everything though. Perfectly sweet, cooked and it reminded me of a huge egg tart which are my favorite :) YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! Overall, I would only come back for the pancake. Everything else was meh. This is one of the only few places to grab a decent bite to eat at 10pm in this sleeper town. Got the carnitas nachos ($16) - tortilla chips were crunchy and the guacamole was tasty. The actual carnitas were on the dry side, and I found myself dipping the meat in the French dip that came with my sliders to moisten it. The sliders ($5 each) were alright - got the beef and French dip. They were both salty enough, but could have packed more flavor and seasoning. Overall, a little pricey for what they are serving. Took a road trip to replace a treasured candlestick, and wanted brunch in Calistoga. Bar Side open for brunch... it was an nice space. Updated old building decor. They seemed a bit short staffed, but we were seated quickly. Not a huge menu, but nice selections. Great wine list. I had the French toast and sausage. Delicious brioche bread, creamy interior, crispy crust. Yummy! Nuremberg Sausage was a mild German variety, a welcomed departure from standard American faire! Hubby had the Beef Sliders and Breakfast Potatoes. I traded some sausage for the potatoes, which were great!! Hand's down one of the worst Cuban sandwiches I have ever had I bought two orders around 1230 today and paid over $30 brought them back to Santa Rosa with me and tried to eat one and one bite is All I could try first of all the roast pork was incredibly dry but the worst part of it was it was dripping with stone ground mustard and I like mustard but this thing is drowning in it and who uses stone ground mustard in a cuban it was inedible,had to throw it out and will not be recommending this to anyone read more

Pub grub was very good and reasonably priced. Recommend the fish tacos, they were delicious. We saw game 3 of the NBA playoffs and then stayed for live music Wed night open mic. Plenty of excellent live local talent here as well as visiting Bay Area pro musicians. Special shout-out to staffers Mitchell and Lexi who were super friendly and kept the patrons very well lubricated and well fed. Service was not good. No one ever came to check on us (we had to sit on side in booths) and at first we were chastised for going up to the bar to order more drinks. Also frustrated that they had 1 TV playing the game everyone wanted but kept being told it wasn't possible to put it on. Finally the bar back figured it out. Sunday morning brunch here was a great idea! First of all, their bloody mary's are excellent and made from scratch! They were delicious, spicy, just strong enough and served with the traditionals (olives, lemon, celery). The waitstaff was super nice, I give an A+ for hospitality as they were friendly, knowledgable about the menu and attentive without being annoying. Our breakfast came out quickly and everything seemed very fresh. I had the huevos rancheros (one of my favorite dishes) which was excellent, the eggs were cooked correctly and the flavors of the dish were pretty good without being too spicy. The is a bar/restaurant next door to Amaro's Italian restaurant in Calistoga. They offer pub food and have a great happy hour. Not sure if the happy hour is still in effect post Covid though. One great thing to know is that the Amaro menu is available at Johnny's too. So you can get the pub menu and the higher end Amaro's Italian menu at Johnny's. We got a mix of Amaro's and Johnny's this weekend. The vegetarian pasta was a little heavy handed with the garlic. But I'm not big on garlic. So keep that in mind. The rest of our meal was from Johnny's menu. We got the fried pickles and fried chicken sandwich. The fried were crispy and tasty. I got buffalo option on the chicken sandwich and it wasn't too spicy-hot but very tasty. The staff, service, and quality was all very good. Outdoor seating was great and I would go back again for sure. The inside is open too and plenty of folks were enjoying the inside. Too soon for me to eat inside yet. The bar service was just pathetic. We came here hopeful to eat dinner but decided to go somewhere else. After we sat down, it took 5-10 minutes to even be acknowledged (there were 3 guys working behind the bar). We ordered shots which seemed particularly small, and ordered oysters. The oysters took SO LONG to get to us, that somebody from the kitchen brought them out since the bartenders seemed to not remember to. The ice was melted and sloshy by the time we got them . It took forever, and actually raising our voices to get the bartenders attention for another drink. The teeny tiny oysters and teeny tiny shots (4) were almost $100.
