Interesting restaurant across the street from my office. They have a varietty of foods, nearly everything from lo mein to philly cheesesteaks to chicken wraps. Not sure I'd be inclined to order any of those though. Most of the entrees are between $6 and $10, with a few between $11 and $14. I ordered the 3&3 fried shrimp and oyster combo with 2 sides for $8.99. You can choose from 8 different side orders. I chose onion rings and red beans and rice. They initially brought out green beans instead of onion rings, so I was able to sample those also. They are sprinkled with what was like a cajun seasoning and just seemed a little too hard and older tasting, even though they were not canned green beans. Everything on the plate was good, but the standouts were the fresh oysters and the butterflied hand breaded shrimp. Both were a decent size and Cooked perfectly. Many customers were ordering the burger, so I will have to try that next time. Even though the staff is predominantly hispanic, the majority of customers are white, on the day I visited. The young hispanic lady at the register, who doubles as a waitress, is pretty funny and makes jokes. read more

Incredible food! You wouldn't think much driving by this place with so many restaurants around. And I've found that to be the case with some of the best restaurants in Texas City. Johnny's Seafood is some really incredible food! A co-worker can't say enough good things about the oyster po-boy. But I can't pass on a Philly cheesesteak. This place has, hands down, the best Philly I've ever had! And yeah, I've had some good ones in PA. If anyone knows a better Philly please send it my way. Also order yourself a side of green beans. No restaurant does green beans better! Give Johnny's a shot. It's your typical Texas dive restaurant serving some of the best food you can get. And the prices are very reasonable! read more

Found out that Alfie's is closed so came here for lunch. I had the lunch special of grilled shrimp, baked potato all the way with a salad and a side of hush puppies. One of the biggest potatoes I have ever had, baked perfect with cheese, at least 2 strips of thick bacon and sour cream. Salad was fresh, big, but needs to be cut up more. Shrimp are medium but very tasty with a good amount of spice. Hush puppies were crispy and flavorful. I don't know about dinner but if you have time for lunch, drop on by. Also, a very nice waitress. Writing this review for my hubby - he, my 92-year old FIL and my BIL have enjoyed this place several times since finding it about a year ago. My hubs stops in every couple of weeks to pick some gumbo up for his dad. It's an unpretentious place with straight-forward and good food. I was a little confused upon walking into this place. They had some type of mariachi music blasting but the menu was an eclectic mix of anything from a burger to a fish platter to tacos. I was also confused by their sign promoting egg rolls one for $0.65 or 4 for $2.75 (do the math...). That confusion aside, the menu's font is pretty small and hard to read standing in line. Alas I went with a lunch special of blackened tilapia and selected a salad for my side and then was confused (again) when the cashier asked what other side I wanted. I couldn't ask her many questions, however, as she took a phone call in the middle of me trying to figure out that the meals came with a second side. Alas I opted for the green beans and made my way to the table to wait. My salad came first which was a dish full of limp iceberg lettuce (not that I expected much) with little flavor. When my tilapia arrived, however, my taste buds got all the flavor they could handle. When they say blackened tilapia--they mean blackened. The fish had so much spice it was hard to get through it all. And as far as those green beans, they were fairly chewy and nothing special. Did I mention the additional confusion when they brought a whole additional plate of tilapia to our table after everyone already had their plate. I have eaten here several time when I use to work right up the street but today I meet my aunt there because she wanted some and boy let me tell you it's still mmm mmm good. She got shrimp and chicken quesadillas but I got the shrimp Alfredo it's delicious and a generous amount . read more

Dad and I had shrimp gumbo. Roux base was very thick. Shrimp were definitely fresh but overall not great gumbo. Cannot recommend the gumbo.

We went there because of the past reviews. We ordered cheeseburgers and onion rings. Service was fast. We took our order to go. The beef patties were chewy and filled with gristle. Don't go for the ambiance. Go for the food. I got the Texas Bacon Cheeseburger, and it was massive, yummy, and juicy. I savored it for quite some time and got several refills of (very good) coffee. Super good food and pleasant people to help you decide on what to order. We stumbled on this place and decided to ignore the sketchy exterior and see why so many cars were outside this place . Walked in and were surprised by the amazing fact that even though they serve seafood there was no fishy smell which immediately made me excited ! You can always tell a good seafood place from a bad one based on smell. I ordered the lunch special of catfish and shrimp , it was phenomenal . This was a very pleasant experience. The lady at the counter gave each of us a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo to try while we looked over the menu--not a sample but a full serving . We both ordered the 6-fried shrimp dinner, which comes with two sides and a piece of garlic toast. I had fries and hush puppies, and my dining companion had fries and cole slaw. The platter was $8.49. The shrimp were large and hand-breaded. (There were actually 7 on each of our plates.) The hush puppies tasted home-made (and based on the various sizes of each, I am sure they were.) The fries were fairly standard though they were sprinkled with seasoning.They could have been crisper. My dining companion enjoyed his cole slaw as well. The woman who gave us the gumbo kept our drinks filled. The menu is a somewhat odd blend of seafood, Mexican food, Italian food, Chinese food, and hamburgers. With such an eclectic menu, diners should be able to find something to their liking. It is counter-service, but the food is delivered to your table. When we first got there (too) loud Hispanic music was playing. Later, that was replaced with zydeco. The TV (with volume on) was tuned to the winter olympics. The restaurant serves Pepsi products via the soda fountain, but Coca Cola products were available in cans in a cooler. read more
