Johnny's is fantastic! We're relative fishing novices. We went in on a Saturday morning to get our reels re-strung. They were super helpful in guiding us on the best choice, and strung them quickly. It was ridiculously cheap: less than $6 for three reels (two kids; one adult). They also gave our kids' free stickers. I then had a question about some nets, and the employee walked me through all of them and explained the differences of each. He was very helpful in guiding me to the best choice for me. My brother-in-law invited us out to fish for his bachelor party and swung by Johnny's to pick up some tackle. My son tagged along and was amazed at all the gear. Warren took the time to explain what the gear was and how it worked. We ended buying a pole for my kid and landed a nice little bass that following weekend. Been coming for over 10 years and enjoyed doing business with you guys until Bobby to say "does he know how to take care of his reels" was extremely rude, especially me standing right there. I've been fishing for 40 years and not that you care but I do take care of my gear. It could have been anything and for Bobby to just say that without really knowing what's going on, I took great offense. You were right in saying there's something probably serious going on was acceptable. Family-owned and operated for years, and everyone there is knowledgeable and helpful, even to a fishing scrub like myself. Parking lot out front is sort of small, but I've never has trouble finding it. They have pretty much everything you need here for fishing equipment, from fresh to salt. Hooks, weights, reels, poles, and everything in between. Even has a small section for clothing and boots. I'd say prices are on par with the much larger chain stores, but you won't get the service or knowledge to match what's found here. Need a license, annual or day pass? You can get them here, too. Went in today to get my first setup for an upcoming deep sea trip. Up to now I'd been borrowing tackle but Warren gave me a full run down on what to consider and worked through several options - probably brought out at least ten different reels and about that many rods. By the end I felt very clear on how to manage building my setups and left with a great deal on two reels and two rods. I went in here kind of nervous. I hadn't fished for many years, and was never very good. So I didn't know where to start. Vincent and Eric helped me select equipment in my price range, listened to what sort of fishing I wanted to do and showed me how to make a proper rig. Warren was the guy. I let him know that my wife and I wanted to go fishing, but we had a couple of older rods that her dad owned. He checked it out and said that we can use them, but would need a new line for the one reel. He showed us a couple of affordable reels and a couple of rod and reel set. We chose a new rod and reel, a new reel, some tackle that we might need, and all new line. He was very knowledgeable and not pushy, trying to sell some expensive gear. Also, there was surprisingly lots of traffic with customers of various experience, who came in and helped.
