This was not happening for me, so I knew it was the fuel pump. After two hours the two truck came to my rescue in the cold and darkness. I brought the car to my home. Then on Monday, I called John's and asked if they could fix my car. I had several friends recommend them. I am so happy that I went there. They have a new customer for life! Pros: Very fair prices on parts and R&R. Nice and trustworthy Owners and Mechanics. Cons:very limited parking space. I let them know when the tow truck was in the way. I dropped my car off on Tuesday to get coolant leak on my wife's car diagnosed and they said they would probably have to do the diagnostic the next day because they were slammed due to this being right after 4th of July weekend , I explained we were having to rent my wife a car until this repair was completed, later on Tuesday i got a call confirming the diagnostic and told them to go ahead and do the work. They told me they might be able to have it done Thursday afternoon but by the latest Friday. Thursday by lunch i got a call saying my wife's car was ready. They had to drop the motor and replace a water pump on a Lincoln MKZ inside the timing chain cover and I had the car back in 2 days, did i mention they didn't try to upsell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need. The price of this mechanic is very reasonable and I did not have to wait to get it. I was able to call and drop off the car the same day. I ended up needing new breaks and rotors and they gave me a good deal on getting all four done so I did because I knew I was going to need them. I brought my car in for an A/C issue (cold on one side only) and mentioned it could be the actuator or damper. Without confirming, they added Freon and dye, charged me $136, and sent me on my way--problem not fixed. When I called back, they wanted me to return for more work. Total waste of time and money. To top it off, the owner's son was rude and unprofessional, even arguing with my husband in the lobby. I won't be back. read more

I had a major Engine failure in my jeep, the dealer quoted exponentially higher for repairs than Johns Automotive. I ended up towing my jeep over and had it back in a few days. I'm going to leave this here and let you decide. Like you, I came here to find a decent mechanic on my side of town, close to my house, so that I could have my car looked at because it was not starting. Despite some of the negative reviews on Yelp, I took a chance on John's which was less than 3 miles from my house. I had my Honda Pilot towed there Monday. By Tuesday morning, a guy named John called me to ask if there was an issue with my key. I asked for clarification, and he said "When you put the key in, there is something that comes up on the instrument panel which tells you if the key belongs to that car. If it doesn't come up, then the car won't start." So I told him that I recently switched my fob out after it cracked. He then started to talk to me about getting a new key re-cut. I stopped him there and told him I still had the old fob, and that the key he had in his hand was the one that came out of the fob, and with the old fob, it should work again. I offered to bring the old fob back up there, which I did immediately. A few hours later they called me to tell me I didn't transfer the Transponder from one key fob to the other, and once they did that, the car started. Around 5pm I went to pick up my car and was greeted with a bill for $44. I paid the bill, then took it home trying to find online where moving one transponder from one fob to the other would cost that much. I then returned today to ask if they had a flat rate for diagnostic, or if they charged me a specific amount of labor in time. He said the $40 was for their expert diagnosis, and the surgical precision it took for them to move one piece of plastic the size of macaroni from inside one key fob, to the other, AND test the key by turning my ignition twice, once to confirm it didn't work, then the final turn post op to confirm success. Considering the amount of skill, and thought they must have poured in to that repair, I was still doubtful that this job took more than 20 minutes, so I tested myself doing the same thing when I got home, and it took me about 15 minutes moving slowly, I even added in 5 mins for a phone call (so 10 minutes labor, then the call). Now, I clearly don't have the technical expertise that they have at John's Automotive, so you would have to imagine someone with 6 months or more of automotive prowess could have drank a six pack, smoked a bowl and still did it faster than me.......right? Anyway, when I was up there, I asked John if he thought the price was commensurate to the work performed he quickly and emphatically shouted YES, as if he had been waiting for that question his entire life. He then accused me of trying to get the work done for free, which I told him, NO, I just didn't think the price to move a small piece of plastic from one key fob, to the other cost $40. He challenged me to talk to other mechanics in the city as he had it on good faith that the going rate for the same procedure would easily be $150, so I should be washing the 5W 20 off of his hands and thanking him for giving me the Dumbass of the Day Discount. A discount by the way that was never quoted to me, nor did I sign and agree to before they began performing the work and which included $1.20 in shop supplies? It should also be mentioned that the invoice was created and billed right after our Phone call, so he knew he was going to charge me $44, but never mentioned it....AT ALL. So, I'm not saying don't go to John's Automotive. The only thing I did was question their ability to quickly diagnose a repair (without my assistance), then charge fairly and accurately for the work they performed. If you think they did, then trust your vehicle AND your purse in the loving arms of John's Automotive. Tell'em The Dumbass of the Day sent you. Maybe you'll get the same discount. Oh, check the dates on those positive reviews. They're from years ago, and the bad ones are within the last year. Looks like the place isn't your PeePaw's John's Automotive anymore. read more

On July 27/22, John's garage gave me written quote of $515.00 to repair the front end. On July/14/2022, I dropped the car off, they said price would be "about the same" as what they had quoted several months ago. On July/15/2022, the owner, John, called me. He advised that he has already started the repairs but the price is now going to be $1,585.00, more than THREE TIMES the amount I was quoted IN WRTTING. I was prepared to pay the amount quoted but NOT an additional $1,150.00. His excuse was, that they "found more" problems than when they initially diagnosed it and provided the written quote. I asked him, 'why didn't he call me BEFORE he started the work, especially with it now being three times the original quote? His answer was "well it's an old car" I said the age of the car has nothing to do with you waiting until after you started the repairs to blindside me with this new quote, and he knew it was old when they quoted me in July and knew it was old when they accepted to do the repairs yesterday. Worse, on the written quote he typed 'STEERING GEAR TO TIGHT EFFWCTIVE STEERING BOX...' but stated nothing about replacing the box itself (which was replaced recently by another mechanic). He wanted to argue that the word "effective' was a typo and I should have known he meant it was supposed to be 'defective'. I had to tell him that 'effective' is a word too, and I am not responsible for his typos. His new "quote" included replacing a 'worn out' sway bar, which I had replaced two years ago. The work he had already done was to replace the steering box. He said "just come pick up the car" so I did. When I got there they charged me over $200.00 for replacing the steering box, which I had to pay to get my car back. The icing on the cake? Driving home the steering wheel is now crooked, tilting to the left at about 45 degrees. So, even though they charged my They DIDN'T even do the job right! Now I will have to pay someone else to fix the front end AND I'll have to pay extra to correct their failure of poor workmanship and straighten up the steering wheel. I cannot recommend John's automotive to ANYONE. Shame on you, John's Automotive for poor customer service and sloppy workmanship. read more

Some people prefer big fancy buildings and modern looks, but when it comes to a good auto repair place all I care about is expertise, honesty, and price. John's automotive hits all of those marks! They get pretty busy so its best to arrive as early as possible, but they took great care of us and their prices are unbelievably competitive and reasonable! We needed a full out inspection before shipping our vehicle overseas. Now we can ship it in full confidence that it will be in good working order. To top it off they'll let you know that they actually did you a favor by replacing a good working one with one that is not not functioning and not doing the job your requested. If you are reading this review, chances are you are either new to the area and wanting to find a place for preventive maintenance, or (more likely) you're stressed out because your car is having problems and you need an honest repair shop that won't try to rob you blind. If you're a woman, you're probably also trying to find one that won't talk to you like you have a vacuum between your ears, with either the John Wayne "there, there, li'l lady" or the sleazy "don't you worry your pretty little head, I'll tell you what you need" attitude. So I'll give you my honest review, from the single female perspective. When my car developed a leak in the cooling system, I cried. I don't have tons of money right now to spare, but I also can't afford a new car, and driving with a major coolant leak is a good way to need a new car. So I searched Yelp, and read the reviews here: mostly positive, with the few negative reviews sounding like there was perhaps something more to the story. So, I took a chance, and I am VERY GLAD I did. I showed up first thing in the morning, and they took me as one of the first customers, since I had to go back to work. While waiting, I had a lovely chat with longtime customers, some of whom have been customers for more than 20 years. I watched the owner and his son as they dealt with customers, many on a first name basis. I watched as they expertly dealt with multiple issues, and worked quickly and efficiently. I never, not ONCE, during the time I was there heard them try to inflate prices, talk someone into something they didn't need, or try high pressure tactics. Instead, I watched them juggle in customers around the customers' schedules, give accurate quotes, and even watched them DOWNSALE a customer who had a less serious problem than originally thought. For a small shop, they did an amazing amount of business in a short time, with a smile and a kind word for everyone. As for me, my problem was more serious than I thought (aren't they always?). I thought I had a cracked radiator hose. It turns out it was my water pump. As soon as I heard those words, I knew I was in for an incredibly expensive, time consuming fix. So I took a deep breath, and asked how much. He quoted me a price, which was about $300 lower than I was afraid it would be. He told me it would take a bit of time, so I immediately thought "Oh my God, I'm going to be here all day, I'm going to have to try to figure out how to get to work, maybe it can't even be done today" and started to hyperventilate (okay, yes, I am a bit of a drama queen). Then he said "It'll be about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours, I'm sorry." I've waited for an oil change for more than 3 hours before ... I can't believe he was apologizing for a major repair taking 2 1/2 hours. So I waited, and kept thinking, okay, when's the upsale going to happen? When is one of them going to pull me aside and "explain" that this, that or the other thing just HAS to be replaced or your car will explode and you'll die a horrible death in a twisted wreck (it's happened before)? When he came back in, I braced myself, but all he said was that I also needed a belt and would it be okay if they replaced that as well? I was dumbfounded, and said yes, of course. Then a short time later, his son came in and said my car was finished. My total bill was about 30 dollars more than originally quoted, because of the belt, AND they were done in almost exactly 2 1/2 hours, during which time they examined my car, talked to me, and replaced the water pump and the serpentine belt. I'm not a car expert, but I'm pretty sure the serpentine belt is the one that goes everywhere and is a huge pain in the rear end to replace. The last time I got a quote on a serpentine belt (another car, another place, about ten years ago) it was over a thousand dollars, and I was told it would take about 6 to 8 hours. There was no scare tactics, no condescending talk, no huge inflations on the bill, no long drawn out repairs. Just honest, hardworking pleasant people who treated everyone with courtesy. Oh, I forgot to mention, there's also a 12 month warranty on the work. Who does that anymore? Most places you're lucky if you're warrantied until you drive out of the parking lot. I can see why people have been coming here for years. I guarantee as long as I am in the area I certainly will be. I am grateful to the other Yelp reviewers who helped me find this place, and I hope this review may help you when choosing an auto repair shop. read more

I wanted to love this place because it had great reviews. I took my truck in for some brake work and not only did they leave air in my brake line, but we ended up having to replace our brake booster again less than a couple months later. I even took my truck back less than 10 minutes after leaving to tell them I could tell something was wrong with the brakes, but they dismissed me as a confused female. John's Auto saved me over $500. I took my truck to the dealer for an Oil Change. Upon completion of my so-called FREE Oil Change, the Dealer Representative told me there was a huge nail in my tire and that it would be $314 for a new tire (The Dealer didn't have in stock, but could have it there later that day) I told the Dealer Rep that my husband thought the $314 was awful expensive for a tire. The Dealer Rep. then proceeded to "paint a gruesome picture" of what would happen to me IF I drove my truck without the tire being replaced. (you know the usual scare tactics, Big Accident...I die!!! Blah, Blah, Blah) The angry Dealer Rep. informed me that he would see me the next day because there was NO WAY I was going to be able to get a better price on the tire. He also threw in that since my truck was almost at the mileage for a Tire Rotation he'd go ahead and put that on the Work Order (at an additional cost of $147) for my return tomorrow. Needless to say, my nerves were rattled. I've heard the crazy stories of things dealerships do and say especially to women to get them to authorize very expensive work to be done to their vehicle, but I'd never actually known the person. It's always been a friend of a friend kind of story, so I tried to give the dealership the benefit of doubt. NOT ANY MORE!!! It happened to me. Foolishly, I went looking in my purse for my truck keys that the Dealer Rep. was still in possession of, but then I saw a John's Automotive business care and decided a second opinion couldn't hurt. I immediately went to John's Automotive, just in case the Dealer Rep. was being honest and the more I drove on the tire the more dangerous it became. I showed the young man the paperwork I got from the dealer. He went out, took my tire off and examined all my tires. He couldn't find anything wrong. The young man came back inside and told me that, sometimes when the weather gets cold the light will come on, letting you know that the tire pressure is low but as soon as the afternoon sun arrives the light should go off. The young man went ahead and checked the tire pressure in all my tires and informed me that if the light didn't go off or anything else happened to bring my truck back. When I left John's Automotive the light was off and I've had NO PROBLEMS at all. That was 14 days ago!!! I didn't want to write a review and then walk out the next morning to discover a flat tire, so I waited until I was good and sure that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my tire and the Dealer was just out to make a few extra dollars off me. (Yes, I know that I said John's Automotive saved me over $500 in the first sentence. And if you do the math, a $314 tire plus $147 for the tire rotation only equals $461. Seriously, if I had let them do the work, do you think that labor would have been free? That's how I came to my over $500 in savings.) read more

Great Service! I had what I expected to be a serious electrical issue only to find out that is was just a bad cable. My $300+ repair cost me a little over $100 and that INCLUDED TOWING. They could have easily bumped up the price, but I have found they are very honest (a rare quality I'm afraid).
