This is exactly what you would hope for from a hole in a wall type spot in a random location in the IE. Solid tasty burger, at a great price. Not trying to be anything it's not. Does a few things and does them well. Their sauce is top notch, burgers have a nice char, and the ingredients are fresh. Know what you are getting going in. A cheaply priced meal, with good ingredients, made to order. In a place that looks like it's been around since at least the 80s. And done well. Gotta keep places like this alive. First off, this joint survives because it's convenient for the neighborhood. That's really what keeps it alive. The place is filthy and looks like no one ever cleans it. The dining area appears to be a patio that was converted into an enclosed seating area. You can still see the original pillars and brickwork, which don't match the rest of the decor. There was also a car show flyer taped to the front door for an event in Riverside that happened last October. That's just lazy. How hard is it to clean up and remove outdated signs? To me, that's an indicator of a lazy staff, and I don't want a lazy staff preparing my food. The guy at the order window is short with customers and rushes you while ordering. He won't make substitutions, either. The problem is that he's also the gatekeeper for all the condiments and napkins. The dining area is basically just a box with a trash can, you don't have access to anything yourself. Whatever he decides to give you is what you get. There's no room for discussion. Now for the FOOD I ordered three chicken-fried burgers, and there was absolutely no consistency between them. I added pickles to all three, but one burger had only a single pickle. One burger was as dry as the Dead Sea, with no mayonnaise at all. Another had the right amount of mayonnaise, but the lettuce was mostly white stems. Goldilocks wouldn't be able to find a burger that was "just right" at this place. The fries were a mix of undercooked and burnt, which is impressive in all the wrong ways. The portion was also ridiculously small. For the price of the combo, you'd think they could provide a reasonable amount of fries. As for the chicken-fried patty itself, it was paper-thin, about as thick as two quarters stacked together. I like my chicken thick, like my wife's Mexican booty. Overall, don't go out of your way to stop here. If you don't live nearby, there's nothing worth writing home about. They're incredibly stingy with their portions, condiments, and napkins. I've eaten in some real dumps before. Hell, I've eaten kangaroo, raw beef, and even camel while sitting on the floor and eating with my hands, and those experiences beat this place. Save your money and go to Red Robin, or even walk across the street to Pizza Loca. read more

Grandpa took me here a lot when I was in college and I always enjoyed the burgers. My #1 burger place to go to in San Bernardino. Sadly I didn't get to go to it on my trip to Southern California recently. Next time though, the service is great, they are very friendly. Earlier today on my lunch, I went around 1220 as I'm sitting waiting for my food. I noticed the Asian guy that takes the orders. He has no gloves on or even washes his hands. I watched him grab a chicken burger, the patty with bare hands, no gloves and throw it onto the grill to deep fry it. I also seen him in the back. He sneezed again did not wash his hands, and he continued to cut the zucchini with his bare hands and now one time did I see him wash his hands after he had sneezed I don't know why they haven't got like a surprise check but this place seriously needs to be looked out for health violations because this is just unacceptable. I work downtown and was craving a good California fast food burger. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try -- I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews. The burger patties strongly resembled those from the bulk Smart & Final burger patty box -- the kind you cook straight from frozen. This suggests the meat isn't very fresh, likely frozen at least a couple of times. The burger included a single, thick slice of tomato and a generous portion of lettuce. The bun was nicely toasted, but the fries were thick-cut and lacked seasoning. Overall, it was a mediocre burger from a place that claims to specialize in burgers. Portions were another disappointment, especially given the price. The double cheeseburger combo was $11.50, but I ended up paying $12.50 because I used a card -- with no clear signage about the fee, which violates California restaurant code. The fries were about half to three-quarters of the typical portion you'd expect from a California fast food spot. When I asked for ketchup, they handed me just three packets. Even the drink was small, served in an 8 oz cup -- and they didn't even bother to fill it to the top and skimped on the ice. The atmosphere didn't help either. The restaurant was completely silent aside from the sounds of the kitchen -- no music, no TV -- more sterile than a hospital waiting room. Despite the dining room being full, the lack of background noise seemed to make people uncomfortable to talk. Great burgers and fries! I came here after dropping my friend off at San Bernardino Station so he could take the train towards Los Angeles, in what is probably the worst imaginable commute on Earth except for driving towards Los Angeles - and I was pretty hungry for unclear reasons, so I decided to see what was nearby. I located John's Burgers, a fairly nondescript burger joint not so far from the station. It had just opened, so I decided to visit as their first probable customer of the day. Place is cash only, but it's not so bad because the price includes taxes. So when the combo says "$10", it's actually just a $10 bill - you aren't "why can't I hold all these watermelons" fumbling with endless coins for the coin god. Anyways, I opted for the double bacon cheeseburger $10 combo, because I make bad but tasty health decisions. The fries came out piping hot (good!). They weren't quite as large as steak fries, but they were definitely large enough - large enough that I could bite into them and see steam arise from the fresh hot potatoes inside. Anyways, the fries are absolutely awesome, and I basically inhaled them. The burger was a crisp, flavorful burger. Wasn't too greasy and you could taste all of the vegetables inside the burger, as well as the bacon. It also wasn't messy, and it wasn't too big to fit in the mouth. In terms of flavor profile, the 1000 Island dressing and the fresh vegetables really made me think of it as a lot like an In and Out Burger, but just broadly fancier/bigger/nicer. So in short - an absolutely great burger! Nothing here was really surprising or reinvents American fast food - but it's just a really good burger and fries at a reasonable price. Great burgers and salads. And a good place to people watch. During the week, you can see lots of friends. And on weekends, its a lot of fun to see the excited groups of kids, and families from out of town. The selections are good. Quite a few burgers and a quite comfortable diner style menu, as well. The staff is very attentive and although the place is almost always bustling, the pace is quite impressive, considering the crowds.
