This burger place is hidden in plain sight, on second street, right across from the strip mall by the train station in San Bernardino. I've driven past it many times, just assuming it was closed. Today, I guess I was driving around a bit slower (or just more aware of my surroundings) and noticed an "Open" sign in the window, so I stopped in. Walking in, you'll feel like you time traveled to the 70's. There is fake wood paneling everywhere and the place is dingy and not well lit. At first, you might think to yourself, "Eh, methinks not." I decided to go with my gut (it rarely leads me wrong) and order from here anyway. WHOA! The single bacon cheeseburger was absolutely delicious (and huge). Thin meat patty, crispy bacon, lots of lettuce and onion, a thick slab of tomato, with a healthy helping of 1,000 island and some pickles sandwiched between two buns. I took a bite, then had to instantly take a few more. I couldn't believe how good this burger was! The fries were unremarkable (I mean, they're fries, right?). The service was friendly and quick. My Wife used to come here as a kid, and claims that it is good. I beg to differ. First you pull into a vacant lot, with this hole-in-the-wall spot adding to the eyesores surrounding the area. One wonders if its called "John's Burger" because of all the prostitution that goes on in this lot at night. You walk into the most dated restaurant in the Inland Empire, and read the "cash only" sign as flies buzz you in the face. Some riff-raff will greet you with a dirty look from their dirty face as they shovel food into their mouth. The Ladies and Old Man that own/work there are nice enough to you as you look at the menu, and faded pictures of burgers that were taken in the 80's and taped to the wall. If you don't walk right back out at this point, you must be feeling adventurous, and you place your order and sit down at a dirty table and hope the chair doesn't fall apart on you. The graffiti on your table reminds you that only San Bernardino's finest citizens frequent this fine establishment. You get your food somewhat quickly, and it looks ok. I happened to get a Double-Bacon Cheeseburger combo, and my little boy just got a cheeseburger combo. The burger isn't great, but isnt god-awful either. You can tell they make the bacon at the beginning of the day and just keep it in a metal bin next to the grill to reheat it as they need to. The burgers are the same frozen hockey-pucks you can get from any supermarket, and the cheese isn't really cheese, is processed cheese slices that resemble government cheese. The fries are thick-cut, processed and frozen until they flash fry them for a minute. They aren't very good, overcooked and short little nubs for the most part. I ate most of my food. My Son didn't even eat half of his burger and fries, asking if we can go to "In-and-Out" later. We shuffled through the forest of cheap chairs to get to the trash and throw out our leftovers. Went to get a couple of drink refills, but we were charged fifty-cents per refill. Classy. Make sure you tell them "no more ice please" as they will attempt to give you minimal drink to go with your cup of ice. Only reason this is not a "one-star" review is because they staff wasn't rude, and the food wasn't horrible. It just wasn't good enough to return. I could easily make better burgers and fries at home at less than half the price. read more

John's is a life saver. My friends and I were on a long bus trip and the bus stopped across the street to pick up more people. We ran into John's and it took less than 10 minutes to make 5 burgers, 2 fries, and 4 sodas. We got back on the bus with 5 min to spare. The woman behind the counter was friendly and funny too. Found this place on Yelp on our way down to San Diego. We initially thought about hitting In and Out, but I saw this place was right off the freeway. The photos and reviews convinced us to stop! A little, non-descript location less than 2 miles off the freeway. Super nice lady took our order, small cheeseburger with onion rings and a double bacon cheeseburger with fried zucchini. Johns Burgers is the bomb, have been going here for over 20 years. Their burgers are the best (something in the seasoning i think). They are a good size. Ordering combos off the A, B,C and D menus is great (i always get letter "C"). Zucchini is yummy. Only thing i wish they would do is remodel. Parking is rocky, unlevel with alotta cracks, the inside could use it to. It is a hole in the wall but sometimes those kinda places have the best food and this is one of them. read more

This is not my first time going to this establishment. I went today and 1st off they got my order wrong I asked for a burger with no cheese and they have me a burger with cheese. 2nd both of my burgers were cold as if they didn't even bother to defrost them and throw them on the grill. I called and they didn't want to believe me stating their cook had been there for 20 years then the lady taking my complaint went on to defend her husband saying he took the order and we didn't say no cheese. Instead of listening she kept cutting me off to say there was no way they would give me my burger cold. The service was horrible and the way they tend to their complaints was even worse.
