The time had come for me to buy a new car. I dreaded the process. I pulled onto the lot of a nearby new car dealership and immediately felt trapped. I could see the sharks inside - eyeing me up. They were just waiting for me to stop so they could attack. I left. Cruising down Lancaster Avenue I saw John's Great Cars. I have heard their radio ads for a long time and drove onto the lot. Salesman Jim was in the lot and smiled and waved. He didn't rush us as most dealers do. He came over and asked what I was looking for and pointed our two options. I immediately loved the one. I asked for the lowest price and what they offered was fair and a great deal. Everyone in the process was laid back, honest and amazing. They couldn't have been nicer. John was outside washing cars. While the owner of a used car lot in Reading isn't on the same social strata as a king or president of a country it was nice to see that the owner was humble and a working man. We will 100% return here for a future car. Without a doubt. PS: After getting home we noticed a TINY nick in the windshield. ONE YEAR LATER One year since I bought my P.O.S crappy car/LEMON from this HORRIBLE car dealer! A car that (technically) should have only cost $6,000 (he inflated the price to $10,000) and I spent $8,000 in repairs. Ladies, please bring a skilled mechanic, boyfriend, husband so you're NOT taken advantage like I was! I was sold a lemon! John sold me a 2013 Chevy spark for $10,000. Kelly blue book day of Purchase was $6,000 (mileage was close to 100,000 miles). Yes! I'm a LOSER for knowingly overpaying for the car, but was Desperate to get out of my rental. So I purchase this P.O.S and just 1 week later, car starts to fall apart...needed new battery, 4 new tires, new wheel, spare tire, radiator. Brakes, oil change, new key, repairs to the transmission, engine light stays on, car stalls every 4 days and we still haven't figured out the problem is AND left me stranded on 6 different occasions (I have RECEIPTS FOR ALL REPAIRS). I never called AAA so much in my LIFE (6 Xs within 2 month period). This dealership got me good!!!! They got me REAL GOOD! I don't like being taken advantage of, I work really hard for my Money to be throwing it away on $5,000 in car repairs and maintenance AFTER paying a $4,500 inflated price! $15,500 total is what I paid for a 2013 Chevy spark with close to $100,000 miles. My daughter went to get a car had $6000.00 down payment and a ok credit score and was told because she was at her current job for a month they couldn't help her and she needed a cosigner. Now mind you she was at her previous job for almost two years and didn't have a lap in employment just took a different job. She left this car dealership almost in tears. We purchased a 2010 Ford F150 from John's Great Cars and couldn't have been more impressed with their service. The staff is extremely friendly and as honest as can be. We wanted to purchase the truck ASAP, but since it was a new addition to their inventory, they wanted to have their mechanic look over the truck thoroughly before selling it to us. Most auto dealers would have jumped on the sale, but John's wanted to make sure we were getting a vehicle that was not misrepresented by them before selling it. After it was approved by their mechanic, we made the purchase. It was a simple, no-pressure transaction. And we felt like we were treated like family throughout the process. And just to note, we had our personal mechanic look over the truck as well, and he gave it a "thumb up" saying it was in great condition. John's will not lie to you about the vehicles they sell. No Stars here.....Emails back and forth to the dealer during the week about a CORVETTE the dealership had for sale. Emailed Harry on Friday (11/6/2021 in the morning) that I was coming down to look at a car that he and I were talking about via email. My phone number was included on all correspondences. Emailed again on Saturday confirming that I was coming to look at the car that day. We also spoke on the phone. My hubby and I took a 2 1/2 hour drive to check out the car. Walked in and was told the car was SOLD....We were told that an email was sent back to me asking What Time were are plans to come down...We never saw the email because we were traveling....AND, I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER BUYER....AND Mr. Harry had my phone number,, WHICH MEANT HE COULD HAVE CALLED ME. He was very cavalier about the whole situation and stated several times that we needed to respond to his latest email with a specific time of arrival. Since we did not do that he proceeded as described above. Total disregard for my time (total round trip time of 5 hours), efforts and cost (gas prices!). This whole situation speaks to the dealership lack of credibility, integrity and overall customer service. read more

I purchased a vehicle from here and after a few weeks had an issue with the car not starting. I would jump the car and it would run for a couple of weeks the issue would occur again, this went on several times. I took my vehicle to the Service Center and was told one time the vehicle's electrical system was looked at thoroughly by the mechanic that specializes in this area only to find according to the Service Center a loose wire. After continous going back and forth I was given a battery charger so when the issue occurred I could charge the car that was their resolution. I was told when it happened again they would be able to fix the problem. Finally, after days loss of work and frustration I took my vehicle to a dealership and within 24hrs found the issue, a corroded battery wire. Remember I was told this was done by the Service Center. Called Harry the night before about a specific vehicle. He had it out and ready for the test drive when I arrived. It was good, but a little small. We then started to talk about some of the other cars in the price range I was looking at. It is amazing the number of low mileage quality cars they had available under $10,000.00. I bought a 2014 Subaru Forester from here. They worked with me fantastically and even shampooed the seats for me one last time. The car has been great and I was even told which cars to stay away from. Most bad reviews revolve around the car purchased and to that I would just say do your research before you purchase any vehicle. Some cars are more prone to issues than others which is neither the fault of the dealership itself nor the salesman. This was my first car purchase ever at 20 years of age and I stuck with a brand I knew would last, because I did my research, and have had one minor leak which is getting fixed at this moment thanks to my warranty. A used car will always be a used car and problems will arise. If you want a car without problems then I'd recommend getting a new car with bumper to bumper warranty. As for Johns Great Used Cars, I couldn't recommend this place enough and would give it six stars if I could due to excellent customer service and a very honest and knowledgeable staff. read more

I could have saved a LOT of time had I started my car search here. I just relocated from living in England for three years and need EVERYTHING: house, furniture, warm clothes, snow shovel--and a car. I spent a month with my partner searching dealerships from Florida (where our plane landed) to Philly for the right car at the right price. Grayson Beck was the only salesman from any dealership that answered email queries and seemed interested in helping me, even though we weren't meeting face-to-face. I wasted time test-driving cars elsewhere. When I got to John's Great Cars (unannounced), my partner and I were met with smiles and firm handshakes. The two cars I had been looking at online were driven up to the dealership's doors for me to drive and they were immaculate--inside and out. My partner is a master mechanic and checked everything on both cars. He said I could take my pick because they were both safe and sound. I was interested in the bigger, more expensive car and thought I'd have to walk out with nothing. Instead, they crunched some numbers and in about 10 minutes, I had agreed to buy the bigger car for less than what I'd have had to pay for the smaller one. The staff is friendly, honest, eager to earn your business and seem very family-oriented. The showroom is a throw-back to the 50s or 60s, but that makes them charming and homey. This is the first Yelp review I've ever written. They deserve some recognition for doing a fabulous job in what is traditionally thought of as a cut-throat, dishonest trade.
