Coming away from San Jose we found a hidden gem in this town. Prices are fair. Excellent BBQ chicken plate, and great tiramisu cheesecake. Good taste and quality made by Rose who was kind and friendly with us. Everything packed in order and she gave us more portions in our orders. The staff was very friendly and the food that we ordered was delicious! The store is an older store; but is filled with snacks, fresh food, and almost anything else that you would need. This isn't authentic Mexican food. Lacked the seasonings and the burrito was not wrapped properly, fell apart immediately. There was a group of locals picking up and waiting to order. It's inside of a market with some groceries/canned food, chips, sodas, and lots of alcohol/beer. The woman cooking is super sweet and I believe is the wife of the owner, the gentleman at the register. The inside is larger than you can see from the outside and feels jam packed with lots to choose. I hope they introduce some new menu items with food from their culture. I always get carnitas on which how I judge a good Mexican food. I ordered super burrito with carnitas and came out huge. All the food in here are all to go. The food was not good. The flavor of the pork is weird. The burrito is 10 dollars which I am not complaining ( I even gave a tip for the nice lady who made the burrito) but the taste was not good. They put jalapeños and corn which I think it shouldn't be there. I ate a lot of Mexican food from SF even in LA. The chicken tacos I ordered had frozen corn and peas mixed in with them. FROZEN CORN AND PEAS IN A TACO?!?!? It was by far the most disgusting dish I have ever ordered from a restaurant in my life. I came here based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews which is very disappointing. Usually my fellow yelpers do not lead me astray like this but the food we received was simply revolting. I found this place by accident... I was serching for a grocery store in Kelseyville to buy some produce. Since I was new to the area, I had my sister look it up online, and she found that there weren't many options... but she told me about John's Market and that there were reviews on Yelp about the good Mexican food in the back. I thought I would check it out. As I walked by I could see they were bbq'ing the meat right out side, and boy did it smell delicious!!! I went in side and read their menu board... They were so cheap! I told my sister I would have to try that soon since we love our burritos! :) Well, I ended up going there the same night... and I ordered three large beef burritos... for me and my family. OMGOODNESS. They were delicious... The meat was so tasty... you could tell it was seasoned and bbq'ed perfectly. (and there was soooo much of it) I orered mine with out the jalepenos and it was just the right spice for me... it had two different kinds of onions and the beans and rice were nummy too. I have never had a burrito that I would eat the meat out of it first instead of the beans, or rice... delicious. Pretty disappointed, was looking forward to trying based on the reviews. I ordered a large carnitas burrito which is what I get at every taqueria and my boyfriend and I always split it. It was a good sized burrito but the lady unfortunately forgot to put in the sour cream,guacamole,cilantro and tomato. She only put in the beans,rice(with corn in it?) and the meat. You won't recognize it from the front [it looks like a little dive market] but if you walk in and go straight to the back, you'll find a little Mexican food stand. It's inexpensive and delicious! Order a taco and it comes with a pile of fresh toppings (cilantro, onions, jalapenos, etc.). I once was REALLY hungry and ordered three tacos and couldn't finish them -- and if you know me, you'll know why that's surprising. I have had the carnitas [which was amazing] and the carne asada -- and the steak is barbecued out front on an open pit grill every few days. You'll get two, loaded with the best tasting spices, sour cream (if you want) and lime. This is authentic. I think we paid $1 for each taco (or maybe it was $2 per taco, either way, it was affordable). Also got our drinks. THIS IS A FAV SPOT for all locals, including the lumber yard fellas, AND the wineries (workers and winemakers!) so be sure to try to avoid this place at lunchtime. We go to yoga a couple blocks from John's Market, and if I'm feeling lazy after yoga, I always say to my husband, "Let's stop at John's Market for supper." He has never turned me down. We love the food from the little deli in the back. The woman who is usually preparing the food is super nice, and she's also given me some great cooking tips on Mexican items for sale in the grocery area of the market. As a Pennsylvania Dutch woman, I am pretty clueless on a lot of it, but she smiles and gives me advice and information. The food is really well prices, and the portions are enormous, enough for supper, and leftovers for a full lunch the next day. My favorite is the carne asada plate. read more
