Nice quaint little market space. The crew who run this place have a good working knowledge of the supplements that they sell. I myself have a Vitamin D and iron deficiency, and John's Natural Foods carries pretty much all the more potent vitamins that I need. John's Natural is nice because they also offer items like quinoa, almonds, and organic whole-grain breads. In addition, they offer healthier alternatives to snack foods and some frozen/pre-made vegan and vegetarian-friendly items as well. This is like a more expensive Trader Joe's without the generic brand products or produce to drive their sales. It's pretty convenient for me as its right in Bayonne and the cost is offset by the fact that I don't have to spend time or money going elsewhere. read more

It is great to have a local natural store. They carry a wide variety of products and a vast amount of gluten free offerings. They have dried nuts and a nice selection of whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, and millet etc. They also have organic produce sometimes. Their prices are what you would normally expect for good natural products. They are moderate to nearly inexpensive compared to other natural products at other stores, especially if you go to their clearance section. I love Johns and am thankful to have them in my area! Rarely see fresh produce here, and it is of limited quantity. This place specializes in vitamins, cosmetics, and any kind of dry food (mostly grain products and dry herbs). There is a large freezer in the back of the store but with so little movement of the stock, I am unwilling to purchase any item. Also in the rear of the store are some bulk grains at higher prices than would be found in New York City's organic food stores. And as some other reviewers have mentioned, the customer service here is hit and miss. read more

Honestly, I treasure this establishment. I discovered this store when I was ill and was told by my doctor I should get a probiotic from a reputable location. The person behind the counter recommended the one she uses and I was not aware that they should remain refrigerated until she told me. I have been a faithful customer ever since. Horribly, horribly rude. Everyone in there except for the younger Asian guy. He's extremely helpful. They are unpleasant, mean, and don't give two thoughts about their customers, at all. This is a reflection on the owner, as he clearly doesn't care who he hires. They yelled at my mom to take her groceries off of the counter, even when no one was in the store. When she went to ring herself up, they put a large sign on the counter top that said "use a basket" like it was a cartoon. After every single bag she filled with loose items, they repeatedly asked her if she was done yet. They are always snippy with me, never respectful, and the entire store is way overpriced. This store is amazing! I can't believe all these years I would run to the city for all my holistic products when all along this jewel was right in my backyard. Forget Hoboken -unless you enjoy paying in the excess for your products or enjoy guessing what natural product to use for your symptoms. Let me start with the wonderful knowledgeable staff. When we entered the store we just looked around, no sales rep breathing down your neck. I was in awe by the volume of herbs they carry and vast types of products. Why buy commercially boxed teas when you can get the natural herb? When I inquired about a product they were extremely helpful and even suggested less expensive options. I was so happy to find this little hidden jewel in Bayonne. The store is not large but they have a nice selection. They even have dried herbs like you expect in asian stores. They even have vegetable caplets and all sorts of carrier oils to make my own creams, etc. They have a small food section. It's very cute and quaint but Im sure that you can find what you need. If not, then perhaps ask for it. By no means is this whole foods BUT you get that personal touch and the ppl are friendly. Have gone in there a few times and have walked out with what I needed. Will definitely shop there again. The only 2 drawbacks are a. since its on a main road the parking situation is a hit or miss and b. I wish they closed at 7 every night. Be wary of this store. They sold me an old product. Unfortunately, I couldn't return it right away because I went away on a business trip. When I went back to the store to return it, the salesperson wouldn't take the product back/give me a refund. It was a $10 conditioner and the salesperson kept insisting that their products are always new. Obviously, not true. Sorry, John's, you guys just lost a customer. From now on, I'm buying this product at Whole Foods instead. Never going back to your store. read more

like any health food store, it's expensive. so know your prices so you'll know whether you can get an item cheaper somewhere else. not all their merchandise moves quickly so always check expiration dates on items, especially refrigerated foods. examine fresh produce. the one thing i will no longer purchase from john's is loose herbs. too often they're old, which means they've been sitting in their jars for a long time. their herbs are kept in clear glass jars with loose tops, on shelves at the front of the store, which gets a lot of light. none of those things are good for herbs. but john's is the only health food store in bayonne, which makes it convenient. it doesn't carry as much as it did in years past, but it has lasted for decades now in bayonne, while many other businesses have had to close their doors. i'm glad it's still here. a word of advice--if you're going to john's late, call to make sure they're open. sometimes they close before the posted closing time. read more
