Always a wonderful treat to go to Al Richards! Their handcrafted chocolates are just divine and indulgent, especially their dipped fruit particularly the dark chocolate pineapple slices! I've never had a piece of their chocolate that I didn't thoroughly enjoy! They make festive chocolates for seasons and holidays and anytime there are leftover decorated chocolates they usually sell them at a steep discount a few days afterward. Service is always friendly and it's a town favorite! Their long history in Bayonne is a true testament to the quality of their chocolates and their commitment to the local community. I remember when they had the other store when the owner first opened up. He had such great pride and you can see the love he put into his work. Even till this day bayonne is lucky to still have such a place to go buy great chocolate I go here all the time especially on the holidays and valentines day. Dont listen to some of the negative comments on here. I cant believe how people try to ruin business on purpose Ive been a chef for over 30 years and ill tell you i only eat and buy food products at a place if they are polite to me clean place and i see proper food handling And i look for a whole lot more trust me So believe me i wont recommend a place that does not meet up to my expectations and safety standards. I absolutely love Al Richards! I have come here for many years, since about 2012 and immediately got hooked on their chocolates!! The flavor is great and they have won many chocolate tasting competitions!! I love their dipped fresh fruit, especially the apples and pineapple. I also really love their non-pareils. Recently I got married and wanted to get party favors that wouldn't go straight in the garbage, like a picture frame and decided to call Al Richards to see if they had any party favors they would be willing to do for the wedding. Fortunately they did! Let me tell you, they were priced well and everybody loved the chocolates. People took two and three boxes instead of just one party favor box because they loved them so much. Also, it was just such a pleasure to work with them (Al/ Richard). They all are so easy and laid-back to work with, but very reliable and professional. They delivered our favors directly to my venue Liberty House and were able to match the colors of my wedding. I highly highly recommend Al Richards Chocolates for your wedding party favors or for any graduation, bridal shower, baby shower party favors! PS: In the picture showing the actual chocolates, don't mind the dent! Get this: Because our guests loved these favors so much, all the favors were gone before we couldn't even try one as bride and groom!! My girl loves chocolate. She kept freaking bugging me the whole time in Jersey over some chocolates lol. Yes Al Richard's is a great place for Everybody to go and see all their delicious treats !! Each Valentine's Day my oldest brother would bring me chocolate covered cherries which was such a great treat. I just love everything about this store and now my daughter loves them too! The customer service is amazing and I've always been impressed with everyone who works there!! I love this place and so does my whole family. I easily spend over a hundred dollars in chocolate every Valentine's Day. I can't drive by the place without stopping in. Just like today, I sneaked in there 10 mins before closing to grab some chocolate covered fruit. I was just stepping out to grab dinner and had to stop for dessert. Even after 5pm, I've seen customers pouring in. It's fruit, that's "healthy" and it's covered in award winning chocolate lol. Not kidding, the chocolate is award winning, the plaques say so, but the chocolate speaks for itself. The smell when you walk in is heaven for a chocolate lover. They have everything you can think of covered in chocolate plus truffles and gift sets for all different holidays. I have tried just about everything and all is good, but the fruit is delicious. A lot of places have strawberries but they also have banana, pineapple, blueberries, raspberries, apples and cinnamon apples. A must try spot!! read more

This place is amazing at Easter when they pull out all of the old-fashioned molds. My absolute favorite is the Scottie dog. It's so great, so 30s!!! I tried to talk my son into ordering Scotties as his wedding favor because I like them so much. Honestly, this is honest-to-goodness, homemade chocolate, made here in Bayonne and it's great. I'm sorry for Al Richards in Bayonne. As much as I want small businesses to strive here I'm not going to support an establishment with bad customer service. Even if they sell the best product in the world (which is not the case here)! Customer service in Al Richards is nonexistent! I'm not complaining about lack of any interaction (greeting, may I help you or just a welcoming smile) with the customers. BTW we were the only customers in the store. When my 5 year old daughter tripped over a low wooden bench that was placed right in front of a display of chocolates (who will notice a bench there!) she badly scratched her knee on a rough wood and cried from pain (luckily she didn't break anything). I apologized to my daughter for ruining her happy chocolaty moment. I explained to her that a bench is probably for the kids to see chocolates on the top shelf. A woman behind the counter didn't make any human noise. Not an apology, not an explanation of a dangerous placement of the benches. So to cheer up my hurt child I offered her to use the bench to see chocolates on top. "Not on the bench!" finally a woman behind the counter woke up. "I thought its for kids to see" I said. "Oh no, it is for Easter baskets but we didn't put them out yet" finally we got an explanation! Seriously? So you leave dangerous items risking to hurt your clients and do not even care to apologize?! I paid for our candy but I'm never going back to Al Richards. After I left them a message about my order, the owner personally returned my call to ask what was the problem. After I explained my problem, he graciously apologized and sent me my order again, plus extra chocolates to match.
