I have had a great experience with this company several times! They helped us move in and out of the dorms and into a house. They will store your stuff (even wash it for you!) and move boxes and small furniture in before your arrival. They saved me so much hassle and angst. read more

Moved two boxes into my dorm room for the beginning of school. The boxes were handled pretty well and I didn't lose anything in the process. They even were able to place my boxes in my room for no additional charge even though I forgot to provide my rooming assignment until a week before. Only thing was that my scale was broken during the trip (unsure if it was them or UPS) and when I tried calling them during move-in days to confirm some details, they never picked up the phone or responded to emails. Price is pretty good for the size dimensions and is definitely cheaper than flying it over in suitcases. Would recommend and use again! read more

If I could give this place negative 5 stars..I would. I had arranged a pre-paid pickup and ship request for 6 packages to be sent from Ann Arbor, MI to Pittsburgh, PA. The request was initiated on July 18th, 2020 and the prepayment amount was between $280-$300.All 6 shipments were supposed to be shipped by UPS and reach Pitt in 2-3 days (as indicated by John). 4 packages were delivered at different days between July 22-July 24, 2020. 2 packages were lost by UPS (based on the tracking number). We discussed this with John & David. They asked me to send the listing of contents (since the shipper has to file the claim). The med student lost a lot of expensive medical equipment and now she has to find alternate ways to fund the replacement of her equipment. My biggest concern is the complete lack of follow up, responsiveness and pathetic customer service from John and David. John's demeanor is abrupt and rude in all forms of communication (phone or email). David seemed ok on the phone (when we spoke to him once). But nowadays, these guys do not return nor respond to voice mails (forget answering calls). UPS has apparently communicated with John's pack & Ship regarding the claim, but I have no communications from them. I continue to send them emails asking for an update. As we all go through these difficult COVID times, we expect some basic empathy for the patrons. We expect more mature and seasoned personnel in a company to address customer issues (I hear this company has been around for some time). Overall, very poor and substandard experience with John's Pack and Ship. I recommend that you save your dollars and pick a reliable packer/Shipper. Next stop, BBB...for both this group and UPS. Not only are the employees helpful and friendly, but the owner went above and beyond to answer my questions and make my college sons multiple moves seamless. They were accommodating and helped make the move easy and affordable. I was really impressed with the level of service I received and I would definitely recommend Johns to others. My daughter was a freshman at the University of Michigan last year and was already home in Massachusetts when the university announced the closing of campus for the second semester due to the pandemic. With limited options as to how to get my daughter's dorm room packed up we reached out to this company as they came recommended by the school. We were extremely dissatisfied with this company. They gave us a quote which was completely misleading. They charged per box, and everything was packed terribly; in fact, many boxes were only half filled, and easily could have been consolidated. One large box had only two pillows and a blanket in it, and barely filled half the box. Their cost to move and store a dorm fridge and small space rug was more than the value of these items. The owner's original emailed quote stated: "The cost for packing the room, including supplies and labor is $500. The cost for storage and delivery is $40/box.  A typical room is ~6 boxes/containers." They ended up billing us $1,200 for this service, which was FAR more than anticipated, and my daughter did not have more items than a typical dorm room. I truly felt taken advantage of and on top of that they were very rude and unaccommodating. Had I known in advance, I would have found an alternative to using this company. read more

My son used them twice, and will never use them again. The first time the driver backed over one of his boxes, which we figured was a fluke and didn't bother reporting. The second time they made a series of exasperating mistakes including having all of my son's boxes delivered to somebody else's apartment instead of putting them in storage! Then John hung up on us when we called to figure out what had happened. Unwinding all the problems was a huge mess since we're out of state. It cost us, and friends helping us in Michigan a lot of time, aggravation, and money. Do not trust this company with anything you care about. Or need. Used them for move in to the dorms and moving out which was very complicated since there were multiple categories of what is stored for next year what was stored for summer program to be delivered to apartment and what was to be shipped home- everything was as it was supposed to be. John's Pack and Ship are incredibly unprofessional and at this point I'm convinced the only reason they still have customers is because there aren't really any other options. Multiple members of their team who I have spoken with are rude and unhelpful, and from supplies, to pickup, to shipping, there has been an error on their part each step of the way. In addition to all of this mismanagement, the surly teenager who arrived *late* to pick up my order began by verbally insulting my daughter's intelligence unprovoked at the pickup. When asked why he was being so hostile, scaring her, he responded that his arm 'got caught in an elevator' earlier that day (???). Unacceptable. In my experience John's has been both disrespectful and ineffective on more than one -- more than three, even -- separate occasions over the course of ONE pack-and-ship transaction. Rated two stars assuming the packages arrive at their final destination, which may even be generous considering they shipped them off to the wrong destination initially. read more

I always find the staff courteous and helpful, whether I am scheduling pick up, storage, or delivery. We reserved a Budget moving truck from this location a week in advance of moving across the country, and got a phone call from the manger two hours before our pick-up time stating that he didn't have the truck. No apology. No offer to help find another moving truck. Just the words, "Having a reservation doesn't guarantee you a truck." Do yourself a favor and use U-Haul on State Street. read more

John's Pack & Ship emptied out my dorm room but left behind a lot of my belongings. I provided a list of what I left there and they said all they got was "some artwork, a mirror, and a box of stuff" (they wouldn't tell me what was in the box). I had to drive there to find out that a lot of my things were missing, and they claimed they didn't see my mattress pad or the rug that covers half the floor. I'm sure they were very busy once classes went online and Umich students moved out of the dorms, but I lost hundreds of dollars worth of belongings because they were not thorough. read more

If I could give this company zero stars I would. We hired them to move and store my daughter's ceramics along with her belongings. Her artwork was an entire semester of fragile ceramics. When the company moved her boxes into her new place, we discovered that they packed everything without bubble-rap or any other soft material to prevent breakage. Every single piece of art broke. John came out and admitted that the company was responsible. He offered us a reimbursement that was far less than the value of the artwork. The entire experience was extremely disappointing. Poor customer service with sharp attitude. They lost an expensive electronic that they collected and packed, failed to get correct the number of packages collected, then lost the item within the 2 weeks we stored it. When it was not delivered, they took almost 2 weeks to get back to us, blamed a new freshman 19 year old for not being an 'adult' and seeing that they got the number of items in the pick up wrong, advised that their reimbursement is $50 BUT they forgot to charge for packing the item they lost, so they are sending me a check for $10. I am extremely disappointed with John's Pack and Ship. Very poor customer service from Day 1. They messed up the pick up and were annoyed when I call confused. After storage of my mattress and bed frame, I scheduled my move in day in which I only received the mattress. After calling multiple times for several days, they notified me that the bed frame was "could not be found". After a couple days, they delivered an incomplete bed frame. Finally after two weeks, when I requested a refund for the full value of the bed frame and a refund for storage and delivery expenses, I was offered $50, a sum not even close to what was required. John was incredibly rude over the phone and the delivery men unorganized. I'm not sure how John continues to use his name in the company name when he himself treats his customers so poorly. I would recommend you use ANY other service offered. Completely dissatisfied. read more

Horrible Experience. They messed up the scheduled morning delivery time for my daughter's boxes on move-in day and when we tried to call, text and email we received no response or communication until I literally had to drive to their place of business several hours later. Owner did not communicate with me until I sent an email two days later complaining how frustrating our experience was mainly due to the lack of communication. When I asked for a rebate or price concession for our troubles he refused. I used this service to store some clothing/other items in my room as I am an out of state student at U of M. When my stuff was delivered to my house this year, many of my items were damaged or broken inside the boxes, which I was willing to look past. However, one of my plastic bins was not delivered. After a lot of back and forth communication, which was rather rude on their end may I add, they delivered my plastic bin to me. I was excited as the stuff inside was important to me, however, seeing the bin I could see they were empty except for some random clothes hangers. I contacted John's Pack and Ship about this and they said they found my bins with nothing in them and these were some hangers that were laying around their warehouse. He said he could give me $50 because of the insurance I had on the bins. He said I should have insured my box for more if the items were valuable and that there were many way more valuable items in the warehouse that were not lost, as if my items did not even matter. The $50 does not even cover a quarter of the items I stuffed in those bins! I thought the whole point of storage companies was to store items... read more

My son used them on two occasions. First time was ok ( although communication was horrible). Decided to hav them pick up and store his 50 inch tv and several boxes of clothing. I insured the tv for 500.00which is what we paid for it. He packed the boxes himself. Two young kids took his stuff and put it in the truck. They obviously were rough with the tv before they brought it back to the warehouse to be packed (which was not cheap). When my son opened it it was broken. They reimbursed me 450.00 which is what they thought it would cost to replace the tv ( fine, but i also paid to have it stored/wrapped). Now the worst part. They stole a bunch of my son's clothing! Jerseys, sweatshirts, and sweaters. Never did I think I had to insure clothing! Emailed them and absolutely no response. BEWARE! read more

John's Pack & Ship has been a godsend for our family while my student attends Univ Mich. They have helped with supplies delivery, an intra-campus one day move, moving out and storage for the summer multiple times, shipping, and delivery of boxes upon return to campus. Most recently they helped with an unplanned very fast move-out due to UM moving classes online and many people unexpectedly moving out March 2020 (due to coronavirus shut down). JPS was swamped with unexpected moving requests and they were amazing with delivering supplies, picking up my student's items, and shipping a box to Calif. Their staff has always been highly professional and efficient including: a John's Mom who helped with a one day campus move, the movers who picked-up and stored boxes on multiple occasions, and all the people who answer the phone and reply to emails, including owners Michelle and John himself. They have a super system in place for sending inventory confirmations and receipts so I always have all the documentation I need. With our family in Calif, and my student in Mich, we are beyond grateful for their services! read more

Average. The people who receive calls are kind and friendly, but they sent some of packages(textbooks) to long-term storage center(or somewhere else). And apparently they do not communicate or do not pass information to the next person working since I had to repeat myself to them every time I called. Therefore I didn't receive my i-clickers and clothes for two days(Out of four, my two packages were sent to wrong places). Looking back, it definitely helped me move out and stay elsewhere more conveniently, but I have to admit I was anxious for two days when my packages were being delayed. If I could give this company a 0 rating I could. Parents of UMich please avoid this company. He charged me $800 to store 10 items (7 boxes a mattress a small desk and a folding chair) for one week. He actually charged $40 to move the folding chair. The worse part of this all is that this company is endorsed by the university. It is hyperlinked right on the main UMich website. It really takes advantage of the out of state students who need the storage option. John was very rude when I called shocked by the bill and basically told me he would gladly throw out whatever I did not want him to store. I can't say enough how bad this company is. I have asked the university to take him off the website as it is misleading. You think you are getting a fair price because he is on the site but in reality he is just taking advantage of you. This company has made the moving in and out process as easy as can be the last two years! Both years I have showed up in Ann Arbor with all of my boxes waiting perfectly in my room. Wow. I used to be a fan, but they lost all of my stuff and the owner was hostile and aggressive on the phone. He even berated my parents when they tried to call him about the stuff. I would not recommend using these people. There have got to be better options in Ann Arbor. read more

Not only did they scratch and dent the refrigerator, everything was delivered 3 days late. We had our original microwave box, but no box for the fridge, so I asked if we should box it. John's employees said they would handle it and I did not need to box it. When I called to let him know what happened all John could do was read the contract. He said it does not NEED to be boxed but the damage is not covered because the contract says it may get damaged if it is not boxed. The contract was received after it was paid for and after we were given advise by his employees. The late delivery was blamed on my son changing his address so many times they could not find him, He is a peer advisor and his room was assigned last spring and it was the same address and room number that was on the receipt. There were many kids in the dorm that did not receive their items on time and many that had damage. John told me I was the only one that called him to complain, but I am sure that is what he tells everyone. He was very condescending and arrogant. I am sure he had answered many phone calls because it began to sound like I was in a courtroom. It's sad that John is a U of M alumni and is taking advantage of these kids. read more
