Food was very good, good portions. Waitress was so/so. She seemed to get annoyed when I asked what was in the Yankee Pot Roast, but she was fine after that including bring drink refills. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert, which we didn't but still she should have asked. I got the Yankee Pot Roast, the carrots and potatoes were soft and well cooked. The meat was a little chewy. Wife had the Cheese Burger she said it was very good and cooked the way she liked. I didn't bring it to their attention but the special was supposed to be $16.95 and she charged us $17.95. I'm not one to argue over small amounts, but if you go check your bill. I would still recommend going here. read more

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast. The diner is southbound 309 just after the intersection on 309 & 663. Clean diner. Good waitress. My wife said her scrambled eggs were on the dry side. My western omelette was ok. Plenty of parking. Coffee was good. Breakfast for two $36 including tip. I remember getting a single breakfast for $6 including coffee. Those days are long gone. I wanted the reopening of 24 hours to work for them. However, it's a major flop . I arrived around 5:45 am . There were two guys sitting in a car outside. They turned out to be the waiter and the cook. They followed me in and the waiter was on his phone and I didn't see him wash his hands. I don't know if I can consider coming back here. read more

Went today for the first time and food was great, service was prompt and courteous. Was open during the blizzard, so we will be returning.

We had a terrible experience today when our waitress decided to give us our drinks and then she went behind the counter and put lipgloss on and flirted with another worker and then ate from the salad bar without even taking our order. We left and won't be back. read more

Don't trust the new owners. They are not from the area and have very poor business ethics. We scheduled to host a 2 hour brunch, on Easter, the day following our son's wedding. We met with Tarek on Jan. 10. Worked out a menu and was offered the room for free. A week before the event we provided the final count. We were then informed, because business was picking up, they wanted to now charge us $400 for the room, which he would now normally charge $800-$1,000. My concern was he would change his mind and hold us ransom on the day with a higher charge. I asked for him to put in writing everything he expects from us and what he would provide so eveyone is on the same page and there's no confusion. He said he spoke to his partner and they are canceling because we are changing the terms (asking for it in writing). He also mentioned that he would make more money that day if he had access to the room. It seems money is his goal not becoming a part of and serving the community. read more

First time here tonight with my wife and our friend. Ordered and half an hour later we hadn't gotten any of our food, place is damn near empty there's 3 tables seated in the entire restaurant. It should not take 30 minutes to get a crock of french onion soup to the table, I finally get my soup there's literally no broth in it but it tastes ok so I eat it. My wife and our friend get their entrees they forgot the mayo on one of the sandwiches that was specifically asked for, my food is nowhere to be seen another 20 minutes go by waiter hasn't stopped by our table once to see how everything is so we flag down a different guy they completely forgot my dish so now it's going on an hour before i get mine. During this time we've had to flag someone down and ask for water when we need it because they are completely inattentive to the tables. They gave us 10% off for my food being forgotten ok fine, you gave the table next to us 50% off their sandwich when you dropped their food but i'll play your game it's whatever I'm already never coming back because the service has been so phenomenally bad. They finally bring our check and we go up to pay we have just enough on our card for what we ordered we left a cash tip on the table guy asks us if we wish to leave a tip on the card I said no we left cash on the table, the guy at the register's entire demeanor shifted and he starts hitting a whole bunch of buttons which sent red flags off in my head immediately he gives me the receipt and asks me to sign it and sure enough the asshole had applied a tip to our check, it wasn't much less than 10 dollars but it was absolutely intentional and when i called him out on it he lost his shit and started trying to get in my face and intimidate my wife. My wife is not someone who gets pushed around and he's probably lucky she didn't deck him. They then refund the tip only to the card because they can't figure out how to reverse this mess since apparently no one has called them out on their shit before and then try to run our card again for the entire meal and told us we were lying when we showed them that they had already gotten the money for the check. Finally the one guy who works there who seems to be the only one with any common sense makes them give us cash for the tip they charged us and at least tried to apologize for the "accident". These guys are absolutely defrauding people, literally the only reason i even double checked the bill was because of how shifty the guy started acting. I think it goes without saying that I will never ever step foot in there again. If you decide too pay cash for everything, do not trust them with your credit card info. read more

i was tired of cooking and thought I would treat myself to some comfort food. Johns diner, what a disgusting mistake. I got meatloaf, soup and salad. The salad bar "baby" carrots tasted of mildew. The soup (chicken and rice) was like thick thick oatmeal porridge. It stood up to form peaks when I lifted the spoon. The meatloaf is the cheapest trash they can buy, Three huge blocks of solid vile trash covered in cups of vile gravy. Nasty foul garbage, these people should hang their head in shame. It's rare when I post a bad review, but I just couldn't let this one go. I went there for lunch yesterday with my husband. I ordered the roast beef club and was really disappointed. There was one slice of roast beef on the sandwich. I took it apart and looked because initially I thought I just got a BLT. I have to say that I've eaten there before and the food is generally good, but I don't like being ripped off. I've had breakfast there with no issues and a few lunches there in the past. I was looking for a slice of strawberry pie for my neighbor. they had a pie in the case but it was turned so I couldn't see the whole pie filling, only the beautiful glazed berries on top. The best part of their menu is their breakfast but my only gripe with them is that I went there at around 2 AM and they told me that they were not serving waffles because the waffle iron was not turned on. Late night food was needed and we ended up at Johns! I had the most amazing scrapple and cheese omelette. Huge chunks of scrapple and supper creamy cheese. The potatoes were well done and super crispy. My friend had a cheese steak quesadilla that was packed with meat. Service was quick and refills were offered. Place was clean and I love a dinner with table side jukeboxes. The only issue I really had was that it was freezing inside. I am never cold, but I was teeth chattering freezing. I love going here. Reminds me of the old diners I used to go to with my parents when I was a child. They even have the little jukeboxes at the tables!!! Nice selection of bakery goods when you walk in. The breakfast selection is great. I always get the pancakes nice and fluffy and huge with eggs and bacon... yum I can't believe all the food you get for under $10! Everyone is friendly, we always get great service even when they are super busy. Plus they have a huge parking lot. I can't see anyone complaining about this place. Check it out! read more

It warms my heart that there are still great diners like John's Plain and Fancy!!! The service was terrific, the food was terrific, and I have nothing but positive things to say. When I asked my server to make my home fries, extra crispy, she offered to have them deep-fried! They were the best home fries I have ever had! Not only was it quite warm in there with a broken hvac system, but the food and service was equally as dismal. The salad bar had wilted, very brown lettuce, cucumbers soft and mushy, carrots moldy. This was an absolutely average diner experience for me. I wasn't wowed by any of their offerings but I wasn't put off either. Their coffee is very average, edible but not tasty. Their home fries are also very average, but at least they're cooked all the way through. Our service was a bit spotty but that's to be expected. I have to point out that they butter their toast in a very odd fashion, pretty much just haphazardly, so that you have to 're-butter' every slice. There was a huge chunk of butter sitting close to the crust's edge of my rye bread. Why put it on at all in that case? Wife and I were looking for a different diner to try out. Driving down 309 there are a few, but we settled on John's Plain and Fancy Diner. We went on a Sunday morning at 10:30, so it was prime time for diners. This is the best time to see how good a diner is. Typically a diner will have their A staff there doing all the work, so you should expect a great meal compared to other times. When we got there the place was packed, which is always a good sign. We were a litlte concerned about wait time from look at the line, but they had it moving really quick-they seem to have a good system going on. We were then seated, so I looekd around and found the restaurant to be very clean. Table wasnt sticky, and the floors looked good. There were plenty of servers hustling around, and they all seemed to be in good spirits considering the rush. One thing I would like to note about the wait staff is that they all wear uniforms. It wasnt just a polo shirt or anything, it was a white shirt, black vest, black skirts for the ladies with black leggings, and black pants for the men. It was a nice change to see them all looking professional-it makes a difference in my opinion. Our food was served pretty quick considering the amount of people. I wish I could say the food was great, but I cant. My wifes sunny side up eggs came out broken which was not a good sign. We both had bacon, and it was overdone. I think a diner should know how to make bacon without overcooking it. I ordered Johns Famous Sourdough French Toast. I found it to be famously mediocre. It was kind of mushy, and bland. Perhaps it was the syrup-dont know, but itwasnt great. It did come with an ice cream scoop size of butter though. I will also note that in sme pieces I could taste fried onions-obviosuly they didnt clean the grill off well enough when they made my french toast. I dont like other foods contaminating my meal-I dont think that is asking too much. Overall experience was good, as was the atmosphere. Food was marginal, but I would be willing to go back and perhaps try something else. Maybe the waffles are better. read more
