Leaving yet another horrendous review is obviously moot, considering nobody in their right mind would pick up the phone & call them anyway based on the feedback online. It's the f'ng insurance companies who contract the service (& aren't reading the online reviews) & they could obviously care less... This is likely why John's Towing & Recovery has been thriving for the last few years (despite nearly 100% 1-star reviews, out of 158 written as of today). As far as my personal experience? They picked up the vehicle on a weekend following a hit & run incident in a parking lot, so they "conveniently towed" it back to their yard to "store until Monday." Well... Gave them until the following Friday (only because the Body Shop called to ask where tf my vehicle was) & found the car was STILL in their possession. I called at the beginning of the week (they answered/provided a generic update). I called again A WEEK LATER checking progress using my # on file. THEY DID NOT ANSWER/went to voicemail. I called immediately afterwards using a unique/Google Voice # & THEY ANSWERED. They then put me on hold for nearly 10 minutes & told me "We aren't authorized to release the vehicle, call your insurance." Me: "My insurance said they called you numerous times & nobody has answered the phone or returned their calls." Them: "Well, we're not authorized to release, so call your insurance & have them take care of this." So yeah... This review will do absolutely nothing but preach to the choir, but figured I'd vent anyway... *** UPDATE *** After NINE DAYS, the Tow Company finally released the vehicle & towed to the body shop. Took the body shop only THREE days to repair back to factory condition, but nearly 2 weeks burnt with the vehicle held hostage in the tow yard (& notifications for over $2k for 2 tows + storage billed to the insurance company). Shame...Shame...Shame... Pro Tip: If your insurance company contracts this company & if feasible/space, have them tow the vehicle TO YOUR HOUSE & DO NOT have them store in their tow yard. I've never heard of a Tow Company that required immediate payment from the insurance company first (& not answer/return phone calls) vs bill to release the vehicle.

Let's start with the facts. I requested roadside assistance from VW as part of the car's warranty and services. This is the company that was dispatched. Right out the gate, they blew past the 1-2 hour window to pick up my car and take it just 5 miles down the road to the dealership and drop it off. 3.5 hours later after the dispatch, the driver shows up in a flatbed. He asks me if the car is drivable, I tell him no. He proceeds to sit in the car, put it in reverse, back up a few feet, pulls forward and parks it, then looks at me like I'm an idiot and that the car is "perfectly fine/drivable." I tell him no it's not and show him the shredded tire and damaged rim. He handed my key back, said he can't help cause it's "drivable" and I have to call insurance. The entire reason for the tow dispatch in the first place was because I can't drive it. You tell me reader, look at the attached photo and decide for yourself if it's drivable. VW apologized for this and immediately dispatched a different company.

Absolutely horrible!!! My insurance company setup a tow for my car to be delivered to the shop so I did not choose this company directly. The driver looked as if he did not know what he was doing and also looked like he didn't even want to be working. I handed him the key to my car and let him know that he couldn't use it to start it because someone attempted to steal it and they had broken up my steering column and ignition. He sat in my car for about 5 mins looking around like he didn't know what he was supposed to do before he asked for a screw driver so he could pop out a plastic piece near my drive shaft to be able to put my car in neutral. It took him literally 3 different attempts to move his truck, hook my car up underneath and use the automatic tow on his truck to start lifting it. I starting hearing scrapping and realized the front of my car bumper was completely being dragged on the concrete and I yelled for him to please stop, he looked at me and said stop why and when I told him that he was dragging my car, he said" f my car" then proceeded to drop it on the ground abruptly removed the hookups under my car and said find someone else. I told him to give me my keys and he yelled that my keys were in my car as he jumped in his truck. Needless to say, my keys are not in my car! Horrible experience after having my car broken into. After reading all of the other reviews on this company, I am surprised and mad that they would even be considered by any other companies as a service! Shame on the owner for allowing this type of service to continue.

Do not let this business take your car after an accident, they will do and tell you anything to take it to a yard in Modesto instead of your home or a shop the reason is that the owner of the towing trucks rents the yard where they take the cars and then he charges crazy money to your insurance for storage$780.00 for 2 days...they are THIEVES the sad part is that they work with most insurances so we as customers don't have a choice, however I did reported them to my insurance so they are aware.

My wife was recently involved in a traffic collision with my newborn baby girl in the vehicle. Luckily our insurance dispatched John towing and they made it there within minutes. Our driver, Jesus was extremely fast and efficient. Luckily everyone is okay and I truly wanted people to see the true side of John towing along with their experienced drivers. Sorry to hear that someone else was treated differently.
