Staff up front was not helpful on when we would be took back. It was 2 hours before we finally got back into a room and all they did was check his eyes when they got checked a week ago. After tha in a separate waiting room waiting another 2 hours to have his eyes measured. Waited 3-1/2 hours for routine eye exam. Dr was very nice. Waited 1/2 more hours in interior waiting room. Went to purchase eyeglasses. I desperately need cataracts removed. After waiting for 4 months for an app't, i was given one at 1:15. I sat and waited until after 3, while everyone who came in after me was taken in. If I had gone in at that point, with the 2 hours required for surgery, it would have been after 5. I had to get transportation on NetTrans, and the wait time for pickup is about one hour. That would make it 6, and it would take at least two hours for me to get home, given the pickups and stops they have to make that time of day. I wouldn't have gotten home till 8 and I also hadn't eaten or drunk anything for over 24 hours. I had to cancel and leave. It was pretty obvious that they didn't give a hang about me or my problems. I'm supposed to go back in Sept. I don't know if that will be any better. In the meantime, my vision gets worse and worse. read more

I think their surgeons are top notch but that is where their professionalism ends. They were not able to fit me into a pair of glasses. Let me explain: I went for an through eye exam and they gave me an RX for glasses. I went to their Optical Department for a pair of glasses. They were not able to fit me correctly after 3 attempts. I went somewhere else and had my eyes checked and they stated the RX that Johnson City Eye Clinic provided was not correct. They fitted me with a pair of glasses without any problems, and the price was a lot less. In Conclusion, I would not hesitate to go back to Johnson City Eye Clinic for surgery but I will never have them check my eyes for a RX. read more

I thought cataract surgery had been perfected years ago but apparently not I have double vision and I-have to live with it or have more surgery. I felt like something shady was going on but can't prove it. the first eye was easy. He numbed my eye and performed the surgery and by the next morning I had great vision. With the second eye he insisted on putting me to sleep and when I woke up I had a lot of pain and the next day I had no vision in that eye. Their were abrasions and bruising. My vision cleared up but I have permanent double vision. DON'T go there. read more

This place should be called Johnson City Awful Eye Clinic. Being from out of town, not at ALL the caliber or standard I would expect. Parking is a nightmare, I finally parked in the covered breeze way and ran in to see where alternate parking might be. I was then told by the person at the desk "that I may have to park at the shopping center and walk up the hill". Are you kidding me?!?!?! Then she proceeded to tell me it wasn't her fault they "try" to service 10 doctors. Well, it's certainly not my problem to figure out. I ask her where she parked, and all the other employees, she said "well we work here". Give me a break, should be thinking of your patients first. JCEC did a wonderful job with my sons needs. Due to a freak accident my son had major eye damage to his left eye. We have been to multiple visits there and been treated with exceptional service each time. Our dr, Dr. Oakley, was very thorough in every exam and treatment. We are especially pleased with our experience. There were never long wait times or issues with billing. Actually, we never waited more than 10 minutes to get called back and once his treatment was finished, they printed off everything I needed for our supplemental company in just a few minutes. I get as if they protected my son's identity as well, asking for my identification each time we visited. Insurance fraud is more common than people think so I was glad they double checked to make sure everything added up. All in all, we will be JCEC patients from here on out. The service and staff are exceptional. I recommend you check them out as well. read more

We will not be returning. My daughter had surgery w/ Dr. Carlsen. Very little interaction with him. 5 total appointments there in the last year and a half and we have always waited a MINIMUM of 2 1/2 hrs to been seen by the doctor and when she seen we see him for 5mins or less. It is unacceptable and extremely rude and unprofessional to keep people waiting that long - especially children. After waiting almost three hours at one visit my husband stated he had to leave, and the staff was extremely rude. We were unable to schedule another appointment for months. Also - prior to surgery, I had to hold my daughter in pre-op until I saw Dr. Carlsen. Anesthesia was trying to take her back, but we felt it was very important to at least speak to the surgeon before surgery. Unreal. If she needs another surgery, we will go to Vanderbilt before we return to this poorly-run clinic. read more

This doctor I had was the best of the others but he does not listen to my issues and when I insist there has been a change he blew me off. The doctors and staff reeks of greed, gossip. You see gossip huddles everywhere. We have tried for 30 yrs to like this group. It is convenient. They act like the patients are an inconvenience . I have had 3 sets of glasses from these people at 2x the cost. I got a better exam and glasses from Walmart. Most of staff making vision decisions are techs. What does that mean? Does it mean pull someone off the street and give them 5 hrs of training on how to do an eye exam and how to deflect patients away from the doctors? I have never had such bad care, but it is so convenient. Never again. read more

As several others have said, this place is ridiculous. After 2-3 appointments there, I am looking for another eye clinic for my elderly mom. That place WAY overbooks and does NOT care that you have to wait for very long periods of time. On the last appointment, I asked them to tell me how long it would take and they assured me it would only be 30-45 minutes. What a joke - it was an hour and a half by the time we left and no one could offer any explanation for the lengthy delays. To make matters worse, Dr. Shahbazi gave her a discount card for the outrageously expensive eye drops he prescribed - and it wasn't until numerous calls later that we were told by Walgreens that the discount card does not apply to those on Medicare - and that the doctor should have known that. read more

This is the best eye hospital I've encountered. You get in fast and everybody is kind and compassionate. Dr. James Battle is a wonderful cataract surgeon. He restored my vision from 20/400 to 20/25. I do now know why all the bad reviews. The staff of the surgery center were so cool! I had the Femto laser and opted for the toric lens. I am so happy to see again! read more

My mother had eye surgery there and for her appointments she waited for 4 hours to see Dr. Carlsen. My daughter has had 2 surgeries there and we went for a recheck and after 3 hours I couldn't wait anymore and had to leave. Dr. Carlsen used to care about the patients. We were there about an hour each time. After my daughter's last surgery, she gets dizziness. We told him and he told us it was not the surgery even though it started right after she was operated on. She is still dizzy after a year. I am looking for another eye doctor but so far I have not been able to find a pediatric eye surgeon that will take our insurance. read more

The glasses part of the clinic is just awful, with one exception-if you can get all your work done by Joy Foster. Then you have that old man, Don, who runs this part. He lies and cheats and doesn't even do a good job while doing so! I had to have my glasses redone 3 times after he did them. He did not measure my optical center correctly once, and two other times he gave me glasses with nicks in them. Then you have the other Joy, not sure of her last name, who has no idea what you mean when you go to get your glasses adjusted and request a certain adjustment. She nicked my glasses right in front of me with the tool they use to remove nose pads and claimed it was already there, saying "I told you there were scratches." A scratch is a fine and thinly indented line from a small material, a nick is deep and sharp, and obviously, was not there prior to my visit. Don lied to protect her, claiming that he has never seen someone use a tool to adjust that type of nose piece. Not only had Joy used that with mine, I asked 2 other girls when he wasn't looking after he said that, and they each confirmed (Without realizing why I was asking) that indeed you are supposed to use that particular tool for that. Then he tried to lie in front of the office manager, which I called him out on quite quickly. The office manager never got back to me. Between Joy and Don lying and an office manager dodging the problems, there's no point in going to the glasses facility here. Glasses are expensive-especially rimless like mine. It has taken nearly 3 years to replace them. I've had to live 3 years with a huge nick in my glasses because a mistake made by one woman who then lied and was lied for and lied for again to cover it up. I've known this place was horrible for a long time, the only reason I went was to try to catch Foster. Should have just left the second I realized she wasn't working that day. Will go to a competent facility from now on. read more
