I don't often write reviews, but when my experience is this good, I need to. This has been my first experience with a compounding pharmacy, and a mail-order one to boot, and I so highly recommend Johnson Compounding. I'm dealing with a variety of health issues, and now, medications, and have spoken with so many people here, from the seasoned pharmacists to front office and every experience has been outstanding. Everyone listens and regardless of how many times I've called, they work to ensure that I know exactly what I'm taking and what I need to consider. I didn't realize they were a family-business until I came to leave this recommendation, and I'm not surprised. I may be many states away, but this is a medically-advanced pharmacy that feels like a local store. Some of what I'm dealing with is difficult to gauge, but between my doctor and this pharmacy, I know I'm well-taken care of. I know why she recommended that I get my medication here. read more

Bone on bone arthritis and bursitis - Relief from Dr. Gary Kracoff !!! Gary Kracoff's expertise and common sense advise helped me reverse the pain and swelling in all my joints, but most profound was the relief I got in my knees. I also had bursitis in both elbows, a rare occurrence. Gary explained eating sugar and white carbs was like pouring gas on a fire, increasing the inflammation everywhere. So I stopped, and my pain and swelling went down by 80% in less than a week. Gary has helped me with various issues over the years, this was the most amazing recovery ever. He is smart, and very nice. He does not try to sell you anything. He truly wants to help you feel better and heal. He finds ways to support your bodies own healing process. I have to go to this place because aside from Mass Eye and Ear, they are the only ones that make custom serum tears. They have the worst service/setup for the process. It entails having your blood drawn then they make custom tears/ eye drops from your own blood. This is used for chronic dry eye syndrome. The blood draw is done in a conference room with a constant stream of random people walking in and out. The phlebotomist keeps having to adjust the cheap tri-fold "privacy" screens so they don't fall down. The phlebotomy chair only has a left handed arm rest (apparently, my right arm has the choice veins). They don't have pediatric needles (ultra thin ones that hurt less), or kid friendly bandaides. So I am bit goofy about that. The bottles they use to put the very expensive custom eye drops are too small and extremely stiff. Thus making it very difficult to squeeze and get every last drop. At almost $20/bottle for less than .25 of an ounce, you want to get every drop. I go through 2-3 bottles/ wk. Everyone complains about it; but they wont change them. I have complained to everyone that would listen. Today I spoke directly to the owner. But he doesn't want to hear any suggestions. He kept interrupting me to explain why everything had to be the way it is. He then suggested I purchase a bottle squeezer, just like the staff does every time I mention the situation with the bottles. They should give them away with purchase; put their logo on it and it's also cheap marketing. It also shows that you might care about your customers concerns and complaints. I asked if they could have kid friendly band-aides with smiley faces or cartoons etc. for the phlebotomist to put on your arm after blood draws. He pointed to a box of $8 bandaides on the shelf that he recommended I buy? This guy is totally clueless as are the women running the registers. They are pleasant but lack common sense, basic customer service skills, and are always fumbling around dazed and confused. The store is nice and they have a good selection of over priced homeopathic stuff. But they are inadequately set up for this type of service and inflexible about how they could make it better. They claim to be small local shop that is able to handle product and services like a larger business and provide personal customer service. NOT!!!!!! I can tell you, based on my experience each I time I go there and feedback from the staff at my eye doctor's office, they can't do either well. So if you just want to buy over priced homeopathic stuff you don't need at out of the way place that offers poor customer service, Johnson Compounding is the place to go. They are so ill equipped for drawing your blood, producing user friendly custom serum tears, and providing decent customer service. I like my eye doctor, but I will have to find another that can write scrips at Mass Eye and Ear. Johnson Compounding is ridiculous and too far out of way to go for such poor and over priced service. read more

I found them online when looking for a medical food product for my father whose health is failing. I like to support small business and they are only 2 states over so I figured I should get the product quickly. 4 days after I order (at 5pm by the way) I got an email that the product I ordered was out of stock and wouldn't be in until next week. If you want to compete as a small business you need to give stellar customer service. They should have messaged me the next day to let me know that they could not provide me with he product. My doctor sends my prescriptions here instead of cvs because I need it diluted since I have a sensitive system to medication reactions.. The process is easy you just have to be patient for them to make the dose. Plus they ship it or you can pick it up if you're in a rush. I only had to pick it up once as I lost track of my dose and was close to running out. Haven't experienced any issues in person with customer service. Everyone was polite. Just wish my insurance would cover it. But that's not Johnson's fault just my insurance. It's very expensive without insurance especially since I need two orders a month. read more

Did you ever review a place and want to give it 4 or 5 stars, but have some seemingly minor hang-up completely kibosh the whole thing? Well, for me, Johnson Drug is that review. In May my wife and I had our first child. K needed some prescriptions filled and we needed a few things to help take care of our baby who was in the NICU at the time. At the time, I was in Pharmacy nirvana. They quickly filled my prescriptions and they had all the mother and baby gear we needed. To make things easy, I even brought in insurance contact information and details on coverage for medical devices. When I picked everything up I was a little disconcerted to have a $200 invoice, but as I had brought in REAMS of paperwork I figured it was just my deductible. Fast forward...turns out they overcharged me. This wouldn't be a big deal, but everything was paid for with Flex spending and getting the credit back was a nightmare. The mess all began with a careless mistake and hang-ups with the credit were compounded by additional mistakes. All in all, we have spent a vast amount of time trying to clear all this up. Johnson seemed like it might have been a great place for friendly staff, quick pharmacy services, and a enormous selection of alternative health care items, but their attention to detail, and I would have to deduce, their ability to listen to their customers is abysmal. I'm not sure I'm willing to give them another shot. read more

This medium sized Pharmacy and wellness center is in the center of Waltham, right on main street (rt. 20). The location is really ideal for someone who travels 20 every day to get to and from 128/pike. They even have a private lot around the store so you can park your car with confidence, unlike the street parking in Waltham. You enter the store, and everything is immaculate. All the shelves were stocked, clean, and tidy. I have been to a lot of compounding pharmacies to get special medications, and none have really felt this inviting. I felt like everything was sterile, but the friendly staff gave it a homey feeling. After only 30-45 seconds of looking around, a Pharmacist asked me if I needed help. Since when do you get customer service from a Pharmacist these days!? So often do you get somebody who is just working there to work there, much less someone who actually fills my medications. Nonetheless Dr. Walczyk was ready to help with my questions. He even asked about me about my other medications I was taking to make sure there were no side effects I would be aware of. I mentioned a specific drug I was on and he referred me to a Dr. Allibhai who apparently knew more about those types of medications than John. Yes, they like to go by first names there! John and Omar. You can even see the team compounding medications in what looked like a sterile room. Always a good feeling when you can see your medication being made in front of you! Had a Minor Possible Problem, But They Remedied It Extremely Well I had an Rx for Low Dose Naltrexone. They had changed one of the fillers to a calcium based filler. Which I did not want. And so initially, I was unhappy about this. However, the response from Steve Bernardi was the most professional, respectful response I have ever received from a healthcare professional. I have had problems with the medical system before (medical errors, misdiagnoses), and the response of the healthcare professionals has always been a "blame the victim" mentality. Not with Steve. He was right on the issue, fixed it right away, and had new meds for me the very next day. I was extremely happy with his professionalism and respect. In talking with Steve since then, there appears to be disagreement among the LDN experts (e.g. doctors, LDN non-profits, etc) as to what the best and worst fillers are for LDN. So I cant even blame this pharmacy for this. They may not, in good faith, even view this as a mistake. My unhappiness was more based on the change that was done, not to my knowledge. Regarding whether Calcium should be used in the first place, my opinion differs, based on what I've been told by other experts. But I may be wrong on that. Things may not be initially as black-and-white as I thought they were, given that the national LDN experts cant even agree on this. So for now, I will avoid calcium fillers and do more research. I use Avicel as a filler only. In any event, overall, I have been a loyal customer of Johnson for many years, and will continue to do so. They have filled other meds for me hundreds of times, with never a problem. One of my meds required blood tests every week to monitor its level, and those tests always confirmed that Johnson had filled it perfectly. So I view this as a one-time mistake that happened, that was handled extremely well. I guess it's just a matter of, whichever compounding pharmacy one uses, always make clear, in writing (and your doctor should be doing this anyway), what fillers to use or not use, and monitor this as time goes on to make sure it's being adhered to. Because the rate of well-done Rx's with Johnson has been so near-perfection over the years, I will give them 4 stars here. I think that is a reasonable compromise rating. I will continue to get my compounded Rx's filled here. read more

Had a medication that was called in on a Monday morning and requested to be urgently filled. We filled it there rather than checking with three other local options because they said they could do it in 2 business days. They didn't call to authorize the medication until Wednesday morning, i.e. 2 business days later, and then said it would be filled in 3-4 business days, which would be Friday or Monday at the latest. It is now Monday and they are saying tomorrow, which is 7 business days. Meanwhile, we have had to spend $75 every two days for the doctor to administer the medicine so we're looking at an extra $300 because Johnson cannot fill orders in the time frame they promise. Will never fill a prescription there again and do not recommend. read more

They made two of my medications look exactly the same. I use a weekly pill box and I'm on too many meds to just take them out of the bottle. They refused to do a remake to even just add some food dye, citing essentially user error, and said to remake it would triple the price of the rx. I had to hound them to even transfer the prescription to another pharmacy that could make my medication safe for me. read more

Just had to transfer a compound prescription here because my pharmacy closed. They were great contacting me and taking a minute to discuss the transfer and medication. Very friendly and customer-service oriented. And the price for the compound script was very reasonable too, less than what I'd been paying and driving to NH for! read more

This place is an overpriced joke. First, I was ignored when I was roaming around the store looking for an items I found online. When I went to the counter I was yelled at by the sale staff when I asked for what I came in for. I looked around the store and found some items were almost double of what I see at Whole Foods. Tom's mouthwash was $7.99, Traditional Medicines Tea was $6.99 ($4.59 at Whole Foods). I later spoke to a friend who was talked into over $300 of items that produced no results. I will not be going back, which is too bad really wanted to find a holistic health facility. read more

We are lucky to have a place like this in the area-- the selection of products is great for a small store, and I don't have to worry about quality, as I sometimes do when ordering on Amazon. My son had a terrible case of water warts (Molluscum Contagiosum). I sent Dr. Kracoff pictures and he was able to recommend a homeopathic treatment. (Not having to make the long drive out there was so helpful.) AND IT WORKED. Our pediatrician was telling me that all I could do was wait it out and my poor son had had them for over a year. They were getting really bad. They were all over his body, and he was scratching them and creating sores. I did not know what to do. Thankfully, a pharmacist at my local drugstore recommended Dr. Kracoff. I'm really amazed and now turn to him for lots of other advice. I was forced to use this pharmacy because of the medication I needed. It was a compounded medication only good for 1 week for fertility treatment. The pharmacists assured me that they would contact me before sending the medication in the mail but they did not. I paid out of pocket for it and couldn't use it because of timing of other fertility medications. They were rude on the phone. It's bad enough when insurance doesn't approve / cover medication but when the pharmacy just doesn't care or listen to consumer who is paying. This place is HORRIBLE and lacks customer service skills. Worst experience ever with them. read more
