Sophia Pitts is by FAR the most thorough salesperson I've worked with when purchasing a car, and this review is for HER. I purchased a new 2026 RX350h yesterday after comparing a preowned version and a new vehicle. They were exactly alike in every way - except the preowned was 2 years old, had 10k miles and needed to be detailed. The total price difference was $5,500, and the warranty on the preowned seemed substantially better. Sophia could sell me either one, and carefully gave me pros and cons on each vehicle. The preowned manager came out to talk with me after I offered less for the preowned than asking price. He obviously wanted me to buy preowned, but I was leaning toward new - despite the better warranty and lower price of the used car that was identical to the new. He was nice, but hard core wanted me to purchase the used one. I went to lunch while they detailed the used car. Upon return, Sophia gently pointed out items that became obvious to her after the car was cleaned up that I would have recognized over time, but were not apparent to my untrained eye: the car had multiple "dents" from a likely hailstorm. There was evidence on the tailgate of sanding and repainting, and overspray on the chrome trim. The vehicle, despite a clean Carfax report, had either been wrecked, or at least damaged enough that it had required substantial body work. I am massively thankful to Sophia. She is incredibly well studied and recognizes things I never would have. I would've paid over $50k for a substantially damaged used car if not for her. Flange makes a comeback, what happened... Johnson Lexus Durham service used to extremely reliable (barring one past episode 5 years ago)- I actually took my car for 10 years to the same service specialist. However, my recent experience has me rethinking... They incorrectly failed my 2015 Lexus on the state inspection - tire tread was 2.3 as reported by them, while low from a safety standpoint, it is not a failure by state inspection (which is at less than 2), they required replacing four tires at $1340. Which is $445 above Costco charges. Secondly the rear 12v lighter wasn't working, it was a fuse that is easily accessible they put in a charge for $120 and had told me some sort of fusible link - I didn't know what that meant initially I approved it and upon further research and their own invoice said it was a fuse. Those fuses are cheap and easily accessible and shouldn't require 1 hour of labor. Old Lexus used to do this sort of service complementary sometimes. There were multiple errors that seemed to be designed to give them more money, and I am wondering if service management has changed that pushes for more revenue and profitability margin than serving the customer. While they corrected both of these errors and reversed $120 charge and redid inspection and passed without tires having to be changed. I hope they improve and not continue this path - this is path that Honda Durham was on and I moved on from that brand. I was planning on purchasing an RX-350 due to comfort and ease of servicing with Lexus as well as the vehicles, but has me rethinking if I should go all electric with Rivian R2 instead in the future. Oh, BTW, what is that flange you ask, that was just non-existing fusible links in modern cars - its joke for that have seen old Seinfeld episode :-) read more

7/5/24: Came back here today with my fiancé to meet with Stevie, the AWESOME technology representative. :) When you purchased a car, did they offer instruction on how to use every feature of your new vehicle in detail? I sure didn't, and I have been an Acura girl for years. I have NEVER EVER received the kind of customer service and assistance from any Acura dealership that my fiancé is receiving from this dealership. They are patient and kind. They make you feel valued. That's the way it should be EVERYWHERE, but it clearly isn't. It is over 100 degrees today, and Stevie was outside with us at 12 pm showing us all the bells and whistles. I have owned 2 other Lexuses that I bought in Boston where I used to live and everything was excellent. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience purchasing a used Lexus from Johnson. First there was no user guide or service maintenance guide with the car. I called to complain and the salesperson told me I didn't need it because I could use the app. I'm 78 and have difficulty reading small text on my phone. Eventually she ordered an OEM guide, but no service manual. The OEM guide hasn't arrived so I have no idea if it is equivalent to the Lexus guide. I've never heard of buying a car that didn't have both. When I was looking at the car, the salesperson told me it was from Canada. It really didn't seem to matter and I was told that the extended warranty would begin when the regular warranty was done. Little did I know that Lexus of America will not honor the warranty on Canadian cars I purchased the extended warranty and now know if I hadn't done that, I would have had NO warranty on a 2 year-old car that is usually covered by the remainder of a 4 year warranty. Next, the Lexus extended warranty has 2 prices one is for used cars that are less than 4 years old and have less than 24,000 miles and the higher price for cars that do not meet these criteria. I was charged the higher price. I don't know if the salespeople and managers understood the issues for a Canadian car that was 2 years old with 8,000 miles. After 4 hours of repeatedly explaining these issues, they refunded me $1,500 which is the price difference between the two warranties. Deceptive, shady with borderline fraudulent and illegal practices. By far the worst car buying experience I have ever had. I came in to see a specialty vehicle 2014 Nissan GT-R this past Friday listed in "WELL MAINTAINED" condition.I started the day by verifying the car's availability.I would meet with Tyre Dancy on going over the car. I showed up on time to pleasantly see the car waiting in the showroom.After inspecting everything that I could see of the vehicle cosmetics were clean.The car APPEARED to be mint.I asked Tyre if it was modified at all and his words were,aside from the front bumper and part of the exhaust the car was unmodified. Now we get to what they were asking.The KBB value on their OWN SITE clearly states that the Market Value on the HIGH is $82,000.They marked it at $87,000.After offering a fair 12k for my trade.I offered to purchase it at the $82,000.Tyre kept telling me that the car would "appreciate in value" which I can tell you after monitoring the pricing for YEARS that is not the case.Tyre called SM Corey who had a similar shtick of "We price based on condition.And this is well maintained/untouched condition".Corey stated that they wanted the $87,000 and could "knock off a thousand but not thousands".I planned to walk and I completely respect if we couldnt work out a deal. Then the General Manager Mustafa stopped me before I should have left.Not sure if this was part of their charade.He reviewed the information I discussed with Corey and offered to check if the bank would work out a financing rate to get the car at around the $85K mark.The rate was offered to me at an abhorrent 9.7% APR and I have the literal highest credit.Despite this, I thought of the condition of the car and planned to refinance and pay it off early anyway.I agreed to the deal AFTER getting a clean prepurchase inspection(PPI) of the car. I set an appointment to drive the GT-R to Nissan in 2hrs and have a certified GT-R tech inspect the vehicle.Mustafa warned me that I would need to sign a contract responsible for any damages and the temp plate form.The deal was done IF the inspection came back clean.IF being the key word here, because in no way was I going to sign anything else without it. Noticing some grinding in the brakes.I drove it to Nissan.The cost of the PPI from the GT-R technician would cost $869.Willing to pay to get this deal done.I patiently waited to hear back from the tech and received a video inspection of the GT-R from the tech.While reviewing the video, 2 major red flags stood out to me that I would confirm with the tech.One, he mentioned that the two secondary Catalytic Converters were REMOVED.Not replaced,REMOVED.Apparently, the car had some modified ECM and Exhaust work done,so now my suspicions are starting to fire.So much for "Untouched". I asked the Certified Nissan GT-R tech how the cat could be removed and his response was "Its illegal for it to pass inspection in this state.I dont know how they were able to list this for sale."He mentioned that the car would fail state inspection if that modification was noticed.In addition to this, all 4 of the rotors have NEVER been replaced after 42k miles with aftermarket brakes.So much for "Well maintained." They quoted $8200 to replace the Cat and $5500 for the rotors. I drove back to Lexus in shock that they were trying to sell me a marked up car that had core mechanical issues.When I brought this to Mustafa they were aggressive in assuring that their inspectors "follow the law".Trying to downplay what a LITERAL GT-R TECH pointed out.They refused any concessions with me and disrespected my glaring concerns for how unsafe it would be to drive a sports vehicle with shot rotors and modified emissions.I asked Mustafa if he thought it was safe to drive any vehicle with rotors like that and he said "Yep." I said "If that is what you think." And I left. Out $869, 7 hours of my time and no car.Later discovering that they ran multiple hard credit pulls without my permission.I never signed any financial documents.I plan to contact the FTC on this matter. read more

While the car salesmen may be exceptional the service department is not entirely remarkable. I purchased a CPO 24 Rx that was said to be "better than new" because of the warranty. Shortly after getting home with the car I began to hear a noise. I informed the service department and even have a ton of videos documenting this. There were several attempts to resolve this issue and the last time I had communication with the managers (Max, Allen and Terry). After the car was returned to me I emailed them again to let them know the problem was not resolved and included videos (this was on 5/7). After 12 days and no response I emailed the executive manager of the dealership that was listed on the website on May 19. I followed up with a call on May 21 and left a message for Max stating the issue was ongoing and also there was now an issue with the trunk. To date there has been no communication from the dealership except a call on 6/23 from a salesman wanting to be the point of contact for future purchases. I was sold a car and even purchased an extended warranty, none of which have met my expectations and would not buy a car from this dealer again. At this point I have little confidence in the service department or the warranty. Although they said the problem "isn't mechanical" how do we not know whether this unidentified problem will be mechanical in the future or impact the longevity of the vehicle. It is unacceptable for customer complaints to be ignored and particularly unfathomable for the managers to ignore these concerns. I would expect subpar service from an unscrupulous dealer but not the Lexus dealership. My experience with Lexus has definitely not been Amazing, it has been more like regretful. read more

Bought a UX here yesterday and overall my experience was very pleasant, largely due to Timothy Carnes. He was wonderful to work with. Simon Lunt was also very helpful and pleasant without being too pushy on the warranties. However, my only "complaint" is that things were confirmed over the phone that were not honored when I purchased the vehicle. I confirmed a few days before over the phone that there was no max down payment (I did not want to go through the hassle of securing a cashiers check for my large down payment, only to have to deposit again). That is exactly what happened. I did tell Simon who gave me this confirmation, but I got "well he's not in office that day so couldn't have been him" and "I can ask him right now" sort of thing. Of course at that point there was not reason to go back and forth. I do not fault finance for this. However, was just a bit weird/confusing. Also, Lexus offers a college graduate discount. I took the time to read the fine print regarding acceptable forms of documentation (pic attached). So I brought my diploma in. However, when talking to salesperson, I was informed I had to create an I.D Me account. So I had to take the time to create one of these on the spot at the dealership- when according to Lexus policy, I came prepared. Speaking with Timothy, I understand why the account is needed. However if this is the policy moving forward, Lexus needs to take an action to update their web information as is it misleading. Again not a HUGE deal, just a "sigh" moment. We had a great experience at Johnson Lexus of Durham. Simply put, we had a relaxed and enjoyable visit with a pleasant and friendly sales consultant, Carl Morrishow. Carl joined the team at Johnson Lexus of Durham about a year ago. He happened to be the first person to greet my wife and me when we arrived. I already had my mind set on test-driving an ES 300h (hybrid). Carl accompanied us on a test drive and answered all the questions that we (mostly I) had. The test drive and Carl's support confirmed the ES 300h will be my next car. I'm not in a rush to buy it. I'm attached to my current car. However, getting a new car for myself is relatively imminent, I think. I test-drove a 2021 ES 300h in Atomic Silver and, practically speaking, loved it. I couldn't find anything wrong with it except for the color. Color-wise, I prefer Iridium or Cloudburst Gray. The car I test-drove had the Ultra Luxury (top of the line) package which is what I want. The things I liked best about the car were the super quiet, smooth, cushy, and comfortable ride, the plethora of safety features, and all the "bells and whistles" such as the 12.3-inch multimedia display and the 10.2-inch Head-Up Display (HUD). Carl put my contact info into Johnson Lexus of Durham's system so I can be notified when they know about when 2022 ES 300h vehicles will be coming in. Carl told us this year was unlike any other, presumably because of production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It's my understanding that things have been more unpredictable for the dealership in terms of when and what kind of inventory they'll receive. For example, they already have 2022-model-year vehicles in-stock for certain models, but not the ES 300h yet. Carl guessed they might start receiving their first ES 300h vehicles in November. Even then, the ones they receive might not have everything I want. I might have to special-order one to get all the features I want. The wait time for a special order is months, which I'm OK with. The 2022 ES 300h will bring the multimedia display closer and the display will be a touchscreen (the 2021 ES 300h display is not a touchscreen). I like and prefer that. Heck, I might just wait until the 2023 ES 300h, but we'll see. At some point, I need to let go of my current car, a Volkswagen Passat that still runs and looks great and that I love very, very much. We visited Johnson Lexus of Durham on a Saturday around 2:00pm and were done with everything - test drive, sit-down with Carl, quick look at other cars, quick tour of the maintenance section of the building - by 3:30pm. The dealership was quiet during our visit, which we liked. This was in contrast to my visit to Nalley Lexus Smyrna (Atlanta, Georgia), where I test-drove an ES 350. I had a significantly better experience here at Johnson Lexus of Durham. Carl was a big reason for that. He wasn't pushy. He was chill, laid-back, straightforward, and honest. I received a notice from Lexus stating there was a service campaign for a software upgrade. I called and they knew about the service campaign and scheduled me pretty quick. My appointment was for 8AM. They did the upgrade and complimentary car wash by 10AM. Although I have to say that no car dealership actually has appointments. From my first contact with the salesman, to a follow-up a day after I had driven home, the dealership was first class! First off, a huge shout out to Mike Allen (sales), Ivy Calix (customer satisfaction), and Steven Vega (finance - YES! I am giving a shoutout to the "F&I Guy")! This small team of individuals made me feel as if I were the #1 customer at the dealership. Being a "long distance" purchase, Mike spent a lot of time with me via email, text, and on the phone to be certain that all of my questions were answered. Mike made sure that I was 100% comfortable, and I know for certain that he was taking my calls during his off hours. I offered to reach out at a different time, but Mike was insistent that my questions be answered. Mike was fully transparent and made sure that I would not be disappointed when I arrived to pick up the car - mission accomplished!! The car pictures wasn't posted online as yet, but Corey took the initiative and sent me pictures inside the car interior as I am picky with the interior color. The paperwork went smoothly and fast, and Corey went the extra mile and placed a big red bow on top of the car in order for me to take pictures. I hate that I have to keep bringing my car here for its service. The service department sucks. No communication. I watch as other people come after me and get acknowledged before me. Almost each time I have to go ask for assistance. And twice they tried to give me the wrong car and even questioned me if I was sure it wasn't my car like I'm stupid and don't know my own vehicle. A word of warning if you plan on purchasing a vehicle here ...a verbal or even a written guarantee on a trade-in value may not be honored. I say this because that is exactly what happened to me two weeks ago. I do not fault the salesman as I believe he acted in good faith but his sales manager ( Mostafa Abou-Auf) refused to honor my written offer from CarMax. The salesman told me (in writing) that they would honor a written offer from CarMax but not one from Carvanna. In a side note, the CarMax offer was the same one I received from the local Mercedes dealer. I expect dealers to always try and get the upper hand but I have NEVER had one go back on a written guarantee before. Because I believed that the price I was given would be honored, I made the mistake of letting them show my wife her new car for her 70th birthday. She sat in it and was so very happy. That emotion of joy was soon be turned to distress once Mr. Mostafa Abou-Auf decided that greed and avarice took precedence over conducting an honest business deal. You know, I don't know if there is actually someone named Johnson who owns the dealership or if it's simply the name on the business. What I do know is that if there are people operating with my name and reputation on the line, I would be upset if they were not being honest with their (my) customers. I don't know why Mr. Mostafa Abou-Auf acted in this manner. I had already agreed to pay their $799 doc fee and an additional $499 for nitrogen in the tires and some kind of "protective coating" for the paint. Even though the car had been ordered and just got to the lot shortly before purchase, I saw many positive reviews on this dealership and it was bittersweet to read them. I was happy that so many people had a positive outcome yet I was sad that the positive experience my wife and I could have had was sacrificed for additional dealer profit. I won't even go into the missing items on the vehicle I had to return to get. Or the less than satisfactory experience I had with their "Technology Expert". All I have to say is that thank goodness for YOUTUBE so I can learn how to program Homelink to open my garage door as well as discovering how to manage other settings on the vehicle. The only totally positive experience I had at the dealership was with Simon, the F&I guy. That in itself is significant. How many times is that the most pleasant thing that customers go through? The vehicle itself is very nice and my wife enjoys it. I don't regret buying the car, only where I purchased it. My only hope is that I make other buyers aware of the situation. If I can spare just one person from the humiliation the dealership put my wife and I through, then all of this writing I've been doing is worth it. On reflection, my attitude toward the whole situation may be partially my own fault. That's because I bought into the hype that buying a Lexus was "special". That it was above the games and cons played by the typical car dealer. That because their employees wore ties and suits they were above the stereotypical car dealer. This dealership is absolutely terrible and unorganized went up there to by a car we had been looking at for a while. We talked to Sabin such a wonderful man and helped us the whole time but there was a situation with another lady who had left a voicemail about the car. She told us that someone was looking at the car but WAS NOT finalized, so we went up there with cold stone cash ready to buy the car as we were told its FIRST COME FIRST SERVE took it on a test drive and all came back to do papers and the lady comes out with a attitude and says they can not sell us the car because she has a check is on the way but keep in mind nothing has been finalized by the bank as well. I'm no genius but if it is not finalized then that means it's still not sold.... The manager comes out and backs her up telling us multiple different things that don't even align with what she told us. The young lady is very unprofessional her attitude, approach and tone of voice was just very nasty. We sat there for 3 hours instead of trying to sort out the situation they tried to sell us another model of the vehicle but $10,000 more! She did not even bother asking if they could take it off the lot for sale or even say it was sold online which really threw us for a loop at the end as we were getting ready to leave we talked to one of the finance managers helping and even he was just confused as we were, because once again if you have no money down etc then there is no sale period!!. Ms. Ivette is the young lady, I mean no harm but if you are deciding to buy a from here i recommend not going to her maybe Sabin he is very understanding and willing to work with you to get you in the right car or another great salesman her attitude was just very unprofessional. moral of the story i should have been leaving with the car but instead left with headache! read more

I have to give these people the nod. They advertise no badgers, and that is correct. We were greeted in a timely manner. The salesperson did not jump on us nor were a bunch of salesman standing by the door waiting for customers to come in. He listened to what we were interested in and commented on our choice. He also gave us a tour of the dealership. OK, You think you've seen them all. Not true with Johnson Lexus. I was amazed on how clean the light color tile was in the service dept. When you go in the service dept where the mechanics work on cars, you always see a mess, oil, gas or whatever on the floor. Horrible smells Iike rotten eggs or worse. Not here at Johnson Lexus. You could eat off the floors, they looked that clean. In fact the dealership was super clean. They cater to their clients. A very nice customer area while you are waiting for you car to be serviced. They serve Starbucks Coffee, Cookies, and a host of other beverages. They have Business Rooms in case you have that conference call, or just need to work on spread sheets. Wifi throughout the complex. They even have a quiet room so you can meditate or whatever. They also offer loaner cars while you vehicle is being services here. They have 50 loaners available. If you have service work done on your car here, before they give it back to you, they wash and vac your vehicle at no charge. Excellent customer care here. You would have to buy a RR to come up to the care Johnson Lexus gives you. I am very impressed. read more

I just had my first service here, and found it to be unlike any experience I've had getting my oil changed. Each person has their own service rep, so I was able to schedule the appt via text through Jenn. When I pulled up, two people were waiting for me at drop off. Jenn came to talk to me before they started service and made suggestions, but ultimately, it was up to me what I had done. The waiting area was great in that you have four places to choose from - a quiet reading room, a room with a TV, an area outside of those, or they offer 6 separate offices. They also have coffee, tea, and a soft drink machine and a variety of snacks. Of course, if you don't want to wait you can use a loaner car or take advantage of their shuttle service. This place may be #1 for Sales, but for Service it's seriously lacking. -High Cost -Poor communication -Poor service -Long wait I was told 2 hours and there would be a shuttle service to the mall to pass the time. Apparently, there is no shuttle on the weekends, and it took 4 hours to get my car!! Then, I found some discarded paperwork that showed that one wheel was aligned prior to alignment service, but after, it was not. The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Salesman, Jae Kim, not knowledgeable about the type of car he was trying to sell. Unprofessional. Not knowledgeable about the sales process. Arrogant about the dealership selling between 200-250 cars a month, missing the question asked and being second with pricing vehicles well. Rushing a transaction will ill-knowledge. AND GUESS WHAT ... I am still waiting on car delivery from Thursday of last week. Don't let anyone assign you a sales person. Walk in and choose yours. Should not have gone against my spirit of discernment when I received the first sales call. Hearing and not listening. He played sales games and I'm hip to that. Classic - the car may not be here next week because I did not want to be rushed in signing papers with fast talking nonsense. I can read, comprehend, and add mister. Next time I'll stick with my first thought. Trying to get me to put a social in a credit app system when we already had financing. Absolutlely not good and no where near the level of service we received in the past. We had terrible communication from initial service person. Candace (the only person who tried to help) tried to step in. In the end, we ended up getting back a car that still had safety issue (not disclosed to us, only marked on a back sheet), that was not communicated or quoted for service. After not having the car for the day, we had to schedule the additional service two days later. And the people hired out front to triage and grab cars are so completely unprofessional, it should be an embarrassment to this dealership. Will not be returning for service until they get their act together or to buy a new vehicle. read more

My girlfriend took her car in to these people and spent thousand of dollars for a whole host of repairs including a new timing belt, oil leak repairs , and a multitude of other repairs that they claimed needed to be done. After three additional trips back into their service department for the oil leak that was still taking place, they came back and said that the oil pump was leaking and needed to be replaced at the low low price of $4,036.33. After listening to all the lies and BS from the general Manager, and service manager, we've had to walk away from this dealership. Fortunately we were able to find a fair and most of all, honest local garage with a knowledgeable mechanic that replaced the seal and stopped the leak. Rip off alert. Dont ever take your car to this place for service. read more

The facilities are always sparkling clean and I enjoy the several open areas and lounges they have available to wait and be able to properly social distance ourselves from others. Total bummer that they aren't offering snacks or beverages due to COVID, but better safe than sorry. Every time I come in for a service, they're always minor by the way, I know I'm in for at least a 2 hour wait. I always see folks coming in after, but leaving before me, even though I'm usually here for an oil change or engine check. If they didn't have lounges with comfy couches, I'd probably be more upset about it, but the customer service is great and the facilities are nice so I can't complain too much. read more

I recently contacted Johnson Lexus of Durham after learning that a lien had been placed on my vehicle. Let me say after being made aware of this I was beyond furious. I made several calls to Durham to try to rectify the problem and kept getting transferred to various extensions and getting voicemails. However when I spoke to someone at the Raleigh location they were able to tell me what happened which I was thankful for. I had finally gotten an answer. Upon learning about this issue I called right back to Durham and became more annoyed. I don't think I would have been so upset if the individual who has the title of being a finance manager was transparent. When I asked Darius Mingo to explain what happened and the "why" he began to make a bunch of excuses rather than getting to the point. The point is you submitted the paperwork and didn't bother to check or resend it which is careless and irresponsible! You had no regard that you willingly submitted the wrong information plus you never once wanted to take accountability until I said something about clearly it was a mistake! I get it we all make them at some point however there is a difference between outlining why something happened vs. taking accountability after you went all around the rose bush outlining what happened! I'm not here for nonsense and a bunch of excuses the only thing I want to hear is an explanation and for people to take their time checking over their work prior to submitting the wrong information. When dealing with customers it's not about being in a hurry! I would think someone in that capacity would be a little more detailed oriented. Moving forward I hope this issue gets resolved sooner than later. I was assured it was but being that this happened I can't trust Mr. Mingo especially when you can't admit a simple mistake! read more

I used to drive a lemon and visited many, many dealerships, repair shops etc. So I experienced many levels of customer service so I took my Lexus for battery issues and I just cannot believe the service I received :perfect 10, tanks to Ron Kerr, who went beyond call of duty and have my car delivered to my home when he found out I needed a ride! Did I say it was zero charge? Because battery was 4 months old and bought from another Lexus dealership across the country . I had a recall notice come in on my Lexus GS 350 and called Johnson Lexus to schedule repairs over a year ago. I was told they didn't the parts and they would call when they came in. I've called them every 3 months for the past year and they claim they don't have parts. I guess they don't want to do the recall work.
