I cannot find a working phone number for them, and their website is a dead link. I swore I got ahold of them the other day, but I don't see the phone number now. They've been very honest with me when they put on new brake pads that CarMedix wanted to charge me MUCH more to replace. Wasp let me buy the pads from Toyota for them to install. Once off they told me the old ones were still fine, showing their honesty. Told me they could recondition the rotors, but new ones were not needed. Well, we got the truck back with the radio on the floor and the knobs on the climate control not installed. I got new knobs because the old ones were brittle and broke when I tried to install them. A few days later, the battery is dead again, but they said the noise we were hearing was the power steering pump reservoir (a $500 fix that we opted out of). Out the door $149. I'm glad because we took the vehicle to Toyota, and they replaced the alternator, which was making that noise. I should have known when I walked in this place and there were parts boxes everywhere and the receptionist looked like she wanted to kill herself. Also, WASP wouldn't refund the $149. On the verge of tears from gratitude for Galen and how much he has literally SAVED me these last few years I've been coming to WASP automotive. After getting my oil changed from a different shop (which he had advised me against more than once) my CRV began leaking oil steadily. He determined the other shop over stripped the threads to my oil pan by over tightening, causing the leak. We just moved to the area and I am so glad that we ended up doing a little more research and found this place. Pete was amazing to work with and was very accommodating. I originally brought my 2001 Honda CRV to the local dealership to be looked at for a possible leak. They told me that I would need a new radiator and also recommended a bunch of other things totaling a price tag of over $3000. I figured a lot of it was bogus recommendations, seeing as they suggested getting work done, that I had just had done a month ago in Ohio. Needless to say, I brought it to Wasp Auto, they were kind enough to squeeze me in for an evaluation and only recommended the new radiator, without any of the other superfluous services the wallet gauging dealership recommended. I love this place. I used to take my car to brand name oil change, quick stop sort of places and always left with a bad taste in my mouth. Either they would try to talk me into changing out a filter that didn't need it or they would charge me for repairs I didn't approve. Wasp doesn't do any of that! I take my Subaru to see Pablo - he's a great guy! But they work on all Japanese model cars, and I believe there's a specialist for each one. Pete, who runs the place, is always trying to help out. As soon as my contract with the tire place runs out, I'm going to buy my tires from them too! They have a convenient waiting room, with wi-fi Internet and 2 computers. They have free soda and coffee, and lots of magazines to read. If you need to drop your car off and get to work, they'll take you! I work in Hillsborough and they've driven me out there more than once! All of that is complimentary when you bring your car in for anything! What I love most about this place though is how upfront and honest they are about your car. They'll explain things so that they make sense (even to a girl who knows nothing about what's under the hood) and they never try and pressure you into something you don't need! Pablo is great about reminding me about major upcoming services on my car and when they do roll around, I get put on a payment plan - because I need my car running, even if I don't have the cash to pay for it at the time. I really, really can't say too much about this place. These are great guys. Keep it local and bring your Japanese car to Wasp. I am not a mechanically-inclined person, and I know next to nothing about cars and how they work. (It's sad really.) Consequently, I've spent most of my life as a car-owning adult in a state of abject paranoia about the honesty and integrity of any mechanic I've had to deal with. These worries evaporated completely the very first time I took my Subaru to Wasp Auto. Wasp specializes in just about every Japanese make of car except Nissan. The mechanics here are friendly and knowledgeable, and, most importantly, they don't take advantage of the auotmotivally ignorant. To give a specific example, my most recent visit was to have Pablo (he's the Subaru specialist) take a look at a problem with my power steering. It ended up being a loose belt, and, amazingly, I wasn't charged anything to have it fixed! Seriously, I would have totally paid for parts, labor, whatever, without much question, and I can't imagine there are very many garages anywhere that wouldn't take this opportunity to make a little extra cash off a trusting sap like myself. They are usually very busy, so don't be surprised if you have a long wait. However, they have a very nice waiting room with comfortable seating and free WiFi. (And there are several breakfast/lunch options within walking distance.) I fully intend to continue taking my car to Wasp as long as I live in the Triangle, and when the time comes to buy a new car it will definitely be one of the makes they service. Incidentally, until I see proof to the contrary, I will continue to believe that my car is powered by "octanes," petroleum elementals that eat electricity and poop fire. read more

The place I was going to tried to soak me for over $900.00 in needless repairs. It's hard to convey how good this shop is. They only service Japanese cars, so keep that in mind. They are such an amazing group of honest, communicative, and knowledgeable people. I brought my car in recently with what seemed to be some engine issues (check engine light and some erratic performance), a radio turning on/off randomly, and a general check as I considered a new car purchase. These guys spent 2 hours checking out my car, taking it for a drive, solved my check engine light and told me it wasn't a concern, diagnosed my radio issue, and informed me about some tire rotation needing to get done. They took care of that and sent me on my way, charging me only a few dollars for the tire rotation and nothing for the rest. These guys are experts at communicating car knowledge in an approachable way, are super friendly, and are incredibly honest. Over the years they've told me I did not need work diagnosed with others and could not be happier with the honesty and service from Galen and the rest of the staff here. Do yourself a favor, and if you have a Japanese car, don't go anywhere else in Durham. read more

If I could give Wasp more than 5 stars, I would. I accidentally filled my car with diesel and Pete & his team did just a good job. They charged me a reasonable price to clean it out and did it in two days. Other repair centers were charging me over 500 and close to 1,000 and wouldn't even be able to take my car in until a week after. They always answered my calls and updated me consistently. It was such a great experience (except the filling my gas tank with diesel). I think I found a shop that I will continuously come to when I'm having car troubles. They only recommend work that you actually need done, and don't overcharge for it the way Crown and other area dealerships do (in my personal experience, YMMV). It's rare to find as excellent an auto shop as Wasp. I've been taking my Subaru and Honda to Wasp for three years now. As someone who doesn't know anything about cars (and who often worries that he is being lied to by mechanics), I have ZERO problem going back to Wasp every time. I am very sad to be leaving Durham this spring because I don't think I will ever be able to find an auto shop like this again. Simply put, these guys are amazing. The mechanics are kind, straightforward, honest, and hardworking. They are happy to walk me through repairs whenever I ask. On multiple occasions the mechanics have even given me fair, unbiased advice for free. For example, I was home in Massachusetts over Thanksgiving break and took my Honda to a local dealer for an oil change. I was told by the dealer that my brake pads were too thin and needed to be replaced for $500. Wary, I waited until I was back at Wasp. After 15 minutes, the Wasp Honda mechanic came over and told me that the front pads were at 50% and the back pads were at 70%. He told me that there's no way the pads could be shot anyway because Honda inserts a tab at the base of its pads that squeak when the pads need to be replaced. He recommended not changing the pads, and he didn't charge me anything. I haven't had a single problem since. THIS is the kind of service that will keep me coming back. I am happy to spend thousands of dollars at Wasp when it's needed because I know not a dollar will be wasted. Thank you, Wasp! read more

I went to have my 2011 Honda pilot looked at because I was having battery issues. Customer service was terrible which was all the females in the building. The 1st time they called (female which was VERY rude) told me that the mechanic said I had a defective battery. The battery was brand new in which i brought one week prior. They didn't check anything else to see if that was the exact issue. I had to recommend that they check the battery connectors. Sure enough, when the mechanic called me back, that's what it was. Go figure. They also didn't check any of the other concerns that I mentioned to "customer service" when I bought it in. Also, when I went to go pick up my car, "customer service" had just slam the phone with another customer, screaming at the phone saying "And stop chewing in my ear!" I'm glad other people have had better experience with them than I did. I will definitely not be going back since I pretty much had to tell them how to fix my own car. read more

After doing some research, I decided to take my car into Wasp Automotive to get an oil change and inspection before leavings town. When I arrived it was a challenge to find a place to park. I arrived at 8:45 am on a Thursday morning and every spot was just about occupied. I looked around for a reception area, but no one was around so I did not find out where to go until a chill mechanic saw me wandering around and dropped some knowledge on me. As for my luck, they do not service Nissan cars, so unfortunately my experience ended real quick. The mechanic did do everything to make up for it by getting me a name and number to another shop that might help. I appreciated his service even though I wasn't destined to be a customer, but I would go back if I had the right make. They had a nice wait area and WiFi. The reason for the 3/5 is because I had to go all the way down to their shop after reading on their website, " specializing in Japanese makes", to be denied service on a Nissan. It seemed like it isn't the first time it has happened, but their website could be more specific to save Nissan drivers time and hassle. They do service Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Honda, Mazda, and Acura vehicles. read more

When I searched for auto repair shops in Durham on yelp, Wasp soared above the rest. Nestled on a side street just off of 55, you can't see it until you're practically in the parking lot. GPS gets you there though. Walk inside and find yourself standing inside a huge garage...although it took me a minute to find the receptionist (only shop I've been in that you walk into the middle of the garage to check in), she was very nice and helpful once I made my way over. You'll find they have two waiting areas; one outdoor patio surrounded by a quaint garden (would be great on a cool day), and one indoor area with plenty of couches and tables. They have good wifi, a couple older iMacs for customer use, and, my favorite, a pour over coffee station with Counter Culture Coffee. They also have tea, sodas, and water. You could tell the mechanics were very familiar with the repeat customers there. They would come sit down with them to thoroughly go over the needed maintenance and condition on their vehicles. Without making my appointment several days in advance, I had a to wait a couple hours to get an oil change and basic checkup. Next time I'll try to plan ahead! Even with my wait and obscure (yet not too difficult to find) location, I will highly recommend it to everyone in the area. Can't beat trustworthy mechanics, reasonably price, quality service, comfortable atmosphere, and great coffee! read more

One of the things I most miss from Durham is having this place to take our cars. Seriously. I have never in my life been to an automotive shop that is just so dang trustworthy. They are honest, helpful, patient, and they know what they're doing. I have to give a special shout-out to Galen. He treated my little 95 Honda Civic like his own. Probably in part because he used to have a car just like her! Galen cares deeply about doing his job well, and he'll answer any and all questions you have. Even when I knew he had a booked schedule, he never seemed rushed or irritated. My husband took his Subaru Legacy in more than once, and Pablo was apparently totally awesome! Sweet, knowledgeable, and great with Subarus. We were never anything but totally impressed and satisfied with the work that Wasp Auto did! Their prices are good, especially considering the fact that you know you're not getting ripped off. In a perfect world, Wasp is how every auto repair shop would be. Three other notes: Sometimes the reception ladies can seem a bit terse and fried, but they are non-stop busy. They're not mean, I think they just really don't have time to chat, so don't take it personally! The gardens surrounding the Wasp Shop are well-worth taking a look at! Be sure to see the large Vitex trees, Edgeworthia, Lilac and Winter Daphne, one of the prettiest Tupelos I've ever seen, Beautyberries, and so much more! Whoever they have doing their landscaping is talented! When I was last there I noticed that in their waiting room (which also has so cool stuff for kids to play with) had complimentary Counter Culture coffee available. I mean, SERIOUSLY?! The best quality about Wasp is the honesty of the mechanics. They are friendly and explain to you what's going on in a way you can understand even if you don't pump your own gas. They specialize in Japanese makes except Nissan/Infinti. I think they do hybrids too as I'm looking at a couple of Priuses (Prii? Prius's?) in the parking lot as I'm typing this. The -1 star is for the wait. This most recent visit, I watched my car sit in the lot for 1 hour and 10 minutes before it was taken in the garage--that's with an appointment. The last time I was here was about 45 minutes until it went into the garage. If you can do it, better to drop off the car and come back later. They have shuttle service with a generous radius, but I have never used it. They have a worn but well-stocked, air-conditioned waiting room with couches, tables, complementary beverages, two really old iMacs, and a wi-fi connection. If you have to wait on site, at least you're covered. There are a couple of places to eat within walking distance. They'll provide some service for free. I was having brake trouble a few months back and they put it on the lift and checked them out for me while I waited without an appointment. I don't hesitate to recommend Wasp to anyone with a Japanese import. Don't bother going to your dealer or a quick-change oil place. Prices are reasonable for the personalized service they provide. read more

One of the best things about living in South Durham is Wasp Auto. Their prices are reasonable and their techs are very competent and nice to talk to. I purchased my very first hybrid last year and took it to Wasp for a full inspection. The technician who inspected my car put my mind at rest and answered every question I had. Further experience with Wasp has just further confirmed their trustworthiness. When my check engine light came on, I brought the car to Wasp. They found that the code was for the catalytic converter (a really expensive repair). But they told me that since it was the first time the light had come on, and the car was otherwise running well, I shouldn't worry about it -- sometimes that code gets tripped just by driving through a cold puddle. They didn't even charge a diagnostic fee. I also brought it in to have the driver's side power window fixed. Pete told me if it had been any other window, he'd tell me not to bother (but he could understand how I'd want the driver's window to work). With these experiences, I'm totally happy to bring in my car with any weird issue or question I have -- because I trust that they'll be honest with me about whether work needs to be done, or whether it's worth it. P.S. Currently my spouse and I are shopping for another used Toyota or Honda. We won't buy anything until Wasp looks it over. P.P.S.
