I am owned my Volvo XC60 for over 4 years and have always gone to Johnson Volvo Service. I had a bad experience before but I like to get my car serviced at one place but this is the last straw. Back on June 22, 2025 I had a message stating "auto start stop needs to be serviced" A test was completed and removed and replaced support battery. Fast forward to May 2026 and the on call service light comes on- I return to Johnson and told that support battery is bad and needs to be replaced- I bring it to technician attention that I had that battery replaced back in June - he states that's not the same battery- ok replace the battery. I hadn't heard anything so I call service advisor and asked will my car be ready by 5 pm - mind you I dropped it off at 7:30am. He stated "Yes" I get there to pick up my vehicle and pay the bill. I reviewed the receipt and to my surprise "same battery # and no charge for battery- Just labor . The life expectancy of this battery is 4-7 years and this battery 1 year 1 month. From the way I am looking at this - I was charged labor again for a bad battery and had to pay another disposal fee for a bad battery that was originally put in my car. Oh and take note labor cost went up by $9.00 (haha). I am not disgruntle- just tired of being mistreated by a dealership because I am a woman. Women learn about your vehicle and save all receipts because the advisors will upscale you and clearly replace the same items and act like they doing you a favor. I am highly disappointed and now have to find another dealership for my Volvo. read more

This has been the worst car service I've dealt with in thirty years of driving. I will hopefully be able to find another Volvo dealer or capable garage in the future, as I don't intend to ever return to a Johnson car dealership. The short version - It took me four consecutive long bad visits in a row to get a tire with a hole in it replaced. I brought my car in for a regular service back in March, and although I was told it would only take 90 minutes it ended up taking over 4 hours. I assume this is because at 2 hours, they say you are allowed to take a loaner car? It's also possible that they are just horrible at estimating how slow things move, which is strange because they are there every day and see how things move. Regardless, after 4 hours I drove home, and ten minutes into my drive I had a light go off that a tire had low pressure. I drove back the following week when I had time, and they offered to patch the wheel for free, saying it would take 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, I swung by the desk to ask how it was going, and the car hadn't even been brought into the back to be fixed yet. When it was finally done, I drove out of the dealer and started heading back home. The tire pressure low light was (of course) still on, so I turned around and headed back to the dealer to ask them to take another look. They said it just takes time for the light to go off, everything's fine don't worry about it. So, I headed home. The light never turned off, so I've been refilling the air in the tire until I had a chance to go back to the dealership today to get it looked at, and they found a hole in my tire. This hole has clearly been there since they serviced it the first time, possibly because of the service itself. Now I have to replace my tires, so this has all become expensive in addition to absurdly more time intensive than necessary. So, after an hour of looking into it and getting the car ready to have tires replaced, I was told this would take an hour to 90 minutes to fix. After watching my car sit with nobody working on it for an hour, I finally asked to speak to a manager and was told that I wouldn't be able to take the car home until lunch time. They let me take a loaner home finally, so there's one piece of decent service, but now I'll have to drive all the way back to get my car after already spending two hours there this morning. This place is awful, avoid at all costs. read more

$69k Buyer Treated With Zero Respect - Avoid This Dealership Worst sales experience I've ever had. Theo G. in Sales wouldn't let me speak, talked over me nonstop, and even accused me of "compromising his integrity." Completely unprofessional and insulting behavior. I was ready to spend $69k, but instead I blocked him and will never do business with this dealership. I called the service department today to inquire about a bill we received from Volvo Finance about a lease car. All the maintenance was done at Durham Volvo, even a software update due to a recall. My husband took the car in twice and mentioned a warning light was on. They never fixed it as it continued to come on. The fella in service department who says he is the manager was clueless. Could not respond to my questions, said he had never heard of a situation like this. He barely let me finish speaking, interrupting at every turn. Transferred me to the manager. The manager for today is a used car salesman. Seriously, this is what he told me. He had the same temperament as service person. Actually rude. Transferred me back to service manager and guess what? It went to voicemail. No surprises here folks. Just look at the inventory sitting on Johnson Volvo Durham lot and you will see they are not moving any cars. They are not up to date on Volvo Leasing options and offers. I am sure Mr. Johnson would not want to be treated like this or have any of his family treated in this manner. Not sure who is in charge of this whole dealership thing, but they do not have their best people working. I agree with some of the other reviews regarding lack of knowledge with service, rudeness etc. Why would you spend money with people like this?? The general manager, Blake Boyd is extremely unprofessional, ineffective and incompetent. Every interaction I have had with him, he has been rude, unhelpful and inappropriate. Blake allowed someone to access my vehicle, my leasing information and shared confidential information with them because he assumed that this person was a "relative" of mine. I called to inquire about what was going on and his response was "this is not a court of law, you need to work this out with the police and your relative." This "relative" that he allowed to access my vehicle and confidential leasing information, is not listed on my lease or car insurance. This person has no attachment to my vehicle. I have never had such a negligent and irresponsible customer service experience. I reached out to Volvo Care Team, attempting to receive some assistance and they shared that they could not help, due to the dealership being privately owned. I do not recommend any automotive related services from this location. The Burlington and Raleigh locations are great. read more

Ive owned Volvo since 1980, and when I leased my recent xc90 from Johnson Volvo Durham, they were not transparent with the lease particulars that kept me from being able to trade this vehicle on another brand. I have been locked into this lease, and can only trade back into volvo, or purchase only a volvo. They were unprofessional in conversation in trying to help me get out of the lease, they overinflated the negative equity put into the lease, keeping the value of vehicle less than car value, overwhelming negative aspects overall. Now with tariff inflated pricing, my volvo cannot be traded. The dealership mgmt were not willing to satisfy my concerns, or would not even try to help find a solution for me to exit the lease. They put me off !! I have bought several volvo's from this dealership in the past, with a good scenerio, however, once they entered me into this current lease, the dealership washed their hands of trying to help me exit or purchase another vehicle in their inventory. Stay Away from dealing with this dealership. Dishonet, not transparent, unprofessional, and will do ANYTHING to stick you into a car just to make their profit numbers. Also Volvo Financial is a monopoly, not allowing you to trade fro a different car brand other than Volvo. This was never disclosed, and now Im left sitting with a shitty deal, I am sure they do not care, Stay away, what they say they will do to support you, is not the reality. Tony and the other staff in service were extremely friendly and professional. After my 40k tuneup my car was returned immaculate. No charge for the loaner unlike the Volvo dealership closer to where I live. I will definitely drive the extra distance to Durham to get my car serviced. I also highly recommend Forrest Harrell in sales. He's been my go to sales rep for the last two XC90 T8's I've driven. I'm saving up for the all electric replacement in 1-2 years. read more

Part came to report item I broke on my car. My appointment was at 10 am but they took me in earlier. Service manager directed me to service bay and entered my service into the computer. He then escorted me to the waiting area since I had not been there before and showed me around - where the restroom was located, internet station & complimentary coffee, water & snacks. Soon I received text introducing my mechanic who would be doing my work. When done, Shane came to the waiting area & completed my payment. We were driving from DC to NC when the emissions light went on. Given that it was the Saturday before Christmas, which was Monday, we were really worried that no one would look at the car. We were able to reach Shane at Johnson Volvo, who said that they would take a look. We got there an hour before closing and they checked the car! I traveled from Florida to Durham for a very important medical appointment at Duke University Hospital. The morning of appointment my Volvo showed a low tire pressure signal. The timing couldn't have been worse, I waited 6 weeks and traveled 555 miles to miss an appointment ! Made the run from Garner to Durham praying for the tire to hold air. Made it to Johnson Volvo, they inspected and said it was fixable but they needed more time than I had available. Filled tire to max pressure and said come back after hospital visit. Went back at 15:00, they took me right in. Took an hour to make repair with mushroom plug, the best fix. They washed the car, detailed interior and told us " you're good to go ". Waited for the invoice and the manager said "have a safe trip home " it's on us!! I was shocked, these people are so polite and great service. Thank you so much Johnson Volvo. read more

I was contacted within a day by a manager (Marcus), telling me I could expect to hear from someone soon. This didn't happen straight away but within a day or so, Sarena reach out and I made an appointment to test drive and well, I'm now the proud leasee of a car that was nicer than what I was looking for, at a better price than I ever anticipated. My sales person, Cameron Howze, was terrific; super chill, easy to deal with and I'd recommend him to anyone for a completely flawless experience. I came here for oil change. The technicians were awfully irresponsible and left several tool marks on the bonnet of my car. They can be seen lackadaisically moving aimlessly about, laughing and conversing. They do not do their jobs with the kind of seriousness and attentiveness one sees in their counterparts at other sevice centers in Burlington and Cary, where I regularly service my car. -Had an initial bad experience. It was so bad I wrote to Johnson Automotive management. -Their Manager reached out and asked me to give them another chance to earn my business. -I agreed and they finally let me see the car I actually wanted to buy. After talking with their sales manager, they are agreed to fix a bunch of stuff wrong with the car. -They called and asked us to come see it again. Car looked better (it was a lot cleaner) but still some other stuff needed to be fixed dents, scratches etc. They agreed and I plainly expressed my desire to buy the once it was all fixed as we agreed. -They called on a Monday and asked us to come see it that day. I said, we couldn't as my wife wasn't feeling good, we would come in a day or two. -They called the next day. They sold the car. At this point I wasn't even surprised by the news or upset with them. My only thought was, I knew it! I was more upset with myself for not listening to my gut about this place. My advice: If this place is on your list, don't expect too much or great customer service and you won't be disappointed. With this specific dealership, if you feel something isn't right, you are probably correct. Just get up and leave. If you are planning on buying a used car, please please make sure they fix everything. From other reviewers you will see they usually don't honor that and you end up with stuff not working or you will need to fix. read more

Was just there a week or two ago. Had mediocre service. Difficult to schedule an appointment, scheduler couldn't give me information, she said she had to have an advisor to call me back with information and pricing and that she didn't know, she didn't even take down my concerns correctly and apparently forgot I needed a loaner car so they were scrambling for a long time to get me something to drive. The advisor was not in touch with me throughout the entire service process at all!! I had no idea what was going on and had to call several times to try to get an update on my vehicle. All around not impressed!! (Although, the techs were extremely knowledgeable and professional, and gave me helpful and detailed information, info that the advisor couldn't explain at all. The advisor even claimed to have no idea that something was done to my car, even though I found it myself, as it was clearly written out in my paperwork right in front of him.)
