Johnson's Drive In reopened the dining portion in August I was told. So that is where I dined on my most recent stop. I was surprised how busy it was at 10:30am and all the to go orders they were getting. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and told I could sit anywhere I wanted. I sat at the bar as I didn't want to take up a booth. Then I could watch the action. I could tell that regulars frequent the burger shop as they knew most people by name and what they ordered. The owner passed away a few weeks ago. I could sense something happened from some of the conversations with the regulars. He left a legacy that his parents started with the simple menu and the quality beef. My cheeseburger was served hot with the toppings I ordered and that melted cheese. The fries were also piping hot like I enjoy them and more like steak fries. I will need another excuse to head back this way for another burger.

If you haven't been to Johnson's in Siler City, you're missing out. Quite possibly the best cheeseburger in the state, hands down. I know there's been a lot of talk lately about other places that are really good, but you can't beat somewhere that's been around since 1946. The burgers are cooked with a slab of Velveeta that melts into the meat. The employees are super friendly and quick to take your order once you get your seat. The dining room was closed for a long time thanks to the pandemic and loyal customers would order their burgers from the window and bring camping chairs and sit in the parking lot and eat. I have done that many times. If you're anywhere near Siler City, North Carolina, and you love a good cheeseburger definitely want to check out this place.

Established in 1946, Johnson's Drive-In is a trip back in time. Their hamburgers were rated by Our State magazine as the best in NC. The burgers are prepared to order so they are really fresh (take that Wendy's!). This ain't fast food. They are going to prepare your burger for you and do it right. Expect to wait about twenty minutes while they work their magic. The burgers are a decent size though not huge. Additions include lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Johnson's uses Velveta which is a nice, melty, touch. Johnson's hotdogs are a traditional NC dog featuring a very nice chili. Their fries are large and a throw back to earlier times. They also offer cheese dogs (all cheese, no dog) and grilled cheese sandwiches. Prices are pretty decent and given the quality of the food, a good value. Currently, Johnson's is take out only: No dining inside. Treat yourself to a great burger made the way things done before "fast food".

The cheeseburger was amazing. My homie hyped this place up and it lived up to it. Service was great. Bring cash

Happened to be in Sanford NC today visiting an awesome friend. He and his wife both raved about the burgers here. Historic place which was established in nine-teen and 40 IIIIII. The guy who took our order was very friendly and a little comical. I chose the cheeseburger and my wife had a plain ol burger. We split a fry and chased it with a delicious Cheerwine. I'll give em a four. Stop by if you're in Sanford and try them out.

    Simple but great menu!

Johnson's Drive In may not look like much from the road but this is why you never judge a book by the cover! The decor is old school as you feel like you stepped back into the 70's but it truly goes with the amazing food served up and the southern hospitality. The menu is very simple with burgers, dogs, and fries. The hotdog was possibly one of the best hotdogs I've had and the cheeseburger with Velveeta cheese was perfect with some crisp to the edge of the burger. This is definitely a spot worth stopping for while traveling on 421.

I have been hearing quite a few people talking about how great this place is, so I decided to try it out for myself. I grew up in a town with a local restaurant that everyone had a nostalgic love for. I thought peoples high praise of Johnson's was for the same reason. Boy, was I wrong! I ordered a cheese burger and fries. The fries were great, but the burger...wow. The thick piece of melted cheese, the buttery bun, and the fresh meat patty were all executed with the perfection that comes from making them the same way since the 40's. If you are looking for a perfect burger, this is the place to go.

Kudos to any local restaurant that has been in operation for over 70 years! The folks from the area are incredibly loyal to this place. Simple menu, no frills. I arrived at 10:45 am (opens at 10) and got one of two counter stools that were open. Ordered the cheeseburger with chili, fries, and a sweet tea. If you are used to the fast food "here's your premade burger" and be on your way type of place, this isn't for you. The grill has about a dozen burgers cooking at any one time, and that slab of Velvetta on top is a wonderful thing. Expect a wait. on seating, placing an order, and getting your food. I've done it, enjoyed the food, and can now claim I've eaten at another famous NC eatery.

A good burger stop when in the area. This place has been around for years and has always maintained good quality burgers. The dining area was not open during our visit but the walk up window for ordering worked just fine. They were observing COVID protocol and offered a great feel of safety. We had to wait about 20-minutes for our order to be prepared but that was just fine. A piece of NC restaurant history and deserves a visit.

Well we dropped by Johnson's own our way into Siler City while visiting some of my wife's family. All though we have enjoyed a many of those fantastic burgers for the last 40 some years this was the new deal.We ordered on line place our order and picked up at their new to go window. Now if we could just get them to add pickles to their menu. When ordering online they take a debit card like most do now.Which is also a first. We already planning another trip. And they have added Cheerwine to they drink line.Another step forward.

I've been going to Johnson's since I was about 5 years old. Sadly I haven't been in almost 10 years well it hasn't changed a bit. The burgers literally melt in your mouth and are cooked to perfection. The walk up window always has excellent service and is always friendly. Order on the app for the quickest and easiest way to skip the wait and get your food faster.

The order of the build saw the toppings hiding beneath the patty, and a hunk of Velveeta melted on top.

From the moment we walked through the door, the owners, Slim and his wife, Lynn, made us feel like family. Neither me, my family nor Slim are originally from Siler City, but you'd have thought we'd all known each other for 30 years. They were professional, genuinely welcoming, and went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. They brought our food out promptly and Lynn spent time working the room (lol) with her mix of warm, welcoming personality and a sense of humor that had customers smiling and laughing everywhere she went. Slim and I had a chance to chat a bit about his story, and at the same time he made sure everything was exactly the way it should be. Getting to know both of them and hearing about the journey they've been on over the last few years was honestly one of the highlights of our visit. Now let's talk about the food... absolutely phenomenal. The mild chicken wings were exactly what my family has been searching for ever since leaving the Southwest, where bold flavor and great food are simply the expectation. Today, I'm happy to report that The Bone Yard has officially become our East Coast BBQ spot! We sampled a little bit of everything, including the mild wings, a full rack of ribs, and a half pound of pulled pork topped with Slim's own Carolina mustard sauce. Every single item brought something unique to the table. Nothing tasted ordinary or mass produced. The ribs were tender, juicy, and practically fell off the bone. The pulled pork was packed with flavor, and that mustard sauce put it over the top. Every bite showed the care, passion, and pride that goes into the food. You can genuinely taste the difference. As I looked around the restaurant, all I saw were smiling faces enjoying incredible food, and I knew we weren't the only ones who felt this way. In our opinion, this is hands down the best BBQ we've had anywhere in North Carolina. Would we drive 40 minutes just to eat here again? Without hesitation... hell, we might do it again tomorrow. Five stars all day long. Incredible food. Incredible people. An unforgettable experience. Slim and Lynn have built something truly special, and we can't wait to come back. If you're anywhere near Siler City, do yourself a favor and make the trip. You'll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit.

This wasn't one of those burgers you eat because you're hungry--this was the kind you eat in complete silence because you're too busy enjoying every bite. On top of the amazing food, the service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. They also have covered outdoor picnic tables with fans running overhead, which was a really nice touch. I don't think many people need to be told what to expect from the food at a chain, McDonald's is of course, a well known quantity. When I rate chains, I rate them based on how they have stacked up vs. other locations of the same chain. So for example, one of the best McD's experiences I have ever had, could get a 5. Like this one has. I pulled in here late, like 11pm or so, on my travels back from Cary to Greensboro. McDonald's honestly has one of the best apps in the business. I don't even go there very often, but I keep the app because it makes ordering so easy and there are always good deals in the app that don't appear at the restaurant normally. I love that I can browse, make my selections and customise, then just pull into a curbside spot and they bring it out to me. I went for a BOGO double cheeseburger deal with a half-half tea and pulled into a curbside spot. There were probably 4 cars in the drive thru, and remember, it's late and a remote location, so my expectations were pretty low. Without fail, in about 5 minutes, maybe less. A friendly employee came out to my car, order in hand. She confirmed with me what I had ordered, and told me to have a great night with a smile. I opened my first burger, slammed my straw in my beverage, and resumed the drive. I did not expect to have one of the juiciest McD's burgers I had ever had at this point, good thing I folded the wrapped underneath. It was warm, juicy, well constructed, and delicious. It's twin was the same way. The tea was standard McD's tea, which I honestly think is some of the best in the fast food game, just below CFA. No pics, because this was on the super go... but I had to highlight the great service even at a late hour, especially since it looks like this location has had a rough go of it in the review area.
