I know this is a southern cafeteria. It's cheap and the food is proof of that. We go here once every couple of months when I'm too lazy to cook. Food seems to have gotten worse tasting and the servers are super skimpy with the gravies and toppings. Fried chicken used to be really good but now it's a greasy mess. The mashed potatoes I believe are like powdered or something. They're like glue. If you can improve those-we'll be back. I wouldn't even care paying more if it was good food It is what it is. We stopped at this place after a soccer tournament. We aren't from the area but found it on Yelp and it looked great. My family of four and our grandparents were all with us. They had no problems seating a large crowd and the food was really good. It was good enough that we came back for a second time with another large crowd being half our team. Food quality, service, and price did not add up today. I was told I could substitute white rice for mashed potatoes for my beef stir fry but what they failed to include is that I would have to pay for the potatoes. They gave me three pieces of beef in my stir fry and two of those pieces were big chunks of fat. The mashed potatoes tasted like box potatoes with no seasoning and they were runny. The fried okras were good and the Cole slaw was ok. All they could say was "I'm sorry". I just wasted $12.09. I left hungry and disappointed. And their bathroom stalls are too small for the average person. read more

After being on the road all day, we popped in for dinner. The cafeteria has a cute shop in the front that you can browse through before you get to the cafeteria in the back. We got there close to closing time and most of the food was almost gone. I got the chicken pot pie, baked potato, and corn with blackeye peas. Don't judge the picture too much since it looks like someone threw up on my plate. All of it was very good and I couldn't finish all of it since it was a lot. It has been a long time since I have ate in a cafeteria. It was a bit of a throwback for me reminiscing the experience. Walking in immediately it gives you the resemblance of a Cracker Barrel. Gift shop first then walk through gift shop to the Cafeteria. The experience is as expected honestly. I had the Country fried steak and it was a bit hard and over cooked, the cheesecake wasn't anything very special. The crust was definitely tasting store bought and still wasn't that great. Honestly, this place is slept on. People under a certain age write it off because it is a cafeteria! Don't do that my friends. If you are in the mood for grandma-style dinner, come here and be amazed! The best chicken pie for miles and luckily, you can take home a frozen one for a family dinner at a later date. Prior to COVId, they had a pretty great salad bar--it wasn't open the last time I was there but it could be because I was there at the end of lunch. Cafeteria style food holds a place in my heart and Bestfood does it right. Nestled in a strip mall, they share a entrance with Haley Bales and the gift shop. It's your typical cafeteria design where you get your silverware, drink, tray, someone plates your food, you get your roll or cornbread at the end, they give you a ticket, and then when you're done you pay at the cash register near the entrance. They typically have about 6 meat options and 8 or so side options. The selection is smaller than other cafeterias but this means that it's fresher and the quality is better. They also do kids plates, which is a smaller entree portion and two sides. Last night I had beef tips and rice, with a side of green beans. My little got the fried chicken, okra, and pasta salad. I am not once to eat fried okra because most times it's still slimy inside. This was not the case. It was so delightfully crisp that my little called it a "hush puppy" and ate half! They didn't even bat an eye that this same little decided that a cucumber from the garden would accompany him to dinner and that we needed to cut and serve it at the table. All of the food was great. The service is good, as they have one attendant for each dining area who will check on you and refill your drink as needed. The inside is just tables and chairs, and you can push tables together for a big crowd or just your family after church. But be prepared - Sunday lunch will have a line that is sometimes all the way back to the entrance. This place will forever be one of my favorite places to eat, and I'm glad my family likes it too. read more

This is another one of those places that's been on my Siler City/Bear Creek/Sanford bucket list for awhile now (the Fried Chicken is said to be exceptional), but today at lunch we took it off that list, and put it on the "Come Back Very Often" list! The restaurant is in an older strip mall on the northern edge of Siler City, and though there are a number of rocking chairs out front, it is rather difficult to sense much of a country atmosphere, inside or out. Inside, leading into the dining area, is a country store area, similar to Cracker Barrel, but tackier. The dining area is rather plain, the tables and chairs functional and rather worn looking, and the entire area is dimly lit, not exactly gloomy, but on the edge of it. As you proceed to the cafeteria area at the back of the restaurant, you pass through an area lined with pies on both sides, and there is a nicely sized salad bar on the right, which you can purchase separately, or add to your meal of cafeteria dishes - and if you are looking for a low calorie, healthy meal here, you'll pretty much be limited to this area of the restaurant. The cafeteria line is not especially long, but there is an ample number of country cooking choices, including Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Chicken Pot Pie, Country Style Steak, Pork Chops, and BBQ Chicken, and more that vary from day to day. There are a nice selection of vegetables, as well as desserts. Bread choices are limited to Cornbread ($.20 a square) and dinner roll. We chose the Fried Chicken with Field Peas & Corn, and Broccoli Casserole for one plate; Country Style Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Pintos filled up the other. Along the way we picked up a piece of Lemon Chess Pie and a square of cornbread - total for everything including 2 teas ($1.59 each) was $18.61, with each meat selection at $3.25. The Fried Chicken is as good as ANY fried chicken we've tasted in any restaurant, the vast majority of private homes, and even that found at "Dinner On The Grounds" prepared by the little, old church ladies. The 2 pieces of chicken are perfectly fried, perfectly seasoned resulting in a solid salt and pepper taste, and only that small amount of greasiness that makes it outstanding Southern Fried Chicken. The Country Style was exceptional in its own right - tender and flavorful, high quality meat, smothered in a rich, brown gravy, bringing another layer of outstanding flavor to the dish. The Mashed Potatoes were freshly made, with a nice pool of gravy in the middle, and the Field Peas were very nice, as well. The Pintos were a bit under seasoned, but still tasty. The Broccoli Casserole was not especially good, the cornbread was really nice. The Lemon Chess Pie was a disappointment, with little lemon taste and a mealy texture in spots, but we did bring a whole, great looking Chocolate Meringue Pie home with us. The folks here are friendly and efficient (your drinks will be refilled before empty), the prices are nice, and the food is excellent, and will get even better as we work through the available choices. We eat here frequently and find the food and staff to be consistent. They have the BEST fried chicken! I also really like their chicken pie and country style steak. The vegetables are good - typical southern style, and the tea is also good. (The ice is the little round pieces that most everyone likes to get.) I haven't had many of the desserts but the ones I have had were good. The German Chocolate pie is my favorite. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The facilty is clean. You pay when you leave. They have frozen chicken pies in a variety of sizes as well as a few other items you can buy to take home. There is a small shopping area at the front of the building with an assortment of seasonal items, a few clothing options, jewelry, garden flags, etc. Sunday's are super busy after church so expect a line. The longest we have waited was about 30 minutes and that was when the line was all the way outside the entrance door. The line typically moves quickly but is dependent on how quickly the guests make their choices. It isn't the fault of the staff! Sadly the salad bar has been discontinued, but I understand why. They open at 11:00am, close at 2:00pm and reopen at 4:00pm. Sunday is from 11:00 am to 3:00pm only. They share the facility with a steak house, so don't be intimidated by a waiting crowd. Walking in this place, I thought I hit a gold mine. There was a shelf of light filled with pies! PIES on doillies. Chocolate, coconut, chess, pecan. In the fridge, there were peanut butter, strawberry & toffee crunch. I was so excited, I couldn't make up my mind what kind of pie I wanted. So I walk to the food part of the cafeteria, the food looked a little sad, it didn't look that great, so I just thought I am not going to waste my traveling dive meal on this. So you know what I did???? I bought three pieces of pie to go, chess, chocolate & coconut! $4.43 for three slices of pie. Mmmmmm pie, maybe I should go have a bite for breakfast. read more

12/19/2020: Today was the second time going to this establishment and experiencing racism. I went to Bestfood Cafeteria to look around in the store at the the Christmas items. As I walked through the door two young females were sitting behind the register. One young caucasian female and one young african american female. I made eye contact with both females who looked at me and did not speak nor did they speak or acknowledge my mother and aunt who were with me. As I proceeded to walk past the register the caucasian female watched my every move  as if I was out of place. She even said to the other female, what is she looking at. This is ridiculous!  I was taken back at how unprofessional  these females were acting.  After being in the store for several minutes not once did either female ask if there was anything they could assist me with. This establishment should do a better job training their employees because both females lacked customer service and courtesy. I feel my family and I were stereotyped because we are African American. Its sad because a young African American female works there and she even acted as if she was stereotyping another African American family, as if why are you here?  I do not recommend this establishment to any African American because its seems you will be treated differently than caucasians, seeing my personal experience with this place not once but twice.  I will be posting my first racist experience with this establishment shortly. read more

Top notch local cafeteria. I had tea, chicken pot pie, two sides, and a slice of pie all for10 bucks. Everything I had was excellent, but the chicken pot pie in particular stood out--one of the best I had. They have a rotating selection of entrees for 3.69 each, all of which I'd have given a try. The ham, fried chicken and beef tips all looked good, and even the salad bar (6.99 alone or 3.69 with a meal) looked fresh and well maintained. On the way out, they have full sized sweet and savory pies for sale. There is also a little store of clothes, decorative things, and tchotchkes...not really my style, but definitely the types of things my mom would love. Walk up to the line, order your drink, pick a dessert if your heart desires, then pick your meat followed by a large selection of veggies and last but not least pick your bread choice. You can also do the salad bar here which has good fried chicken on it. It's not my favorite place to eat here in Siler by a long shot. To me the food is bland tasting and lacking seasoning. Food is decent, we eat here occasionally as they have a good variety of semi-home-cooked food and decent prices. Similar to Cbarrel...good meat and taters place. Today we had 3 separate drinks - water, tea, and soda... all had a chemical taste. They said it's the city water, but I'm not sure if the soda machine uses city water? We haven't experienced this problem in the past with drinks there. We left all 3 drinks mostly full and got bottled water at the nearby convenience store. I don't want to say this place is country, but they have fried chicken on the salad bar. Everything else is a la carte, so you get an entree for $3.50, a side for $1.50, etc. Food was tasty versions of country cooking... Country style steak, fried fish, the aforementioned fried chicken, etc. Sides were solid, and the price was right. Our family of six (three adults, three kids) ate for $40. We'll be back. Country style steak with gravy and onions, butter beans, and mash potatoes are my favorites but I have tried about everything and believe me, it's all good. It is a traditional cafeteria type atmosphere where the locals eat regularly. If you want to avoid the rush get there early. They have whole pies for sale along with other eats. Best deal is the salad buffet bar. It includes fried chicken and desserts on the bar for under $8. You can ask for white meat and they will give it to you. They only put dark meat out on the buffet. Stopped here for lunch while I was in the area. This place is a bit odd, for one it's huge, you have to go through a gift store to get to the eating area, which is set up like a school cafeteria. There is a small salad bar, and yes, it has fried chicken and several desserts! That is what I ordered, because it seemed cheaper than ordering individual items. And the lady that worked there let me know that you get a hot veggie with the salad bar, so I got the stuffed potato, which was really good! The weird thing is even if you just want the salad bar, you still have to go through the food line. And then they just give you a ticket, that you have to use to pay on the way out. The chicken was really good, crispy skin, with very juicy meat underneath. And the desserts were good too, I loved the banana pudding! And there is a really tasty tuna salad on the salad bar. But the actual salad portion of the bar is a bit disappointing, only iceberg lettuce, and a limited number of toppings, but I guess that allows them to keep the items fresh. We were on our way back from Fort Bragg and as usual looking for a place to stop for dinner. As we were approaching Siler City, I did a search on the Yelp site to see what it showed. When I saw a 5 star by Fred B and he talked about the Fried Chicken, I knew this place was calling my name. So off the highway we pull as we reach the Siler City Exit and start down the road and my GPS takes me right to it. Now the time is about 6:30 pm on a Saturday night and the parking lot has a lot of cars in it. I was concerned it might be packed. But as we walked in and could see into the restaurant there was plenty of room and no line at the serving line. Of course they try to throw you off as you walk in with coolers on both sides of the aisles filled with all of their variety of pies and cakes. I was ready to shop there and head home for an all-night pig out, but Mary wouldn't allow it. We walked right up to the line and got our drinks, trays and utensils and turn to the hard part, deciding what to eat. Everything on the serving looked mouth-watering. Of curse the first things to choose after your drinks is your dessert, what a way to start, love it! Mary choose the Chess pie and I had the Apple pie. After that you have to make your entree selection and based on Fred B's comments I honed in on the Fried Chicken, white meat choice, and Mary went for the Country Fried Steak. We both had Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, while Mary selected the Green Beans as a veggie, I went with the Fried Okra. And we both picked up a plate for the salad bar. My only concern for the entire experience was that the plates for the salad had just come from the kitchen and were hot. They must have been busy before we got there and used up the plates. By the way the salad bar is a separate charge, but well worth it. When deciding where to sit, we noticed most people were sitting on the side closest to the Salad Bar and we followed suit. Takes less time to get to the salad bar. But, because the salad plates were so hot, we decided to start on our entrees first and get our salad after bit. And, I will admit, the fried chicken was calling my name. I will have to say after eating both pieces and several more off the salad bar, I have not tasted any better fried chicken anywhere. And yes I did say I got more off the salad bar. This is the only place where I have see a "salad" bar with fried chicken on it. And I am not complaining about it believe me. The salad bar was continuing being refreshed and the lettuce mixture was very crisp. The selection of other veggies was very good, they had radishes which many salad bars in the Carolina's don't have. All the Veggies were cut up into nice bite pieces. There were also gelatin's and desserts on the bar as well. I would go back just for the salad bar which was priced very reasonable at under $7.00. I think you can tell that we enjoyed out stop here. And to assure you, Mary gave her stamp of approval when she said, "I would come back here!" That is her way of telling me that we have found the place to have dinner when making the trip back from Fort Bragg. While the place is a bit dated, it is clean. And everyone was very friendly and helpful. The lady working our area checked on us and re-filled our drinks without ever having to ask. And without a question all of the food that we ate was excellent. The serving sizes are large. So much so that we brought our desserts home with us to give our stomachs time to digest the dinner. Selection is limited but there is something for everyone: chicken (fried and baked), beef and even fish. They have a small salad bar that includes fried chicken. The food is good and the prices are incredibly low. I had beef tips over white rice, pinto beans, beef noodle ( mas & cheese with ground beef), and my husband had 2 pieces of baked chicken with mashed potatoes and 1 vegetable. Include 2 rolls, 2 drinks and 2 pies. Total was less than 20 dollars!!! Love this place and we will be back for more! read more

I use to eat here everytime I was passing threw town, great food, great staff! There use to be a girl that worked there for ever that I would love conversating with. Not sure if she is still there or not, I havent been to eat in about 1 yr. Her name was Barbara, I think. She is GREAT!!!!! I dont think it would be the same coming in to eat and not seeing her.
