I'm sending an update because I finally received a response from the owner brad Johnson after two days. In a nut shell he told me to file a claim with my insurance company and they could go after them. Here's a direct quote from his email to me "In addition, when we are asked to load an item (especially a heavy item) in a cargo area of a vehicle, some wear to that cargo area is to be expected." Apparently in their opinion damage to a brand new vehicle is normal and expected. I'm flabbergasted at this response. read more

I stopped in today to wander the aisles in search of a birthday gift for my dad, who has everything... Thankfully Kyle, a friendly young man, asked if I needed help. He suggested a Yeti mug and I ended up purchasing Yeti wine tumblers for both of my parents. They will love them! Kyle then helped me find a hanging flower basket with "traily down thingies", which was the best description I could give of what I wanted. He found the perfect basket, and carried it to my car because it was huge. Awesome service at a local business! read more

Not saying, I don't enjoy the big box stores, but the smaller, locally owned stores like Johnson's are outstanding. Sure they have a lot of the same things that other stores have, but it's the people that make the difference. I've gone in a few times since moving to this area And never been disappointed. I was over by the barbecue section one day, and an employee struck up a conversation about a couple of different smokers and spice blends. It was evident that it wasn't just conversation to him as he knew his stuff and it was great to share a moment with somebody that could actually help me. Easy to find and ample parking. This place is truly a hidden gem in Maple Valley. I highly recommend Johnson's. read more

This is, by far, the weirdest hardware store I've ever been in. LOVE IT! I ended up here over a year ago by sheer chance. I was in the area for lunch and decided to pop my head in to see what they had. Everything. This hardware store has everything. Very nice garden section overall and a nice selection of pond care needs/plants/decor. Love the Koi pond in the back!! They also have a very nice selection of bird/squirrel feeders and all the related food you'd see along with that. From there I just started walking down the aisles the first time I came. If you have a DIY project and are having a hard time finding something, come to Johnson's because there's an incredibly good chance they're going to have that weird piece you're looking for! Highly knowledgeable employees, as well. I consulted one of them for a plumbing job and he not only had some great ideas how to fix my problem, he knew exactly where to find the pieces, while also explaining it in a manner that allowed me to get the job done. Back in the day I'd go around to different stores, not find what I want, and end up at McLendon's (which is also funky and has its place in the world). Now? It's a little bit of a drive for me, but if I need something I know is unusual Johnson's is my first and only stop! read more

I really enjoy having a locally owned hardware store. They really do have a little bit of everything which can sometimes make it difficult to find what you need. If you need help finding said item the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. They have some cute home decor for indoors and outdoors. I have come across the occasional employee that wasn't exactly rude but were very short and wouldn't let me finish my question. However it's only happened twice with a smaller older lady, I haven't seen her in a while so... The also, have a large variety of sodas and snacks near the checkout that sometimes leads to impulse buys of tasty snacks. Because they are local the prices tend to be higher than Lowe's or Home Depot but we enjoy supporting our local business. It's usually our go to hardware store! Our go to local little home improvement center. Have always had a good experience with staff here. They repaired our chainsaw which has been working great ever since. They always have the little things we need and we pretty regularly pick up some bird seed too. Enjoy the mom and pop feel vs a Home Depot but have no problem shopping both. This is a terrific store. I have been shopping at the Johnsons for over 15 years. They have a little of everything, with an enormous section for screws, nuts, and bolts. Their outside garden center has a great selection roses during the summer. The store hires some very knowledgeable people. I sometimes run into issues with my home projects and they can usually locate an employee that has extensive knowledge in whatever I am working on that knows exactly the tools / products I need to get the job done right. I appreciate that if needed, I can shop online and get a curbside delivery. They are pretty quick to fill my orders (I keep them limited to just a few higher priced items) and I have been using that service when COVID came out as well as during the Omicron outbreak. read more

Several days ago I returned to Johnson's for some hardware. On my prior visit to hardware, Lisa was working and she tried to locate a strap/device to hold furniture to the wall in case of earthquake, but they did not have what I was looking for ( very unusual at Johnson's!). When I returned to the store a couple days later for some hardware items and I again was greeted by Lisa. When I described what I needed, Lisa immediately took me to the appropriate shelves and located exactly what I needed. My husband and i have spent thousands of dollars there over the last 30 yrs, but no more. Today my hubby went to Johnson's to get propane. He was wandering around rhe store because they are changing their stock around. He had a can of barbeque rub in his hand and noticed a policeman following him. He went over to the policeman and asked him why. The policeman told him it was because my hubby was wandering around with a can of rub in his hand and didn't have a basket. My husband is 73 yrs old and was clean and dressed in jeans and a shirt. If Johnson's has so much theft they need to harrass senior citizens when they shop there, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I called this store explaining that I had a blank key fob that I wanted to have cut, and the person on the phone assured me that it wouldn't be a problem and they can cut the key for me. They even asked if I needed to re-code the blank key to match the vehicle, and I told them that wasn't necessary. When I got to the store, the employee inside states that they do not/have never cut customer keys, only keys that are sold at the store. I asked, and they do not sell key fobs, just all metal door keys. Very poor customer communication/training all around, I had to go elsewhere disappointed. read more

I related to the woman who was so upset that her 73 year old husband was followed around by the store cop as I'm 74 and wonder around just like him, usually a store employee will come up to me and ask if they can help me as I always look confused and lost. I'm always grateful for the help as they save me a lot of time, usually have a cart though as it gives me something to hold and steady me on my feet. In this new world we live in now that they have taken God out of the schools and government, shop lifting is seen as a right instead of a sin, don't blame them for keeping an eye on you as everyone doesn't know you. It's my favorite store and haven't found any other store that is as helpful and knowledgeable about everything. read more

This place has earned 2.5 stars in my book. Selection is limited on many items. It's more of a small, neighborhood hardware store. Sometimes I find a knowledgeable worker (like the gentleman in the garden center) but sometimes the only worker I can find is an older lady who knows nothing about slug bait. Tonight, I got there a few minutes before closing (pretty sad about loosing my keys)... and the cashier was unwilling/ unable to make me a car key because it takes a few minutes for the electric ones. I guess she can't work a minute past closing. :( read more

This place is so overwhelming. Spent 20 minutes just taking a lap around the store to see everything they have. I don't think they missed a thing. Paint, flooring, cables, auto care, patio furniture, a huge garden department, wood.... I think they have every home remodeling product available. The aisles are cram packed full from the floor all the way to the top of the displays. I didn't see a single empty spot in the entire store besides the walkways. Quick and convenient, located in 4 Corners across the street from Fred Meyer. Very large store, pretty new. Big parking lot, no issue finding a spot. They have free popcorn when you walk in the door, yay! My only two issues with this place: 1. Customer service. I know I'm young and I don't look like the typical customer in a hardware store....buttttt I just bought a house and I was in looking at buying a TON of stuff for the place, as my boyfriend and I plan on gutting and remodeling the house top to bottom. So. Just because I am young, don't look over me to talk to the older gentleman who looks like he is there for business. I am too. I still work hard and make my money, and I was looking to spend it here. 2. PRICES. They are sooooooo high! Very expensive for my taste - definitely would suggest heading down to Home Depot or even Fred Meyer for some of the basic stuff you need. read more

This place is great. Locally owned and managed, great selection, super friendly people. They are a Stihl dealer and have a huge selection. Everyone wore masks, they require masks, they provide complimentary masks as well as hand sanitizer. i needed a scribe to make lines for drilling stainless steel. so . on my way past, i stopped by the greatest hardware store in the World. they were out of carbide tippedscribes, but they had one made of tool steel which i bought. it worked, im very impressed with the knowledgable staff, the selection is great, and people are friendly. the only problem is i always have to ask where im going to find things. they have that much in inventory. take my word for it. if Johnson's dont have it. you dont need it. read more
