Eating at this place necessitated me writing my first ever review. I had been on a eight day binge across the lower part of these beautiful United States so I had a very solid reference from which to relate my bbq experience here. The service? Unparalleled. Our waitress was a nice young lady that did not take exception from us being from out of town, and not familiar with some of the fare. I am not sure how this has two dollar signs because they had a full meal pulled pork sandwich option for under six dollars and a rib plate dinner for a few more. Both included two sides. Absolutely unheard of from my perspective. The peach cobbler - delicious with home made ice cream. Under three bucks for that. If this place was in my city, I would eat here multiple times per week. Amazing food, amazing prices, amazing people and service. My wife, daughter and I stopped in on our way to Brunswick from Atlanta. We were looking for something relatively quick and my wife had spotted JOMAX in the past so we thought we'd give it a try. Nothing but disappointment for us. I ordered the half chicken plate with stew and slaw. The chicken was completely dried out and hard. It was scalding hot which clearly indicates it went in the microwave before it got to me. The stew was like no other Brunswick stew I've ever had before. It was more like a corned beef hash in both texture and flavor. The slaw very creamy and very sweet with a little tartness, the best thing on my plate after the Texas toast. The slaw did not seem like it was made in house. I got the feeling it was a Costco like slaw. We ordered fried green tomatoes which were good but horribly sliced. One was 1/2" thick at one side and tapered to nothing on the other. No care taken to make them uniform. Rock hard as well at that thickness. The honey mustard served with them was good. My daughter ordered a BLT. She said it was ok. My wife thought the same about her order of stew that I did. No resemblance to any stew we have tried. The staff was friendly and attentive so we left a good tip. We won't go back and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

AMAZING!! Saw this place from the road on our way to Hilton Head and decided to pop in! Firstly - the food was simple and good!! Pork was tender with just the right amount of BBQ sauce! but mainly the service was incredible - Ethan and Savannah were so lovely and chatted away to us seeing as we were visiting from Northern Ireland. First time yelp let me down. We stopped at this place because of the great reviews. The service is excellent, the ribs were ok, and the bbq was over cooked and dry. However, the main thing you need to know is that their sauce is based on vinegar. If you like this, you may like the place (may have just been a off day) but if you like sweet sauce, your out of luck. read more

I have had the pleasure of eating at Jomax twice. After a long car drive sitting down for some delicious BBQ pork with friendly, attentive staff. I highly recommend the pork - I'm sure everything on the menu is delicious but I've only tried the pork. It was so delicious the first time when I found myself back at Jomax I had to have it again. The green beans are great as is the fried okra and fried green tomatoes. My toddler loved the Mac and cheese and if I'm ever on 1-16 this is my stop! Brunswick stew tasted like canned vegetable soup, probably because they were using canned potatoes. I am a big fan of taters in my stew, but canned vegetables make for terrible product. Ruined the whole thing; I couldn't even finish the small portion they brought. Ordered a brisket and rib combo, they brought pulled pork and pulled beef. They brought me my two spare ribs, which were cooked in a firmer, competition style. They were okay, but not memorable. If you like a very tender rib, these would have disappointed you. A great roadtrip stop on our way from Savannah to Atlanta. We saw this place randomly and the reviews looked great so we tried it. The feel is very homey. Service was fast and the food was straight up homestyle bbq. We had a great experience and I HIGHLY suggest purchasing some baked goods at the cash register. My fiancee and I LOVED the blueberry bar. I was on my way to Jekyll Island Memorial Day weekend for my nephew's wedding, and looking for some inexpensive local fare. Well, I received a call from my cousin who was three hours ahead of us, telling us to stop at Jomax for some BBQ. Of course, we were skeptical because restaurants located next to a bunch of gas stations and convenience stores aren't typically that great. Ummm, wrong! This was some of the best BBQ I've ever had in my life! The people were nice, restaurant was clean, and even the sides were incredibly tasty. Super friendly service and yummy barbecue, sides and dessert. We stopped in on our way to SC on a Sunday afternoon and the employees were very attentive and working hard to prepare our food. The Mac and Cheese was yummy and the fried green tomatoes were scrumptious!!! It's an easy on and off the interstate and certainly beats the chain restaurants! They have yummy baked goods available from a local bakery that are definitely worth trying if you can manage to have any room left after the super generous portions of barbecue and sides! Located behind the Parker's gas station, Jomax BBQ may be a bit hard to find. But, once you see the propane tank pig you'll know you hit pay dirt. A fantastic little place with food to match. The menu is the standard BBQ fare - pork, brisket, steak and burgers. Regular sides - okra, squash, mac & cheese, fries, etc. My Jumbo pork sandwich was tender with a bit of spicy sauce on a soft bun. The Brunswick Stew was thick and tasty. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can see why the locals call Jomax "home". Service was fast, parking was plenty. We totally stumbled into Jomax's by happy accident when we pulled off I-16 for gas on a recent trip. Wow...the food was pretty damn good. We had the Texas burger which was a patty, cheese, BBQ pork, and an onion ring on Texas toast. It was a heart attack on a plate, but it was delicious. We went a second time a few weeks later and ended up having a waitress that was quite scatter-brained. Took a while to get our order and then messed it up, not bringing all the correct things out. Only one fill up of drinks, but I noticed the waitresses were chatting in a back corner, on their cell phones, and gossiping about someone they both disliked. There were only maybe four tables when we were there and we knew that with it being so slow, they were out of sync and not paying as much attention as when we had been there previously and it had been slammed...and the service was excellent. Because the food is so good, we'll give it another shot, but manager...come on...have staff check the cell phones at the door and not focus on Facebook gossip and drama and instead keep our sodas and teas filled while we eat your yummy food. Very disappointed in the food at Jo Max. I had the spare ribs and mom had the Baby back. The were dry and smelled like they'd been sitting there a while. The service however was outstanding, friendly and fast. Fries were good, the coleslaw was ok, baked beans seemed poured out of a can. The Brunswick stew was cold and also had a funky smell. The fried green tomatoes were ok. We stopped on the way back to Jax from Atlanta, had a great experience at the other BBQ place there (papa Buck) but they were closed on Monday.
