we stayed here from July 3 through July 7. The hotel is adorable. It kind of brings you back into the 1920s with a modern twist. The rooms are spotless. The lobby is beautiful and the decor absolutely amazing. The staff was also nothing short of friendly. They helped us with checking in and asked us if we needed anything and made sure we were well taken care of. The location of this hotel is quiet and has a cute spot to sit outside. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in this area. Also, the restaurant attached to the hotel is nothing short of amazing. The food was exquisite and the prices were reasonable. Where to start. Stayed here for a week. It's quite and quaint, however the rooms are musty and have small fruit flies. Avoid Joanne at front desk. I asked her about some towels that were stolen from me and are had a meltdown. Manny is great when you talk to him but NEVER gets back to people. My perspective on this place may be different than the average visitor, and I'd have preferred to give a 3.5 rather than a 4, but I didn't want to drag the average down. My first impression was that this place has seen better days, which made me wary. Fortunately when I entered my room the linens and bedding looked very clean, all bathroom fixtures looked very clean, and the carpet looked clean. The room smelled fresh, and I felt confident that housekeeping does a good job. I was surprised by the excellent pillows. If that's good enough for you, then I can recommend the hotel. There are some potential dealbreaker's though, that I feel obligated to mention for those with different expectations. Several cosmetic repairs are needed in the room I was in, and the shower was VERY small. The steps up to the rooms are the type where your whole foot barely fits (not great if you have mobility issues). The heating system was very noisy, and so were the guys across the hall for a little while. If you're just looking for a place to sleep that doesn't break the bank, this is a good option. I wouldn't tell my 70something year old parents to stay here nor would I make this a romantic destination. All those factors considered, I would stay here again when I have to spend a night or two in the area. read more

My wife and I spent an evening at the JBH while visiting others on LI. The hotel has a pleasant yesteryear feel to it. Not at all like chain hotels or roadside motels and is also located in a residential area. The staff was very pleasant and our room was quite comfortable. There is also a large park with an entrance right behind the hotel that is terrific for walking, jogging or biking. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area. read more

JUST DON'T! The building is old and dingy, and the stair cases are steep and narrow. There is no elevator. The air conditioner was way too small for the room and could not keep up. This is the kind of place that you need to experience to believe. Enter through a room filled with ornate decor, I mean, angels, dolls, gold *everywhere*. You may wonder what you're in for. The front room is a bit... funeral parlor-like. Although the decor is not at all my thing , you kind of just have to go with it. The food is good. And the owner is extremely gracious. Other reviews have remarked on the history of this being in the old Jones Beach Hotel, around the turn of the century when Jones Beach was way more of a destination for city dwellers. As a kid/teen, what was my then huge Italian family would gather here when it was under different ownership for special occasion dinners, so the space has some nostalgia for me (funny thing is that as a teen, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming. So it goes...) I can't say they've updated it, but the decor isn't as home-spun (yet it is kind of home-spun... if, say you grew up Gotti). The service is a bit formal as in an older gentleman waiter and a silent bread-giver lady whose role I wasn't sure of. I, for one, appreciate a more down to earth approach. I felt like I had to be extra careful not to offend. No, I left that up to my dad who demanded of the Greek owner, "Why don't you own a diner?" *grrrrroan* Luckily as I said before, she's very nice and didn't seem annoyed at all. I'm pretty sure my dad pissed the waiter off, though. Dads... On to the food, as I mentioned earlier, it's quite good. Red sauce joint this is not, but the classics are here and the special list is long and very meat-oriented. Not a whole lot for vegetarians/those looking to avoid cream sauces, but I found a primavera pasta featuring veggies sauteed in garlic and oil. And I do mean featured!!! I was so happy when the plate appeared because instead of it being mainly pasta with a couple veggies and tons of oil, it's just the opposite. Very fresh. Very light. Perfect. The arugula salad is good, lightly dressed, but I think a bit pricy for what it is (not very seasoned at all). That's not all folks! After your plates are cleared, the bus boy appears with this extravagant dessert tray... it's almost as over-the-top as the bombastic keyboard player banging out the classical music without pause. We ordered espresso, which comes served with a bottle of sambucca... gratis. Also appreciated the gratis fresh fruit plate and liqueur chocolates. I do recommend Per Un Angelo for the kind of experience that was once "Par For the Course" on Long Island and Queens. Oh!! Make sure you find the bathrooms because you get to see the old hotel lobby. Strangely enough, I think it's an operating hotel because there's a front desk clerk behind the old fashioned window. If you stay here they treat you like family. I stay here regularly for business so there is going to be a maintenance issue once in awhile buy they fix it immediately. Great Italian restaurant on the premises but be aware hours vary. There is a very large park behind the hotel which even has an outdoor roller rink. 24 hour convenience store about 1/2 a mile away. read more

Clean and comfortable. Front desk is great. No idea why the hot and cold water lines are reversed, but it means the water in the toilet is hot and the cold water is on the left side of the sink. Dine amongst the Angels... Per Un' Angelo is located in a way off the beaten path location. The building that houses the restaurant is the old Jones Beach hotel- and by old, I mean old as in when they built the hotel, there was actually water behind it. These days there is a huge park built on a landfill - and killing the hotel business in the process no doubt. Apparently the hotel still operates as a hotel and Per Un' Angelo is located on the main floor. As the name implies, Angels are the theme of the place - maybe the owners are repenting for something or are just plain religious or perhaps have an Angel fetish? Who knows! You will run a gauntlet of Angels in every shape and size when entering the foyer of the place though. The main dining room is nicely done with cream colored walls and more Angels dotted throughout the room. The menu is, for the most part, Italian. The specials were interesting as described by our waiter. The food is quite good - I would rate it towards the better end of the spectrum of Italian but wouldn't go as far as saying it was incredible. The prices are actually very modest for the portions you receive. The wine list is extensive - in fact I was having a little trouble making up my mind when the waiter suggested a nice Cabernet and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The crowd is on the older side - but don't let that stop you from trying it. The wait staff was phenomenal- they really did an excellent job from start to finish. I lived at this hotel for nearly two years. There was a hole in my bathroom floor and shower ceiling. I paid $475/wk. The carpet is old and dingy. The furniture was too big for the room. And I could barely walk between the bed and the fridge with the 6 in gap. OH, and the tall Mexican American guy whose name is Manny and is a receptionist is an Alt-Right pile of trash who constantly said 'NIGGER' around me, and told me that since I was white, I benefit from it. I think the place was named after a lost child named angela, or so i read. hidden south of merrick rd. amongst meandering roads lay a neighborhood in suburbia which houses a little hotel in the middle of a residential neighborhood called jones beach hotel. the restaurant sits in it's lobby, unassuming & barely noticeable. decked out in angels ala christmas tree topper coupled with an old guy in the dark corner playing mobster hits from yesteryear on a double-decker casio gives this northern italian cuisine restaurant a queens feel - glitz & tack, yet familiar. we both ordered the appetizer specials of the night - 3 sausage (hot, sweet & chicken) in escarole & garlic which was tasty, and oysters which was fresh, juicy & delicious. for dinner i had the scallops with veggies which was pretty good paired with a bottle of fetzer chardonnay. my husband had the fettucini bolognese, which he thought was simply satisfactory. for dessert we had the creme bruleé that was more creme than anything - different yet smooth & creamy, and the chocolate mousse - rich & decadent. all in all, it was a very nice italian meal a tad over priced for dinner for two. the service was impeccable. very attentive, courteous, pleasant & polite. 3 stars for food 5 stars for service 2 stars for ambience read more

Let me get this out of the way: the staff is super friendly and the beds are comfortable. However... The hotel itself is about three decades past due for a gut renovation. The rooms are tiny and damp, the bathrooms are also very small, and their room rates are too high for what you get. My girlfriend and I stayed the weekend, (at $150 per night) as we were seeing a show at the Nikon amphitheater. The hotel is pretty convenient if you're wanting to get to Jones Beach, (be prepared to pay $26 for a 5-mile cab ride) but I just wish they'd update the damn place. The lobby feels like a '70s funeral parlor. I'll give this place three stars only because of the staff. When we checked out, one of them drove us to the train station gratis. read more

Some of the most helpful and friendly staff I've ever encountered at a hotel! This family owned and operated hotel made us feel like family too by the time we left. Terry got us to and from the hotel and Jones Beach Amphitheater on back to back nights, and made multiple trips out to the venue well past midnight to make sure that no guests were left behind. On each trip he met us with smiles and good music, and it really felt more like a friend lending a hand than it did a hotel shuttle service. We stayed up pretty late both nights we were there, and although we kept the volume at a reasonable level most hotels would frown upon this. But Terry once again met us with a smile and a tray of ice waters in the wee hours! The building's a bit dated, but don't let the first impression fool you. The place was kept clean, we were kept comfortable, the rates were reasonable, and we were treated like friends and family. I hope to have the pleasure of staying there again next time we're in town! read more

This place is great. I came here with my boyfriend one day after we were at Jones Beach (it was the first thing that came up when we searched "Italian" that was the closest drive lol). Don't be turned off by how the place looks on the outside because I can assure you that it's a great place! The people here are so friendly. Emphasis on the friendly part because I've never been in a restaurant where everyone (owner, waiter, waitresses, bartender) treat you like a family even if it's your first time there. After being seated, the waiter even got out an extra chair just for my bag to sit on. Okay, you are literally surrounded by angels everywhere here. There are paintings/drawings of angels everywhere that you look. I thought this was kind of creepy, but it's the theme of the restaurant. The lighting also creates a nice ambiance. The food is delicious and not really on the expensive side either. Their portions are quite large? Not really sure, but it did fill me up. I will definitely come back one day. When my husband and I first found this place, we kept it as a secret neighborhood treasure between us for romantic dinners for just the two of us. We were there @ a month ago and my and husband really enjoyed our stay from the quaint room to the superb meal at their Italian restaurant. Everything was delicious we started with a Buffalo Mozzarella Caprese Salad with a Basalmic Reduction and Beef Carpachi. Their cocktails, entrees, and deserts were exceptional!! The establishment felt like you stepped back in time and they already did their own renovations and still is a work in process. The bed was comfortable and a clean room (that's my main concerns when I book a room). I think if you only except snobby Ritz Carlton Hotels this isn't for you--but that is your loss you will be missing a gem of a place. I just found this place charming and full of character. However, on entering we discovered a tear in the fabric of history. A 90 year old hotel returned to her glory. And while we could mention the menu, it would be an injustice to the Chef. For Valentine's Day 2015, my wife and I were looking for a nice place restaurant to go to. A few weeks before, we saw an advertisement for Dinner Dance at Per Un' Angelo. The price at $59 seemed reasonable. The menu included lobster with a picture of a lobster as well as glass of champagne and rose for each lady. They had an option for $15 for unlimited drinks. When we arrived for dinner we knew we were in for a strange night by the sight of balloons on the tables. How tacky. After waiting 15 minutes for a table we reserved for 8:00pm we finally got a seat. The table was wobbly and in a terrible spot. After looking around we were shocked to see that almost everyone was over the age of 70. It was straight out of the movie cocoon. My wife never got her rose nor her glass of champagne as promised. We waited an excruciating 30 minutes to place or order. I advised I wanted the lobster and the waiter advised lobster was not on the menu. I showed him the advertisement that latterly said the word lobster and showed a picture of a lobster. He apologized and advised they must of changed the menu since the advertisement. I was very upset but at this point and should have simply left the place as it was a precursor to the rest of the evening. I included picture of advertisement. After my wife placed her order and I placed mine for a steak, I gave or drink orders. The waiter said we have to wear wrist bands if we get the drink package and all drinks must be picked up at the bar by ourselves. Another shock. We pay $59 plus $15 for drinks and have to walk to bar for drinks on Valentine's day and wear wrist bands from an amusement park. Not exactly classy. 45 minutes later we finally received my steak which tasted terrible and there were almost no vegetables. I seriously only received about a quarter of a potato. We wanted out of the place so badly. We tried for 20 minutes to flag down the waiter to ask for our deserts to go. It took another 25 minutes to get the desert. Plus another 20 minutes to get the check. I paid in cash, since it probably would have been another 30 minutes to use a credit card. Stay away from this place. Atmosphere is terrible. Service is terrible. Food is terrible. Worst they simply don't care about customers. To sum it up, my wife even told me, she probably would have broken up with me if this I took her here while we were dating. read more

I've been coming here for 12 years, at least once a month, and I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. My personal favorite the Veal Columbo. This melt in your mouth veal is in a light cream sauce that will have you looking for more bread to soak up every ounce. The restaurant lately seems to have a new energy ,and the owner Ellie makes you feel so welcomed and appreciated that you feel more like family , than a customer. So even after the hair fiasco of '13, we decided to come back. Went here a few times, and it's been hit or miss. But we like the fact there is live entertainment, and the people are friendly. But here is why we can't come back. We went here on Sunday, September 19th. We sat down at the table at 11:30 or so. A gentlemen comes over and gives us menus and explains they don't open until 1PM - but as far as he's concerned, the kitchen is here, he's here, so we're good. That was very cool of him, and that is the reason they get their only star. The three of us had apps, entrees and dessert, along with 3 bottles of wine. I started with a prosciutto app, it was one of the specials. I've been eating prosciutto for a long time, we used to have it hanging in the garage (long story) when I was a kid - I love the stuff. What they served should not be called prosciutto. I've never seen anything like it - texture, taste, it was awful. I went with the Chicken Marsala for my entrée. Gummy and tasteless. Not a good decision. Of the 6 appetizers and entrees, only my Dad's veal chop was served right. It was actually spectacular. But the other 5 were embarrassingly bad. Dessert was fine, I like the fun tray thing they have. Wasn't memorable, but we weren't disappointed either. The bill, with tip, came out to $385. But that's not the issue. They couldn't find any of the wines we asked for. As one of our second wines, we picked out a $35 bottle. The women couldn't find it, so she comes back with a $65 bottle. We explain that we're prefer a cheaper price point - she went ahead an opened the bottle. English wasn't a strong point, is what it is, we didn't want to cause a scene so we just laughed it off and drank it. The 3rd bottle was another $35 dollar bottle, but when we got the bill it was listed as $65. We pointed it out, and the bottle price was apparently listed incorrectly in the computer. But with all this, we're still not at the issue. We were here for about 2 hours on a Sunday. Only one other table was taken. 3 apps, 3 entrees, 3 desserts, 3 bottles of wine, 2 sodas, 2 coffees, the waiter mistakenly spilled water on us, and had we not brought it to their attention we would have been over-charged $30 for a bottle of wine - and with all that there was not a single buy-back. Not one. One of two tables there on a Sunday, spent $385, and no "here is a coffee on us", or maybe offer a dessert, a round of drinks? Great way to lose a customer. Let me know how many other people come in for lunch and spend that much at a table for 3. read more

A nice little resturant, overlooking the beach across the way. We were 10 people and I have to say for my first time there, it was good. The place is very "homy" and not to big. Its a perfect getaway. The waite staff was very prompt and curtious. We ordered a variety of first course meals and second course meals. Everthing came out hot and well garnished. At first, I was skeptical of this place. It's outdated, a bit run-down, and at $150 a night, seemed too expensive. There was no coffeemaker in the room, the wifi didn't work, and the decor was definitely right out of "The Shining". However... The A/C worked great, the room was clean, it smelled nice, the bed was very comfortable, and it was wonderfully quiet. The fellow at the desk was friendly, polite, and helpful. We even met the owner, a thoroughly charming Greek grandmother who made us feel very welcome. In fact, we had quite a long conversation and learned a lot about the hotel as well as her own fascinating history. She's a poet, a singer, and also runs the attached restaurant. (It looked interesting, although we did not eat there) This place, built in the 1920s, is part of a vanishing species: the small, family-run hotel. I decided not to judge it against the big chain motels, because it's simply not the same thing. Apples and oranges. Recommended if you enjoy stepping off the beaten path and finding the charm in a funky place. We did, and it was a good experience. read more

How anyone can give this dump more than one star is beyond belief. There is no one single positive thing to say about this place it is in disrepair, old, run down and close to falling down. Imagine the worst hotel you have ever stayed at and multiply it by 1000. The only "guests" stayin there are the ones that saw the website and though it might be a cute boutique hotel. It's more of a boarding house for degenerates. There are not enough words to describe how bad this is. Garage sale furniture. No closet. No ice machine. No coffee. Cheeky warped floors.
