And to top it off, depite advertising a free mystery gift with the order, nothing was included. Incredibly dissapointing and i will never order again. Misleading clothes, and the operation seems very disorganized. A total waste of money.

I chose The Tailory to create a custom bridal jumpsuit after being assured they could replicate a…read morespecific design, provide 5-6 fittings (or as many as needed), and deliver the finished garment well before my wedding. The idea was to replicate the top of a dress I'd tried on and make it a jumpsuit with wide leg pants. I first met with them in October of 2025 for my Memorial Day 2026 wedding. Unfortunately, the experience was defined by delays, broken promises, poor communication, and a lack of accountability. At my first fitting in January, I was shown a test garment that looked nothing like the reference photo. I was assured that once the corset structure was added, it would match the approved design. At my March fitting with the actual fabric, the top still looked nothing like the reference, and I was again told that additional structural work would make it look exactly as promised by the next appointment. They routinely delayed appointments, and when I expressed concern about not having enough time to complete the outfit on time, they assured me that we were on track. However, when I returned in May--after additional delays and with my wedding only three weeks away-- literally no progress had been made. Even simple work I had specifically been told would be complete, such as lining the pants, had not happened. In hindsight, the multiple fittings and test garment served little purpose because the top design was clearly never developed correctly from the beginning. Rather than fittings showing incremental progress, I spent months being told that the next fitting would finally make it resemble the reference photo. In fact, no progress was actually being made. At my final fitting, weeks before my wedding and 7 MONTHS after our first meeting, I was told that the employee who had been handling my garment was no longer with the company and that they were starting over on the top. Despite having the exact reference photo that I had provided in October and that they had repeatedly assured me they could replicate, I was now being asked what I wanted the garment to look like. During the appointment, Shao cut off one of the straps to completely reshape the top and used Sharpie markings across the front to indicate future changes. She acknowledged we were starting from scratch. I was also told that the low back and low front shown in the reference design would require fashion tape or a tie across the back, despite the fact that I had been assured from the beginning that the design could be recreated as shown. The top design was supposed to replicate the top of a dress I had tried on that required no such support. When I expressed concern that my wedding was only weeks away, I was again told that this timeline and process was normal. Dylan and Shao explained that they had been away and that this contributed to their lack of oversight, yet afterward Dylan claimed in writing that "we've had multiple conversations throughout this process regarding timing and progress." In reality, I had not spoken with Dylan since my initial consultation 7 months earlier. The next fitting appointment they offered me was almost two weeks later. There would literally be no time to spare between this next appointment and my wedding if the top was not completed to perfection. I paid for the garment in full when it was commissioned in October based on the representations made during the consultation. Looking back, that should have been a warning sign. None of the key promises regarding the design, timeline, or fitting process were provided in writing, and when problems arose, I was directed instead to terms of service buried at the bottom of the company's website. At this point it was looking like I might not have anything to wear at my wedding, and I was forced to find another outfit off the rack two weeks before my wedding. The Tailory refused to let me out of my contract or issue a refund. I have since spoken to multiple vendors in the industry to inquire if this process is "normal" and all have listened to my story in sympathy and horror. Some said that sometimes unavoidable issues come up with tight deadlines, but in those cases they work round the clock to deliver the completed garment with at least two weeks to spare. Even if some of the issues stemmed from a former employee, my contract was with The Tailory, and the company never accepted responsibility for failing to deliver what was promised or even issue an apology for the stress they caused. They treated me like my expectations were unreasonable, and I was to blame. I was able to secure a refund through my credit card company, but The Tailory made the process difficult by disputing my claim. After a thorough investigation, Visa did eventually find in my favor. I cannot recommend The Tailory and encourage others to steer clear.

When I showed up to try on my custom-made suits, they were clean as a whistle and fit me to a t. Being a perfectionist, he still wanted to make a couple small tweaks to make them fit even more perfectly. What can I say, Carmen is the best. So I did some research for a local tailor and decided to give Vihan a try based on the reviews. What I found was an institution of over 50 years in North Jersey. Vihan Custom Tailors was exactly what I was searching for in a custom shop. First and foremost, Joe was super welcoming and gregarious. I explained I needed a tux for an upcoming wedding and outlined my timing. He was helpful and very accommodating. If I had a dollar for every time Joe said "no problem" to any of my requests, it would have paid for the tux! Just by looking at me, he brought me to the rack with my size to get a good fit. The quality of the jackets was immediately noticeable. All of the blazers were stylish. The process was quick and painless. Next, Joe showed me around the store so I could see the rest of their dapper inventory. We added a shirt and a couple accessories and I was on my way. When my tux came in, I met Vihan, the founder and tailor of the shop. During the fitting, I watched a master in action. My body is on the stockier side so I'm always concerned about the fit of suits. Vihan assured me it wouldn't be an issue. After the fitting, I asked Joe if one of the blazers I liked the previous visit could be ready with my tuxedo on short notice for the rehearsal dinner. As usual, Joe's answer was "no problem!" When the tuxedo and blazer came in I couldn't be happier. I love the quality of the tux. It immediately stood out for the premium material and intricate stitching. Vihan & his team did a fantastic job with the alterations, including to my shirt. The tuxedo was form-fitting and not boxy. I was ecstatic with the fit. During the wedding festivities, I was extremely excited about how well the blazer and the tuxedo looked and felt. Both outfits stood out; especially the tux in a sea of tuxes. Needless to stay I will be going to Vihan for all of my menswear and tailoring needs in the future. I recently splurged for a bespoke suit from another tailor and paid a hefty sum for it. Ercole is a less expensive way to make a beautiful suit. I met with Frank and he recommended Vitale Barberis Canonico fabric. The fabric is fabulous, and way less expensive than Zegna or Loro Piana. You'll get to choose the lining and buttons as well. My suit was crafted in just five weeks, and it looks great. I was so impressed that I ordered a blazer made from Reda fabric. My blazer looks great as well. I plan to have another suit crafted from Charles Clayton fabric later on this year.

Here is what you get when you order a custom suit from Mr. Ned:…read more Varham, son of the founder Ned, takes your measurements and quizzes you gently about what sort of suit you have in mind. They will make you any sort suit you want -- there isn't an enforced house style -- although Varham will steer you away from any utterly wrongheaded decisions. The measurements are applied to a pre-existing block pattern that best matches the cut you've specified. Second fitting is with just the basted body of the jacket to allow for significant alterations. Final fitting has the collar and sleeves already set, the trousers completed, with just the buttonholes and fine tweaking remaining. Total turnaround time is roughly 6-8 weeks; total cost using standard super 100/120 fabric is $850; functioning sleeve buttons and hand finishing along the lapel will run you $50 a piece. This is not true custom/bespoke given that they are working off an existing pattern. That said, I have to imagine they're drawing from a great multitude of proprietary patterns in order to accommodate all the sizes and shapes coming through their door. Moreover, all work is done on the premises, and the owner takes the measurements personally and shepherds your suit through every stage of production. In my mind, that's about as close as you're going to get to custom at a price that's remotely affordable without a finance job. Now am I happy with my first suit from Mr. Ned? Frankly, I am a tiny bit ambivalent. On the plus side: the trousers are fantastic and are perfect not just in fit but are of a piece with the ensemble. The back of the jacket and the sleeves exhibit terrific fit and drape. Finally, the lapel has a kind of graceful flow that says, "I am wearing a custom made garment!" to anyone sensitive to this strain of vanity. My criticism involves a rather imperfect drape to the sides and a lack of polish in the details due to the garment being largely machine made (although all the critical components like the sleeves are set by hand). At my final fitting, Varham pointed out this was my first suit with them. Implicitly the second suit would be an improvement, at least in the fit department. For most readers, $850 is a lot to spend on something that is only the first step towards a perfect fitting suit. For me, it's justifiable in that I wear suits for work constantly. I require a garment that is not only truly comfortable, but can withstand the wear and tear of NYC life; my suit is made from 14 oz Scabal Super 100 which is some pretty tough wool - it feels like a military uniform. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I wear my Mr. Ned suit more than any other. I feel more confident, thinner, smarter, etc. It's hard to put a price on materialistically driven self-worth, right? More objectively, Mr. Ned is widely regarded as the best game in town for custom suits under a $1,000. He knows his craft, delivers the goods on time, and makes the garments in NYC. I can't think of anyone else that can even come close to offering that kind of value for money. Cool Trivia: Mr. Ned is the preferred tailor of film director Wes Anderson and made all the suits for the Royal Tenembaums.

The first suit I had made turned out too boxy for my taste, but I recognize that as my fault since I was new to the custom clothing world and simply didn't know what I wanted well enough to express my opinion on the matter. That said, there were construction problems that rest on Ned's shoulders. Most notably, the lapel was not sewn properly and so there are dramatic, unsightly ripples at the notch. Also, despite being boxy, the jacket is incredibly uncomfortable. I can not wear it for mroe than thirty or forty minutes while working at the computer without cramping in my upper back. This suit sits in my closet and I wear it maybe 2 times a year. The second suit I had made turned out better. This was because I was clear about my likes and dislikes with respect to the previous suit. While the cut is more to my liking, there were construction problems that really detract from the suit. Most notably, the suit came with a small hole in the crotch. Seriously. Also significant, the shoulders were cut differently and so the whole thing doesn't look uniform. Arg. I wear this suit when I want to look decent, but don't care if something bad happens to my clothes. (i.e., I might wear it to a wedding reception where it is likely to have a drink spilled on it, but never to a fancy dinner or an interview) Less you think they get better the more you work with them. The third suit was a total disaster. The sleeves were opened for buttons then inexplicably sewn all the way shut. The sleeves were attached in such a way to make me look like a zombie while wearing it. The fit was a weird combination of boxy and too tight. Literally unwearable. I simply gave the jacket away and now have one pair of very, very expensive suit pants. For labor-friendly alternatives try Martin Greenfield in Brooklyn or Samuelson made suits from Paul Stuart.

He more than exceeded our expectations. Frank came to my apartment in the city to measure and fit us, spending 3 hours with us going over every detail. I was impressed. Upon completion (which was exactly on the time he gave us), he came back to the city for a second fitting to ensure everything fit perfectly. He made the necessary adjustments and had our 4 perfect suits back to us a week later. I am in the customer service industry and can confidently say that service does not get better.
