After paying $286 to a dishwasher repairman to install a new part, Jorge agreed to cover part of that cost by refunding $100 from what I had paid him. He looked at the units and gave me an estimate and got the deposit right away and also took a window screen with him to fix, but he never came back to do the work, kept lying every time I called him saying he was on his way to the property, but each time it was just a lie. He wasted 9 days of my time just before the inspection deadline so I had a hard time finding somebody else to do the job, he never returned the deposit payment nor the window screen and Cost me more damages and stress. Jorge helped me with a small quick project a couple weeks ago and that went fine. So I thought he could help with another small project. Moving a stackable washer/dryer into another room and hooking it up and taking out the washer/dryer combo to the curb. I asked him if he had an appliance dolly and moving blankets and he said yes. He asked for $350 I negotiated to half that. He asked for full money right away. I Venmo'd him the money and the next day he came with a hand truck and a bed sheet. He didn't know what an appliance dolly was. His hand truck didn't look good either. He didn't moving blankets were either. These items help protect the item and hone and the movers. Makes things easier and safer. I don't know why he didn't ask some follow up questions. He didn't do the job. He said he's mostly an electrician. I just reread his Yelp that says he's an all encompassing handyman. I guess that is inaccurate. He said he would return my money by end of day. End of day he said he'd pay the next day. He said he already spent the money on his wife and kids. I have a family too so this excuse holds no water for me. So it's now the next day and I still havent been refunded. Not only that but he is getting angry with me for asking for my money. I texted him that I was about to write a Yelp review. He called me said I'd get paid today. When I asked when he didn't answer just said "do what you have to do" and he hung up on me. But I heard him say "Jesus Christ!" Before he hung up. This is too bad. The in office process is very easy and takes about 20-30 minutes. Officer asks for some basic details on the theft / scam as well as details on the perp. Let's stop this guy from scamming others. Oh well, the handyman version of the "tinder swindler" is here! We are hustled and ripped off by this dishonest man. He left the job 70 percent undone, did impossible to reverse damage to us in three places, and he took the pre-paid money, keeps changing his stories aggressively, he totally abused my good faith, kindness, and trust. Just like you who's reading the review now, I found Jorge on Yelp. I liked the 5 STAR reviews so I sent a message. Then I got 7 missed calls from this number in one morning. So I thought : oh they guy's so responsive and eager, I should hire him just for this "hard working attitude". It turned out to be the worst nightmare. He came and gave me a quote of $800 to screw some simple stuff around the house, fill a couple holes on the floor and install a sign. Even though I feel $800 is a bit over-priced, he promised it to get it done in two times of visits within three days, so I thought it saves some hustle. And on the first day, he got paid $600 in good faith, with $200 due upon finish everything. But then Jorge is NEVER on time, he showed his face THREE times before he got fired (when I was promised TWO TIMES to get everything done), and every time he just did a little bit of the work because he said he needed to "show his face" at other clients so he gotta hurry to leave; and he installed one toilet rack on the wrong side of wall (onto the wall paper that is impossible for us to move around now), and he damaged more of our floor when filled up some hole that clearly needed a different type of material that every professional knows how. And every time he came, he was 2-4 hours late, and he came up with "oh I forgot this tool, oh I forgot that material, oh my sponge is used up, but please pay the rest of your fees now, you should actually pay more." Of course at that point, I turned down the request of paying him fully (he already got paid 75% of the fee) when he only completed 30% of the job, Jorge came to the house three times, but only spent ONE hour and a half total time here. ONE HOUR AND A HALF, WHAT IS THE MARKET RATE? So I told Jorge not to come back, to give him benefit of doubt just give us back $300, and we did not even request for the damages he has done. Jorge said okay, but he couldn't refund us now, he needed a couple days. And then a couple days turned into till the weekend, and then it turns into "asap" with no definite date. A simple amount turns into a series of installments and installment turns into smaller installments that are never on time. Jorge himself has never apologized for anything, and totally abused me being nice and patient for all this time. He totally lied and being entitled and rude, he told me he basically "told me" he would pay even he change his stories every time and he would stop replying my message and I do whatever "the hell" I want. So far he only paid back $150. It's like he acquired a "personal loan" lol how pathetic. Oh, a little cherry on top, before Jorge even showed up his face for first time, he called me saying he was late because something wrong with his truck. And then I received another call from him shortly, he asked me if I could Venmo him $20 for fixing his truck. I was confused, and I thought he called wrong number because we never even met yet. And then he said, "oh sorry". So now I started wondering that actually he was indeed asking me for 20 before he even show up his face for the job and then played along with my confusion knowing I would not do that. So he kept saying "he can't pay me for something he doesn't have." But when he takes, he takes a whole. And if all the good reviews are real, he's working so well and getting paid, why doesn't he have the petty cash to refund? Just let that sink in. And I wasn't the only one recently who experienced this, just scroll down. He may pick his victims selectively, but why take the chance right? If this happens to you, it's 100% on you. Jorge is incredible. I needed help with a door frame issue and reached out to multiple handymen...all said they were booked out weeks in advance and I was out of luck. Somehow, Jorge managed to squeeze me in the SAME-DAY that I reached out to him. The entire time he was super communicative, very responsible, cleaned up after himself, and he actually did the whole job TWICE just to make sure it was done to the best degree possible. He made sure to clean up after himself (you would've never known he was even there) and then at the last minute threw in a light-switch repair at a discount! I had a TV mounting job over my fireplace mantle with a Mantle Mount. It is a crazy contraption which lowers the TV from above the mantle down lower to eye level. It's about as complicated a TV mount as you can buy and Jorge was able to install it even though the instructions looked like he was putting together a nuclear reactor. So I reached out via yelp to a few, I got a response and a fair price from this one, and he told me he could get there the next day. I gave him a deposit for materials and scheduling. Then "All aboard, the excuse train!" Everyday for a week. One bit of bs after another. Looking deeper into the reviews I see a pattern of behavior and actual excuses, verbatim. Finally, he goes to do the work and demands more money to finish, using abusive offensive language. Classless! The work was amateur at best. Beware of this hack! He was able to come the same day we called him and he also did come back to reinstall the doors once the appliance had been installed. Jorge arrived when he said he would and was very professional, knowledgable, and polite. One of my doors is an old style door that they don't really make anymore as it is attached in a different way than a normal door and Jorge had no problem figuring out how to remove it and reinstall it. He also cleaned up after the job and made sure he didn't leave a mess behind. We also had him do some other odd jobs around the place such as fixing a cabinet, a jammed closet, and sanding down another door. He is very clean, caring, and competent. He was very respectful of my time, keeping me updated throughout the day of our appointment of his ETA. He installed shelves in a music studio. All the work is of excellent quality. I think Jorge is a nice guy, but my experience is that he's unreliable, does not do quality work, and collects money before the work, so I cannot recommend him for anything more than the simplest of work. I hired him to pry open some windows and he did fine there (prybar and hammer). He cut a closet rod and attached shelves and the rod. I also hired him to take out a wall air conditioner unit and put in the new one, but it turned out the new unit was smaller and his installation was a bit janky, leaving an angled wood beam visible. Finally I had him remove an old kitchen shelf and asked to put in new ones. He did the removal, but initially did not have the right size replacement shelf and had to get a new one. Here's where the trouble came--he didn't come on the day he said he would. We don't work from home, and I stayed home just to wait for him. Jorge said he was caught up in another job, which was the reason he gave for being late twice before. I called a the end of the day, unhappy because he asked for payment in full beforehand so I essentially paid and who knows when this guy would show up. He said he would come on another day, but I needed to leave at 2 pm and by 12 he still wasn't here. At this point I was understandably unhappy. He had the gall to yell at me on the phone, despite making my kitchen area out of service for a delay of a week. He finally showed up at 1 with a buddy who actually installed the shelves pretty well, but they didn't have time to finish. I needed to go in and patch the wall, and stain the rest of the shelves myself because I did not want to deal with scheduling with Jorge again. He is fine if you are home all the time and won't lose anything by waiting for him. I would advise not paying until he is done with the service, because I was so dissatisfied with how things turned out but there is now nothing I can do at this point. read more
