We have an old home that we've slowly been doing some repairs/updates on, and friends, let me tell you, finding trustworthy, honest, caring contractors that do beautiful, high-quality work is no small feat. That combo is hard to come by these days. I found William and his wonderful crew here on Yelp, and was excited to do our home improvement project with them. We needed repair of a water-damaged ceiling in a spare bedroom, along with some painting, to really freshen up the dated, not-very-cozy-look of the room. Not only did they stunningly repair/paint the room, they went above and beyond what we originally had planned. They encountered more severe cracks in our walls than anticipated, and spent more time and material repairing things properly. Now, I figured this, of course, would raise the amount on our invoice substantially; but when we received our bill from William, he charged us our originally agreed upon amount. William's moto is to not charge his clients more than what is agreed upon in advance, so there are no surprises. Talk about character and integrity! We were deeply touched by that and very appreciative. This is a rare thing in these times where prices seem to be soaring, yet the quality of the work is declining. So, thank you William (and Eleazar!) for taking such loving care of our personal space, and treating us with such respect and care. You are rare gems in these times! I wish that there was a higher rating than 5 stars because William would get it! He was fast, smart, efficient, well-versed, and easy to work with. My boss and I had originally just needed a set of barn doors installed in a master bedroom. After we saw how proficient he was we asked if he could do another set in the office. Upon asking him for a recommendation for a contractor to create a "built-in bookshelf" he let us know that he was completely able to do it and we quickly made a date to show him the sketch. Once he saw it he made a couple of professional suggestions, and got right to work. The bookshelf was beyond my boss's wildest dreams. William was just amazing. He took over the job left by another disastrous contractor to finish the remodel of our master bathroom. He did it only through whatsapp while we were abroad ! Now all the stress is just forgotten, it looks amazing and we just have 3 minor things to finish it fully. He was able to align the floor stones that were not aligned, to install the fixture while the connection were not flash and he had to open the wall again and re-installed everything, finish the mosaics, the electricity. I had an ongoing issue with a GFCI outlet in my garage tripping during rain or when my sprinkler system was on and reached out to Handy William. He responded to me both by text & voicemail less than 30 minutes later, requesting that I call him to provide details on the issue. He literally walked me through a potential very simple repair...re-caulking the cover of an outside outlet (a place I would have never looked). I re-caulked two small cracks. Later that day we were inundated with rain. My GFCI did not trip. Perhaps this was a unique repair job but I've never had someone walk me through a potential solution without first coming out and charging me for a service call. Two words: Tour de Force. Oh wait, that's three words. And I'd give him 10 stars if I could, because William is truly that amazing: A Silverlake resident who is able to masterfully accomplish home repairs and installations. I'm speaking from recent personal experience. William and his helper installed a window air conditioner at my place today and watching them work was like watching the pit crew from a Formula 1 race team -- fast, precise, and efficient. William's demeanor was super upbeat, courteous, professional, and very skilled. His communication was crystal clear and reliable. I'd trust him at any of my properties. (If I was the kind to admit that I had properties.) Why? Here are two reasons -- I wound up not needing the additional support shelf I'd purchased (even though installing it would have cost more) and the install was actually LESS than originally quoted. How often does that happen? Honesty is a beautiful thing. When they left (the entire install took 35 minutes), there was not a speck of dust out of place or a single remnant of the install, the packaging from the new unit...totally seamless, turnkey, and perfect. Word is that his 30+ year history as a hands-on general contractor means that he's also able to do much larger jobs as well. If need something done to your home, and you're either too busy to deal with it or it is beyond your ability, Handy William has my highest recommendation. UPDATE: I appreciate your response, but it is not a truthful one, at all. I did not leave a message after hours. Your hours say that you are available until 4pm. I called you at 12:04pm. See the screenshot for proof. Yes, we did leave separate reviews for you, because we are separate individuals who had separate experiences with you. You had no idea that I was associated with someone else until you got to our house on Monday. You did not return my call on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning. You have also not addressed the fact that you told us you'd have a quote on Tuesday, but when we asked for it, you said you still had others ahead of us. So telling us that we would have it on Tuesday was not the truth, right? We are not doing anything except telling our honest experience with you. Also, the comment about my eyes isn't a compliment, it's unnecessary and creepy. I left a message on Friday and he never called back. My partner reached out through Yelp and William got back to him right away. On Monday, he came out to look at everything we needed done and seemed very knowledgeable. He said he'd have a quote to us by the next day. It's Wednesday and we still have nothing, so we reached out for an update and were told that he has several quotes ahead of ours. Not sure why he'd tell us that he would have the quote by the next day if he knew that he couldn't. We're obviously waiting on it, and need it. He's plenty busy, but he responded to my voicemail right away and, in a short conversation, said he could take care of everything I needed (a running toilet, and two doorknobs fixed/replaced). He asked me to take a cellphone snap of the toilet tank and of the locks, so that he could ARRIVE WITH THE PARTS. Brilliant. That alone speaks volumes - a person who cares about their time, will care about yours. He showed up *exactly* when he said, took care of the jobs lickity-split, and was off to the next gig. The quality of the work was above reproach, and William was friendly, polite and a generally great guy. Apparently he's got many more, similarly rave reviews on Angie's List. We just added a back house and wanted a wall suite bookcase to go behind a drop-down projector screen... Have to agree with the other posters who gave him one star. I requested a quote on yelp, and after explaining what I needed, he replied by saying he worked only in 4 zip-codes. Obviously, that's not true based on the other yelp reviewers he has worked for. That would mean that another zip code not on his list could be closer to his home, but not relevant. Or maybe the zip-code list have some "arty" -attachment associated with them, which is nonsensical. Pasted below ( hopefully this not a violation of Yelp guidelines) is our correspondence and his oddly condescending demeanor. Notice his 'HAVE A GOOD DAY!' and "sadly" in every reply. Every one? I am not sad, unless he means he's sad. I just wonder if he's focused. But, so many handymen have answered my correspondence, so I have many to choose from who I look forward to working with. Honesty from the very beginning is the priority before you enter any agreement with a contractor, as I've learned over the years. We wanted a handyman service to fix issues in our home and if they couldn't, we needed them to say so. William, a knowledgeable, congenial and thoughtful handyman, has teams going out and doing work for him. Eleazar who has years of experience and Gavino his brother, came out to do the work. We needed: 1. A window and door leak fixed. 2. A satellite dish taken down and patched 3. A new small access door and frame for the crawlspace. 4. A workable fence latch 5. Metal window covers removed and patched 6. A handicap ramp removed and patched. They fixed almost everything in a little over a day. The house looks much better. We will not know the status of the leaks until it rains, but Eleazar said the work comes with a guarantee. The labor cost was higher than expected, but these looming issues on our 1939 home had to be done and we couldn't have coordinated that in a little over a day, ourselves. Eleazar and Gavino were a fast, hard working team. William will discuss any challenges with you (via phone or text) before and during the work. These guys are not ordinary handymen. He either answered or called back soon after and had me describe the job (turning a banister/railing into a bar-top like surface w/backstop) and text him a few pictures. He gave me a quote based on that alone and, even though the project took a bunch of extra time due to Home Depot problems, he stuck to his original price. We are thrilled with the final product and he and his guys are great. The whole thing went swimmingly. Swimmingly, I tells ya. You read it here probably not first. Trust me believe the hype, William is the real deal. I reached out to William a few weeks ago about a ceiling issue some of my knuckle head contractors told me not to worry about. Turns out my crooked ceiling was way more crooked than we all thought. I couldn't let it go and set out to find someone that knew how to level out drywall or had the skill set to redo my ceiling. The nightmare was that the cabinets and all the new stuff was already installed so now they had to work around it. First person I met was William and he gave me the price and told me how long it would take. Sounded to good to be true, but I wanted to do my due diligence, I am a lawyer after all. I asked him 100 questions and he answered all without complaining. But I still wanted to see what other contractors said. I got different answers for all of them and once they find out I am a lawyer, they would pull bait and switches on me and tell me the only way to do it was blah blah blah. Bull crap, finally circled back around to William and he knocked it out in 2 freakin days with his boys. I am so freakin happy man, I can't tell you the joy in my heart. This was a nightmare that was keeping me up at night and now I can rest easy. The leveled out the ceiling by adding some rip strips and drywall making it freakin amazing. Here is what they did a before and after so you can see the difficulty of it. Not an easy job with this super crooked ceiling. Wow! Handy William is as good as it gets! Professional, responsive, thorough, accommodating, and exceptional quality of work. I called him on Monday, he responded the same day. He got me a quote later in the day and squeezed me into his schedule on Thursday of the same week. I had previously hired another handyman to do a 2-foot x 2-foot drywall patch. That person came by twice to work on the patch and made a giant sloppy mess of the wall. Handy William came in and fixed it all up! You can't even tell anything was ever there. He smoothed it out and matched the paint perfectly. It looks flawless now! He and his technician, Pasquale, also painted a bedroom for me. There were some small nail holes that needed patching. The paint looks perfect, clean edges, no drips on the floor, he removed the blinds and re-installed them so the paint is seamless. Last minute, I also asked him to hang a large painting in a very precarious location (10-feet above my stairs...not an easy place to put a ladder!). He hung it perfectly and was happy to do it. We've used him twice - once to replace a sink faucet, and the other time to install a water heater. He was professional, affordable and ever so nice and friendly. Not only did he and his partner do an excellent and efficient job (installing new thermostats, installing outdoor lighting and moving a wall sconce) but he also helped connect me with another great local contractor to help with a bigger project (potentially saving me a lot of money). I'm lucky - I live very close to my office. I'm also lucky because William was able to work me in on a long lunch hour and address the half a dozen items that have needed attention for a few weeks. He is a VERY busy guy but is also creative with time. And if you're creative with time, too, he will get your work done. In the two times he's been to my house - once to assess what needed to be done and a second time to do the work - he's been cheerful and accommodating and honest about the constraints of his schedule due to other projects. In my book, the fact that he's busy says volumes about his work, his work ethic and his customer service. People don't use handymen who don't call back, don't show and have bad attitudes. William does none of those things. Here are the things William handled for me: Repaired a non-turning doorknob Relocated the latch on a wooden gate that wouldn't stay closed Replaced two security lights on my exterior stairs that had shorted out Re-compressed and re-seamed a wooden hand-off window Removal of a burnt out light bulb from a very high laundryroom ceiling fixture Under house inspection of exterior lighting timer He also helped me regain access to an exterior wall outlet that had been made inaccessible by the construction of permanent bench seating. All of these things seem rather small and inconsequential, but in their totality had been taking up a lot of mental bandwidth on my end just to work around them. There was some unexpected work that he had to do and the only ding is that he didn't tell me exactly how much it would cost (an electrical conversion of some sort), but I also didn't ask, so equally my fault. It ended up being more than I anticipated. BUT, the work was very well done, he and his crew are very professional, and despite the money ultimately I was happy with the outcome. How fortunate am I to find my 5-Star William on Yelp residing just 2 blocks away?! Never in my years of home improvement have I encountered a handyman/contractor as knowledgeable, articulate and efficient as William. Oh, and ever so NICE too! I had a hideous 80's style gas fireplace with its unusually massive surround attached to the walls and ceiling of my townhouse. Super pro William and his equally competent team arrived promptly, demolished the ugliness and meticulously hauled out the mess (and I am an extreme neat freak!). Of course, every job has an unexpected setback--like discovering an exhaust pipe inside the monster surround. This was not a problem with William for he expertly rerouted the pipe and built a case for it as though it were part of the architecture. Soundproofing drywall panels were then installed on a large common wall adjacent to my neighbor's. Everything was patched, smoothed, painted to perfection and the entire job completed in just 3 days.
