I've called ahead and waited on hold for 5-10 minutes and waited in line while ordering in person. I haven't figured out the trick to getting food any quicker. But, it's all worth it. Their roll tacos!!!! They are so good i get them with no cheese not a big fan of the yellow cheese. Their salsa is a little to spicy for me, me and my boyfriend come often because he loves their chicken soup i wish i could say the same i mean it is good!! But i have trouble time eating the chicken that has dark meat or bits of fat still on it but i know its not that a big of a deal when you can just take those pieces out. Dropped in to this place with a couple of coworkers. Staff was super friendly and their prices are a touch less than some other taco shops. I ordered my standard barometer for a new taco joint, a California burrito, and was relatively satisfied. I wish the thing would have been a little warmer: the cheese was mostly cold inside which tells me either the fries had been sitting a spell (they were just warm enough to be served) or the meat hadn't been cooked that recently, or both. I came here with very high expectations because of recommendations by my fiends. I tried the chicken soup and the tortas. The soup was great, and it seems thats what everyone thinks. The Tortas, on the other hand were a bit disappointing. They were soggy and it was missing a bit of flavor. The service is good. Cashier is very nice and helpful. The cantine(if I can call it that) has very little sitting area and it's best to just get your food to go but if you want to dine-in, make sure you have an empty bladder cuz there is no restroom for customers at this place. read more

I've been here six times in the last three weeks and gotten a California burrito every time. I called in my order and pick up and it's always ready and warm. The food consistency is amazing. The tortilla is fresh, the carne Asada is well flavored and cooked To perfection, the cheese is melted, the potatoes/french fries are perfect, and there is sour cream. After a 45 minute wait time we began to wonder if the food would be worth it. No matter how good the food is, once you've waited for that long in a small restaurant among other anxious customers it's not that worth it. The soup was good - not amazing, but good. The California burrito was our favorite because of the real potatoes. The carne asada burrito was just like any other decent Mexican food restaurant. All in all, good food, terrible wait time. Ive been coming here for over 15 years. Growing up in encinitas you learn where all the good food is in your hometown. The food here is top notch for a taco shop and the soup is some of the best. Ive given this Jorges three stars for service, particularly wait time. These days you cant get out of here in under 20 minutes. If The owners would hire more staff for the dinner shift he would certainly make his money back on the labor cost and he would have happier customers. I hope he can turn around the wait time and il put my review to 5 stars. A good business doesn't run on good food alone. You also can rarely get through on the phone. I got through a couple weeks ago and was put on hold. By the time the staff was ready to take my order I was in the parking lot. Less wait time = more food sales = happy customers = happy employees. I eat here every now and again because this is a better than average taco shop. It is very authentic and pretty good quality for a taco shop. It isn't my favorite spot, but one of the better in that part of Encinitas. The crispy taco shells are house made and darn good. House made crispy shells are a must for me, I won't have any of this pre-made bought rubbish. I have not had anything bad here, everything has been as expected....except the chicken soup! This is pretty good. It would take the crown for best in north county, but there is a special place in Leucadia that takes that crown. A little hard to find since the street signage just says MEXICAN and has no reference to "Jorge's", but knowing that it is next to Craftsman makes it easier. One on El Camino Real and Mountain Vista and one on Santa Fe and the I-5. Both are owned by Jorge. You can find Jorge at the Santa Fe location and his brother Noah at the El Camino location. You'll love them both! Let me start by saying that I have been going to Jorge's since I was a kid. Bonus points for being a small business that has been in our community for 20+ years -- obviously they are doing something right! Located on the northwest corner of Mountain Vista and El Camino Real, this place is a hidden gem that you'll love! I frequently order a California burrito and the chicken soup. The best I've had locally!! The tortillas are fresh, they provide large portion sizes, and the prices are reasonable. I believe they just extended their Sunday hours as well. They have a few tables indoor and outside, but I usually call and pick up their food to go. They accept credit/debit and you can find easy parking. Only bad thing on the menu: their guacamole. It's not thick and has little flavor. Skip it. Skip Chipotle and give Jorge's a try. I promise you'll be equally (if not more) satisfied! read more

Friends were in from out of town. With 10 adults and teenagers with different dietary requirements to feed dinner, this was our choice. Went on line to so everyone could select what they wanted. We placed the order when we got there and it was ready quickly. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Hard to believe we could feed 10 for under $60! Several meals were so large only could eat half. Holy guacamole - the chicken soup is GOOD. We come for lunch often now. Most everyone you see has an order of chicken soup. The other thing that gets me all warm and tingly inside is their Chile Verde Burrito. It's this warm deliciousness of this super soft pork in a yummy mild green chile sauce and soft potatoes all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. It's heaven. And I can practically eat that burrito everyday. I haven't really strayed far from that burrito, but if I will, I'll usually get their good ol' California Burrito. I was really excited to try the famous chicken soup. It was good but nothing to go back for, unless I was sick and was in need of a decent soup. My husbands taco's were good, although with cheese and little guac they would of been much more enjoyable (he didn't notice that you had to ask/pay extra for cheese, sour cream etc.) Overall it was good, no huge complaints but we probably won't go back. read more

Been going to Jorges for a decade and the quality and same great taste has been consistent for years. The soup is wonderful and unmatched. By far the standout dish is the chicken soup. Extraordinarily fresh and tasty. Nice chucks of shredded chicken, rice, good spice balance and beautiful fresh avocado dress out the taste and presentation. I prefer the spicy version but both are delicious. Other dishes are good. The fish taco (fried) doesn't just taste like fishy fried batter and retains the texture and taste of fish. Sometimes other fried items seem to be dependent and reflective of how old the oil is. The carnitas are tasty, but nothing special. Usually you won't go wrong with whatever the daily special is. Salsa is pleasantly balanced. Again, most everything is workable but the soup is exceptional. As others have mentioned don't think of eating off the floor (but then again who would do that anywhere). Generally very clean and it's nice to see the kitchen. Friendly, if not always efficient, service. That being said, the wait times seem to be dependent on the guests more than the staff. Really guys, how hard is it to know what you want and communicate it? They are very patient and willing to customize. I've been getting food from Jorge's for many years, although, not as often as at Mexico Viejo, primarily because Mexico Viejo is closer. Jorge's does a great job. There are two items they serve that I haven't had better, their carne asada burrito and their chicken soup. I've watched Jorge cook the top sirloin that he bought from Costco several times-this is what he puts into his carne asada burrito. It's a very traditional carne asada burrito with great grilled beef, guacamole and salsa fresca. However, right before they close up that huge tortilla they take a spray bottle and do a quick spray of a secret substance which makes a huge difference. Rather than spoil their secret on the internet I'll let you ask them what they put in the spray bottle. The Chicken Soup: No need for me to expound upon its virtues, as the rest of the world has already done that. The only problem with Jorge's is that for much of the day the line is too long and they are unable to take phone orders when they're that busy. Hopefully, there will be a way to text in an order at some time in the future. read more

I'm pretty sure their chicken soup can cure corona virus because it's cured me of everything else. This stuff has magical powers and when you dip one of those perfect corn tortillas in it you are transported to your own little slice of heaven. That being said, some of their dishes could be better. If you are thinking about ordering rolled tacos, get the flautas instead. Way better. Their quesadillas aren't much either.
