I've been here before and liked the food and then years passed before I was able to come back to Jorgs. Their menu if different now. They have narrowed down options but those options are amazing! I had the Schweine Wienerschnitzel. I was expecting the norm but what came was new and great. Crispy Wienerschnitzel, great mustard dip and a light oniony cold potato salad. Oh it all was SO good! If you never had schnitzel before try it without sauce and then maybe sauce later. I, also, drank Liebfraumilch white wine. Really good and complimented my food perfect! My oldest son had the black forest schnitzel sandwich...he cannot remember the exact name. It has schnitzel, ham, and Swiss cheese. He really enjoyed it. I think it took him 5secs to inhale it. I get a craving for German/Austrian food now and then so during our visit to the Dallas area, my wife and I found this place on Yelp and ended up having dinner here. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all excellent. My wife ordered the mutti's chicken jaeger shnitzel and I ordered the schweine wienerschnitzel. The chicken dish came with some spatzle and the pork dish came with Austrian potato salad. We also ordered two additional sides: marinated sauerkraut and braised red cabbage. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. The pork, however, was surprisingly thin, much thinner than I was accustomed to. The dish was still delicious but the breading outsized the pork. My wife's chicken dish was tasty and the mushroom sauce was a great complement to the dish. They had a full bar that offered various German beers. We finished the meal with an apfel strudel, which was plenty for us to share and was excellent. read more

Today we took some friends here for lunch as a thank you. They had never tried Austrian food. We started with the pretzel bread and cheese spread appetizer. Our guy friend ordered bratwurst with pommes frites. Our lady friend ordered a chicken Schnitzel and potato salad. My husband ordered Oma's (not breaded, with a paprika cream sauce) and spatzle noodles. I ordered the same thing as my lady friend. My husband and I shared, as we usually do. Our friends raved about the amazing cuisine. Our guy friend told the waiter "Kudos to the chef!" They were very happy with their meals, as were we with ours. We walked down the street and had a gelato for dessert. There are a lot of good restaurants, coffee shops, and dessert shops in downtown Plano. This is just one of them. For the last twenty years, I would have held fast to the opinion that Jörg's was one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I first ate there after returning from an exchange program living in Bavaria, and the food at Jörg's reminded me fondly of my host mother's home-cooked meals. Things at Jörg's however, have changed. And not for the better. The restaurant once prided itself on the authenticity of its food, but Jörg has chosen the path of least resistance as of late. The cream schnitzels, for example, used to include red cabbage and *two* cutlets or either pork or chicken. Now the price has increased, and we're down to one cutlet and no cabbage. You have to order it as a side which costs an outrageous $5.50. When you consider that the red cabbage is made in-house (and it, at least, is still delicious as ever), Jörg is raking in a fortune over-charging German/Austrian food lovers. As to the schnitzels: they were once robust, hand-tenderized, hefty slabs of Austrian protein. The now single cutlet is a thin, pitiful imitation of its proud ancestor (and, I suspect, frozen). I order Oma's Paprika Schnitzel, which has always been the crown jewel of Jörg's menu. It was devastatingly under-seasoned and bland. At $20, I expected the same perfection from the past, but the flavor simply wasn't there. Perhaps most disappointing was the goulash. My wife ordered it, which came in a bowl large enough to scrub your laundry in. The goulash was thin and watery, with five measly, very tough pieces of beef within. And the goulash was *swimming* in spätzle (presumably to give the dish some substance). Bear in mind that the goulash used to be a thick, chunky stew of tender meat that had recently slipped off the bone, and it was served on a plate over some spätzle. This is an important point, because customers once had the option of ordering the goulash or the goulash Suppe (soup). Now, at $25.95, you can only get a thin, under-seasoned soup with barely any protein. It was a massive bummer to go to my former favorite restaurant and have such pitiful fare. And at $80 for only my wife and I to have a meal and one beer each, it feels like a scam. I'm not saying that Jörg's is too expensive, but rather that I'd pay even more for food that was actually delicious. Shame, Jörg, shame. (As a side note, we had to take the goulash soup home, and after heating some up and adding a pinch of salt and some actual spicy Hungarian paprika I had lying around, it tasted half-way decent). read more

Having our family dinner here tonight. It's my first time on this Austrian Cafe and Restaurant, East Plano Texas. It's a medium size original Austrian Cafe In downtown East Plano, TX, considered a landmark in the area for the past eighteen years. The Liptauer, pretzel an apps with their homemade cheese served on the side is so good with draft beer. The saltiness of the pretzel and the creamy cheese is tasty and blended well with their draft beer. We ordered Kartner Rahm Veal dinner, Jorg's Wurst Teller, Vienna Kase Kreiner Wur And Schnitzel Wiener Art dinner. We also tried their draft beers, Helles Lager and Octoberfest. The veal was thinly sliced and blended very well with their homemade gravy. It's delicious. Their locally made sausage was grilled and well matched with their homemade sauerkraut served on the side, is delicious. The breaded chicken taste great with their potato salad on the side. Serving staff are attentive and well knowledgeable of their entrees and beers. Serving portion is average at $$ price code. Clean separate Men's and Women's bathroom. read more

Great food, great beers, great vibes. This is a lively and fun place for dinner. We've been here twice with our toddler and we've all loved it. We've tried the brats, brat burger, schnitzel, and the pretzel appetizer. Everything is simple and satisfying. I've only given four stars because of the inconsistency in service between our two visits. One waitress was attentive, friendly, and upbeat. The other never introduced herself, and was pretty lackluster. We had one time the high chair buckle was broken. Nothing disastrous and hoping those were one-time things. Unfortunately, tonight's dinner was the worst experience I have ever had at Jorg's. Ourserver​ was Laura. We arived at 5:30pm and were able to place our appetizer order immediately. Our server then dissapeared, and the few times we saw her she said she had forgotten her pad and would be right back. we were finally able to put in our order at 6p...the table next to us arrived at 615 and ordered shortly after they sat down. After some delay, however, they were served similar dishes to what we ordered (cream schnitzels) at least 15 minutes before ours was served. When our food did finally arrive, after i had to walk to the kitchen to see what was going on, it arrived at the table not even warm, but cold. Laura did offer to have to have it re-made, but after just having explained to us that the delay was "all the kitchen staff's fault," we felt that having to wait another 45 minutes wasn't the best choice. While the delay certainly could have been an issue in the kitchen, that type of delay should have at least prompted someone in authority to drop by the table to explain. From experience, though, cold food is almost never​ the kitchen's fault. It means the food sat, waiting for the server to pick it up. When I mentioned the issue to another server on the way out, his response was just as worthless. He just looked at me like I was crazy. I realize I'm not a regular weekly customer, I only visit a few times a year, but I have been visiting Jorg's for many years, and have eaten there dozens of times. This time I have brought along guests for a first time experience at what I thoigh would be one of the best restaurants in the area. Even during the worst of meals, I have never had such a disappointing experience. I am sad to say that I won't be back, since your restaurant was such a special place to me. read more

The Liptauer was authentic and good; the goulash is served in a big soup dish, lots of it. The beef is tender, but there are no onions and the dumplings do not taste home made. Not enough paprika, and I like mine with caraway and a dash of vinegar. I thought it was too bland and did not taste authentic. More like a beef stew. My American husband thought it was great. My paprika schnitzel was disappointing as that, too, had very little bite to it. A boned piece of chicken breast in a very creamy, bland sauce. Again, those dumplings that tasted like out of a Maggi package, not soft enough to absorb the sauce. I guess I expected a real piece of chicken with bone in a dark sauce with red and green peppers. If you don't know the original, it was fine I guess. The place was packed and we did not have a reservation. We were seated in the 'beer garden, which was fine. To get to it you walked through a messy, dark storage room. I enjoyed the authentic hokey Austrian music. The little garden is cozy and comfy. Service was friendly and attentive. I used to like this restaurant but my last visit changed my mind. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the German food is good. But, last time I visited they said they had NO sauces for any meal. The waiter told me they didn't make any of the sauces because they were low on staffing No matter how good their Schnitzel, without sauce it is dry and difficult to eat.
