I came to lima tavern a few months ago with my friend who is Peruvian and he guided me and my husband through a delicious meal! We started with some mussles that had some sort of spicy sauce on it...I am not a fan of mussels but wow, it was delicious! I had the chicken lomo Saltado which was delicious! To round things out we had a sampling of dessert and I cant remember the name of it all.. we had mini donuts and a shortbread like cookie and both were sooo yummy. My Peruvian friend praised how authentic this restaurant is. I have never been to Peru, however everything I ate here was tasty and fresh. The service was good as well and our waiter was friendly. 10 stars! Absolutely delicious food. We were so hungry we forgot to take pictures, but we tried the ceviche, the pasta lomo saltado, and the regular lomo saltado -- everything was amazing. One thing I really loved was the portion sizes. You definitely get a lot for your money, and the flavors were incredible. The music and atmosphere were also so good and made the whole experience even better. I also couldn't be more impressed with Cesar, our waiter. The food was excellent! We started with the Papas a la Huancaina, a classic, five stars. I ordered the Tallarines Verdes con Asado (Peruvian Pesto Noodles with Steak), and it was delicious. César, our server, told us that it takes time because everything is prepared fresh, so the wait was super worth it. My wife ordered a Quinoa Salad with Chicken; she really liked it. We didn't know quinoa originated in Peru, but now we do. Cesar was always attentive and often came to our table to ensure we had everything. I was working late so there weren't many options by the time I cleaned up. This place was tucked around the back side of the building. The dining room was dimly lit but still had a casual atmosphere. There was 1 party of 8 or so and another couple but I think that's because it was late on a week night. I quickly ordered the Lomo saltado so it wasn't too close to closing. The server brought out bread with a herb sauce that was similar to pesto and that has a little spice. The Lomo had good flavor. The beef and the veggies were cooked well. read more

This is a nice little Peruvian restaurant tucked away in the back of a strip. The menu had a good selection of dishes including ceviche, cuts of steak and seafood. The Lomo Saltado I ordered was good. Meat was tender. Cooked in an oriental style sauce almost like a kung pao. There was a sax player who started up midway through the meal and was very good. When they found out we had never had Peruvian food, they brought us samples of their best sellers plus an amazing nonalcoholic berry juice that was delicious. I requested for the beef to be medium rare but it was more like medium well... the meat was not chewy even though it was overcooked so that was a plus... water tasted a little funky too :( The decor is nice though. My expectations were high after reading the reviews & the minute i walked in the restaurant looks and is clean, pleasant, the waitress was really friendly and approachable , service was really good. Now let's talk about the food. Ceviche mixto was good, calamari a little over cooked , and the fish was cut the wrong way so it was very tough, but the leche tigre was very tasty, good flavor. Went here for Valentine's Day when they had a special menu with only 3 course meals. Asked the waitress if we could only order parts of it without being charged for the full price and she said yes, only to bring us a bill that had us pay for 6 courses. We only ordered 3. The manager refused to compensate us, or just charge us for the price's of the normal menu. Expected to pay 60 bucks and ended up paying closer to 140. I love this place but it is frequently service that brings disappointment. The drinks were excellent and so was the food. Unfortunately we ordered appetizers and never got them. The waiter unfortunately didn't even apologize and said we did not order even though he asked clarify questions about our ceviche and number ordered. Can blame on language as we ordered in Spanish. There was live music the night we went, which was nice but also loud. Service was impeccable with multiple different wait staff checking up on us and refilling our waters. I liked the vibe of the restaurant, which was clearly Latin. I was promptly sat at the table of my choice by the host. The waitress came to my table within a few minutes with a menu. I ordered the lomo saltado. The dish arrived within maybe ten minutes. It tasted very good! The meat was cooked to my requested temperature and the rice was great. What was also great about it is that it was well-portioned. You know how when you go to a TexMex restaurant and they give you a massive amount of food? This restaurant does NOT do that. I have been many times in this Peruvian restaurant, I try the chaufa with seafood and steak/meat. Actually in the menu is only chicken or seafood but I ask them to do it with steak and seafood, they charge me extra but is the best chaufa in Texas.
