I love Jose's passion for what he does. He is great at color correction, and making your hair healthy. I haven't stop seeing him and am grateful for him. He is not just my stylist but has become a good friend. He knows how to work with curly hair and his blowouts are amazing. I love love love how he washes hair with that little massage! I went to see Jose a couple of weeks ago for a cut and color and I am still getting compliments. He seriously gave me the best haircut I have ever had and I cannot wait to go back in a few months to try another color and cut out I booked somewhat last minute and did so over Yelp. Jose was super responsive and agreed to see me later that night. My appointment was at 6, and I believe the salon closes at 7, but he stayed open nearly an hour past closing to finish up my hair! Jose never came off as impatient with how long it took to do my hair and was not frustrated by the amount of hair he had to deal with. He was awesome! My hair has been looking so lifeless, style-less, loveless, and senseless for so long, I decided to ditch the Korean lady I always went to and find a new hair stylist. I found Jose on Yelp. Boy am I glad! A simple haircut, Jose fixed 3 things for me: 1. Stupid bangs that always annoyed me because they sometimes looked great but sometimes looked awful. 2. Because how the Korean lady was parting and styling my hair without any change for so long, she made my hair look like it's thinning at the top. There is this one spot that's looking pretty painfully like it's an over-mowed lawn. I absolute hated it, but i thought it's me getting old--hair falling out. 3. No-style flat hair that looks I never took care of it. (even though it's been permed & cut by the Korean lady) Jose took time to listen to me. He told me things about my hair and my options that I never was told before. At first I was disappointed he couldn't do what I wanted so I wanted to get a perm instead. He doesn't do perms so he recommended another stylist who worked at the salon. He didn't seem upset that he wasted time talking to me but ending up not getting the business. I decided to get a cut from him before a perm since everyone on yelp says he's so great at it. YAY for Yelpers!! Jose did a great job. Now I just blow dry my hair and it looks so much better (without a perm). It looks and feels soft, not flat and dull like before. I LOVE IT. I no long shun the mirror!! Jose's blow try ROCKS!! When I discovered that today was my only day off for a while, I decided last minute to get a little pampered up for the new year and my bday. I called to make an appt, and found out on his voicemail that I could make one via text message! I immediately texted my request for an appt anytime today, and in a minute, my appt was confirmed for a cut and color with him. Before he started, we went over my ideas with color. He analyzed my hair, and gave me his suggestions considering how it might look many washes later. We ended up with something that was the healthiest and longest lasting for my hair. Although it wasn't the exact color I was going for, I'm 100% happy with what I have because it's pretty close to what I envisioned without damaging my hair as much. He blow dried and styled my hair afterwards so beautifully! I love my hair. The cut is perfect, and it flows and feels soooo nice! It was a Friday late morning and I am all up for parting but it seems Jose had had a little too much fun the previous night to give me a good cut. He was great to chat with (mainly about his rager the night beforr) as he did my hair but I had never left a salon with my hair looking like such a hot mess. There are over 100 pictures of gorgeous haircuts (major sway in my decision to give this place a go) however when leaving my hair looked like a mop. I took a gamble, and found Jose here via Yelp. He quickly answered his phone when I called, sounded pleasant, and booked me the same day (even through I work 8 to 5)! Fabulous! Jose rescued my hair from a previous BAD cut job (which I was also trying to grow out, and it isn't pretty). I brought in some pictures of hair styles I really wanted -- long length, lots of layers. I even showed a picture of my own hair (before the crappy cut), instructing him that it's what my hair usually look like -- I hate it, I have thick curly/wavy/unruly hair that sometimes make me look like a unkempt poodle. Anyway, I entrusted my hair to Jose. He showed me he was about to cut off A LOT of my hair, and I slightly nodded "go ahead." My eyes kinda widen as he progressed, part of me worried I won't have the length anymore, and partially because he performed like Edward Scissorhands (with wisps of hair flying there and about). I could tell he's passionate about hair styling. He blow curled my hair, tussled it up, and TA-DA. I LOVE it! I asked him if he could get up at 6 AM to do my hair every morning. Found a voucher for a cheap $79 Brazilian Blowout here and they were able to see me the next day (a Sunday!). Flor did my hair. The salon itself is easy to miss and I passed it 2 times. This isn't a standard salon to what I'm used to and does feel a bit out of place being a white girl in a Mexican salon (there's an ice cream and sausage cart guy that sits in front just to tell you LOL). Anyway, most of the workers were friendly. Flor did a great job at my BB and I was there hours how it should be. I have had the BB done many times and have had people be done with it in 40 minutes which is a rush job. Granted it has only been a week but my hair looks and feels healthy and I haven't had to use a straightener since. She convinced me to get a hair cut (only a $10 add on) and non risk taker me got one. I wanted to cry at first because I liked my super long although very dry hair and now it was just a few inches past my shoulders. After a couple of days I liked it even though my hair didn't look as good now after I washed it and styled it myself. It was a haircut I needed to get at some point (I'm cut phobic!). Prices were odd for a small for a small salon sort of in a ghetto area (food cart vendor plops himself right outside the salon). A dye job runs roughly $60 which I found way too much compared to salons you would see say in Studio City and Sherman Oaks. They seem to have coupons a lot which I would take advantage of for Brazilian Blowouts and for color. I would definitely check them out for specials or just for a hair cut! ---------------------------- Went back at the last minute for an emergency dye job. They honored a price on Lifebooker in which I had trouble activating on my phone (YAY! Good service for that). I forgot the name of the woman who colored my hair. She did a pretty good job except my roots were much brighter than the rest of my head. She also lightened my brows a bit too much. I also wasn't fond of basically being forgotten about as she was busy with another client (granted I know it was a last minute appointment). She did give me a fair quote on becoming a repeat customer. Hair color, lightened eyebrows (no thanks though), and a cut and blowdry would be $75 which is a good deal. Ultimately though, I wouldn't want her touching my brows again and I rarely get my hair styled. Probably would just go back for a Brazilian Blowout. read more

Jose Reyes is in many ways a miracle worker! Lets just say, my hair had issues. I had not had a decent cut or coloring job in some time. I moved to LA six months ago and had a girl at a cheap salon worked on my hair... she fried it and the cut was super funky and weird. I was scared to go to another salon, because first I didn't feel like getting lectured about the condition of my hair (trust me I know better then anyone how sorry it looks and feels! I'm the one who was sitting in the chair crying a couple of months ago as I watched it break and fall into my lap), also, after my last experience I was having trust issues. But my roots were awful, and so it was time to find a new stylist. Along came groupon with a great deal, and Jose with amazing reviews. I thought it was worth a shot. First there was no judgment. He told me what I already knew: "it's dry, and damaged, and your color is uneven." But then he said the magic words "I can fix the color." And fix it he did!!! Bonus my hair actually looks healthier! Yes we had to cut several inches off, but I was prepared to part with them. He was really nice and I feel so much better about my hair. I feel like I can trust Jose and I know that he really cares about what he does and really listens. I told him that I have fine hair that is resistant to having the color pulled (I go from a dark mousy brown to blonde) he listened and adjusted to make sure that he didn't damage it anymore. As with any relationship there were a couple of cons: I waited at the door and no one greeted me for some time. Not Jose's fault, there were employees who saw me come in, stand awkwardly, then sit, check my phone, and wait some more. When I got home and pulled my hair back on one side it kind of looks like I have stripes in my hair. It's not that bad, but I won't be able to wear my hair with that side pinned up... not that much of a loss but in all fairness. The cut isn't exactly what I wanted. The problem with this last comment is I'm not sure that this is really Jose's fault. He said that my hair was too thin for a bob, but I have worn my hair in a bob for 10 of the last 11 years. But again in all fairness my old hairstylist never had to clean up someone Else's mess, so it could just be that the breakage from the last stylist caused my hair to be too thin? At any rate the cut is pretty cute, the color looks sooooo much better, and my hair isn't the awful mess that it was when I walked in! Well done sir, well done! read more

I needed a fix for a terrible cut I'd received elsewhere, and Jose managed to fit me in the same day for a great cut. I have short hair, and it's always a challenge to find someone who will be precise enough to really get it right without butchering you (and leaving you too short to do anything about it). SUPER happy with my cut! My friend used to cut my hair in Pasadena but he moved away about a year ago. Then I moved back home to North Hollywood and didn't know where to go. I tried a few places, but I'm not good at explaining how I want my hair and ended up with bad cuts that were way to short and hard to manage. I'm bad at scheduling, and my hair was long overdue for a cut. I called one Saturday at 2:30, and Jose was booked at 3pm but he said he'd make some time for me. So I just walked in and he did an amazing job! He event went past 3pm to get my hair right! $35 for a cut not bad, totally worth it. I'm switching salons, my other place went up to $60 or something and Jose is just as good. As for the location, theres a parking lot so thats good. Well, my search for a new hair salon is officially over. Jose Reyes is fantastic, and I have no need to ever look for another stylist as long as I'm in this area. I moved here from the east coast about six months ago, and I have been searching for a good salon for a while. I'm a guy, but I have long hair. So I don't take my mop to just any mall salon. I also only get my hair cut every 3-4 months, so I don't mind paying a lot if I like the cut. The first place I went to back in November was just average. I paid $50, and I feel like the girl was too nervous to take much off. I wasn't pleased. So back to Yelp I went and decided to give Jose (with his 5 star reviews) a shot. I called and made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon. I walked in the salon and was immediately greeted by several members of the incredibly friendly staff. They made me feel right at home. There was a lot of activity going on, but everyone was very welcoming and accommodating. Jose came right out in less than five minutes, and we had a discussion about what I wanted done with my hair. And the result was just right. Jose was extremely friendly and professional. We had a great chat while he was cutting my hair. I was in and out in less than twenty minutes and completely satisfied. But the most astounding part of this experience was the price. I paid $16.00 for a shampoo and cut. $16.00! In LA! I'm still wondering how that's possible. I used to pay twice that back in Pittsburgh. As I said at the beginning, I have long hair. So my haircut was a bit more involved than a normal guy's cut. But I was still charged the price for a male haircut. I can't say enough how excellent this experience was. Efficient from start to finish. I walked in and was a bit surprised just because for some reason, I thought it would be larger. When I came in, I was able to sit with Kesha who I totally recommend. She is fantastic. This was my first cut and style in 4 years or so. I wanted a change and had a vision in my mind. Some sort of asymmetrical cut via Posh Spice, Nikki Minaj, and Rhianna :) Kesha was very cool and understood my goal. I also asked her for her advice since she is the stylist and professional... she was very sweet and did help see a better way to my cut. All in all, when it was completed, I was completely satisfied! Kesha was friendly, professional, and will definitely see me again! I will also happily recommend her to my friends. I felt very comfortable with her. Another perk of the salon is the price point! I've pretty much gotten the same cut for years -- long layers with long lip-length "bangs" in front. Jose did a very nice job and my hair looked beautiful coming out. If you're looking for a spa luxury type hair salon though, this is not the spot. This place is great for a fair priced good cut. The parking lot is very small and I was lucky to get there just as a family was getting to their car. Took forever just for them and me to maneuver around each other so they could get out and I could get in. The studio is small in a strip mall on a busy corner. Finally!! I found a stylist who is great at what he does. I found Jose's Salon on yelp and had to give him a try since every review raves about his skills. I had a horrible haircut 4 months prior and have been waiting to let the mess grow out to get a real haircut. I was scared, naturally, I didnt want to go through it again but I desperately needed a cut. I told Jose my fears and told him to fix it lol. He assured me I was going to be okay and not to worry. I told him I wanted long layers and I wanted to keep my length and he got to work. The outcome was amazing! I have not been satisfied with a cut in years. My hair looks healthy and the layers are perfect!! He even gave me a few tips on how to style my hair with the curling iron to get different size curls. Not good. I usually trust overall yelp ratings but this place was horrible. I have long hair and went in asking for BASIC LAYERS (wasn't being picky) but my hair is now uneven and unmanageable. It has no life and looks very heavy and DEAD = the layers were not done well. My main beef is that it is UNEVEN! How do you do a basic cut and make it uneven? Also, the overheated hairdryer (power went out several times while they were drying) left my hair feeling very BRITTLE. I do not recommend this place. Oh man. I don't know what happened. I feel bad writing this because Jose & the woman who was also working in the salon helping him were very nice, but something very wrong happened. I came in for a single process color, we went over the hue I wanted, & I pointed out some samples I liked. Each was a honeyed, warm, light brown tone--I said I didn't want anything too light or blonde as it just wasn't my thing. I mentioned I had been coloring my hair from the box for years & had build-up, & he could see I had about a half-inch of natural growth at the roots. He put the color on, I waited half an hour, then upon rinsing it out my hair apparently turned ashy green at the ends & bright red at the roots where there was new growth, but I never saw it as they instantly went to work on putting on color remover. Round 2. They color it again. I wait another half hour. Now that all the old color is apparently stripped out, they say how lovely the new color is. They wash it, then show it to me. YOINKS. It's an orangey-red, bright brassy blonde. They thought it looked great, I said no waaaaay, too blonde & brassy & hoochie. I said I originally wanted a honey brown color & found some magazines in front of me & pointed out a few more shots of women with hair color in the range I was looking for. Round 3. More color remover. By now my head & eyes are burning like hell. They put the new color in, I wait the half hour, & then we look at it. It's serviceable. It was a brassy light brown, with various darker areas, but by now I had been there 3 hours & wanted out. I said great, let's go with it, & no, you don't have to blow it dry as my hair is curly & I never blow it dry. The woman (I don't recall her name) proceeded to put me under the hard plastic globe dryer then put me under a diffuser on her hair dryer while crazily shaking my hair from the roots to the end. I just sat there wondering how that was possibly going to work on my naturally curly hair--now it was just a rat's nest. She realized it looked like a straw afro & said she'd blow it out as it just wasn't getting curly. I was numb & said ok. The blow-out was not good, my hair was rough & half-frizzy half-straight with ribbed areas. By now I'd been there 3.5 hours, & I just wanted to leave. I don't know what happened, since all the other reviews are so great & I was really looking forward to going. Now my hair is pretty thrashed. Curly hair is dry as it is, & it's really much, much frizzier with split ends where there were none before. Also, when I got home that night, I realized that I had dye all over my forehead & cheeks, & there were actually 2 small circles on my forehead about the size of a pencil eraser where the dye and/or color remover had eaten through my skin. The small wounds took about 2 weeks to heal, & my color is still really off but I'm burned from going to a stylist, I don't want to try to color over it since it would probably damage it further, & I spent $80 including tip on my current situation & I don't want to spend any more. UPDATE: Jose contacted me via Yelp's messaging & wrote that he was very concerned that this happened. I told him that I felt terrible & didn't want to hurt his business, but since I had found him on Yelp & this odd thing happened, I wanted to share my experience. I told him I knew it had to have been something strange, a fluke of sorts with my hair type, since he has so many fantastic reviews & he's obviously a wonderful guy & absolutely passionate about doing hair--something that not a lot of people can truly say. He offered to do whatever he could to make me happy, whether it was new color or conditioning treatments, & that he wouldn't charge me for it. Jose is a truly lovely human being, & I feel terrible that this one glitch happened. At the end of the day, my hair didn't fall out & it'll eventually be fine. For the first time, my fellow Yelpers have let me down! I made an appointment with Jose for a haircut & blow dry after reading his rave reviews on Yelp. Finding a new hair stylist is not an easy endeavour... but, I don't think my hair style is complicated and I went to the salon armed with several pictures of the hairstyle I wanted, including a picture of myself with the hairstyle I wanted. I even had "DON'T" pictures, just to cover all the bases. I verbally explained what I wanted and showed Jose all the pictures. He worked very quickly and when he asked me what I thought, I was shocked he was actually finished. I started asking many questions and pointing out the many problems... problems I specifically tried to avoid by explaining in length, with my pictures, what I did and didn't want. Based on his reviews, I truly thought I was going to be having my hair cut by someone very skilled... apparently I was sorely mistaken... and my hair is easy... angled bob... that's it! He then just walked away without explaining anything to me and brought another stylist to his chair. They had a conversation in Spanish, which I very obviously do not speak, and he then told me to go with her with no explanation... huh? What's going on?? I actually had to ask him to tell me what was happening. He said she was better at "short haircuts". Okayyyyy.... my hair is shoulder length, but I had no choice at that point. So, I started over again with the explaining and showing the pictures, including the very important "DON'T" picture. She starting to re-cut all of my hair and I could tell she was doing a much better job. She was just about finished when she picked up an electric razor. I asked her what it was for and she mumbled something about getting some hairs that were sticking out. I thought perhaps she was just cleaning up the blunt bob... but I was horribly mistaken! After a few swipes with that razor, she turned the chair and I could see her in the mirror and was shocked. She was turning the back of my head into one of my "DON'T" pictures, WHICH I EXPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES, WITH PHOTOGRAPHIC EXAMPLES, WAS EXACTLY WHAT I DIDN'T WANT! I was horrified! Yes, I know it's ONLY hair and it will grow back... although it will take a minimum of 6 months for this debacle to grow out... but, c'mon... REALLY?? I didn't even get an apology... just a look like she did me a huge favor for fixing the crap job Jose had already done. Let me be clear in saying that Ricky and Jose deserve 5 Stars for their quality of work and service***** BUT I have to give 4 Stars because Yelpers must be aware of certain issues regarding facilities and the employees of Hector's Beauty (things I know they can't really control). I found this place through Yelp and it met the criteria for everything I needed: *Close to my home * Does hair AND make-up *Great reviews *Great price BONUS-Yelp Deal get $45 for $35 I was chaperoning my school's prom and I needed help getting ready for the event. PROS *Ricky, make-up artist and hair stylist, by himself earns 6 STARS! He is everything a woman can want in an artist. He's incredibly attentive to your needs, very professional, has the uncanny ability to read your mind and style preferences, understands a client's needs, and does incredible work! * Along w/ my make-up, Ricky did the majority of the work on my hair. He washed, dried, and did about half the curls on my hair. Jose met with me briefly, I told him what I wanted (lots of sexy curls and volume) and he gave very specific directions to Ricky. * Jose is definitely an ARTIST, not simply a stylist. He works with amazing speed and precision. He has a very pleasant demeanor and I am impressed by his technical abilities. My hair came out exactly how I wanted! I have fine, straight hair that can't hold a style for long. Not only did my hair last all night, but I still had the curls 24hrs later! * I arrived early, and was greeted by a very friendly lady (I believe her name is Marta) and seated immediately. * Full hair and make-up DONE in under an hour and half. Never have I received so many compliments! Thank you Ricky and Jose! CONS I'll keep this short because I don't like to waste the energy. * Parking can be difficult * Business sign hard to spot * No-frills decor (I actually prefer this if I get a great price) * Hector employees chain smoking by back entrance * Hector employee (bleach blond hair, older lady in her late 40s to early 50s) tried everything she could to NOT honor my Yelp Deal. She argued with me and said some VERY RUDE comments in Spanish (BTW I'm fluent in Spanish, don't assume I'm Caucasian just because of my skin color and because I speak grammatically-correct English). After my salon closed I was nervous about finding a new one. I read Jose's reviews and ended up going there without an appointment. Jose cut and curled my hair in 20 minutes and I've never been so happy with the turn out! I'm definitely going to go back, often. The environment of the salon is very fun and upbeat and the price can't be beat! read more

Jose is amazing ! He is my new hair person . I started looking to change hair salons over 6 months ago because I got tired of paying the same inflated prices for my hair dresser's assistant to do my hair... She has her own salon with many assistants and since business is booming she no longer does hair, kind of supervises while the helpers do the rest.. Needless to say I have been to more than a couple of different stylists in my quest to find a new hairdresser & right here on Yelp, I found him, HE is the one !! My hair has never looked so healthy and beautiful. I went from dark brown with red highlights to a weave of blond highlights and it looks amazing.... I also let him cut my hair several inches.. I NEVER let anyone cut my hair more than half an inch but I saw the way he cut on the day I had gone for my color correction and was so impressed that I made an appointment for the next day for cut & style. Jose was a no show. I confirmed with him about the day and time on Thursday night. He had left me a voicemail which day and time worked. I called him back to confirm and I thought we were set. Nope, apparently not. I checked my voicemail when I arrived and was told he was not there and I had the day and time right. But I was told he was at home. I just found it to be very unprofessional. Even if there was a mix up no one seemed to have an appointment for me when I got there. The girl who did my hair did an ok job. Pretty run of the mill simple haircut. I'm just glad the color was good which I was worried most about. My only complaint is that she may have cut a little too much off, but it may have been miscommunication on both our parts. And in so cutting a little bit too much off, cut some of the work she did on my ombre color. And it's not as dynamic as I would have liked it. I was mad though and I didn't want to stay there all night giving adjustments. Plus I don't make the best decisions when I'm fuming. But it looks good and I'm fairly satisfied. I would recommend her for a simple cut and color. I forget her name, not sure if she gave it either, but she's was the youngest woman in there working. read more
