Really not a helpful place. Went here recently for a black suit rental, and the recommended pants selections were very baggy and unflattering. The employee helping us said it's simply the rental system and that many sizes were unavailable. The employee helping us was also confusing with his communications to us regarding what would be available. This was a disappointing experience because we were here over a year ago to rent a tuxedo for our wedding. The selection was much better and the tux fit much better than the suit. Maybe it's a suit vs tux availability. This last time though I ended up not renting with them, and had a much easier and smooth process at Men's Warehouse in Potomac Yards. This location and/or business definitely needs some changes to their rental program. The value and use is just not there read more

Writing bad reviews is always painful. I have been thinking about what to say such that the business is not hurt as this could be a small franchise business... stores are closing down... and it's a very stressful time. However, this was out of hand! I was trying to return a tie that frizzed up on me after wearing it for one time as well as a few other items I purchased with the tie. Service was terrible from the first salesman I interacted with; and when I told them I was doing a return, he pointed to someone in dressing room some distance away and said he's the manager you need to talk to him. I didn't notice him having on any store credentials; name tag, badge, etc; I wasn't even sure if he was the right person because As the guy approached me, He barely acknowledged me and kind of walked off without engaging... at first I thought that I must've gotten a customer that was not the manager (esp since the first salesman just pointed to someone), but he eventually turned around at one of the registers and beckoned for me to come. As I pulled out the tie and tried to explain, he started to cut me off before I could get my second sentence out; I got pretty irate, as it took me raising my voice and asking him to wait until I finish so I can explain the tie frizzed after only wearing it once and it was defective. He then started making up policies asking where is the tag, were is the box (cut me off before I could even say it didn't come with a box), implying they don't take back items which were worn. However the tie had a big Jos A Bank tag on it. I reviewed the policy to see if I misread, as I reviewed it before coming to the store. The policy was clear, I had 90 days and if I'm not satisfied I can return the item as long as I had a receipt, which confirmed it purchased these items in much less than 90 days. I think he really wanted to argue because the minute I said anything he didn't like such as to read the store policy online, he started taking over me. He promised to show me the store policy before I leave and after the transaction was over looked me in my face and said he didn't have it although he refused to take the tie back and made a smart comment when I requested that he take the other items which I did have the tag. He said his name was Riad refused to provide a last name or initial. But recommended that I call the manager and customer service which I did but after almost 10min on hold I hung up. Yelpers - I am curious has anyone else had a problem returning defective items to Jos A Bank? I see the store usually responds to these, so before you respond, please speak to your manager Riad (?) and help me to understand what was it about me that made him act that way and he really didn't have much to go off besides my appearance? My time has been wasted now, but I am very curious as to what stimulated his reaction? Does the store make up policies on certain people and what's that criteria. read more

I had a horrible experience at the store in Alexandria, VA. I have tried for a week to reach the manager, Andessamand. A male store rep didn't even know what a broadcloth shirt was and became argumentative. A person (Patricia) who said she was the manager on duty hung up on me. No one at the store understands professionalism, how to answer a phone, take a message, or customer service. They should all be fired. All this to purchase dress shirts. I never had this type of experience before Mens Warehouse bought the brand. I left a complaint with the 800 number for Neka (Ref 24434742). I would like to speak with Shannon Rodrigez. I'm not sure my generation even understands how rare it is to have somebody personally help you pick out the clothes that will be the right size and look good. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has done business with Jos. A. Bank past the age of 30, but we did not have a good experience. We knew better than to use them for my groomsmen's suits, but we were hoping they would be able to handle 3 suits for our junior groomsmen. Our hope was misplaced. We went with JAB because their kids' rental prices were far cheaper than the rentals for our groomsmen. It took about an hour to get everything set up in the store, as we selected one of maybe 3 options, provided names, ages, etc. We watched one of the two gentlemen in the store, both wearing ill-fitting suits, shuffle from computer to computer to enter our information. We were told the 3 kids (2 locations out of state) would need to be measured by July 4 weekend for a September 4 wedding, so we got the info to our family. No problem, they got measured ahead of the deadline. My oldest nephew is 14, but he's also 6'3", so we weren't surprised to find out he wouldn't fit into a kids' suit. We were surprised, though, that JAB couldn't match an adult suit to a kids' suit. The colors are incompatible. What?! Fine, so we had the kids switch from blue to black. Both my nephews are weeds so they are growing like crazy. My brother took them back a few weeks later to get the actual measurements for reference, and the numbers raised his eyebrow. Turns out the guy measuring my oldest nephew transposed the numbers. When this was discovered, they said, "Oh yeah that was so-and-so, he always does that." Again, what?! They got the numbers sorted out, but swung back in a week before the wedding. When he asked if they could get remeasured, JAB told him no, at that point he'll get what he gets. My nephews have grown about 8" apiece this summer, so he asked JAB what happens if the suits don't fit when he picks them up 2 days before the wedding (FYI, that is the earliest JAB would let us pick them up). JAB told him they could overnight a different suit if he brought it back in. But... the wedding was out of town, so... how was that supposed to work? Spoiler: it didn't. When my brother picked up their suits, neither fit. My oldest nephew's suit jacket was tight, but it was doable from a picture standpoint. Nothing fit my youngest nephew, and the short window JAB provided between the scheduled pickup and the wedding precluded both JAB and my family from getting suitable replacements. His shoes did not fit and JAB did not have another pair on hand to fit him, so he ended up wearing the only other pair of dress shoes they brought - a brown pair intended for the rehearsal dinner. His pants were too small, so they substituted the only "close" pair they had: tuxedo pants. His shirt was too small and JAB didn't have another one to fit him, so he wore one from Target. The jacket sleeves were too short and again, they didn't have a replacement, so... he just wore it as is. Luckily he has a mind of his own and didn't seem to mind too much, but the poor kid looked a hot mess. Do not shop JAB. Not for you. Not for your family. Not for your wedding party. On my recent trips to the Joseph A. Bank men's clothing store on Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia, I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the service and merchandise, the lack of attentiveness and the lackadaisical attitude of the salesmen and saleswomen. I purchased dress loafers, dress shirts and pants, socks, ties and blue jeans. When I returned home from this Joseph A. Bank men's clothing store, I discovered that many of the dress stockings had holes in them. The salesman who sold me the loafers failed to adequately measure the size of my feet and the size of the shoes that I needed. He sold me a 10 and a half size shoe, which turned out to be too large. When I returned the dress loafers to the Joseph A. Bank store, the salesman, my wife and I decided that I should buy a size 10 pair of loafers. He assigned the task of ringing me up to a female associate, who insisted on mailing the shoes to my residence, in stead of letting us pick them up at the store, where I could have tried them on to see if they fit. When I received the loafers in the mail, they turned out to be another 10 and a half size pair of loafers. Thus, my wife and I will have to return to Joseph A. Bank at least one more time to secure the right size shoes. In other words, the salesmen and saleswomen of the Joseph A. Bank on Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia have me running in circles fruitlessly. My impression of the employees of this Joseph A. Bank men's clothing store is that they are passive, largely go through the motions, show little courtesy, lack attention to detail and fail to do due diligence. I will never again buy dress stockings from Joseph A. Bank because of the low quality of the socks that I purchased there, quite a number of which had had holes in the fabric. I will not be buying my next pair of dress loafers at Joseph A. Bank. The management of the Joseph A. Bank on Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia needs to completely change his or her business model. Management will have to pay more attention to the quality of the merchandise, insist that salesmen and saleswomen comport themselves in a courteous manner, pay close attention to the needs and requirements of customers and do due diligence, crossing every "t" and dotting every "i." I have bought many suits, shoes and other items of clothing in the past from Joseph A. Bank both in Alexandria, Virginia and elsewhere in the country. This is my second time coming into this store. The first time there was a nice gentlemen that helped for a little bit, but then did not keep assisting. Luckily I brought some friends with me to help. I just went in for the second time hoping for better service. It took about 10 minutes for someone to offer help, he helped for a little and then went to help a customer check out even though there was another employee at the check out with no customer. I don't usually write reviews, but I had to do it for this place. I watched other customers being helped tremendously in a way I wish I were being assisted. Instead I was ignored and paid no attention to. They probably thought a woman my age did not seem like the type to spend money at a place like this. Unfortunately for them I was looking for a full suit and prepared to pay a good amount for the best fit. Awful customer service and performance that breached their promise to me. Purchased a tuxedo on March 3, with a promise from the sales consultant in consideration for the sale that the alterations would be complete by Thursday night. I stopped by the store on Saturday, two days after alterations were supposed to be complete, to pick up the tuxedo where I was told the alterations were not complete because the seamstress "just started." The sales consultant told me to come by at 3pm and it would be ready. I called at 2:50pm and was told my tuxedo would not be ready until 3:30 because they prioritized other suits before mine. Their only admirable employee is Eduardo V. who eventually called to offer to hand driver the tuxedo to my house. read more

Eduardo helped me from start to finish and let me know off the back what sales they had how I could maximize my spending there and what areas to look for. After he measured me for shirts he came up with several options, asked if there an occasion I was attending soon and helped out with accessories. Boo. We went here last month to see what we could find for the hubs. There was an advertised "Buy 1, get 2 Free" sale for all items in the store. Well, the first suit Mr. Cranky (the dour salesman) showed us was an $800 suit. Nice, but more than we had wanted to pay. (I am cheap, we went BECAUSE of the advertised sale). I about peed myself (laughing at first, ticked off later on) as my husband kept trying to explain that, because we are cheap asses, we wanted to see a $300-400 suit. Mr. Cranky looked at us as if we were insane, and proceeded to explain that, by purchasing the $900 suit he was showing us, we would be getting THREE suits for $300 each. A BARGAIN! Well. Yes. But as I mentioned earlier, we are cheap. We again told him we were looking to purchase a suit in the $400-500 range (and, AS ADVERTISED, receive 2 suits "free"). This guy then proceeded to tell me and the hubs that there were NO suits in the store for $400 or less. Oh really? Because I can see the tag of the suit right behind you, AND IT SAYS $395. What an arse. I get trying to upsell, I do. And I'm not sure what the commission on $395 is, but I know what it is on $0. Seeya. (We ended up going to Men's Wearhouse on Jefferson Davis Hwy. Like the other 2 reviews here, I did not have a great experience here. I was in need of some new suits, so why not go to a store that advertises buy 1 get 2 free. They did the same thing to me as they did to Annie and her husband. I did not need a $800 suit, I needed a $350 suit. Actually, I needed 3 of them. After several conversations with staff members, they finally came around to my thinking. I can live with the whole trying to get me to buy a more expensive suit thing, but the main thing that really pissed me off was the prices to have suits tailored. Holy F'ing Cow!! At Men's Wear house this is included in the price. Well, it was a few years ago in San Diego where I bought it. Any how, the whole tailoring experience sucked big time!! I had a very pleasant experience buying a sports coat and button down. I had a very nice woman approach me after about 15sec in the store and she knew exactly where the coats I needed were and knew what to grab for me. She assisted politely with pulling them, helping me try them on, and placing them back. She also helped me pick out a matching button down. I will say as we were checking out, there were two dudes talking and one of which with a beard was going on obnoxiously loud about Narcos and if the other dude had seen it. That's fine but with a customer nearby you could be a little more discrete and not be in absolute disregard. Narcos is a dope show tho. I came back here to return the shirt I didn't like and the SAME woman was working and greeted me then asked me what she could help me with and I said I only wanted to return the shirt. She then looked down and went over to a coworker who was helping someone else and said something then went back to her chair and didn't say anything to me.... I stood there for 30sec not knowing what the heck was going on. Really disappointed in the customer service, it's a whole service not just sales! read more

First, lets face it. These are not $800-$900 suits.. That's crazy. The only reason you're getting any kind of deal is because you're getting 3 suits and a coat for that 800-900 bucks.. luckily I actually needed multiple suits. The second major issue, is that very few of these suits are in any way modern or stylish. The great majority of the suits are styled for older or government type customers. Even the supposed slim-line cuts aren't really all that slim. The staff is helpful in finding suit jackets that fit, the MAJOR problem I have, is that they sell you these suit combos and/or whatever pants they have available in the store. There's only so much tailoring you can do to a pair of pants that are like 6 or 8 sizes too big. When you do that, you end up looking like you're wearing bell bottoms and the butt/hips end up looking baggy if not tailored correctly. So I bought the three suits: One I almost never wear because the tailoring they did to the over sized pants makes me look like I'm wearing bell bottoms. One is decent and the third I actually like, only because it was the slim-line, which for them means it looks semi-tailored. Unfortunately, within about two weeks, I had to get one pair of pants re-hemmed because the hemming on one of the legs came out and the permanent crease on one pair of pants is coming out (which I had to pay extra for). I'd had already gone to the store like 3 times to get readjustments on the fitting because they hadn't done the tailoring right on the first occasion and on the second the tailor wasn't in to refit me, so I kept having to return to the store.. I gave up and took my stuff to a tailor around the corner to have it fixed. Out of all of this... the one item that I actually really like and have had no problems with... is the coat that I didn't even need at the time. A little advice: A week later I bought a gray Kenneth Cole suit at Burlington for like $140, found the same suit on Amazon for about the same price in black, and had them both tailored for next to nothing and they're look and fit much better than anything from Jos A Banks. Save your money and go to a department store to buy your suits and just tailor them! read more

In a nutshell - STRIKE 1 - The sales people don't speak English and apparently don't know store policy regarding tailoring and returns. STRIKE 2 - The store is way too crowded and difficult to get around (not to mention not laid out very well and difficult to self-navigate). STRIKE 3 - The store manager talks in circles and is condescending. Take the extra 20 minutes and schlep down to Montgomery County needs to be on corporate's radar, it's awful. read more

My friend and I recently went to this store to be fitted for some suits. Typically, we have a hard time getting fitted due to the nature of our frames. This was not the case this time.... Mr. Rick Cherry welcomed us into the store and graciously used his years of experience to satisfy each of our needs. SARA SAY'S: I venture here on the rare occasion my husband suit shops.They are always having some kind of buy one get two free promotion but be prepared to be up-sold...they do work on commission I believe. However we have always gotten great service with gentlemen who seem to know what they are talking about. They have varying quality levels of suits so you have to know what your getting but the suits are good enough quality for the everyday suit. Other than on-site tailoring if you are looking for custom suits, go somewhere else. We were looking for a regular white sear sucker suit for the Gold Cup and walked out with three suits, a sport coat, two ties, and two shirts. Total retail if bought separately would be over $2,500 and we only paid about $1,100 which included tailoring for each piece. It is not 5 star because they do not offer custom suits and even the highest quality suit you can buy is not the best materials offered in suits. read more

Awful customer service experience! I came in last week and told them I have a sales conference on Tuesday, so they told me to come Monday after 7pm. I arrived at 715pm to be told that nothing was ever started. I was real confused! Then the manager, Dino, told me to put on the jacket. All of a sudden he says the jacket doesn't need any alterations! ...But I paid $159 for alterations and now all of a sudden, I don't need them?! I called them out on their bullshit, called Corporate to make a complaint, and they just lost a customer for life! The manager and store associates were awful to work with. After much shopping around, my hard to fit (really tall and thin) now-husband bought his tux for our wedding at Jos. A. Banks. They had the best looking tux for the price. We worked with Clinton Marshall who was very friendly and accommodating. We arranged for our Best Man's tux to be shipped to a story near him in Illinois and also purchased all of the accessories (studs, cuff links, suspenders, bow ties, etc.) from this store location. We did not use their tailoring services because my husband wanted to use his tailor. Our Best Man did have modest tailoring done to his tux but that was at a different store location. We had one last minute hiccup with the tux shirt - it was late coming in and didn't end up fitting properly. They accepted it back as a return and we found a Plan B. read more

************** Update 9/15/2015: After speaking with the manager, I was informed that suits that are offered during occasional sales do not have the waist sewn in. This only happens with the higher quality suits which are not sold on discount. As for the other issues, these were corrected. ************** An Update about recent purchase: On September 3, I place my arm into my brand new "$750+" charcoal suit jacket and the left sleeve lining came out. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the sewing on the sleeves (which were sent in to alterations to be slightly elongated) were improperly sewn for a suit. The stitching was left exposed with very little slack in the lining. This meant that every time I placed an arm into the jacket, as well as when my arms would swing as I walked, undue friction was placed against the stitching. Proper stitching, which can be seen on the unaltered Jos A Banks coats (or any department store suit with lining), is sewn so the stitching is not exposed. As a result of this and poor sewing, one month of occasional wear led to the lining on the left sleeve of my most recently acquired suit to fall out. Also, the stitching on the right sleeve showed signs of coming loose. I then began to closely inspect every item sent in for alterations from the three suits purchased and altered in June and July. What I found was startling and left me dismayed about the quality of service provided by Jos A Bank's alteration services. All three pairs of pants had to have the waist brought in. On every single one, the alteration services did not properly resew the waist back together. Only one single stitch was placed every couple of inches around the waist to hold the pants together. Additionally, threading at the bottom of each pant leg was poorly done, with the worst example being on the charcoal suit (photo: the fabric was clearly coming undone). To verify that I was not crazy, I pulled out a pair of $60 Banana Republic pants that were purchased three years ago to compare. These pants clearly had the lining in the waist properly sewn together as well as demonstrated superior stitching at the bottom of the pant leg. As I paid approximately $500 dollars for alterations on the suits, this level of quality is unacceptable. On Saturday, September 3, I took the articles of clothing (1 suit and 2 pants) into Jos A Banks and spoke with the Sales Associate, as well as one of their seamstress. When I showed them the stitching, they agreed that it should be fixed (the seamstress appeared to find the alteration work humorous). I went through each of the defects with the seamstress at the store and she assured me that she would fix the issues, as well as inspect the articles to ensure that there were not any other areas that needed to be fixed. When asked when I needed the suit, I told her and the Sales Associate that I will leave it with the store for as long as it takes to fix correctly. The seamstress told me that she could fix the issues and have it ready by September 12. On Sunday, September 13, I returned to Jos A Banks to pick up my clothing. My usual Sales Associate was not there that day, but another was able to bring my suit to me. When I looked at the coat sleeve, the seamstress had merely reattached the lining that had come loose and nothing else. The right sleeve still had some stitching that was clearly coming loose. Inspection of the pants revealed that the waist was properly sewn, but that the stitching at the bottom of the pants remained untouched, as the fabric was still in its partially undone state. Based on the inspection of the suit, I did not bother inspecting the other two pants. I brought the suit coat to the seamstress's attention (the same one I spoke to the week earlier). When I asked about the sleeve, she told me that she sewed the lining back in as I had asked. When I told her how the entire point of me bringing in the suit was to have the lining sewed properly and pointed to the closest suit on the wall as an example, she said that that's how they sew the lining when they make alterations. As additional proof, she showed me the suit jacket of another customer that was altered at the sleeves. This coat's sleeve was sewn the same way as mine, with the stitching exposed with no visible slack in the lining. I also pointed to the stitching in the right sleeve and said how it was not touched although it is clearly coming undone. She told me that it was not coming undone and pulled at one of the loose threads. This caused the thread to pull away from the lining even more, undoing some stitches. At this, the seamstress took the coat into the back to resew the thread, and then returned with the coat to say it is fixed. Due to the lack of care by the seamstress to fix the issues that were clearly identified a week earlier, I elected to not pick up my clothing until I have the opportunity to speak to the Manager. read more

They convinced me it is time to go back to Nordstrom or Neiman's for clothes. My husband and two grown sons needed suits, and sports coats and slacks in 12 days. Rick thoughtfully and tastefully fitted all three men. He promised alterations in 12 days. A few days later my husband died unexpectedly. When I called Rick, he first offered his condolences, and then took my husband's purchases back without question. We first visited the store on June 21st to select suits for our wedding party (12 suits total). Ironically, we selected this store because we'd visited the store at Pentagon City mall a few weeks earlier and the staff there were not at all helpful... We returned to the store on June 26th to purchase all 12 suits (with sizes for 10/12 suits in hand). We paid over $3,000.00 for the 12 suits at that time. My partner called the associate we worked with with the the final two sizes when they came in. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, we visited the store again in person at the end of August. With another copy of the size list. We were told that "almost all of the suits were here". "I'll ship next week," they said. And then next week turned in to next month. Our wedding party finally received their suits the week of October 5th. Great we thought! We're done! Um, wrong. Almost ALL of the wedding party was shipped the wrong sizes. Since they live all over the country, it wasn't like they could just swap easily. Therefore, almost all of them had to find a Jos. A. Bank store near their home, go in once to drop of the size that didn't fit, and now have to go back to pick up the new suit when it comes in. ANNOYING! All with just a few weeks to go before our wedding, when folks don't need something else to hassle with before travel. I understand in Jos A. Bank's eyes we got a great "deal" on each suit. Whatever. I have a degree in marketing. I'm not dumb. And when someone spends $3,000 + at your business, they have a right to expect that you'll take care of their order in a timely and correct fashion. If you are shopping for a wedding party, give yourselves LOTS of time. My bridal gown came in faster than the suits did. read more

First time I went here - in and out for two shirt, no issues. Second time, I was handled by a salesperson "Ed", who has got to be the worst. I knew the exact tuxedo I was looking for, with flat front pants. They did not have my 42R with a flat front so I said I was happy to order it. He spent 15 minutes trying to convince me to go with the pleated until I had to get a little snippy. Finally, we ordered the flat front, and when I came back to try it on some days later, I did so and its was pleated again! He never checked it. Since I was under a time constraint, he pulled a 43R pair and sent me into the tailor room - he said we would size the 43 pants. After I came out of the tailor room with marked up pants, NOW he tells me they can't split a size 43 pair, and they will have to order it AGAIN. So I had to order it again, and come again to try it on, etc. The store itself is nice, but as one person mentioned before, very crowed and busy on weekends. I had a much better experience recently buying 3 new suits and a competitor - they were much more on the ball (Mens Wrhs in Springfield.) read more

I must say, I was very impressed with sales executive, Tewodros (Teddy)G. at the Alexandria location. It had been quite a while since I had bought a new suit, and given the fact that I don't wear a suit for my occupation, my formal wardrobe was in a desperate need of an update. My previous suits had been custom made for me many years ago, but I didn't feel inclined to take the time to get fitted for custom work, so I figured I give Jos. A. Bank a try and am very glad I did. I feel very fortunate and extremely lucky that I was helped by Teddy. Teddy is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about his product. He was able to put together combinations of suit, shirt and tie that just blew me away. He spent over 2 hours with me as he patiently and methodically picked out shirts and ties and then he would explain why the combination worked or didn't work together. He is truly an artist. The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming and the store seemed to have a great selection of suits and other items. Since I'm one of those people that dislike to shop, it was nice to have Teddy's undivided attention. He made the shopping experience exciting and provided excellent customer service. read more
