As soon as you walk in you can see and feel the history , with vintage art work and signs displayed everywhere. I loved it , we all ordered different omelettes . My goodness I never can finish my plate but I sure did this time . It was loaded with crispy bacon , mushrooms and jalapeños, I'll be dreaming of it till we can come back to this town and eat here again. We're in Taft for the "Oildorado" festival, and Jo's Restaurant was one of the recommended place to dine, so we did. It's our first at Jo's the food is delicious, the service was good, we had to wait for a little bit but it's worth it. The food I'm sorry was not good at all I got French toast and hashbrowns they I ask to be well done but we're not they were under cooked and not good. The Frenchtoast was cold and tasted like it was old and that it was placed under a heat lamp for to long very rubbery. I will not be coming back this establishment. The waitress was waiting for over 20 mins for my food to be done even tho I called ahead 15 before I got there. So yes my experience wasn't the best at all. read more

Usually don't write bad reviews but this place is just drab and dirty. One of the waitresses treats her tables like they're on a conveyor belt, the food is nothing more than run of the mill, and the decorations are held on the walls by cooking grease. As with The Same Place in Taft, only good reviews come from old people that are set in their ways and do the same thing 7 days a week. read more

So I was working out in Taft and found this nice little Diner via yelp . My co worker and I were craving chicken fried and Jo's definitely delivered. The gravy was on point the chicken fried steak nice and golden brown. I didn't take pictures of my buddy's food but he had a smorgasbord our the table . He got the chicken fried steak along with a side of biscuits and gravy and French toast that all looked amazing. I had the chicken fried steak with hash browns a side of bacon and sourdough toast , boy did it hit the spot! Our waitress was nice and attentive kept our coffee cups full. I really want to rate Jo's higher. It is a great little breakfast joint and we come here often, but the service has been a hit or miss lately depending on who we get. There is one waitress in particular who just comes off as she hates her job but says the right things. She says the things she's trained to say, but her tone is condescending. The food is good. It can get busy, which speaks to how the locals love the place, but pretty decent at getting people in and out. However, the one waitress is such a turn off to the place. read more

My wife & I came to Jo's for lunch, the environment was friendly w/ very efficient & courteous wait staff. Time to be served was reasonable as well. Great value for the $$, but I had the tri-tip sandwich which (due to meat juices), made the grilled sourdough a bit soggy. Still tasted good, but could not eat it AS a sandwich. The manager at Holland Inn recommended this place for breakfast and after reading the reviews on Yelp - especially the chicken fried steak breakfast- looked forward to trying it out. There is a small parking lot to the side and street parking. Upon entering the restaurant I was taken in with the charm and originality of the place with its oil field murals and wall decor celebrating the oil field history of the area. The place also had charming St. Patrick's Day decorations everywhere in preparation for the upcoming holiday. I would love to see how they decorate for the other holidays! It's open seating the the waitress was quick to give us our menus and see what we would like to drink. Of course I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs over easy with cowboy potatoes and sour dough bread. My husband ordered the Denver omelette also with cowboy potatoes and sourdough bread. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I had ever tasted mostly due to the gravy but the steak itself was a little over done. The over easy eggs were perfect, the cowboy potatoes had a nice flavor and the sourdough bread was perfectly buttered and soft. I regret to say that I believe my husband's Denver omelette tasted better than my breakfast. The ingredients were fresh with a nice flavor and the omelet was fluffy. I'm skittish to order omelettes because I'm usually disappointed but his was great. read more

This is a must go place if you want to eat in Taft! It is the epitome me of what a diner should be. It is cute and quaint and the food is really good. Everyone was so super friendly! I actually was not expecting the food to be good and I was very surprised. I had some order envy of my son's double bacon cheeseburger. I ordered a traditional club with no mayo. That was pretty basic but that's what I was going for because I was sharing with a two-year-old. The fries were so good! It made it hard to just eat a few. I really want to come back for breakfast. We made the trip to Taft for Thai food but they weren't open and we were hungry so we stopped here. The food was great and so was the service. Real comfort food. My husband had the chicken fried steak and I had the Philly steak sandwich. My husband loved the chicken fried steak. One of the best he has had. The Philly steak sandwich didn't look that impressive but it was REALLY good. So I guess that is where we will eat the next time we end up in the area. read more

We stopped by here for breakfast after a doctors appt. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Cute restaurant and it seems family friendly. I lived in Taft for many years and never stopped by here until AFTER moving out of Taft. The food is really good and and it has FLAVOR. They actually season their food, which is actually rare to find at bfast places. My husband had the chicken fried steak and ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. Like a home style cafe is supposed to be. It is small with local decor and local patrons. The portions are just right and the food is made to order. I've been here a few times. While in Taft overnight, I wanted a good breakfast place and Jo's is it. It is open for breakfast and lunch only. It closes, I believe, at 2 PM. I had an omlette, ham and cheese, potato, and toast. This was just fine. It has inside some stuff from the oil drilling business which I think keeps Taft going. The town is around 10,000 and is a sleepy little town. Come here for breakfast. read more

My husband and I went there after a Sunday morning sidecar ride. I love breakfast and Jo's didn't disappoint. I had the usual fare of eggs over medium, hash browns and sausage with a biscuit and gravy. The eggs were prepared perfect (many times at other places they are runny!) the potatoes were great and the sausage had such a great flavor. The biscuit was fluffy and the gravy delicious. My husband had the cowboy potatoes and next time I am getting those. Very flavorful with onion and bell pepper. The coffee was great, the service was excellent. Love the food. We're so at home here. It's like gathering around the kitchen table. Loretta always finds a minute to visit. Soups are excellent all made from scratch. The only thing they could improve on is stay open later. Jo's closes at 2:00pm. They have different specials everyday. I really enjoy that they serve breakfast until closing time. I found myself in Taft for an unexpected business trip. Had to interview someone who had no choice about his accommodations. Come lunch time I was driving down the Main Street of town looking for a good restaurant. I saw a friendly restaurant with a lot of cars in the parking lot. I wasn't disappointed. The interior has the history of the oil industry on the walls. It has a 1960's atmosphere. The food was how you wanted your mother to cook but didn't know how. The waitress was super helpful as was the entire staff. Not likely I will be back this way again. If it happens this will definitely be on my agenda. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Just came through after almost 10 years. My family and I (before my step father passed) would come to practically every Sunday after church. I was very disappointed in the service and the food. The waitress, who was hard to understand but I'm not holding that against her, was very pushy for us to order. She asked us 4 times at least in the span of at the very most 10 minutes if we were ready to order and becoming more impatient each time even though we were trying to be apologetic and nice about it. By the forth (maybe fifth? Not sure..) time we said screw it and just jumped to order what we had to settle on. The wait for the food wasn't long at all. I had been cautiously checking my food as I started eating until I got to the bottom layer of fries where a very thin, very light, hair had been wrapped around two fries, and I kid you not I almost threw up on the table. Add insult to injury that the cost for three meals, a side of wasted sausage due to the hair ruining all of our appetites, and three sodas came to $40 dollars. On top of all that, the only thing offered was a replacement meal and a muttered weak apology. Because that's totally what I want is another hair covered meal. My boyfriend's mother went to pay the meal and the lady who rang her up just shook her off and said nothing about it and went ahead and charged full price for that appetite ruining slop. Never going back. This place is going to hell just like the rest of the town. read more
