We stopped here for lunch while on a road trip. First time in Taft so used Yelp to look for a place to eat. We got the special of the day which was tacos with rice and beans. Got chicken and ground beef tacos, both awful. Even the waitress said the chicken breast tacos were hard to chew. The ground beef didn't really taste like beef, had a weird flavor and texture. Rice tasted like it was out of a box without flavor. We were charged 3 dollars to use an our debit card. The only good I can say is that their bathrooms were clean. read more

In search of a good wet burrito in Taft. Had lunch with a friend here last week and we decided on this place because he liked the chips better than other mexican food places in town. Our server brought each of us a small dish of salsa and a basket of chips, both were good. I opted for the ale carte asada burrito which comes wet. It was pretty tasty. The best in town? Wow! I visited Taft because my son's team baseball team played here today. I yelped restaurants and we chose La Salsa. We walked in and three staff said hello and welcomed us immediately. Chips and salsa came immediately with drinks and menus. Service was quick and so efficient. I had the #5 as is and it was so good. My son had the steak quesadilla and could not finish it all. When I declined a last refill on my iced tea our waitress said "how about one to go?" It made my day as I had not even mentioned to her I had a 5 hour drive back to Las Vegas. read more

Oh man this place was awesome! 2 item combo for $12, good music, and a friendly atmosphere. You can bring the kids here and have a great time. As soon as we were seated I knew we made the right choice coming here . The decor and friendliness of the staff was so nice ! You just know the foods gonna be good when the salsa is top notch ! Stopped in on my way through Taft. Immediately upon being seated, we were given chips and salsa. The salsa was very good. It had good chunks onion and tomatoes, and it wasn't too spicy. I ordered the Cabo San Lucas Enchilada combo. It really held its heat, but it was so good. The fish was tender and there was enough shrimp in every bite! It was also topped with a sour cream sauce....mmm! The rice and beans were just as good as most authentic Mexican restaurants. Which brings me to my husband's order, which was the cheese enchilada combo. He's an enchilada guy and he feels La Salsa's enchilada was pretty good, which brings him back and ordering the same thing. Our server was also very nice! She was attentive and provided us refills before we had to ask. The restroom is also very clean. Overall, this is a good restaurant in Taft. read more

Their ceviche tostada and deep fried ice cream absolutely delicious. It's definitely worth the drive. I highly recommend it.

The chili Verde enchiladas are out of this world. The beans and rice have a taste. That is amazing. Very nice staff.

One of those only places open on a Monday night at 6pm! Our table vibrated the whole time. Which was odd. They got busy all of a sudden so our server was very rushed when dealing with us. She was nice though. Margaritas were not good. Micheladas were okay. Enchiladas, rice and beans were amazing! Tacos were soggy. Amazing chips and salsa. Do not come in here as a single diner. You'll be the red headed stepchild double! They make it pretty obvious that they don't want you in there as they quickly make a table for you on one of the throwaway tables. La Salsa in Taft, CA makes a couple of items which are probably my favorite that I have ever tried anywhere. So what are they? I am a fan of their Fish tacos and Shrimp tacos! Most restaurants serve fish tacos with little pieces of breaded fish. At La Salsa, they grill the fish. It is a good size filet that they place in that fish taco, and it tastes awesome with all the trimmings! The Shrimp tacos are also flavorful with a generous portion of shrimp inside. If you are a fan of these two kinds of tacos, then you should try La Salsa. I've tried other entrees here, but I am not as crazy about the other food I have eaten. Still, I have not tried anything bad either. Definitely give La Salsa a chance if you are in Taft. Don't let the dated look of the restaurant scare you away. They make good food. read more

This place has great food and great service! Was in Taft for a roller derby tournament. We were hungry and dehydrated. Our party of 20 received such great service. Staff was super friendly, accommodating, and quick. Our food was served, quick, hot, and really good. I brought in my own salad that I had been trying to eat all day, but when I saw they had vegetarian fajitas I decided to go with them. The vegetarian fajitas was FULL of veggies : broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, tomatos. So many veggies for this vegan!! WOULD look forward to eating here again when in Taft! read more

Pretty substandard Mexican food. Nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal, and the staff is very kind. But the food just really takes this place down. Ordered a California burrito special. Would only come with shredded chicken, shredded beef, or ground beef. No substitute on the meat. Okay, would prefer something else, at least grilled chicken. But since I'm a sucker for the CA burrito, and am currently on a mission to find the best one, I went ahead and ordered it. It was not only the worst CA burrito I've had, but it was one of the worst burritos I've had. Didn't even have the standard ingredient that would make it a CA burrito: french fires. Not sure why those were absent. The chicken looked like something out of a can. It was the strangest shredded chicken I've ever seen. Very bland, no flavor. The whole burrito had a Velveeta taste to it. It tasted and looked cheaply made. I was super disappointed. There is much better Mexican food in town (Casa Tabares). But like I said, a nice place on the inside, and friendly staff. read more

Our motel desk clerk recommended this as the only Mexican restaurant in Taft with seafood on the menu. We're glad they told us-- our camarones rancheras were delicious, with lots of peppers and onions in a fresh-tasting sauce. Very generous portions, too, and good margaritas. If you get salad, order the yummy pepita dressing, with cilantro and I forget what else in it: so good we smooshed the last drops onto tortillas. We shared a tasty flan, too. Today I made an order that totaled $94 and some change. When I went to pick up I used a $100 gift card. For some reason the card kept declining. Then he asked me if I wanted him to just charge me $90 and I said no because it's $94. So I called the gift card place to see what the issue was thought maybe I didn't activate it correctly. Well the rep told me that the restaurant was trying to charge me 20% for gratuity and it was coming out to $113 and some change. I asked the guy at the restaurant if he was trying to do that and he said no I'm just charging you the $94. I told him again well the rep is saying you are so I will pay with cash. I had no problem paying the gratuity but the fact that he WASNT upfront about it he was trying to be sneaky about it. I get it we are in hard times but to me felt that this was a very shady move. We had heard this was a great spot and it lived up to the hype. Especially the salsa, yum, not sure what the secret ingredients are but it was very tasty . We got there about 4:30 so we beat the crowd, thankfully because we were hungry. The whole staff was very friendly! They seated us right away. There was 7 of us . I had the grilled chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and I wish I had them now , it was sooo good! Easy parking, great atmosphere and very clean . The only way that this place could have gotten to 4.5 stars is with the help of friends and family reviewing for them. 1. My albondigas had frozen veggies put into a frozen stock with frozen meatballs that was then heated up. I told the waiter that the meatballs were hard and Inedible. He said he was going to talk to the chef, but only came back with the bill. When paying I told him the veggies had no flavor like they were frozen and just heated up, he said"yep." 2. Tacos were just OK. 3. The rice was kinda hard like it was old or microwaved and the beans tasted old. 4.5 The best thing about this place is the liquor and salsa. If you want to get the 4.5 star experience here just eat the salsa and get a couple of mixed drinks. Taft=2 stars, anywhere else would be 1 star. read more

I have always been happy when I go to La Salsa. They have great Mexican food that they serve in large portions and they're flavors are very consistent. The staff is always friendly. I normally come here around lunch time and on a normal day I'll have my food with 10-15 minute after ordering it. The venue itself isn't anything special, but they keep it clean. Hot and it's not even summer yet. The place is very clean, the folks are very sweet. I opted for tacos and though hesitated about ordering seafood out here, they did not disappoint. The grilled tilapia and shrimp were both nicely seasoned and actually cooked perfectly as if it was fresh. I'm a big fan of Mexican (& Spanish) rice. I couldn't finish the boiled beans but also very good. Best item for me was the homemade salsa and chips. The salsa had a chipotle little kick. Loved it so much I ordered a salsa to go. He asked me if I wanted a 16 oz or 32 oz. I was surprised to find he put it in styrofoam cup. That was actually a great idea for the 4-hr trip home. Kudos to this place! read more

The food is very good but there are some downsides to other things in the restaurant. Usually we get this very sweet lady as a waiter but today we got a different waiter who pushes prices and really hussles you. She told my kid she can't eat off the kid menu because of how tall she is. My cousin usually orders a quesadilla with shrimp. She tried to charge 7.00$ for FOUR pieces of shrimp. Not sure her name but she has a short straight blonde pony tail and clear brimmed glasses. read more
