Boqueria was a quick and clean eating lunchtime! I'll never get how the portion sizes at Tapas restaurants are perfectly proportioned, but I felt satisfied, and not full, which was amazing! From the outside, this location looks small, but from the inside, the vibe does NOT disappoint! Comfortable bar chairs, high-seating chairs, and a great place for team lunches during the week and Happy Hours after work!

I came here before the big winter storm that came and they had a great experience. For those subscribed to their marketing they had an all day happy hour on a Saturday so my friends and I shared many different dishes. We had the croquettes, patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo (my favorite), calamari (not that good), and churros. They even made us churros without cinnamon for my friend who is allergic. The service otherwise was okay but I would come back again because it was a big day the next day weather wise. The ambiance is great although it is more crowded. I do prefer the pen quarter location but for anyone who is a fan of Spanish food, this is a great option!

My second time @ Boqueria! My first time dining was at one of their NYC locations. I re-ordered their Mac and cheese and ham & cheese croquets, while trying their ENTRAÑA A LA PARRILLA. I had previously ordered MONTADO DE BISTEC Y CHORIZO, so I had high hopes for the main entree. The steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor without the Chimichurri, but Chimichurri and carrot puree were nice supplements. The mac and cheese was a little too buttery and runny for me. The pasta was drowning in more butter than cheese, but I had really enjoyed it the first time I had it...maybe it was just an off batch ‍ Overall, though, Boqueria is a fun tapas place. Dining here won't be life changing, but it will be enjoyable and delish :)

Solid spot - a dependable spot and checks off the boxes for 1. great space for large groups 2. great menu with shared plates 3. accommodates to different diets/allergies well 4. good food with something for everyone I booked a work lunch reservation for a party of 14! So choosing "The Classics" set menu from the Chef's Menu section was the way to go. It made it easy to not have to decide what to order; tapas just kept coming out :D I did feel like the first several bites were carb-based: a lot of potatoes and breads. The paella as the last savory course was great! They even give dessert with the Classics tasting menu. We were all SO full. For $52 we each get sooo much food, which takes out the decision making and allows one to try over 10 different dishes. It's well worth it. Come hungry!!!

There's a vibe here for SURE! We came on a Tuesday night (before the government shutdown of 2025) and it was PACKED! The music was awesome & the service was excellent! The food was hood to us but I can see some people maybe not liking some of it because it's not your usual serving sizes. It's Tapas, which is like appetizer size and most of them were great. Here's the breakdown: - Pan con tomate - A no-go. It literally tastes like wet bread with tomato - Ensalada Cesar - Good but a bit dry (large portion) - Croquetas Jamon - Okay but a very small piece of ham inside & not what we expected, at all. The puree lost us - Choripan - Very good tastes like the real Choripans - Calamares - Great & tasty - Coca de Costillas - Very good & tasty flatbread Overall, there's a lot of ham in the menu so if you're not a pork eater, beware. The drinks were great!

A group os us (all family members) came in on a busy Saturday night for small plates, lots of fun drinks, and plenty of chit chat. The staff was great! Very attentive and friendly. The plates we ordered would be made and come out in relatively quick time and were all piping hot and fresh too. We enjoyed their menu, they have all the items you'd expect from a Spanish tapas place. We tried many items, some standouts were: * the Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, along with the Aged Manchego * their Gambas al ajillo had a great sauce, though I do wish the dish was spicier * Montado de Bistec y Chorizo was really tasty! * Their Mariscos Paella was spot on! The texture of the rice was exactly what it should be (and what I crave when desiring paella) and all the seafood in it was fresh and very nicely done. I will say the flavor of the Pan Con Tomate had a nice flavor and the color was great, but it was way too soggy. We've had this (tomato bread) many times in Spain and it was never this soggy. The venue is nicely laid out to accommodate small and large groups. Their sangria was so very good that we ordered a few pitchers! We even enjoyed sharing the porrón along with a nice Spanish white wine. Definitely would return!

Had a really good experience here during their weekend happy hour. We ordered a bunch of tapas, a pitcher of sangria, and a couple of espresso martinis. Everything was good. Plus, the bartender took great care of us and pay attention to us at all times. He would regularly swing around and pour us more sangria and see if we needed anything else. For happy hour, for a picture of sangria, it was only $32. What a steal. And, after coming from bottomless brunch, and feeling nothing, I immediately started to feel buzzed after two glasses. And they were small glasses. Here's what we had: Pan con tomate: delicious! One piece for $2 Croquetas de setas: so good and addicting. We had to order a few orders of these. I can't remember if they were eight or nine dollars for three, but they were worth it. Bocadito de jamon: really good. Surprisingly filling. I really enjoyed eating this. They're limited bathrooms, but they were pretty clean for the most far. Occasionally, you run into a line, but it was never too long. We rolled in at around three or four and were able to enjoy happy hour for another hour. Double check their hours. That said, when we rolled in, there was no weight and there were open spots at the bar. I appreciate that they have hooks under the bar for purses as well. I will absolutely return.

DC is surprisingly quite the saturated market when it comes to Spanish tapas, with Barcelona Wine Bar and Jaleo coming top of mind. Located near the iconic Dupont Circle, Boqueria features a street-level entrance framed by fun red-and-white signage beneath understated awnings. There's ample patio space outside, and inside, you're greeted by a vibrant, Barcelona-style tapas bar showing off artisan cheeses and of course, freshly sliced jamon iberico. The layout features a long marble-topped central bar with counter-height seating surrounded by wood-paneled walls lined with wine bottles and drop lighting that gives off a warm, intimate glow. The atmosphere is buzzy, if a bit loud. Our party of three made a reservation for 6pm on a Sunday night (it can get busy), but at that time, the space was only half-full. We were immediately led to a cozy booth with high-top seating, although the tables felt a bit cramped. The menu has plenty of different options for everyone, ranging from the classic Spanish hams and cheeses to vegetables to proteins like seafood and meat. They recommend ordering 2-3 tapas per person, which we found fairly reasonable for 3 hungry girls. We started off with their Truffle Goat Cheese ($9 for 3pcs) and Jamon Serrano ($12) - it's cheaper to get their charcuterie in sets of 3 or 6, but since we wanted to try other dishes, we just ordered a la carte. The jamon is aged 16 months, ane appreciated that it wasn't overly salty, and it paired nicely with the bread. I think our server got confused and accidentally brought out their 12-Month Aged Manchego instead of the goat cheese at first, so she ended up giving it to us for free too. The manchego had a nutty flavor almost bordering on sweet, and it was quite mild. The truffle goat cheese was much tangier with a distinct umami truffle flavor, though we didn't love the semi-hard texture. Additionally, I don't know whether it was because it was a hot day outside (though we were inside) or if they have temperature control issues, but the cheese was served almost warm, which made it overly greasy to the point where it was almost off-putting. Each plate only had three small slices of cheese on it, so I don't think it was a great value, although we did appreciate that each was served with a couple pieces of (albeit stale) bread, pungent hot peppers, and a really great apricot/quince jam. We then moved onto their Ensalada de Bruselas ($15), which is a brussels sprout salad with "Shaved brussels sprouts, Manchego cheese, green apple, dried cranberries, shaved almonds, and a citrus vinaigrette." This was actually quite a tasty salad - it looks overly heavy with a generous topping of thinly shaved Manchego cheese, but the bitter earthiness of the shaved sprouts with the acidity of the cheese and tart green apple pair quite nicely, with the shaved almonds providing a great textural contrast. The dried cranberries also lend a lovely sweetness, and the citrus vinaigrette was tangy without being too oily. Their Albondigas ($17) are four plump beef and pork meatballs served in a tomato sauce topped with sheep's milk cheese and chives. While the meatballs were tender and flavorful, with the sauce tasting like a Spanish marinara and the cheese providing an acidic richness along with the fresh chives, we found the portion a bit small for the price. The Patatas Bravas ($13.5) came highly recommended to us, and it's easy to see why: they're crispy smashed-then-fried potatoes with a complex salsa brava and pimentón (smoked paprika), all topped with a generous drizzle of rich garlic allioli. It's a delectable mix of textures and flavors, and while it's one of the most expensive potato dishes I've tried, I do think it's on their happy hour menu for a more reasonable price. Lastly, their Datiles con Beicon ($10) are succulent bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with almonds and Valdeón blue cheese. These were heaven in a bite: sweet dates wrapped with crispy, fatty bacon, and tangy, melty blue cheese in the center. We didn't really taste the almonds, but it was still one of the best bites of the night - enough to justify paying the exorbitant price of $10 for 3 dates, in my opinion. The other two members of my party wanted to order dessert, so they tried the Tarta Vasca de Chocolate ($12), which is a Basque chocolate cheesecake (think the ones with the slightly burnt top) with macerated strawberries and chantilly cream. Ironically, this was the largest portioned item of the night, and my companions appreciated that it was a rich, sumptuous cheesecake without being overly sweet. Overall, Boqueria was solid if not stellar: everything on the menu is on the pricier side, so I would try to go for happy hour (3-6pm every day) or use the inKind app to snag great deals and/or 20% inKind cash back on your order. Service was kind if a bit slow, and there are a couple standout dishes (the dates and the patatas), but I don't think it's my top choice for tapas in DC.

Loved loved loved Boqueria! The food, service, and ambiance were perfect! We got everything on the happy hour menu, minus the meatballs. It was a beautiful date night, and the service was top-notch. We didn't have a reservation, so we were able to eat at the bar. Many servers attended to us, and honestly, it was so lovely!

Came to Boqueria for a lunch. We were seated outside. We ordered the lunch special that gives you 2 tapas per person for $24. Our table of 3 shared a total of 6 tapas. The meatballs were my least favorite option as they were slightly bland and a tad dry. The potato dish had crispy hunks of potato with aioli on top. The roasted veggie dish was topped with fresh herbs and I liked the toasted bread that came with it. It was a fairly good option for lunch, but not an over abundance of food.

Had Open Table reservations 2 weeks in advance for my besties birthday weekend in DC.. 7:30 reservations- the place was packed. Waited 10 minutes for a table. Understood on a Saturday night. Vibrant decor, loud atmosphere music lots of people talking. Love the comfortable high top tables and booths. The waiter was friendly and up beat and very personable which made or dinner do enjoyable . We ordered an assortment of tapas but the paella and the fresh cut meat and cheese platter was the best. I love this place!

Tapas were great, and the seafood paella was awesome. Best paella I've ever had, so was the aioli... Waiters were busy and friendly, and the design of the restaurant was comfortable (with adequate restrooms). Will definitely come back!

The dark warm mood lighting, the corrugated wall, the intimate seating, and of course the small share plates makes for the sexy experience tapas is suppose to be! It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. At some point, since the menu heavily leans towards rich and decadent, its better to plan around that. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the questions we had on the ingredients and was on it with the refills.

The food was really really delicious. While the first wave of tapas took a little longer than expected to come out of the kitchen, the rest of our dining experience was smooth as butter. Every dish I tried was wonderful - the steak breakfast bowl, chicken tostada, and beef sliders really stood out in a special way. Each dish was seasoned well and came out hot; some of the tapas came out in fairly large portions (like the beef bowl and papas) and should be shared between a few people. I appreciate how expansive the menu is; we ate like kings and queens and barely got through tasting half the menu. The drinks came out quickly and were well made. They offered all sorts of flavored mimosas and margs (at a small upcharge); I stuck with classic OJ mimosas but friends at the table loved trying the variety of options. Overall, service was great. Our waitress was attentive, quick, and kept great track of all the tapas we ordered. As I mentioned, the flow and timing of receiving our first round of food could've been improved - but it didn't ruin the experience. Looking forward to my next brunch here!

After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. They say it's enough for 2-4, but unless its your only meal of the day, I fully think a group of 2 would have leftovers. It's definitely on our list to return

Food and vibes are just magnificent. Hands down the best Peruvian restaurant in the DC area, by…read morefar. Honestly it doesn't matter what you get, everything is just so freaking succulent. The ceviche is really good, can never go wrong with ceviche, especially if you're going tapas style. The ají de gallina, lomo saltado and lamb are so freaking good, the meat is tender, the sauces are perfection, and when you mix the rice to with the sauce it's absolutely delicious. Heard about this place a while, finally tried it out a couple times now, already can't wait to go back!

My first time trying Peruvian food. Apparently, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese immigrant…read morecommunity, so it's somewhat Chinese in a way. You can definitely taste some Cantonese influences. Corazón: Very unique. The beef heart was grilled very tender, and the spicy and tangy dipping sauce was refreshing. I've also never had such large kernels of sticky corn before. Lomo Saltado: Similar to Cantonese black pepper and beef cubes stir-fry, but noticeably coarser. The meat was a bit tough and dry, the sauce didn't coat it well, and it wasn't very flavorful. Chaufa Mixto: Chaufa = chaofan 炒飯 (fried rice in Chinese) A very straightforward transliteration. Similar to Chinese fried rice, it had plenty of wok hei 鑊氣 (wok aroma), which is rare in the US. The beef and chicken were quite tender; however, the shrimp wasn't fully cooked, and you could clearly taste the raw texture inside. Vegetales Salteados: Seasoned exactly like Lomo Saltados, it's even stranger to use it for stir-frying vegetables... It was entirely for the vegetables' benefit; otherwise, it was completely unnecessary. Suspiro: Dulce de leche custard, meringue, and passion fruit glaze, sprinkled with cinnamon powder--it was far too sweet.

Retrobottega just happened to be a hop, skip, and a jump from our hotel…read more A friend recommended it, and as soon as we sat down I understood why-everyone is so friendly and accommodating. A gentleman who worked there offered to take a photo of us, after watching us struggle with a selfie, the staff quickly grabbed an extra chair when we had a 5th guest, and our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and sweet. While waiting for the rest of our party I tried two drinks. I can recommend both- retro passion and bourbon ginger beer concoction. We followed that with arancini and fried artichoke. Yes and yes. For the main meals, they generously let us slip large portions. I tried the short rib parpadelle, and although a tad under seasoned, everything was prepared properly and my pasta was perfectly al dente. Out of the 5 who visited 3 did not care for their meal, but I think we could all agree that the drinks, apps, and portions were on point. *So, we ended up grabbing dinner here two days after our initial visit- I can't say I recommend the octopus, and the beef carpaccio was "take it or leave it", but the gnocchi was pillowy perfection...just know that this is a heavy dish!

Finally a restaurant in Adam's Morgan that I would actually want to come back to!…read more Food exceeded our expectations- I had the ossobuco w veal shank - melted off the bone and the only bad part about the risotto is that there wasn't enough of it! The complimentary bread was absolutely divine. One of us got the bruschetta and it was beautiful (and delicious). The space is small but doesn't feel cramped. What really stood out though was the service. We were a little early on our Resi before the restaurant opened. Rather than have us wait in the rain, the staff let us in. They don't split checks, but they did it for us anyway. It's those kinds of little gestures that really make a difference. Bonus- great leychee martini.
