When I entered - I noticed immediately that the service was not going to be very good. It's rare but sometimes asking for a table for 1 - they don't like that. Traveling for business, I appreciate when they can accommodate a table so I can work. I got a very small table. I started with a salad and while the flavor was good, I was picking up on some really strong garlic. Normally....thats a good thing. But it had giant chunks of fresh garlic. It was too much. A few things are wrong. 1. Ordered the eggplant parm and the eggplant was tough to cut. Also ordered the shrimp scampi app and when you see $17, you think you would at least get latge shrimp. The shrimp were tough, the scampi sauce was over powered by lemon. 2. Service was very slow for a Sunday afternoon. We had a group of 10 and split check into three because of families. Nowhere does it say automatic gratuity, and when we got our final check the waitress told us, sorry we added gratuity. On the check it did not provide the percentage and when we calculated the rate, it was 21.5%. We definitely will not revisit this place again. If you want a good meal with good portions and value, go next door to Amicci's. Hands down the best restaurant in Little Italy. read more

Recently went here for a group event. The restaurant is very spacious as there is a lot of room in their lower level and upper level. We had a group of 80 people and the staff did a good job managing a large party. For the meal, it was served family style. We had the following entrees after being served salad: penne vodka (super good, our table requested a second plate because we devoured it), Eggplant parm (also really really good), Chicken Marsala (this was good and cooked well), Lasagna without meat (our table didn't get a serving of this sadly so I'm not sure how it tasted). For dessert, we were served Tiramisu and Cannolis which everyone loved. For a big group, this was an amazing place to go and the staff adapted well to make it a good experience. I have ordered take out from here before, but this was my first visit to the restaurant. I love the lounge entrance and it had a great atmosphere. We ordered from a friendly bartender- I had the shrimp Nicola and my friend tried the tour of Chiapparelli's. My pasta was perfect, the white wine sauce was delicious and while I find sometimes these dishes can be a little dry, this was perfect. We wanted to take my bf's dad out to dinner in Little Italy and yelp reviews guided us to Chiapparelli's. We were sat immediately. Ambiance is very old school italian restaurant which is fine and adds to the vibes. Our server seemed a little tired and/or noncommital. He did in fact forget the order of appetizer we put in (its fine, it wasn't on the final receipt) but otherwise didn't check up on us much. We weren't provided a dessert menu after dinner. I got the order of calamari fra diavoli with a side of italian wedding soup (so needed on a very brisk autumn night). The pasta was really yummy. It hit the right level of spicy and it was an ample portion of calamari on it. My bf and his dad both got the eggplant parm and both commented on how it was a really well done eggplant parm where the breading was not too greasy and there was a nice crunch when cutting into the eggplant. We definitely do think we will come back again. Food saved it from being a 3 star in my opinion, because the service was a little meh. read more

Colonial styled architecture inside, this restaurant has a homey but upscale feeling. The food was good and more reasonably priced compared to other famous little Italy restaurants. Ordered for the first time after a recommendation and honestly this is the worst food I have had in Little Italy. The salad was slathered in salad dressing with a vague cheesey flavor, it was still mostly crisp but I couldn't even eat a quarter of it. The chicken parmigiana was better than microwave dinner quality but extremely disappointing, the chicken itself was not disgusting but tasted mostly of the tomato sauce and a slight hint of mozzarella cheese. The tortolini Alfredo was severely lacking in flavor and was so bland that despite being covered in a cheese sauce I couldn't detect much of anything, the peas and ham included couldn't help much. My family and i visited on a sunday afternoon. The atmosphere is very intimate and quiet. Good for conversations and dates. We recieved complimentary bread and oil which was fantastic. We got their famous chip salad and bread last week and it was so good! I loved how fresh and flavorful the salad was, and the bread was soft. They seemed to add a lot of cheese to the salad, which added more of a soft texture than an overpowering cheese taste. We picked it up to go to pair with a pasta dish I made at home! Saltimbucco veal over spinach covered in bland cheese. What should have been thin slices of prosciutto were thick, penny-sized squares. Puttanesca was done well. Sauce was not out of a bottle. Needed more capers. Service was friendly, attentive, not intrusive. As for ambiance, think family eatery rather than fine dining bistro. I'm trying to be objective as I report out my dinner. I have wonderful memories of eating in Little Italy, and my friend would swear Chipperelli was the best Italian restaurant. I brought friends with me for dinner. We ordered the fried calamari and it was good. They did not give a lot of red marinara sauce for dipping, but boy, did they make up for sauce later on. I ordered the combination lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and chicken Parm dinner. when it arrived it was covered in sauce. It almost was inedible because it had so much sauce. I asked the waitress to remove the items and put them on a plate without sauce. my friend ordered the same thing but didn't want to ask them to put it on a plate. She had probably 2 inches of sauce on the corner of her plate. Their salad also was drenched in salad dressing, where the lettuce was almost wilting. I got a reservation for a Sunday I was in town. I had two other people for lunch. I have been eating in the restaurant since December 2 of 1979. Their salad is the best I have ever and continue to ever have. Though there menu has gotten shorter over the years. It does not detract from the delicious food and great service. I ordered the chicken vincenzo and my two compatriots both ordered the Italian meat salad. Which is a very large portion of the house salad along with a variety of Italian meats. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I will always highly recommend Chipparellies to anyone living in or visiting Baltimore. The salad came out and was heavily drenched in dressing. It did not taste fresh, and I feel like it served from a giant metal tub in the back of the kitchen after having sat there for longer than it should've. It reminded me of a Kitchen Nightmares episode. Still, I was optimistic that the pescatore (seafood spaghetti) I ordered would more than make up for the lackluster experience thus far. Pescatore came out and looked ok. First bite didn't live up to my expectations nor come close. Sauce was actually so bland and basic that I would have preferred Ragu. Linguini was definitely not homemade and probably bought from Safeway or something. Squid was undercooked and took an effort to get down. Fragments of mussel shell riddled throughout my dish was an accident waiting to happen. I had to fork through everything and make sure I wasn't gonna take a trip to the ER. Clams had the tiniest morsel of edibleness in them, and it literally tasted all frozen. At least add some scallops if you're gonna go that route. Oh yeah, the shrimp was decent and tasted fresh, but they only added three of them. Three??! The least y'all can do is add a couple more to go with that $34 price tag. My Negroni tasted really strong, which I usually wouldn't enjoy, but it was much needed to wash down this disappointment of a dish. Bartender probably knew what I was in for when I ordered the pescatore, so hats off to you. Chiapparelli's has been a favorite since childhood and for over 45 years. In fact, my husband and my first date was held at your establishment 10 years ago. But, my last two visits this year were lacking in flavor and did not taste like your traditional recipes I would salivate over and crave almost my whole life. Your salad, which you now charge for for about the last six months an I get why, served as a smaller portion, lacking the cheesy decadent goodness, served like it had been sitting in oil for sometime, served at room temp, and the iceberg lettuce leaves opaque and wilted from sitting out in the dressing oil for too long...gone are the days of the high mound of crunchy cold chopped lettuce, laden with garlic and worth it, with the decadence of a cheesy eggy dressing we all in my family would crave and die for. The chicken piccata served congealed, missing the wine and lemon flavor and both times ordered this year served cold once it hit our table. Side of pasta smaller portion than normal and sauce missing that perfect garlic laden flare. Eggplant parmigiana small in portion...literally 3 small rounds of eggplant and grossly tough and undercooked....and eggplant as an ingredient is cheap...why is the portion now this small? And lastly, the shrimp fra diavolo missing its infamous heat. To the Chiappareli Family, you are so close to being what you once were. But, somebody's finger is off the pulse and I can understand one bad night...but, a couple bad nights from soup to nuts has us questioning if we will return.
