I've never had an apointment where I was in an uncomfortable atmosphere. Nothing but smiles! These people remember your names, names of your kids, and elders. Their truthful and efficient. Although all the hygenists know their craft, Emily is by far my favorite hygienist . She never hurts my gums and takes extra procaution becuase i have big front teeth and it always makes me nervous. I have been to Dr. Joe's office for two cleanings now and I will never go to another dentist in LA. Both him and his staff are very friendly and I highly recommend going there if you're looking for a dentist in the area. I have a bit of a commute to his office but it is well worth it. The staff at the front got me checked in quickly and the wait was short. Both times the hygienist really got in there and cleaned my teeth very well. I've been to Dr. Elmassian about 5 times in the last 6 months (have had a LOT of overdue work done on my teeth). First of all, his staff is amazing. They're so kind and cheerful. They remembered my name by my second visit. I was always seen promptly, except for one visit that I had to wait 15 min or so for, and multiple staff members apologized. The prices are fair and reasonable, especially for the quality of work. I knew I could go someplace cheaper, but I didn't want to deal with any upselling. Dr. Joe is honest, very good at what he does, and a straight-shooter. He might come across as a little bit gruff at first, but he's very kind and cares deeply about his patients and his staff. Dr. Elmassian is a great dentist. I first went to him after reading lots of positive Yelp reviews. I have had terrible enamel wear and my teeth had also become very discolored. I had pretty much stopped smiling because my teeth looked so bad. I had seen 2 other dentists for assessments then went to Dr. Elmassian's office in Pasadena. He is a really fun & positive person - and was very encouraging about how crowns would improve both the stability of my teeth and the appearance. And his estimate was much more reasonable than the other 2 dentists. The first appointment was long and a bit grueling, but even the temporary he put in looked better than my teeth. Two weeks later I got the permanent crowns and I felt transformed! I now smile without hesitation and I can't wait for my family to see my smile when I go home for my wedding. I'll be smiling brightly for the pictures! His staff is also wonderful. It's a very busy bustling practice, and every staff person is friendly and helpful. And to top it off, not only are the fees reasonable but he did not charge me for a very good nightguard that he wants me to wear every night to "protect my investment." I was shocked since another dentist told me a nightguard would be $300. You can go to him with confidence. He is very skilled with something like 30+ years experience. He's seen it all and his assistants tell me he's the best they've worked with. Overall my work with him was a very positive experience. It was so positive that I think I'll go to him for all my dental work in the future. He was very supportive throughout this process and even talked with me on the phone several times to answer questions and concerns I had. He's a great person and an excellent dentist. Dr Elmassian is extremely friendly and a very skilled dentist. My front tooth veneer got chipped and I went in for the first time. The temporary veneer looked better than my original! I went back after insurance approval and they took a mold. I visited the lab they use for a custom color match, and 7 days later I had my beautiful new front tooth put in! The match was great and it's without doubt my best ever veneer (this will be my third - FYI). They made sure I was happy every step of the way. It has been years since I was a patient, but I finally got the problems created here resolved elsewhere. I honestly cannot recommend. I read all the great reviews and went for a check up. I needed 2 crowns. The anaesthetic made my jaw law lock which was very distressing. Dr Elmassian said this happens sometimes and attempted to do the work through a very small opening in my mouth. It was uncomfortable and felt like the drill was rattling against my other teeth potentially causing damage. Eventually he worked my jaw open and completed the work. The crowns were very sensitive and sometimes painful to bite on. I came back to have them adjusted but it didn't help, so for years I basically avoided eating anything hard on that side. My next dentist sent me to a specialist to see if I needed a root canal. That all came back clear, but the problem persisted. Eventually, after about 6 years, one of the crowns fell out. I made an emergency appointment to have it glued back and have had NO issues with pain since. I am really upset that I had pain with this for so long that was obviously due to poor work and could have been easily resolved. read more

Dr. Elmassian is amazing, I came in for a teeth cleaning and he was very thorough and great! He took the time to explain to me where I need to focus on cleaning more, and how/why. He doesn't just one-size-fits-all treat you, but caters to your teeth specifically and knows immediately what's wrong. He doesn't make me feel uncomfortable or scared about my oral health at all, but more confident to take steps toward the problem. His assistant was also very informative and helpful, she answered all the questions I had and was easy to talk with. Also, I appreciate the fact that this place still gives you a free toothpaste/toothbrush because places I go to usually don't anymore. I wish I'd found this place sooner, because this place is really amazing. He gave me referrals for a root canal specialist and then placed a temp crown on my tooth weeks later per my request (he likes to wait longer to ensure full healing of the mouth). 8 months later, and I am still in pain. I chose to go this dentist because of the high positive Yelp reviews and absolutely regret it. I went for a crown and filling and the experience has been painful from the minute work started. I am now dealing with the possibility of 2 root canals because of my experience at this office. A dentist can irritate your nerves if he is not properly cooling his equipment while drilling, or using cheap stuff to fill the tooth. I reached out to the office and the doctor did try to fix the problem and call me to try to resolve it. That's why it pains me to write this review, but it's been an ordeal and I feel that if you need more work than a teeth cleaning, then people should seek alternative dentists. read more

Before I switched careers, I worked as a dental assistant for over ten years. My last few years as a dental assistant I worked as a temp filling in at various dental offices. I only say this because I want everyone to know that I have worked alongside several different dentists in my lifetime. I know what is the average for dental care, what goes above and beyond, and what kind of office you should get up from your chair, run, and never look back. Dr. Elmassian and his staff are one of the above and beyond quality care practices. My hygiene appointment was excellent. My teeth were immaculately clean by the end of my visit, and I received a take home bag with floss, mouthwash, and a toothbrush. I mention this, because I went to a few dentists in the area before I found Dr. Elmassian and had cleanings and never received this typical goodie bag. Even an average dentist would provide the proper tools to help you keep your mouth and teeth in good oral health after your visit. After all, they should want your mouth and check up to come out well. It just doesn't make sense if an office skimps on this. (I am talking at least a toothbrush at your cleaning, don't expect your dentist to supply a years worth of toothpaste, and mouth wash for you. Just a simple starter kit. ) I was very happy when he handed me these items, because this is the first step in realizing whether or not you have found a good dental office that cares about your oral health and not how much revenue your dirty mouth will rake in for them . I came back a second time for a filling. The whole experience was painless including the numbing. My filling was well done. In addition, He even contoured my front teeth for me at no charge. I am a person who definitely grinds my teeth at night. My teeth had an uneven jagged appearance due to the grinding. He made my front teeth look like I had cosmetic work done, and did it out of the kindness of his own heart. You can tell he is passionate about what he does. I did have a night guard made after he suggested it. It was by no means an upsell. I could see the damage first hand, and knew before I went in that he would recommend it to me after looking in my mouth. My boyfriend was tired of hearing me sound like I was possessed at night from the noise and weird faces I made in my sleep due to the grinding. He is so grateful for the peaceful sleep that he doesn't seem to mind how completely dorky I look with the night guard in, nor the whistle sound that comes out when trying to say a word with an "S". I didn't fear OSHA coming in and closing the office down. The place is spotless and modern. The staff is incredibly nice and you can tell they are like family to one another. It was easy to get an appointment. All those good things. All n all....If you need a GREAT dental practice, not just an average one.....go see Dr. Elmassian and his lovely staff. read more

I strongly recommend Dr. Elmassian. I went to him because I had chipped one of my front teeth. He was cheerful and easy to talk to. He told me my options without pushing anything specific and let me make up my mind. I ended up getting two veneers on my front teeth. I also choose to do at home whitening (again, no pressure from him, my own decision). I am SO happy with the results!!! Not only do the veneers look really natural, but he smoothed other areas in my teeth that were damaged, filled in a small indented spot in one tooth and evened things out.
