I went to Dr. Elmassian with a badly damaged tooth, of which there was not much left for him to build upon--a small chip, really. He explained my options. I chose to have him rebuild the tooth as best he could, knowing full well it might or might not last. He did a wonderful job recreating a tooth out of almost nothing. Unfortunately over time it didn't last. He had advised me from the start this was a very real possibility. When we moved on to what I probably should have chosen in the first place, an extraction and implant, he was more than generous in applying what I had previously paid him for the rebuilding, transferring it to the implant. I now have the implant, and it is perfect. He is professional, a perfectionist, and a genuinely nice person. I would highly recommend him, and in fact have done so to a long-time friend, who is now seeing him as well. read more

Hands Down, the best Dentist. I am one of Dr. Elmassians "originals", been going there since mid 1980s. I do my twice yearly cleanings here, and granted I moved further, I still make the trek to come see him. He is a very honest and courteous man. He has always educated me on how to take care of my teeth since I was a kid and his advice has always stuck with me. It's hard to put into words why this is one of the best Dentists I've ever had. I took my dad here to get some dentures done because most places had told us that his jaw bone has deteriorated to a point where it's hard for them to do anything about. We have been working with Dr. Elmassian for a little over 4 months now. Dr. Elmassian and his staff were extremely patient with my father. My dad does not understand a single word of English, so it's a lot of translating and sign language. Earlier this week, my dad was finally given his special denture. My husband has been seeing dr.elmassian since he was 5. Now our family drives down from big bear for all of our dental needs. The staff is always friendly and makes us feel right at home. Even our 2 year old and 5 year old love going to the dentist. Recently our 5 year old had to get 6 fillings and they were so good with him. I've been going to Dr. Elmassian since I was 3 years old (1983). I've never tried any other dentist. I've never had to. I hear of a lot of people "dentist-shopping" and I wonder why. Dr. Elmassian pulled out all 4 of my wisdom teeth in under 25 minutes--nothing but local anesthesia. No swelling. No pain. He's taken care of my teeth...and I get nothing but compliments on my smile. I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone who needs dental work, or a family dentist (for twice a year cleanings) to visit Joseph Elmassian, DDS. Dr. Elmassian is AMAZING. I went in because the enamel on my front two teeth was really worn down, I absolutely needed veneers... or something. He took one look at my teeth and said that I grind them. I didn't believe him until he said that it's usually the "Type A, perfectionist types" who grind their teeth. He himself would know, apparently, but perfectionism is a very reassuring quality to have in a dentist when you're undertaking a pretty big cosmetic procedure. He definitely went the extra mile to make sure everything looked perfect - including sending me to a color specialist at his own cost, even though I was only getting two teeth done! He also filed down some of my jagged lower teeth for me. And I'll admit, I was not an easy customer. I was TERRIFIED about having my front two teeth drilled down, but I just kept thinking about how he performed the same procedure on his wife. Then I didn't like how big the temporary veneers were (to compensate for a crooked tooth), and was seriously freaking about that. But he worked really hard to make sure I was happy, and I really love how the final porcelain veneers look like my own teeth, totally natural. Now I can look at pictures of myself without hating my teeth; it really makes an enormous difference to my smile. Getting veneers is a really scary process, but Dr. Elmassian is definitely the one to do it. It's obvious that he cares about each customer and is passionate about dentistry. read more

Although I am embarrassed to admit this, but due to my tragic fear of dentists, it had been a few years that I had gone in for a dental appointment. I called to schedule an appointment, explaining I had a broken tooth that I felt needed to be pulled. I was, thankfully, given a same day appointment! So, we started off great. Things went downhill when I arrived at the office. As I was filling out paperwork, there was a form to sign acknowledging receipt of the attached privacy policy, which wasn't attached. The receptionist looked at me like I had sprouted 3 heads when I asked for a copy of the document that was referenced as attached, and had to ask the doctor what it was/where to find it. The privacy policy that was ultimately produced was from 2003. Despite being advertised as an up-to-date facility, I didn't really feel that way once I was there. And while the doctor's name came up in a search of dentists doing laser dentistry, that isn't the case. After x-rays were taken, Dr. Elmassian confirmed the tooth needed to be pulled, but informed me that I would need to be referred elsewhere for that to be done. When I asked for a copy of my x-rays, I was told to take a picture of the projection of the x-rays with my phone. I really wanted to like this place, because they are in-network for my dental PPO, but I didn't feel comfortable enough there to want to go back. I suspect that for everyday things like teeth cleaning, this place is fine. read more

I am a transplant from Northern California. My husband and I moved to Pasadena when our first grandchild was born to help with childcare when her parents returned to work. I had a dentist up north but it became more difficult and unrealistic to get there. My son recommended Dr. Elmassian and sees him in the LA office. I called the Pasadena office to see if they were taking new patients. Sherry, the receptionist, was my first contact with the office. She answered all my questions regarding insurance, appointment times, and general information about the office. I told her I had neglected my dental care and was a bit embarrassed. She was so kind and caring and I felt relieved and made my appointment for the following week. Debbie, one of the wonderful hygienists, did my cleaning. She was gentle, and thorough. A nice combination of skills! She made me feel very comfortable. Raquel did my follow-up cleaning and she too was so caring, encouraging and also recommended another electric toothbrush which I did purchase. Yami assisted Dr. Elmassian when he made the molds for my night guard. I have struggled with a painful tooth that Dr. Elmassian diagnosed as being caused by grinding my teeth at night. He made a night guard and it has been a gift. I no longer have that pain. I had two long appointments to fill cavities caused by neglecting my dental health. Dr. Elmassian never made me feel badly but went to work to correct the problems for which I am extremely grateful. Yami and Dr. Elmassian would check in with me during the long process to make sure I was ok during the work needing to be done. I can truly see the entire staff is professional, caring, and highly skilled from my experience. I have spoken with Charlene on the phone and she was delightful and have not yet met Jackie. There is no other dentist like "Dr. Joe" in the San Gabriel Valley! He is the best for general and cosmetic dentistry! He created my first perfect smile the first time I visited his office over fifteen years ago with some bonding on my two front teeth. I recently was ready for porcelain veneers, and the results are amazing! Strangers stop me on the street to compliment me on my beautiful teeth or say, "Ma'am, you have such a fantastic smile!" He is gentle and friendly, as is his staff of assistants and hygienists.
