I would have rated this place "10" if I could. I moved out of Los Angeles 2 and a half years ago and one of the main things I miss badly about LA is doing my regular Brazilian with extraordinary Anna at Joseph Lamar salon. I could never imagine that Brazilian waxing could be painless, quick and even enjoyable. Yes, enjoyable, because with Anna time flies so quickly with jokes, laughs, care and her professionalism that you actually enjoy your time there. Just like the other reviewers rightfully noticed, Anna's office is spotless, nice and serene. It shows that hygiene as a crucial condition of her work. Also, her office is full of different illustrative information about skin structure and that is clear evidence of Anna's scientific approach to her work. She constantly educates herself professionally. Let's face it, you do not see it that often. This makes you feel in good hands. Now about her. Anna is your perfect beautician: professional, efficient, extremely sweet, honest and very caring. She truly cares about her clients and that shows how smart she is. You feel like your time and money are respected and valued. Anna's work is FLAWLESS, she takes care of every little detail and never neglects anything, and this again shows how much she respects and values your money and time. i know the owners, so i might be a little bias. gabby & don are such a great couple & run an amazing business! there are quite an eclectic group of people working there, so im sure anyone can find someone to do what they are looking for. i used to go only for up-dos in HS for dances...but for the past 1 1/2 years Ive been getting my hair cut/dyed regularly with gabby (one of the owners) who is AMAZING. she does such a good job, and i am picky with hair and have had it done with some of the most expensive people. she is a little harder to book than the others because she has a little boy so she is only there on certain days. but cuts are usually about 50 or so, and when i get my hair dyed and cut its about 100 even....but totally worth it! read more

Every time I find myself at a blow dry bar I find that I always have to ask them to fix my flyways, and with Claire I didn't have to. My hair looked great and she was very sweet and professional. I give the receptionist five stars. She is very welcoming and has a very professional demeanor . Now as far as one of the stylist I had dealt with. She is overly confident and flat out rude. I simply wanted lighter hair with multidimensional highlights. She made it sound so difficult. I mean if you have so much experience like you say it should not be such an issue . I had text her that I'm sure she will make me pretty. Her response to me was "I can't do magic." Ok that was it. I canceled my appointment. I knew something was off when I had to cancel my first appointment due to a health condition and her response was "oh I've never heard of someone canceling over a fever blister." Well what does it matter why I canceled I notified you two days before. It don't matter if I had diarrhea . I'm the customer and potential client. Maybe she is just jealous I physically look better then she does. I don't know what her issue is but I like to be respected when I plan on putting out a good amount of money and become a faithful client. Never again. I got a haircut and style from Gabby. The way she brushes through the hair, pressing the brush on the scalp, it's like she has no clue how much pressure is too much. It was a painful blowdry. I read the same review from someone else, but thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Now I know the other reviewer said if for a reason. I showed her a picture of a style I wanted and she gave me the exact haircut she had given the lady before me. The style was anything but flattering. I've gone here a few times to do my hair and it's ok, I never got to the color I wanted and my hair has excessive damage now after only three times, I kept coming back because the girl who did my hair was sweet. but regardless I've never minded that what bothers me about this place is make up. NEVER get your make up done here. My little sister came to get her hair and make up done here for her prom as soon as I picked her up to pay. I knew something was wrong. Not only did I not like how it came out, I new something was up with my sister, as soon as we exited the salon, she started crying her little eyes out saying " the one day I'm supposed to look beautiful I look terrible", we got home and my grandmother was even in shock on how awful her make up was and said she looked like a clown. Luckily we ended up washing off all the make up and I attempted to the best I could to do her make up myself. She much better off never coming here that day. read more

Conversations with her are pleasant and interesting during the waxing process and most important, she does NOT hurt you one bit. Also, she has this magic touch that leaves my skin soft and not irritated after she's done. Other places would leave me in pain and with redness for at least 1 day, but not with Anna. Gladis is a lifesaver. After having my hair seriously damaged by a bad cut and highlighting job at Fantastic Sams in the Empire Center, I found the Joseph Lamar Salon through a google search. I make sure to do a thorough search on new places especially after what happened so I was pleasantly surprised by the salon and Gladis. She was very welcoming and made me feel like I've known her forever. She talked me through the damage that had happened and explained exactly what she was going to do to help my hair. After a year of being in her hands my hair is back to looking its best maybe even better than it has been. The Moroccan Oil Aragon Oil she recommended has help my hair tremendously. It's no longer frizzy and weak. She knows the right cut for your face shape and really takes her time with you to make sure your hair is perfect before you leave. Even when there was a slight mixup with my appt the last time I was in she still managed to work on everyone and keep a smile on her face. She is so sweet and I can't imagine trusting my hair (and eyebrows... Yes she is amazing at sculpting them too) with anyone else. Ask for her and she will not let you down!! read more

i heard that there are a few stylist who would style your hair for free if you're donating (locks of love), and while i was searching really hard for this person, penney called me back and said she would love to do it. she immediately set up my appointment and the moment i arrived everything felt comfortable. the ladies in the front were very welcoming and were thrilled that i was donating my hair. they were actually glad that i mentioned locks of love because they were brainstorming ideas on how else they can reach out to other organizations, which brought up the offer they currently had which is donate $10 to breast cancer awareness for 1 strand of pink hair extension. so not only am i donating 12" of my hair, but i get to add a little pink to the mix which was fun (two birds with one stone). i never feel at ease when i cut my hair especially when it's this much of my hair i'm chopping off because it never is what i imagined it to be. and having a new hair styles is also worrisome, but penney made this transition easy. she was very social, and looking at everyone's interaction in the salon this place felt like a very close knit environment that's easily welcoming to others. penney was very skilled with my hair style and didnt just rush me out the door. overall result, i love my hair. for the first time i loved looking at my new hair style, and even though it was a totally new look for me, penney made my hair fit my round face. i can officially say that i have a go-to stylist with skills and a great heart. she will definitely be my referral in social conversations. read more

So, I needed a haircut and wanted a new experience. I searched for a haircut coupon in the San Fernando Valley area and was so pleased to find one through Living Socials at a shop I had been meaning to go to for 2 years to purchase the pedispa socks. Now, I could do both, haircut and get the socks. I was scheduled with a hairdresser named Lyn D. and was welcomed into the Joseph Lamar Salon and the haircut experience with great comfort, good coffee, clean space and a luxurious moisturizing treatment. I soon learned that I had happened upon a highly experienced hairdresser/beautician (14 years in the business). After hearing what I wanted and telling me her thought, Lyn went to work cutting/styling my hair. The result was amazingly a superb haircut. Now, those reading this review, do not know me. I am known among my friends as a hairdresser "hopper", never satisfied, always searching for the right haircut and the right hairdresser. This has been going on for YEARS, many many years, often finding the right dresser in places where I will not again be for my next haircut, Paris, Paradise CA., Edinburgh, etc Well, amazingly, I think I may have reason to stop hopping. Aside from feeling well taken care of with Lyn recognizing what I wanted in my haircut, on her own, without my telling her,she FEATHERED my bangs. This is huge. There's always a few days before you can adjust to a hair cut, and before today I don't think I've ever left one happy. I was beyond amazed at what Kelli did. I live in Marina Del Rey and i drive all the way to Burbank to get my bikini wax from Ana. She is the best ever. She is the only person I know who uses a different wax stick everytime she dips it into the hot wax. therefore you are never ever exposed to bacteria or germs that may otherwise be in hot wax. Ive been to MANY hairstylists and none who take care of me like Gladis does. I went to her with black, fryed, short, unhealthy, weak hair. I cant tell you how much shes helped boost my confidence. Hair can say a lot about a person. She has completely transformed me. I now go to her on a regular basis and enjoy having my trims and color done. Before I would leave each salon crying in tears because they didnt know what a trim was. As for my eyebrows. Another disaster that she has transformed. I used to go to eyebrow specialists and each one would thin my eyebrows out until I barely had anything left. Slowly Gladis helped me regrow my eyebrows into the beautiful thick eyebrows that they were. I love her because she isnt just one of those people out to get your money. My roots were LONG overdue and I had been looking EVERYWHERE for a root touch up for bleached blonde hair that didn't cost an arm and a leg and I found an ad for a deal on craigslist at this salon with Lynne. I took my chances and crossed my fingers due to the fact that I used to get my root touch ups with style for fifty dollars in Northern California by my old stylist who ALWAYS did a superb job and gave me free mini condition treatments! Yet since I moved to the LA area I have went to reasonably priced salons for root touch ups and time after time they had made my hair fried or yellow, not Lynne though! She is amazing, she really puts her sweat and tears in her work (figuratively speaking). I have FINALLY found a hair stylist that gives reasonably priced services and gets the job done right. I came to Lynn for hair and makeup for my wedding. Luckily I was able to book her given that it was only a couple of weeks away. She was amazing. She took her time and knows what she is doing. Both came out great. My makeup was done carefully and the quality was excellent. Never throughout the entire day did my foundation or eye makeup crease, smear, sweat off. I was surprised and thankful! She truly cares about her work and is very friendly and sociable. She did the work for what was best for my hair and skin, not just what makes it easier for her. If you're going to go to Joseph Lamar Salon, do yourself a favor and choose Gladis! I started seeing Gladis 6 years ago when I was preparing for my wedding. My fiance at the time (now husband!) suggested I go to Gladis because he knew how unhappy I had previously been with my color. I was very nervous to go because I knew it was a fancy pants salon and I had been going to my neighborhood barbershop for years. I shouldn't have worried. Gladis took incredible care of my hair and has ever since. My hair went from a frizzy, unmanageable mess into long, sleek, luscious locks. She has taken my hair from long to short (a punk rock pixie cut) and back again (my hair is currently halfway down my back). Anyone who can make the hair-growing-out process this seamless is incredible! Every haircut I've ever gotten from Gladis has been amazing. I've gotten so many compliments from strangers about my hair... something that never happened before Gladis. She has given me the tough love I needed when I wanted a haircut that wouldn't look good on me and she's helped me take the plunge when I needed something new but didn't know what I wanted. Gladis takes into account my tendency to be low maintenance (who actually wants to blow dry their hair every day... not me!) and works with it in developing my haircuts. She's given me great advice about how to take care of my hair so it is no longer a frizzy and dry mess. Somehow, even when my highlights are growing out, I don't end up looking like a skunk. On top of her mad skills, she genuinely cares about her clients and has a very positive and spunky outlook on life.
