I'll start right off saying I've been getting waxed here, by Anna and/or Tamara for 12 years. Yes you heard me right... TWELVE!! You've gotta know now there's a reason someone would not stray, going every 7 weeks, spending all that money, not having laser hair removal done... for that many years. Right? Right :) That reason my fine Yelper friends... is Anna. The beautiful, the amazing, the "never puts wax where it doesn't belong & hurts your hoochie coo" Anna! Now don't get me wrong, you saw I mentioned Tamara up above. She is still there & still does a fantastic job. I am still happy to go to her if Anna is booked. It's just that after this many years I've developed an awesome bond/friendship with Anna. I look forward to my waxings not only for a professional, proficiently done job but also for good conversation, great advice & time well spent. You know how some people go to the local bar to relax & unload their brain? Well this is where I go. Really, how many of YOUR friends can say they RELAX when getting hair ripped out of sensitive areas? Hmm? Okay lets get down to the nitty gritty though. First off, it doesn't hurt. Yes yes, it used to be a tad uncomfortable but trust me that the combo of having it done right & with doing it regularly... it won't be painful anymore. And because I know you're wondering, I'm talking full Brazilian folks. The whole shebang & then some (nice... now the whole State of Yelp knows what I look like under my clothes! LOL!) Furthermore, just try to find an errant hair afterward. Anna is THOROUGH. And all this while we're chatting, laughing & having a good time. What's more, she's PROFESSIONAL. For those of you who haven't had it done before... don't be intimidated. Yes, this is a private area you're having done. But she doesn't make you feel uncomfortable or awkward. It's truly like being in a fitting room trying on clothes with your very best friend... not a big deal, ya know? Seriously, I could go on and on but I won't. Suffice to say, the woman is an angel. I call her that, my angel. She has seen me through so much. She's given me advice while I was soul searching, introduced me to books that helped me when I was feeling lost or even when I was scared to take a long flight... and sensed when I just needed to lay back & relax and did her work quickly & quietly. She's that kind of person... intuitive. Oh and let me get back to the quickly part... she works fast & so you're done in an instant. YET, she's not slapping on wax haphazardly as some places do & taking too much off at once which will lead to painful issues! She's simply systematic in her approach... as she should be with so many years of experience. I've sent MANY friends to her. Friends who'd never had it done before & were scared out of their wits! Friends who thought they'd need painkillers either before or after. And you know what? Every one of those friends came back saying thank you... and kept seeing her. I even have one friend who moved to the east coast & refuses to wax until she can plan a trip out here. To her, it's just not worth it to try someone new when she knows perfection is close at hand. 5 stars just isn't enough for this review... but it's all they'll allow. Went here for the fist time. They did a good job on the color. I was very happy the way my highlight came out. However the ends of my hair ended up a bet damage so I decided to go in for a trim. Well long story short my hair was cut as if it was the persons first time cutting hair. I contacted the hairdressers and send her a picture of the disaster and she was apologetics and had me go in to fix it. I went there for body waxing with the yelp deal that's on right now. Well, the waxing job was awesome by Anna and I am completely satisfied with her. I would give a 5 star to Anna. But after the services, when I showed them the yelp certificate they refused to accept it saying it is only for Hair services. The deal doesn't mention anywhere of any such restrictions and it clearly states that this "can only be used for services, not retail products". They did not accept the certificate and I ended up paying for the certificate as well as for the services. This was the only negative aspect of my visit here. I recently had a brazilian here done by Anna. I've had a brazilian done for years and have been to a number of salons and she is by far one of the better ones I've been to. Anna is very professional, clean, and quick. She uses a hot wax and uses a new stick for each dip into the wax. No double dipping here, she is all about cleanliness. This I can appreciate because I've been to a few that definitely use a new stick per client, but then dips into the wax pot throughout the session. This was the most quickest and painless brazilian I've ever had and she even ends with a lavender-chamomile soothing toner. I will definitely come back again. read more

Waxing: Go to Tamara (she's who I go to) or to Ana. Never go to Joyce. She's not very hygiene oriented. I get everything waxed: bikini, face, underarms, legs. They are very thorough, friendly, professional, perfectionists, and the price is very reasonable. I would give them (5) stars, but recently I've experienced some schedule troubles. The ladies at the front desk get overwhelmed and sometimes don't write down the times correctly. Make sure you double check with them about how long a procedure takes. I totally agree with Atomic B.'s review. Anna is by far the best waxer i've ever been to. She's done my eyebrows and bikini line. Eyebrows- she's always done a good arch on my terribly short misshapen eyebrows. Bikini wax- is always very good...it's a combination of her technique and the products that she uses that gives her bikini wax less of a sting. Every time I get my bikini line done with her I never have ingrowns ...which is always fabulous for a person that has sensitive skin down there. I am specifically yelping about my 12/29 hair extension DISASTER. I was growing out my short hair (boy cut) and went in to talk about options (cutting vs. extensions). The original woman I booked an appointment with was very nice (sorry - I forget her name). She patiently talked me through possibilities. I was on a budget but it seemed as if I could get a few extensions to turn my boy cut into a bob. Unfortunately, she couldn't do it so she passed me on to someone named Katerina. She was nice enough, but... ...hours later and $300 dollars later, I looked like an Amish man (no offense to Amish people) with thin sideburns sticking out on either side of my head. I was confused at first. I thought maybe it wasn't that bad. I mean Katerina said it was "cute" (uh-huh). But you know it's bad when no one at the salon meets your eye or tell you it looks good. It was eerily silent. Perhaps I should have been smarter and not have gotten the extensions. I guess it was silly of me to believe that it be doable. I really just wish she had told me that it be better to cut my hair off or grow it out and look awkward then waste all that money on 4 strips of glue on hair that made me look like freak. Or that my measly $300 was not enough money for good extensions. It was so bad that I ripped the extensions out myself the next day and went to another salon to get a haircut. The stylist their told me I should have never been told extensions were a good option. :( Lesson learned. After spending the last few years salon hopping based on whatever Groupon or Livingsocial deal I could find, I've finally found my stylist! Rene gave me my first professional dye job ever (brown to hot redhead), and has done a fantastic job on the color (which continues to look awesome even after a few months when it fades!) and upkeep. Today I got bold, and we transformed my long boring locks into a really cute rockstar shag, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results! Of course the main reason I keep coming back is because I always enjoy sitting in Rene's chair chatting for a couple hours, and enjoying both the cut and company is key. My five stars are all for Anna. I completely agree with all of the reviews that gush about her... she is the real deal. I have been going to her for years and cannot imagine ever going anywhere else again. She is quick, clean and thorough, but the best part is that she is just a wonderful person to be around. I walk out of each appointment feeling invigorated and I usually learn something new or interesting every time. Anna is absolutely the best!! The only negative experience I have ever had at Joseph Lamar was when I went to the person across the hall from Anna when Anna was not working one day. The other person was not clean and showed up 20 minutes late to the appointment (claiming she had to give a ride to one of the stylists in the salon and it took longer than she thought it would). Jodi is consistently amazing. Ever since I dyed my hair the first time (when I was in high school) I have never gone to anyone else because why would I want to mess with perfection? She's had me various shades of blonde, brunette, even bright red! We always have a blast during our appointments and I walk out feeling and looking like a million bucks! She can fix anyone else's shoddy work (I've sent friends in after unhappy appointments with other people) and makes sure you're completely happy before you walk out. I can't say enough good things about Jodi. She even replicated a celebrity do for my senior prom back in the day! I'll follow her anywhere! 10 years loyal with many more to come. Previous review I wrote about her with more detail: I have said it a million times: Jodi is a hair magician! This is a long overdue review. She is the only person I trust with my hair color and was my go to when it came to up dos for proms back when I was in high school. When I had a very specific idea of what I wanted for prom I brought in a picture of the up do that Jodi not only replicated, but improved upon. When I made the mistake of using a "non permanent" dye from the supermarket to dye my hair purple, she salvaged it. Needless to say, it WAS permanent. When I tried to go blonde again after the purple disaster, my hair turned BRIGHT pink. Jodi was endlessly patient with my hair and managed to get it right back to where I wanted it in only a few hours, after I promised not to use one of those boxes of dye again. She brought my color dreams to life when I wanted to go BRIGHT red with bangs and brought me right back to blonde when I was done with it. She has made blonde, brown and red work on me, all without damaging my hair (which is to my waist). She has done not only my hair, but my mom and my sister's as well. She even cut one of my best friend's hair from long to an adorable short bob. She is the only person I recommend to my friends and occasional strangers that come up and ask me who does my hair. She has the amazing talent to know EXACTLY what you mean when you tell her what you want, whether it be a color or that you want to "warm" up the color you already have. Not only is Jodi a hair magician, she is a wonderful, personable, lovely woman and I feel absolutely blessed to have found her. She really, truly, cares about her clients. Penney Layne is fantastic! After seeing a Groupon for a cut, condition and highlights I checked her Yelp reviews and only saw 2. I was a little hesitant but the price was right, so I figured. .What the hell! I am soooo happy that I took the chance. Penney is a great stylist, colorist and conversationalist! I had base color, a cut, a deep conditioning treatment and partial highlights. The time flew by and I couldn't be happier with the results! The salon is cute, and had champagne and orange juice on ice for anyone wishing to make a mimosa, bagels and cream cheese, and several different cakes for snacking on while getting beautified. I bought a Lifebooker, which I was not sure would be good or not to see Claire. When I walked in, I immediately felt comfortable around Claire, and she really took the time to see what I wanted. I had come in with a botched extension job, and Claire was very honest, but gave me some options about what I should do in order to make sure my natural hair was ok. I went back to her last night for a trim and blow dry and my hair looks great. Not only is she good at what she does, but she's very accommodating. And she gives a fabulous head massage when she washes you! My blow dry looks just as good as it did yesterday, and she is worth every penny. I highly recommend her. read more

She's been cutting my hair and doing my eyebrows and i have to say that both my hair and eyebrows were a disaster before i found her. Right now I'm sporting emerald green hair that looks amazing, but before that I went Purple, and before that I was blonde. I'm a natural brunette and when I first went blonde I had a hard time finding a colorist and hairdresser I liked. They were all fine, but there is a reason I've stuck with Kelli for so long. She takes your wants and needs seriously and works hard at getting the color you want. When I went from purple to green, she researched the best way to get maximum results. She also takes her time. She won't rush things just to get you out the door and she'll find ways to accommodate you and her other customers if things start to overlap because she wants to give you the best product. Found the salon for the first time thanks to Lifebooker, and just when I was getting a little bit nervous after not being impressed by the last several times I had booked haircuts/color/Brazilian Blowouts via Lifebooker, they finally came through again in a big way with Joseph Lamar Salon and Rachel. Lately, it seemed that hair stylists through Lifebooker were just rushing through the motions, and while I haven't had any total disasters, no one has impressed me enough that I would be likely to return...until now! Rachel@ Joseph Lamar was fantastic. Her normal prices are double the amazing deal that was running on Lifebooker, but it would be worth it. She was sweet, friendly, fast, efficient, and very skilled. My hair used to be down to my mid-back, but I wanted something that I could put a bit less work into, and that looked business professional (or could when I wanted it to). I ended up showing Rachel a picture of what I wanted, and after discussing it with her and playing with my hair, she tweaked the idea a bit and came up with a very similar look that suited me better. Mark is awesome! Ask for this guy - his approach to men's haircutting is rooted in the old fashioned sophistication of the 40's and 50's with a modern, upbeat flair. On top of that, he's a stand-up guy! I had to get a haircut there for a photoshoot, and got it cut once via a group on deal where I had an entire salon experience for only 20 dollars. When my photographer decided to change the look for my photoshoot, I had to call Mark back to make some last minute adjustments; which he did free of charge. I was desperately searching for a hairstylist in or near the Burbank area. I asked around to friends if they had a hairstylist they could recommend and no one seemed to know anyone. So, today I did something I never would have done before, I got online and googled for a hairstylist that specialized in African American hair-weaves specifically. I started searching and surprisingly a stylist popped up named Eboni. I read her reviews and was immediately impressed with what her clients had to say about her. So, I decided I would give it a shot and call her. I left a message for Eboni with the receptionist because she was with a client and Eboni called me right back, which really impressed me. Immediately I noticed how pleasant and friendly Eboni was over the phone. She answered all of my questions and made me feel at ease about the style of hair care she provided. I liked what I was hearing and told her I would like to get in for an appointment as soon as possible. I was so excited when she said she could see my daughter that same day! So, once my daughter got out of school today, I took her in to see Eboni. Eboni greeted us with a huge smile when she approached us and made us feel very comfortable. The salon was extremely nice and professional. Eboni first consulted with my 16 year old daughter about the style she wanted and then began to work on her hair. When I came back a couple hours later to pick my daughter up, I was blown away at how fabulous her hair looked! Eboni had transformed her into a little super model!! She relaxed her hair, put four weave tracks in and styled her hair. The finish look was spectacular and I was just over-the-top excited about her work! I am one of the pickiest people you'll probably find, and I must say Eboni exceeded my expectations! She is super sweet and funny plus she will educate you on healthy hair care and how to maintain a beautiful lasting look! I was very skeptical about this place and going to Penney! I only saw very few reviews of her but I went anyways. She did an amazing job! I needed a haircut so bad, my ends were so bad and dead and my hair was long. I wanted to keep m long length but also someway cut it for it to be healthy. Loved what she did my hair!! As a guy I was hesitant to get a facial, but after my first experience I was hooked. I now make monthly visits to see Efren and my skin looks fantastic. He makes it hard for people to guess my real age (and they're shocked when I tell them). I cannot recommend him enough. My wife and I have sent nearly a dozen clients his way. I have to give some love to Gladis at Joseph Lamar Salon. I have ... well, guinea pig hair - lots of cowlicks. and, though my hair is straight, it has a mind of its own when it comes to parts. I've been going to Gladis for haircuts for almost a decade and she has the magic touch with my hair - not only does it look great as I leave the salon, it continues to look good as it grows. Beyond her mad skills with a razor and scissors, Gladis is a lot of fun. I always leave her chair in a great mood having had many laughs. I can't recommend her highly enough. All of the people at Joseph Lamar are really nice. There's a small parking lot behind the salon and ample street parking in the surrounding area. They frequently set out snacks and make everyone feel at home. I wish the lighting was better - none of us looks our best under florescent lights, but aside from that it's a great place to get your "do" done. read more

I've been going to Lynn Dickson for about 2 years now and she never disappoints! Lynn always makes time for me and hooks me up with great hair! She always gives me a hair treatment and a trim on top of my hair color. I decided to go blonde a couple months ago and I went in with a picture of what I wanted. I was pretty nervous about the outcome but I fell in love after she was done and blow-dried my hair. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair color, especially from complete strangers. All my friends loved it and complimented that she did a great job on transitioning my hair color from a medium brown to a dark blonde.
