He is a very bad temper and intolerable Doctor . He always yell at his employees in front of patients for no reason. We just felt no dignity in working in his office and mental torture almost every single day. I can't imagine how could such a person be a doctor! Whenever he has a young beautiful lady as his patient, he will spend more than half a hour in the patient room and keep all the other older patients who have arrived on time with their appointments in the waiting room, patients start to complain and this doctor never cares about that. He is a kind of doctor who will stare at any young beautiful lady's body from head till toe and look at girl's down there without even moving his dirty eyes. I would give 0 stars if I could. I absolutely would NOT recommend Dr Joseph Fan. I never write reviews but feel the need to share my experience so that no one else will have to go through such a terrible ordeal as I had. I went to see him after experiencing foggy vision in one eye. It turned out I had bleeding inside my eye. Instead of trying to fix the problem immediately or recommending another specialist who could help he suggested we wait on the issue. After some time he finally decided to perform surgery. It failed and then he performed additional surgeries. He billed insurance for numerous surgeries but did nothing to help me. Four surgeries later I am left permanently blind in one eye. Poor customer service experience. Under certain circumstances, our family member had a temporary gap in Part D insurance coverage. When we requested that the office send an electronic prescription to a specific pharmacy, we were told they do not send e-prescriptions because they "don't have time" and would do it later when they have time. This was very concerning and gave the impression that patient needs were being placed behind office convenience. When we then asked whether a one-week sample could be provided to help bridge the gap, the staff member said she did not want to ask her boss because it was "complicated" and that she would need to look in the back office to find a sample. I took my dad to see Dr. Fan for an acute eye problem. We have seen a few retinal specialists in LA/OC area and Dr. Fan is by far the most thorough. The front desk staff is friendly, making the entire experience pleasant right from the start. Best eye doctor ever! I was diagnosed with an eye tumor that turned out to be cancer. Doctor Fan took wonderful take of me. Explained everything. I still have my eye and my eye sight thanks to this doctor. You will see (pun intended) others complain about wait time. This happens because Doc Fan takes care of everyone the best he can. I am not going to doubt Dr. Fan's professionalism. In fact, this has nothing to do with the doctor. But my dad's appt was at 5:30pm. I even took time off so I can take my dad to the appt in this crazy heat. We got to the office at 5:15pm, waited til 6:45pm, still didn't get call to see the doctor while seeing other patients going in and out. My dad got mad so we left. I mean, if the doctor is not available to see us until 7pm, for example, why don't you just schedule us for 7pm?!! Then I wouldn't even need to take time off or pisses your clients off. Your time is valuable but so are ours. This is really stupid. If you have all the time in the world to wait, I recommend this doctor. read more

Dr. Fan and his team are professional and very friendly. My mom was bothered by her issues. Through the thorough examinations by Dr. Fan, he pinpointed the root cause and made surgical recommendation. My mom was quite worried about the surgery. Dr. Fan patiently gave her pros and cons analysis and explained the situation to her. it turned out that the surgery was very successful and the recovery was smooth. Came here to get my eyes checked because my doctor wanted to be on the safe side since I was showing early signs of kidney disease. Also needed to get my pupils dilated. The doctor examined me and pretty much I didn't had any problems but, seemed kind of annoyed why I was there. I guess he doesn't believe on being cautious. Then I got my pupils dilated. Now I've always been told in the past that I should have someone drive me home afterwards but the staff here said that is not necessary and that I just need to drive carefully!!! I'm glad I didn't listen to them and my wife came with me. When I walked outside in the sun afterwards, I was practically blinded, even with sunglasses on! I felt compelled to write this review as my wife is going to get her pupils dilated somewhere in Pasadena and they are making sure she does it late in the afternoon so it won't be such a shock to her eyes when she goes outside. I wish this place was as cautious. So, if you are coming here to get your pupils dilated, have someone drive you home!! Don't listen to them! In fact they didn't even say anything about this. Dr Fan is a certified Asshole. He is rude and very impatient and takes out his stress on his staff and patients . My wife has been seeing this doctor for 3 yrs . Does not like to be asked , does not explain , very impatient . If ever he answers its monosyllables and mumbles and talks to the computer and then leave the room . The first time she had to have an injection she was very nervous , he didnt bother to explain or address her questions was again impatient w her . , After 3 yrs , needed surgery and of course shes more nervous and needed to know how is the procedure and possible risks and side effects , again he mumbles , was impatient and left the room . First he said she'll need surgery , then next visit she asked about the surgery and lo and behold he flips and said its up to her . This left her more confused and when she tried to get help from one of his staff to relay to him her dilemma , he went after her like a mad man on her next visit and raised his voiced and was a total asshole . You call yourself a doctor !! Shame on you Asshole !!! You have no excuse to harass your patient just because youre having a bad day Asshole !! read more

In around 18 months ago, my sister's eyes were having some retina issue that see things scattered and had floaters. She went to see a regular Ophthalmologist initially and was advised that she has retina problem may need surgery and referred her to see Dr.Fan immediately. On her first visit with Dr.Fan, she was prescribed some eye drops after the exam and he advised my sister that surgery is not necessary at this point that he can perform Laser Treatment on her eyes first. Appointment was scheduled immediately after the consultation. The eye laser treatments were very successful. During the laser treatment, he cares for my sister's concern that it may have any discomfort and pressure to her. He offered some eye numbing drops (he did one eye at a time and the other eye for next appointment). During the process, he asked my sister that is she doing ok couple of times prior he continued the procedure, but after the eye numbing drop, she only felt little pressure and everything went pretty well. Her eyes were quickly recovered and Dr.Fan still making sure everything is ok and her last follow up appointment went great. We read some reviews that most people think the waiting time is a problem, but I would say good doctor is worth for a wait, and I personally think that he gives good advice and treatment to patients that he won't rush going out and before he comes in to see my sister that she needs to dilate both eyes and about 30 minutes due to the pupils need to be fully open after dilated otherwise the doctor won't able to see it clearly. Overall Dr.Fan is a very responsible doctor that he always making sure his patients good taking care of and if it is emergency/urgency after the procedure, he also willing to take time to come back his office to check up on the patient's eyes and that was after hour. About a year ago, I noticed my vision in my right eye was slightly blurry and over the course of a week, I noticed it got worst and worst. I immediately went to see an optometrist who then referred me to Dr. Fan. He told me I had CRVO, and I would need to get injections into my eye until I got better. Dr. Fan is a great doctor, he is very patient and caring. He did puncture blood vessels when I was receiving these injections, so my eyes would be quite red for a few weeks, but I don't blame him since I have a lot of blood vessels in my eyes. The only problem that I have with Dr. Fan is the wait time for his office. I went one Friday morning and I was there for nearly two hours, you would think that if you made an appointment it would be a lot quicker, but I still had to wait a long time. read more

I don't have too much doubt about his professionalism. I have been seeing Dr. Fan for more than one year and had a retina surgery on one eye. However, I have very bad experiences for the office administration, accounting and managements. I believe there is more than just me had bad experience. (1) The wait time is way too long for office visit, (2) the phone number listed cannot reach office almost every time I tried to call during the office hour, it went to after hour service and even they cannot reach the office and only asked me try to call back later. (3) The answer machine cannot leave message. (4) I in person went to office and left my contact information and requested doctor to call me back. I still did not receive phone call after four days. (5) Their billing and statement did not send to me after almost one year and the descriptions and contents were very confusing and not matching with insurance company's statements. My mother was having trouble seeing out of her right eye and we were referred to Dr. Fan for a further evaluation. Dr. Fan went out of the way to see her at 10pm on the same day to make sure that her eyes were okay. Needless to say, it was a great and easy experience. I bring my mom here, and the wait is always super long. It isn't unusual for the wait time to be up towards 1 1/2 hours, which to me is kind of ridiculous if we have an appointment. The waiting​ room is always packed, so I'm guessing the doctor is good? Either that or they just overbook because the doctor only sees patients 2 days a week at this location. Face time with the ​doctor always feels rushed. Dr. Fan will give a quick diagnosis and tell you he'll see you back in 6 months, and without even giving you a minute to decide if you have any questions, he's on his way out of the patient room. This has happened just about every single time, and makes my mom feel like she's wasting her time. Also, I'm not sure if the girls that work in the office are interns, family members, or what, but they are always very chatty and unprofessional. They have put the wrong preparation eyedrops in my mom's eyes because they aren't paying attention. Very annoying!! read more

I was recommended here by my local eye doctor. I had been experiencing some blindness in my right eye and I went to his office. I was greeted by very friendly receptionist (very handsome young men). I didn't wait long before I was called in by a young lady. She asked me questions in a very professional manner as to why I was here. I explained and she took notes on her fancy computer gadget. She placed eye droplets for my pupil to dilate, then I was sent back to the waiting area to wait. I waited for about 30 minutes then I was called in again and placed in another room to wait for the doctor. When he entered the room, he greeted me with a warm smile and a firm handshake. He examined my eyes, explained what seemed to be the problem and answered all my possible questions. Very patient, this man knows his stuff. Very educated and I felt that I could trust him with my eyes. Turns out I had a PARASITE in my right eye. He gave me the proper medications and asked me to return in about 2 weeks. Those 2 weeks I freaked out because I had gotten worse (blind on right eye) so when I returned I told him my concerns and felt like the medications where not working. Again, in the most confident voice ever he told me I would get better and to have patience. I regained my eyesight back after a month and I'm happy I trusted him with everything! Be careful coming to this facility. They will overcharge you for copayment. My uncle was charged a big amount in addition to his copayment. They kept on insisting just in case insurance doesn't pay they will reimbursed him if they do. I've never heard such a thing. When I contacted his insurance company they told him he shouldn't have to pay anything extras. I had to contact this facility multiple times to get his money back and they will give you a hard time about it. It's a scam when it comes to paying so be careful and check your bills beforehand. They will take advantage of people that are not aware of it or doesn't speak English. You've been warned! read more

I called in one hour before they close to see if they can check out my mom's eyes, which by this point is bleeding black already, and all the lady said was "sorry can't do anything, bye bye" and hangs up. He is an excellent doctor. My mother has macular degeneration. She was losing her sight years ago and Dr. Fan was able to save it. I have been to his office several times with my mother. I could trust him implicitly and believe that he is very knowledgeable and expert. At least we had a very good experience. My mother has been treated successfully and is so happy and thankful.
