I can't find the words to truly express how happy I am with Dr. Murthy and his staff. I am an Airline Pilot with over 37 years of airline experience and require an eye test due to occasional elevated eye pressure, termed "Pre-Glaucoma". The FAA requires pilots have a physical exam at prescribed intervals based on the type of pilot certification held. Because I am a Captain for a major airline, it has to be every six months. Once a year I have to provide test results based on the prescribed elements of my medical certification. Every year, Dr. Murthy puts me at ease with his wonderful bedside manner and his own personal knowledge of the system since he is an advanced pilot himself with actual jet experience. Thanks to his very thorough care and excellent staff, I have satisfied the FAA with flying colors on my tests. I take one eye drop at night based on his orders and it is doing the trick! My pressures are well within the FAA's guidelines along with my field of vision tests. I was so impressed with his care that I sent my wife to him and he put her at ease regarding her concerns about her vision after a thorough exam. I was referred to Dr. Murthy by my husband's best friend, who has been a patient of his for many years. Dr. Murthy discovered something that two other retina specialists had not mentioned to me. I understand why one of them might not have, as he performed my vitrectomy pars plana surgery. I was unaware that a layer had been left behind during the surgery. Recently, I noticed a very unusual brownish floater. Fortunately, whatever was obstructing my vision disappeared the following day. Given that my surgeon did not remove that particular layer, there is a possibility of a detachment. I am now contemplating whether this was intentionally overlooked, potentially necessitating another surgical procedure. It's been around 18 months since my last check up and both eyes are still in extremely excellent shape, thanks to Dr. Murthy's meticulous retina reattachment surgery in my left eye in 2016 and right eye laser treatment in 2017. Fantastic physician and office staff. They bend over backward to help with prescriptions, refills, prior authorizations, and insurance issues. Their lobby is very relaxing with an entire collection of current magazines. Parking is free, and the building is very nice. We have been coming to see Dr Murthy for over 10 years, and we will continue to see him as long as he practices. My mother previously had gone to another doctor's office that had stopped returning our calls when we started asking questions about a proposed treatment. Today was the second time I have seen Dr. Murthy. The first was last November (I thought I'd written a glowing review back then but shame on me for not doing so until now!) for an annual check-up. My intake person was Toby, who was super friendly and intelligent -- very much a reflection of Dr. Murthy, who turned out to have great bedside manner, unparalleled retina expertise, and the ability to sit down with a patient and explain the intricacies of the eye in layman's terms. I left that first visit so relieved to have an eye doctor / retina specialist near me (whose office has its own free parking lot!) who is so clearly capable and awesome. And lo and behold, having Dr. Murthy in my corner really helped today when he squeezed me in for a last-minute appointment because I thought I had a detached retina. Fortunately, my retina was in place but there was still an issue (albeit a manageable one!), and I really appreciate Dr. Murthy sitting down with his giant plastic eyeball model to show me exactly what was happening to my eye and what we were going to do about it. I had a visit with my ophthalmologist and during a routine exam he thought he saw something beyond his ability address. He referred me to Dr. Murthy who promptly identified the issue and mapped out a solution. Here is where the fun begins. Prior to detailing the solution Dr. Murthy performed a series of diagnostic tests to confirm his suspicions. Having never had any problems with my eyes before I was expecting Dr. Murthy to say something like, "...we noticed something suspicious, but it is not that serious. Come back and see me in six months." This is what really happened. Dr. Murthy walks into the room, politely smiles, and walks me through his findings. I was impressed with the level of detail and effort made to diagnose my issue. Additionally, Dr. Murthy was so calm I immediately thought "I'm good and everything is going to be ok." Then I heard the words "Intravitreal Injection". Let's focus on the second word for a second...I-N-J-E-C-T-I-O-N?! So, my next thought is "How is a shot in the arm going to help my eye?" Then, as if someone tapped me on the shoulder and said, "You missed the first word. Do you need me to help you understand what that means?" It took everything within me not to run. I am that guy who struggles with eye drops. Here is where I decided to trust Dr. Murthy. Read below and I will tell you why. Dr. Murthy was confidently reassuring as he helped me to understand how common the procedure is. He then went on to tell me how he personally and successfully performed thousands of eye injections. He didn't hide the fact that the procedure sounds scary but reassured I would be fine. To make a long story shorter, I would describe my discomfort on a scale from 1-10, where 10 is intolerable pain, as a ONE! As crazy as that sounds, it's true. I have spent over 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry in various levels of leadership with a significant amount of time interacting with physicians and residents from academia to private practice. So, what does that mean? I believe I know good when I see it. While I was referred to Dr. Murthy, I would have chosen him if given the opportunity to do so.
