Josephine did the alterations for both (!) of my wedding gowns, and I could not have been happier with the results. Both needed to be taken in quite a bit and hemmed, and neither was easy. One had complex lace and beading, which she matched up better on the altered version than the original, and tassels on the bottom, which she took from the train to hang just perfectly above my ankles (per my request for a shorter party dress). I bought my wedding dress two plus years ago when I got engaged. When we started finally planning the wedding, I pulled it out and new it needed some work. Josephine added darts to the bodice. This review is only for wedding gowns. I agree w/other reviewers that Josephine is is sweet and warm, but I left my last bridal fitting feeling extremely disappointed with how my wedding dress fit. I let her know I was disappointed and concerned with how loose my dress fit and her response several times was that there was nothing more she could do - and warned me if she took my dress in that there was a risk she would rip the lace (so basically I had no option). At first she hesitated and offered to move the buttons, which would take my dress in by 1/4 of an inch, but seemed extremely hesitant and said it was not a good idea. I paid almost $600 to have the length of my dress and bustle done (which thankfully was done well). When I expressed my concern that my dress still felt loose in the body and I knew I would be pulling it up my entire wedding day - she said "that's what they don't tell you when you buy strapless dresses, this is what they do" and suggested double sided tape. I, of course, didn't know any better. I was trusting her professional opinion. I sent photos to a seamstress in Napa and she immediately responded that my dress was "ill fitting". I went in the next day, she grabbed the back of my dress and said without hesitation "you need at least 2 inches taken off the waist of this dress - it's way too big on you!" A week later, my dress fits like a glove. Not to mention she said I was overcharged by Josephine for the work she did on the length and bustle. I realize that taking in the waist of a lace wedding dress with boning must be a TON of work, but I wish Josephine was up front with me about what she was willing to do. I would have been so uncomfortable the day of my wedding had someone not fixed my dress the right way. I am so disappointed I had to pay for 2 dress fittings. Lesson learned - I should have done my research and gotten a second opinion from the beginning and gone to someone who was comfortable doing the alterations that were needed. read more

Josephine saved the day for my daughter's wedding! We had arrived in Sonoma two days before our daughter's wedding and discovered that the skirt to my daughter's dress needed emergency alterations! We didn't know anyone in town and decided to call Josephine, based on reviews. She was so considerate to call us back, even though she was leaving town and unable to do the alterations herself.
