I think I've found my go-to salon and stylist! Located in one of the newer retail spots in the heart of Rice Village, Josephine's is a clean and inviting salon with friendly staff. Booking a haircut appointment was super easy online (huge plus for me). Alea was attentive and listened to my hair concerns. I even asked her about getting a keratin treatment, which she suggested I didn't need after cutting and assessing my hair - I appreciate the honesty! I was in and out of there in under 75 minutes after getting a wash, a great cut, and style. Plus, new clients get a welcome pack, which includes discounts for your next service and product purchase, along with a voucher for a free blowout. Note: they are a no-gratuity establishment and prefer that clients instead leave positive reviews online, so it takes away from the extra math you'd have to do elsewhere. Had my highlights redone (after too long!) and Alea did a great job blending them and choosing the right toner. Last time I had my hair done at Eldridge location the toner was a bit off and ends didn't match roots very well, but much better this time around. One or two areas that are a little bright/stripey compared to my darker roots (only really noticeable with hair pulled back), but that just happens sometimes, and it's easy to hide. I rarely treat myself in such a way. But I went on Saturday morning on New Years Eve before places got too busy. But Isaac at Josephine's Rice Village was an absolute delight. I am disabled with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and he was especially patient with me and treated and cared for my fragile hair with compassion. He cut and styled a very lovely French bob with side swept bangs and some light layering for volume and texture. All the staff was very friendly and professional. This little gem resides in the Energy Cooridor area. Booking was so easy and I was able to do it online. The Salon itself is really clean and I appreciated all the privacy screens in between all the customers to allow some privacy to talk to my own stylist. I read countless reviews and it seemed like every stylist was going to be a winner. I ended up choosing Abigail and I absolutely LOVED her. I came in really nervous about cutting my hair from a previous haircut elsewhere. I also was wishy washy with what I wanted to do and relied on her to help me make some of the decisions. Abigail was so patient and gave me lots of input/advice to help me make a decision without being pushy. I trusted her completely and she gave me the haircut of my dreams. One thing I want to mention is that Abigail did something that I really appreciated. I came in wanting to cut off 8-9 inches. To be sure that that was what I wanted...Abigail's first cut was wasn't as short as I originally asked because she wanted to make sure that I was okay with the length before the point of no return. I really was grateful for this service because it allowed me to confidently cut off the significant amount that I wanted. I went into work today and got over 20 compliments. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but I also would hate for someone to go through my experience. I made an appointment with Isaiah as he is their premier colorist and actually teaches at the Aveda institute. He arrives 25 minutes late to a 1:00 appointment with his Starbucks, complaining about his hangover. I should have gotten up and left, however, I am respectful of people's time. He fried my hair. I have very healthy hair and he destroyed it. I have spent so much money, time and effort trying to save my hair. I have moved on and found someone to help me save my hair, but I will never go back to this salon. read more

I appreciate her asking questions and breaking down the process of what will be done or what she would suggest. She seems to really care about her customers experience and the outcome, not just find ways to make her customers spend more money. Josephine's Spa and Salon itself is also amazing! I love that they provide coupons to customers and also discounts. They don't accept "tips" which is still strange to me but it 1000% helps make the business competitive as their prices are already better than a lot of other salons I've looked into in the Houston area. The products they use don't make my scalp itchy or irritated like other salons (specially when dying my hair) have done. So, another win! I've found my forever stylist and salon! Alea was my stylist and I can't say enough good things about her. She's very knowledgeable about Asian hair. She really listens to what you want and she's a great conversationalist too. I know my hair is not the easiest to work with; it's jet black, it's thick and slightly coarse, and I have A LOT. I've always had a difficulty with this cause most salons will book me for an hour for a cut, 2 for color (which usually ends up being not enough). So when I say I want a layered cut, I feel like there's not enough layers, or with color, I feel like it's not blended well. Not here though! Alea gave me a wonderful layered cut and amazing highlights. I didn't feel like she was rushing. She was really thorough and made adjustments in terms of time to accommodate my hair. I've paid for more expensive cuts and colors before, but this is the best cut and color I've gotten here in Houston for a very reasonable price, especially considering all the work Alea did and the time it took. For people who have trouble saying no, you'll love this place. They did not push products or additional services like hair treatments at all. read more

She cut my daughter's naturally curly hair and used the new Aveda Nutriplenish Leave-In Conditioner and Hair Oil that gave my daughter beautiful hydrated curls. When you're a new client, you get in at the very last minute for a hair emergency, you're offered plenty of wine, and you get all your grays covered all the while enjoying hysterical conversation with your stylist... you're going to the right place. Do the right thing and call them. Ask for Isaac. He will treat you like the queen that you are and make you look fab, too. I really could not be more pleased with the service I received here especially after calling to get in at the very last minute! It's a full service Aveda salon so it smells wonderful and you know that they're using cruelty free and environmentally friendly products. I was going in for color touch up and a quick shampoo and Isaac made sure I received the full treatment and even dried and styled my hair (in beach waves no less)!
