I must say we met the owner or partner at a place making new menus by mistake. We were lost trying to find a how to get to the lighthouses. We ask her about local restaurants in the area for seafood and other types of food. We did not want what we have at home restaurant. She told us of a few seafood restaurant and her own restaurants. It's hard to believe that this gem of a restaurant is located in a small strip mall. The place is tiny, clean, very well decorated and the ambiance makes you forget your not in little Italy. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced. The meatballs are probably the best I've had in a long time or maybe ever. The tortellini in pesto sauce melted in your mouth and the spinach rolls are something you have to try if they're being offered as a special menu item. Josephine's is a small place service BIG flavor. We eat here often, had just about everything on the menu, and I can't pick a favorite. The menu changes each week, and is posted online. Because of it's size, there is usually a wait for a table, and if you have a large party, there's only one big table. So plan accordingly. Also, this is not a place to bring small children. One good shriek and the walls feel like they are closing in on you. If you are looking for a place to "just get the kids spaghetti," I'd suggest someplace else. The sauce could have been a little more fluid, less thick but I believe that's a preference. My wife had stuffed green peppers and they were divine. Long-time Duck goers, but we don't explore much past the town that we know! Stumbled upon this little gold mine on accident and so happy that we did. Italian at the beach is something we didn't know we needed until we ate here! Their ravioli in all forms is fantastic and clearly home cooked. This place has one of the best Italian meals I've tasted in my life. The meat sauce was out of this world, and the softball-sized, cheese-filled, meatballs were so flavorful. My boyfriend loved the Italian sauce which had great flavor with a kick. We started off sharing a Palermo pear salad which was delicious with a variety of complex flavors that complimented each other well. We took dessert home because we were absolutely stuffed. The chocolate cannolis were cream-filled, crispy rolls of heaven. On top of the incredible food, the ambience was classy with a dimly lit atmosphere and jazz playing in the background. This place was just not for me. Decided to go here because of the great reviews on Yelp. The menu is tiny, only 4 or 5 entrees to choose from and they didn't offer anything I was excited to order. I didn't care for the tiny space and extreme darkness. We went to Josephine's on our last night of our vacation (Friday, 9/9). They have pretty good reviews on several review sites and we definitely weren't let down. We had a small wait and the staff was super friendly. The ambiance is nice too. The place is small (maybe about 10 tables) and cozy and their chairs are really comfortable. From my understanding, they do change the menu and the menu itself is rather small but I love that concept. Even with the smaller menu, they had something for everyone (vegetarians, etc). My fiance had the veal and I had the tortellini, both of which were excellent and our waitress was very attentive. It did get a little loud at times with some larger parties, but once people got their food they quieted down. Terrible experience tonight at Josephine's We have been there a few times but after tonight we will not be back After being told it was a 45 minute wait we proceeded to wait over an hour and a half and still were not seated although group after group were coming in and being seated. They don't take reservations but you can come in give your name and leave for an hour and they will call when your table is ready ?'!?!?!?!?!? Sounds like a reservation to me ??? We had dinner at Josephine's this evening. The lady that seated us was so warm and welcoming. I'm not sure if she was just a hostess because she was all over the restaurant doing everything. Our server was excellent and accommodated our special requests. I thought the decor and ambiance in the restaurant was wonderful. Our food was delicious. Don't make that mistake, I live in the DC metro area and believe me when I tell you I have found nothing close to the Italian food at Josephine's. Every dish I have gotten has been excellent. Haven't dined In yet but when I pick up my order it's always hot, ready and delicious. Great staff, great atmosphere similar to what you would find in Jersey or NY. This has become a favorite of mine whenever I visit the Outer Banks. I always get the sampler when I come here and I am never disappointed. The sampler comes with two large meatballs filled with cheese, some pasta, and a sausage. I will say Josephines is a little pricey but it is definitely worth it if you want really good Italian food. And honestly compared to the other places at Outer Banks it's actually reasonable. Josephine's usually opens at 5 PM and I would most definitely recommend getting there at least 15 minutes before they open because there will be a line outside the entrance. Called in for take out and ordered rigatoni with a meatball and fetuccini alfredo with chicken. Went to the store to pick it up and they had me waIting 35 minutes because they were having problems in the kitchen. When I opened the order the meatballs were not there (but we were charged for them) and the rigatoni were uncooked futher tge fetuccini with chicken had 2 tiny slices of chicken (less than 1oz but we were charged for them). My daughter and I went here on a whim during our vacation in Kitty Hawk and it turned out to be a great decision. I had the shrimp scampi and it was full of huge shrimp with fresh tomatoes and pasta in a lemony sauce. It was delicious! My daughter had a salad filled with blue cheese and plenty of other toppings, everything fresh and delicious. She said it was one of the best salads she had ever eaten (she loves salads). Opened last week and after a long wait for a good Italian restaurant in the area. We started off with the fresh made bread which was fantastic, the olive oil to dip in was really nice and we could have made a meal with it alone. The wince list is perfect with a nice selection and prices that are not typical, they are low which is a nice change. We had a very nice Malbec for $15. I had the Sicilian Spaghetti with Meatballs and my other diner had the Pasta Fra Diavolo (zesty marinara sauce topped with mussels and shrimp), both were completely finished. We did not leave hungry either!! The restaurant is small, there were 8 tables as I recall and a large bar where you can also eat. Food came out quickly and was freshly made and hot. We will be sure to go here often. They are open 5pm til ? Tues - Sat The owners are the original owners of Cosmo's Pizza in Kitty Hawk which they sold several years ago but that still holds the same name, they seem to have brought the same cooking skills here that they had there. They open at 5, definitely recommend getting there a few minutes before opening as a line starts forming before they open the doors. For apps we had the fried artichokes, house salad and caprese. Simply delicious food. Visited for the second time last night & had the Josephine combo. Gigantic plate of food that was outstanding. Meatballs are extremely flavorful with a little cheese in the middle. Did I mention they are huge as well? Homemade sausage as well along with pasta all covered by a slightly spicy bolognese sauce. My wife had the Catherine's pasta al forno which was just as delicious & flavorful as my dinner. Started with the stuffed peppers which were outstanding.
