This place is typically very reliable for good food. However, we tried the gyros tonight. My recommendation is to skip it. Very flavorless. Tzatziki sauce was lackluster. Meat wasn't the kind cut off a leg of lamb on a rotating spit. Fries were flavorless. Next time I'll go back to the lean-o-luscious Southwest salad with chicken. We got there around 4:30pm on Sunday and there was no wait time. We got seated quickly. Our server was very nice and attentive and she served with a smile. I ordered buffalo wings and bang bang shrimp which were average. They are not a traditional wing spot so if you're in the mood for good meaty, crispy hot wings this is not the place, but the flavor was ok. The bang bang shrimp we're small popcorn shrimp mostly bread but the flavor was good. Our daughter's ordered buffalo chicken pizza on white sauce and it was amazing!! They definitely know their pizza. It came out cheesey, and the crust was light and fluffy. Very good pizza so far. The environment has a beach feel to it and was pleasant. They have a bunch of TV's to see your favorite sports teams and plenty of seating overall. I'll go back and try something else. I recently visited Barefoot Bernie's for lunch when I was in the OBX area. I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The vibe was relaxed and inviting. I ordered the fish tacos, which came with rice and beans on the side (or you can opt for tortilla chips), and honestly, the whole plate was a win. The tacos were packed with crispy, golden fish; perfectly fried without being greasy and topped with a fresh, flavorful slaw that added just the right tang and crunch. We are always looking for fried chicken. Barefoot Bernie's has it featured as a special on Wednesday nights. We tried one time but this special is extremely popular and we were too late in the evening and did not want to wait. This time we decided to take-out and went about 4:45pm. We decided that one dinner of a half chicken would be plenty for the two of us. We subbed an extra serving of mashed potatoes for our optional side, since we both wanted them and had other things for sides at home. The chicken was good, with nice seasonings. The breast was a little dry, but not bad. It would be nice to order all dark meat and maybe we could have. The mashed potatoes were delicious, and well-seasoned. I can see doing this again. Beyond fried chicken Wednesday, Barefoot Bernie's has an interesting menu and we really need to try lunch there. read more

One of my favorites. I think they have the best very crab dip! It is so good. I get it every time. We also really enjoyed the Hot Honey Chipotle wings - great sauce. Stopped in on taco Tuesday night and really glad I did. Got a seat at the bar and the bartender was awesome. She recommended the tacos and I got one of each. All of them were good but my favorite was the Ahi Tuna. The Carne Asada and the pork were a tie and the buffalo shrimp was good as well. The chicken taco was good but had a little too many beans for me but the flavors were still good. Overall the service, the atmosphere and the food were great. The Texas Beast Burger is one of the most insane burgers I have ever seen. It's an absolute unit of a sandwich fit for the Hossiest of Hosses. I mean, just look at my photos of it, it's as big as your head! My girlfriend's son has a bottomless pit of a stomach and even he couldn't finish it. Getting in here can be a chore, even in the off season the wait can be hours. To be honest, it's pretty bad. I wish they'd offer reservations with a fee that gets applied to your dinner, this would keep people from making them and not showing up. We waited about 60 minutes to get in (were told 90 minutes) after stopping by a couple days in a row and being told is was 3 hours! The parking lot isn't small but it doesn't have enough parking for the restaurant capacity so we were parked in the shopping center next door. They didn't tow us but who knows what would happen in the busy season. We were told there is an arcade in the back of the restaurant that you can wait in but we couldn't find it. We really wanted to eat here because of the Yelp reviews hence the multiple attempts to get here. For starters we got the bang-bang chicken. It was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. Crispy and flavorful. We also got some drinks. My girlfriend enjoyed a painkiller in a to-go cup that looked like a kids sippy cup. I got the 14 Day Oak Barrel Aged Old Fashioned and it was pretty decent. My girlfriend's dinner was the Brazilian steak carnival and I wish I had gotten it myself! I settle on a salad that I didn't even take a photo of. Other kid got the seafood gumbo and really enjoyed it. We skipped dessert and opted to get ice cream elsewhere. Overall it was a great meal. Would I wait an hour to get in here again? No. Would I eat here again if it were a 15 minute wait? Yes. It's good but not wait for hours good. read more

Day 2 brought us to this establishment. There was a bit of a wait but the process went smooth. They texted you when your table was ready, so we were able to chill in the car while we waited. They have their own parking lot and they was even jam packed, so a good sign. We went with the loaded nachos and chicken tenders to start with. The nachos were a meal in itself. Very good and very over the top. Chicken tenders were tasty but nothing special. The kid enjoyed them. For dinner, I got the Fish and Chips. Everything was very fresh with a beer better coating. My wife got the stir fry and the kid got the Philly Cheesesteak without the onions and the peppers. For dessert, I went with the Key Lime Pie and my wife and son shared an old favorite.... Alright this might be closer to a 3.5 and I usually round up but there were a few things.... First off our server was in-training. She was good and that is no way in reflection of the rating. The food is your typical chain restaurant food. Nothing was that great but it wasn't bad, but I most likely wouldn't come back. Food: The crab dip had no flavor. Could not taste the crab. Pita points were good that came with it. Shrimp & Grits- not the best. It was decent but would not order again. The coconut shrimp was the standout dishes the sauce that came with it was very good along with the rice. Subbed the coleslaw for the corn which was the veggie of the day and that was very good. The Painkiller drink was very weak. Overall a mediocre meal for $76 dollars. Also it was super hot in the restaurant. I get it's summer but it was warm! read more

Restaurant: The outside looked pleasing and the inside spacious. The bar seemed cozy and nicely light, the eating area well lit. Service: The service was good and server attentive. Drink: I tried the ruby slipper drink, I thought it was good...could be stronger, however the glass served in could be a little bigger for a $12 drink. Food: the chicken gumbo was delish, very flavorful, hot and the pasta cooked just right. I suggest not cutting the chicken and sausage soo small, but bite size. Wow this place hit the spot! Just for some context, my wife and I made it to Kitty Hawk, NC after a 13 hour drive from the Indianapolis metro area. So we were hungry and needed a beer or two. Barefoot Bernie's delivered. We knew it was good when we saw a line out the door, but thankfully there were two open spots at the bar (which is typically how we roll). The bartenders were really nice and attentive. So finally we got a couple beers. I ordered a Red Oak lager brewed out of Charlotte, so good. Now on to food, we ordered the seafood gumbo and pub style fish n' chips. The gumbo was excellent and surprisingly rich toward the end. The fish n' chips was a little extra, it was served with waffle fries, coleslaw and a tangy mayonnaise dipping sauce. By the time we finished our food and yes, we ate all of it, we headed back to the beach to let it digest. Definitely check out Barefoot Bernie's if you come visit the outer banks North Carolina. OMG, so delicious! We got the seafood gumbo and fish and chips. Let me tell you, both are the best dishes ever. The gumbo was really good, but be prepared--it's very rich. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and oh so yummy. The mayo sauce was sooo good, and the slaw was delicious too. Let's just say, we finished both dishes easily. I would definitely come here again. I love the feel and ambience, it really made us feel like we're on vacation. The staff were wonderful as well. This is the 2nd time we ate here. The other night we had a waiter and he was really good. Food was good. It was worth a return trip. Tonight dinner was good. Waitress was forgetful. Didn't check on tables. Had to ask three times for mustard for our burger. I am gluten free so I decided to order their gluten free cookie for dessert. There is a price difference between the regular one and gf. The receipt charged for regular. Waitress kept saying I ordered the gluten one. Noooo I ordered gluten FREE. Even manager (i assume) came over and tried to reassure me it was. Well after all of that, I got it, and ate it. So far so good. (As far as how I feel) but as far as how the cookie was, don't bother to order it. Not worth it. As far as the restaurant i would return. Hopefully a different waitress. read more

I loved my meal at this place. We came in late on a Wednesday, and while the parking lot looked full, the place definitely was not. We were seated promptly and it didn't take long to get our drinks. For food, my partner and I both ordered the mahi sandwich with spicy seasoning, and we got the chicken wings with jerk sauce for an appetizer. The wings themselves were very good, but I found I wasn't a fan of the jerk sauce. It had a good kick, but the sauce itself was way too sweet/gingery for my taste. Despite this though, I enjoyed them and they kept me happy until our sandwiches got there. The mahi was very well cooked, and while they had some heat to them, i wouldn't consider them spicy (lucky for my partner). They were very tasty, especially with the lime tartar sauce. I swapped my regular fries for sweet potato fries, which were thin, crispy, and so good. My partner enjoyed his regular fries and they looked very well seasoned. By pricing standards, I'd say this place is pretty fair. We'll definitely come back if we make it back to OBX in the future. read more

We watched her deal with a difficult table with so much patience and courtesy.
